Cute fake dating romance, with fun characters. Its also easy to read!
I was a little bit annoyed by the plot that contains lie after lie, and i felt the longer it went on, the worse i felt, but i also know that specific cringy annoyance is exactly part of the story. It is written to make you feel the terror of having told lie after lie and delaying the truth. Laura carter did good in making the reader feel that! She also did great in making you feel butterflies!

Well when two liars lie and 'fall in love' this book was just annoying.
Not one character was truthful. At first it started as mistaken identity then snowballed into full blown lying and starting a relationship based on lies is never great.

While abbies lies were lies at least she showed some backbone and tried to make her lies a reality. Where as his lies were just lies and he didn't show much in way of wanting to correct it untill he was called out.
Yet everyone forgave each other because love?!?

Least the writing style was OK and manageable

I enjoyed reading about Abbey’s story but I found it difficult to believe she didn’t realise Ted and Mike were different people.
If you enjoy a slow burn romance with lots of misunderstandings, this is the book for you.

✨ ARC REVIEW ✨

Title: Fake it ‘til you make it
Author: Laura Carter
Star Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5

If you’re looking for a cute and cheesy fake-dating rom com then this is for you. This book is a super easy read with short chapters and loveable characters.. (adding Ted to my list of book boyfriends).

The plot is quite predictable and the airport scene is just so cliché but the book also reminds me of “The proposal” and that is one of my fave film’s ever sooo 😂💝

I don’t know about everyone else, but sometimes I need a book like this one to break up all the super deep reads and it definitely done the job!

Honestly - I really struggled with this one. It was lighthearted, but the ending was so disappointing to me. It just ended like that and I was like ?????????

Overall the romance in this was slow burn, with angst and heartfelt moments. It is a "glimpses and kisses" aka a clean romance. There is a lot of tension between the two, Ted and Abby, There is a lot of miscommunication, so if that's not your jam you won't like this. If you liked spanish love deception you'll like this book.... except for the ending.

LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK!

Have I mentioned before that romance is my favorite genre?

I devour romance books! I don't care if they're cheesy. The cheesier, the better honestly.

I love feel good books, they make me happy and make my days better.

That's how this book was for me. It was a super cute and feel good book.

Such an easy and quick read too! I enjoyed reading it, a lot.

Definitely will be recommending this book to everyone! Please read this book!

I've been struggling with my thoughts on 'Fake it 'til You Make it' since I finished it. I love fake dating tropes, they make my day but this book did not. For me, I felt no chemistry between Abbey and Ted, I understand it's meant to be an Enemies to lovers trope but they did not seem to like each other at all. I know they were both pretending to be different people but honestly, who they were, was pretty off-putting. Abbey was supposed to be a feminist but I felt like she was not, especially when she makes judgmental thoughts about other women because of how they dress and look.

Ted felt very misogynistic, also judging women by how they look even though I felt like Carter was trying a bit too hard to make him appear sympathetic just because women who like to look nice remind him of his cheating fiance. The ending also felt very rushed, which threw the pacing off as the author dedicated a lot of time to building it up. I also felt like there was zero to no character development .

Overall, a pass for me.

This book sounded fun, but sadly I didn't love it. I'm not usually a fan of miscommunication / lying so this story wasn't the best for me. I got annoyed by the main characters. Please, just tell the truth! No more lying! (But enemies to lovers and neighbors falling in love are always good tropes!)

This is a cozy light hearted rom com. The characters are lovable and fun. This is definitely a clean romance but I still really enjoyed the story - it was heartwarming. If you’re looking for a light hearted love story, this is for you!

If you enjoy a romcom, you will love this fake dating set up. Abbey is a likeable central character who finds she has to start again, professionally and personally. She takes a chance and moves in to her dream apartment block, hoping that if she lives as she'd like to, it may all come true. By a twist of fate, the man upstairs, Ted, is also keeping his identity under wraps, wanting to avoid a few people and unwanted publicity. Of course the chemistry between them is palpable.

There are plenty of humorous moments in this light-hearted look at love. Friends and family add lots of life to the story and my favourite part was when Ted met Abbey's family. With misunderstandings and quite a bit of pretence, this makes for a lively read. You also get to see part of the story through Ted's eyes so this dual narrative adds variety.

In short: an entertaining read

I'm so grateful to be taking part in this blog tour to promote this recent release!

This story follows Abbey and Ted who have reached their own lows after being cheated on by their partners. They each end up moving into an apartment building, one above the other, and irritating each other through a series of meet cutes and coincidental encounters. They make incorrect assumptions about each other and that fuels their future interactions, but they find common ground eventually and decide to fake-date to hurt their exes.

