oh wow, i can’t wait for the next book!!

I was hooked from chapter one and stayed gripped the entire book. Linda Calvey is a fairly new author to me, but I will be reading everything she writes from here on out. This cemented her as an auto-buy author for me.

This is a really good, gritty read. The story follows a mother and daughter who live a sad life, with the man of the house a bully it seems that they will never escape their poverty stricken home life but after a shocking event takes place Annie and Maria flee and start to rebuild their lives.
And to make it even better the story is to be continued so I look forward to seeing what happens next.

Faith, by Linda Calvey is a belter of a series starter and what makes this book even better, is that the author is speaking from the voice of experience. This gives the book a grittier, more plausible edge, more hands-on to the reality of crime in today's soceity

What would you do if your husband was in gambling debt up to his eyeballs and mired in debt to the local crime syndicate? What would you do if you had a child and no way of getting a day to day job to support your family, pay of the debts and try to keep the lights o at home? Annie will do anything, and does. Annie decides to turn to prostition to earn a lot of money, and fast. But this in itself causes even more trouble for the beleaaguered family, especially when Annies daughter inadvertently stumbles into the situation

Powerful, dynamic, raw and dramatic, Outstanding

This is my first read by Linda Calvey, and it will not be my last!
I am already a fan of some of the other well known authors of this genre, and Linda is up there with them. I know nothing about the author, but I sense she has a genuine insight into the world she writes about.
I finished this book in two sittings. All in all a great read.

Faith by Linda Calvey new book was an excellent and a great start to a new promising series. This was a book I found hard to put down, once I started to read it, before I knew it I had finished the book.......... WoW, what an excellent cliff hanger ending that was!

Faith, was set in Wakefield, in 1964 onwards. It's a gangland story of violence with close family ties. Annie Wills life was far from rosy with an unhappy upbringing from her parents. Still in her teens, she was swept off her feet by by the first man who showed her affection! His name wGary and she fell pregnant. Single mums back in the 60's was a No No and she had to marry the father of her child!. Annie's husband Gary soon showed he was a lazy and a coward who was unable to hold down any job, with his fists always at the ready to vent his anger on the world.
The one shining star in Annie's life is her perfect little girl, Maria.

Gary thought he could talk on the local crime family called the Waltons and not pay his debt's he had with them! He was so wrong................very wrong!!!
The only way for Annie to keep a roof over their heads, was to work at one of the Waltons' drinking clubs. There, Annie does the unthinkable and keeps men happy, night after night.
She does not complain as she need to keep her beautiful daughter safe.

Years go by, and Maria Annie's daughter is growing into a stunning teenager who catches the eye of Fred Walton, the volatile son of family boss, Ted. Despite Annie's desperate efforts to protect Maria from this seedy world. The young couple fall into a relationship and inevitably Maria falls pregnant. - Is history repeating itself?

When Fred finds out, he is furious at the news, he lashes out again and again with his hand, his ring has a secret razor tip which leaves Maria with deep, livid scars criss-crossing one side of her beautiful face. Annie knows the marks on her daughter's face will never fade but they will be nothing compared to the trauma Maria will hold deep inside.

Annie and Maria simply cannot stay in town. They both have to pack lightly and run away from everything, even Gary..............but where will they go?

The only place where Annie know's that is safe is to flee to her friends place in London, Joyce, a fellow prostitute from the Walton's bar who has recently moved to Stepney. Joyce was always kind to Annie and Maria........With Maria's face wrapped in bandages they both set off......Are they both going to be safe from the Waltons?

This book was so good and a great Holiday read.

I highly recommend this latest book by Linda! I loved it.

Big Thank you for Netgalley and Headline | Mountain Leopard Press for my ARC.

I devoured this book in one sitting. I could not put it down. It's quite a gritty storyline and hits out hard from the start.

Annie Wills was forced to marry Gary. He's a wife beater, reckless with money, and has aggrieved the wrong people. She was coerced into prostitution to pay off his debts

Along with her daughter Maria, the storyline follows the two women throughout their lives.

This is such a page turner as you just need to know how the story ends.

Wow what a read. This new series by Linda is really good. I was drawn in from page one and didn’t want to put it down. This starts off in Wakefield. Annie lives with her rotter of a husband Gary and young daughter Maria. One night Gary informs his wife that as he can’t pay off his debts to a local gangster and he’s agreed that Annie will work off his debt for him as a whore. We follow Annie and Maria’s extraordinary lives and this book definitely leaves you wanting more. Linda I hope you don’t leave us waiting for too long.

A gangster thriller book that kept me highly entertained. Annie is one tough lady with a brute of a father and then she marries Gary who is just as savage. Annie has a daughter who she will go to any length to protect. The plot gripped me tight and didn't let go. It did leave me hanging as it ended on a cliffhanger but that makes me all the more eager to read the next book!

Realy enjoyed this gangland thriller! My only negative was it could have been a bit more grittier! Thanks Net Galley

Faith is my first novel by Linda Calvey and I was immediately hooked by the harrowing storyline of domestic violence and abuse. I read this novel in one sitting, with a hand covering my mouth and was rooting for the family. However, I felt like the ending was rushed which was a bit disappointing. 4 stars

A London gangland story of violence and close family ties set mainly in the 1960s. At times it was quite exciting but the story lacked impact especially when the names of the children were announced. I was also expecting Ronnie or Reggie Kray to appear.!

The amount of characterisation and dialogue was really impressive but maybe I wanted the book to be more gritty. Is Ms Calvey a fan of 'Call The Midwife' as that TV show does show some elements of life in that part of London in the 6OS?

A satisfying read and certainly worth a follow up book.

Thanks to Headline Press for the chance to read and review..

I do like a gritty gangland thriller but this one just failed to deliver for me. I liked the characterisation and the plotting but it merely skimmed the surface of the criminal aspect of gangs, although there was a degree of violence portrayed. There were plenty strong female characters, it is an easy read with a steady pace but not enough grit for the genre. The ending left it open for a follow up though, which I would probably read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

This was a brillianr read, set in London in the 1960s through to the 1990s. Marias mom Annie is subjected to violence regularly from Gary her husband.
After leaving school Maria meets Fred, who is on the up in the criminal world and his dad Ted owns the gambling den that Annie works in.. when Maria finds out she is pregnant, she is overjoyed and thinks fred will be too...... is he?. What occurs after Fred finds out about the pegnancy, has Maria and Annie fleeing to start again where they wont be found. Joyce, Annies long time friend is on hand to help out. Can they start again with baby Faith???
I highly recommend this book, its gritty and shows the strength that people have when their luck is down...

It was my first read by this author, and I was very pleased with what I read. At times, emotional filled with women who against all odds make their own way in life without the help of the men who have done nothing but let them down.Loved that the areas and places where the story is set in London I know very well it added to the story for me.
My favourite characters were Annie and her daughter Maria, along with Annie's longtime friend Joyce.
As this is the 1st book in a new series, I'm looking forward to seeing how the next generation of characters grow and that we get more of the criminal element that is bubbling away nicely on the surface.
Great read.
Thanks to Netgalley and Headline Books for the ARC.
