This was up there with one of the most beautifully written retellings of Greek mythology I’ve read so far. I have a new found love for Psyche and Eros’ story along with such an appreciation for how this retelling also became an exploration of gender fluidity, queer love, how opinions and expectations change within genders, the rules and boundaries within marriage and the expectations put upon both sides.
The pacing in this book was perfect and I found it hard to put it down - this was an enthralling story that has definitely become a new favourite of mine!

OMG WHY IS THIS SO GOOD. I have always been so invested in Greek mythology and Eros and psyche is just a classic. This book brought around a new perspective to the classic love story and I wish the book wouldn’t have ended

A delightful retelling of the love story of psyche and Eros, beautiful and tragic like all the Greek myths but with a unique plot twist. The writing is beautiful, very poetic and a pleasure to read. I’m not much of a fan of the erotic stuff and there was a lot of it, I found a lot of the middle portion of the book a bit of drag, and a little unnecessary. Overall It is an enjoyable book, but I think it should be listed as romance/erotic fantasy.

Thank you to NetGalley and the author for this ARC

This will stand up alongside many of the other great historical retellings. I was not familiar with the tale of Eros and Psyche beforehand, but I very much enjoyed the atmosphere and character development. The tension created was palpable, descriptions vivid, and the characters well defined.

A fabulous addition to the mythological retellings!

I'm so glad queer stories are getting their overdue share of mythology - and now a round of applause for the lesbians please and thank you. I wasn't familiar with the traditional story, and as far as I'm concerned this will be the version I remember when I hear Eros & Psyche.

I liked the references to other stories, and I hope to hear more about them from this author!

Greek mythology retellings are lucky to have Caro De Robertis.

Thank you NetGalley for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review!

The writing in this book was beautiful lyrical and sensual but I didn’t connect to the characters and found the story a bit flat

Thanks to NetGalley for the arc

A radical and sensuous retelling of the tale of Psyche and Eros from classic mythology. And in this version, there's a strong focus on the fact that Eros is "gender-fluid", which adds an interesting element!

Psyche's beauty has attracted the jealousy of the Gods - in this case, Aphrodite, though the deities of the Greek pantheon were mostly an envious and emotional bunch. But the fallout of Aphrodite's unjustified wrath will be unexpected, even to the instigator of the issue...

A bold and interesting take on the tale that fits in well with the current trend of mythological retellings, this is a good addition to the "revised versions" of the stories. Worth a read for those who enjoy mythology, both the original versions and these newer offerings. It gets 3.5 stars.