The interactions are very much enemies-to-lovers coded, however, I didn't feel any real malice between the two characters. They both seem to have very high stakes for their professional endeavours but those seem to just disappear with very little effort or a second mention. I really liked the supporting cast of Abbey's siblings and work friend, as well as Ted's brother, though some of the interactions seemed to be very surface-level or only there to move the plot along, rather than genuine conversation between siblings.

Overall, it was a really quick and entertaining read! I really enjoyed the dual-perspective of the novel, especially seeing the same situation from both perspectives. My assumptions at the start definitely were upended and the story went in a different direction than I expected. I thought that the set-up was amazing and the plot was really well thought out, I would have just loved to have a bit more development on the conflict between our two main characters, as well as their exes.

“Fake It Til You Make It” by Laura Carter is a delightful rom-com novel that skillfully explores the lives of characters often sidelined in traditional romance narratives. Protagonist Abbey, along with her charming yet nerdy neighbor, embarks on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth, ultimately learning to embrace their true selves in the face of societal expectations. Carter’s vivid storytelling vividly brings to life the ups and downs of Abbey’s quest for love and fulfillment, with moments of humor and heartwarming authenticity sprinkled throughout.

One of the book’s standout features is its nuanced portrayal of characters who don’t fit the conventional mold of romantic leads. Abbey’s struggles with self-doubt and insecurity, combined with her determination to break free from societal norms, make her a relatable and endearing protagonist. Likewise, the male lead’s journey from betrayal to self-acceptance adds depth to the storyline, offering readers a fresh perspective on the complexities of modern relationships.

While the chemistry between Abby and her neighbor sizzles with tension, the romance aspect of the story felt somewhat rushed and underdeveloped. The abrupt ending left me craving more closure, as I wished to see further exploration of their budding relationship. Additionally, the prolonged secrets and miscommunication between the characters felt frustrating at times, hindering the natural progression of the plot.

Despite these minor flaws, “Fake It Til You Make It” is a charming and engaging read that offers a refreshing take on the rom-com genre. Carter’s witty prose and insightful exploration of themes such as identity and belonging make for an enriching literary experience. Fans of quirky, character-driven romances will find much to enjoy in this delightful novel. Overall, “Fake It Til You Make It” is a captivating page-turner that will leave readers eagerly anticipating Laura Carter’s next literary venture.

Can a fake date fix everything?

On a day Abbey thought would be the best of her life, it all falls her boyfriend tells her he’s met someone else. And then to make things worse, she loses her job. In an act of reimagination, she splurges her wedding savings on renting an apartment in a building she’s always dreamed of living in but when her family invites her ex – a close family friend – plus a date(!!) to her parents’ vow renewal, Abbey realizes her façade won’t be enough. There’s nothing for it but to fake one more thing – a romance. And she knows exactly who to ask... her hot new neighbor...

I can never say no to a fake dating trope and this book was no different. It also includes mistaken identity, forced proximity, boy next door and is a slow burn! Definitely a quick/ light read to get you out of slump. Absolutely delightful book and I will definitely be reading more from this author!

I recently read Fake It 'til You Make It by Laura Carter, and I have to say, it was a fun and entertaining read. The story follows Abbey, who is having the worst day of her life when she finds out her boyfriend has met someone else, and she loses her job. In a bold move, she spends her savings on a dream apartment and a new wardrobe to match.

However, when her ex and his new date are invited to her parents' vow renewal, Abbey realizes she needs to fake a romance to save face. She turns to her hot new neighbor, who agrees to help her out. As they spend more time together, Abbey begins to question whether her feelings for him are real or just part of the facade she's created.

The plot is light-hearted, with plenty of humor and romantic tension to keep the reader engaged. The characters are well-developed, and their chemistry is electric. The writing style is witty and engaging, and I found myself rooting for Abbey and her neighbor throughout the book.

Overall, Fake It 'til You Make It is a great read for anyone who loves a good romantic comedy. Laura Carter has created a charming and relatable story that will leave you smiling. I highly recommend this book to anyone who needs a little pick-me-up or a good laugh.

This was an adorable lighthearted read. I loved this!

The premise Abby and Andrew have been together forever and when he booked a special dinner she thought he was going to propose…. Instead she got a nasty surprise- a breakup and that he was seeing someone else who wait for is more different and exciting.

In response to this she decides to blow her wedding fund on an aspirational lifestyle in the hope to fake it til you make it. Everything she’s dreamed of and wanted. In the new apartment she meets Ted who has his own backstory and perceived persona.

Cue a lot of drama, adventure, slow burn romance and lots of funny moments! I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Thank you Boldwood Books and Netgalley!

This was a cute, quick read for me after finishing a long fantasy series and needing a break before diving into another series. I'm typically not into fake romances and honestly they probably could've just came clean, but whatever. I get it was needed to be done for the whole fake dating plotline. Would I read again? No, but still not bad.
