Heartwarmingly wonderful! As Lucy Dillon’s books always are…I would expect nothing more and nothing less from this one. This book had a way of sneaking up on me. I began reading not knowing if I fully related to the protagonist, only to find that I related to her all too well and could learn a thing or two from her. I felt seen as the characters explored their familial relationships with each other and were introspective of their own faults and mistakes.

Lucy Dillon's Irresponsible Adult is an NA coming-of-age that warms the heart.
Exploring themes such as family, relationships and work tied together with the impending doom that adulthood often feels like, Irresponsible Adult explores what it is to be in your early 20s with no idea where you are going or how you got where you are.
The characters are complex and relatable, there is a hint of romance but this is in no way a focal point of the novel. I would absolutely read more of Lucy's work in the future.
'Robyn?' Jim's voice sounded a long way away. 'Are you oK?'
'No,' I said. 'I'm not OK. I'm the worst person I know.'
I was invested from the start of this novel, but I could not put the book down for the last 50% and read it in one go.
One note I have is that I do wish the issues had been explored in a bit more depth. I felt as though the ending was rushed and loose ends not tied up as well as they could have been, (although they were wrapped up and I wasn't left wondering!)
This is a story about emerging into yourself throughout Adulthood and shows that you continue to grow astronomically as a person, even when you have left your teens. This book also sees a late ADHD diagnoses and realisation which was handled and portrayed wonderfully.
Thankyou to Netgalley, Hodder & Stoughton and Lucy Dillon for an e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

Well the title is incredibly accurate, Robyn while relatable and loveable is definitely irresponsible.
After being fired at work in a viral video, she has to work at her sister's cleaning company, despite not being able to keep her own home clean.
We learn a lot about cleaning, and there are helpful tips at the start of each chapter.
What soon becomes apparent is this will change Robyns life in unexpected ways, as she starts to learn more about herself.
There are some interesting family dynamics at work, which were interesting to delve into.
It's a really enjoyable and entertaining story, from an author I always tend to reach for.
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

“All to do lists should contain the instructions ‘have a cup of tea’.”
(All mine do!)
Robyn and Cleo are sisters with very different attitudes to life. Cleo has her family and her cleaning business, while Robyn struggles to keep her plants alive. After being sacked from her estate agent job, very publicly and humiliatingly, she takes on a cleaning role in her sisters business alongside serious, stern neat freak Jim. There she learns a lot about herself and secrets that can’t stay hidden forever.
Very thankful to be approved for an ARC of this on NetGalley. Thank you @lucydillonbooks @netgalley
One of my favourite things about this book was the useful cleaning tips before the start of each chapter. I thought that was a nice touch.
I haven’t read a book like this in a while that’s not a thriller or something extravagantly unrealistic, it’s purely just real life, (which actually to me is scarier than a thriller). It lead to me having severe stomach pains (I have a pathetically weak stomach anyway) because it was quite painful the self realisation Robyn had to go through and about a third of the way through I got the feeling it was building up to something (AND BOY DID IT!) so I remained tense throughout.
BUT I really enjoyed it, the character development, the overall storyline, as heartbreaking as it was. My only very minor criticism would be that the denouement (what a great word! My mum taught me it recently) happened very quickly, I almost felt like I didn’t have time to process what had happened before the book was over. It was very unexpected and I like being shocked by a book.
I would absolutely recommend this book. It was published 2 days ago so is available to buy!

Lucy Dillon knows how to write a feel-good book, and in her latest, Irresponsible Adult, which is out today, she has written another fun and engaging read. And it even has cleaning tips!
Robyn and her sister Chloe couldn’t be more different. Chloe has a family and a successful cleaning business and leads a very ordered life, whilst Robyn’s life is somewhat chaotic. When Robyn is fired from her job as an estate agent, she goes to work for her sister – and whilst working as a cleaner was never in the life plan, it is in doing the most unlikely job that Robyn begins to find order in chaos, both personally and professionally, and to re-evaluate her own life.
With an entertaining cast of characters, family drama, secrets to keep you guessing and a helping of romance, this is a book that can’t fail to make you smile. A fun read for sure.

Delightfully entertaining from beginning to end!
Sisters Cleo and Robyn are like chalk and cheese; Cleo with her family and successful business, Robyn still winging it and ignoring an important part of her job as an estate agent. When her wrong-doings catch up with her, Cleo steps in and gives her a job in her cleaning firm but she has to partner up with Jim, take life seriously and become 'responsible' - all anathema to Robyn!
This is a well-written, attention grabbing novel which kept me hooked from the very beginning. Thoroughly enjoyable and a fine example of how everyone has secrets. A good read and one I'm happy to recommend. 5*.
My thanks to the publisher for my copy via NetGalley; this is - as always - my honest, original and unbiased review.

Estate Agent and ex child actor, Robyn just can't seem to manage to organise her life properly. Her sister Cleo, offers a job in her house cleaning company where she meets Jim, an expert cleaner, who teaches her lot not only about cleaning, but life in general. Will Robyn be able to sort her life out? Laugh out loud moments, very entertaining reading .

What happens when you’re good at selling houses but rubbish at completing the paperwork? You get sacked. And this is exactly what happens to Robyn. She then has no choice but to go a work for her ultra-organised sister’s cleaning business.
This book is both funny and sad at the same time. Super easy to read but hooks you in so you are totally involved in how Robyn’s life is going to work out after she makes one chaotic decision after another.
A great read.

I enjoyed this book. Cleo the organised sister has a thriving cleaning business. Robyn, the flaky sister had lots of talents but no administration skills in work or life.
Robyn needs a job so starts working for Cleo alongside the taciturn Jim. In the meantime Robyn is looking for a new job and working on am investment property with the charismatic Mitch. There are also historical family dramas going on, which the sisters want to know more about. Robyn is very funny, and her family are lovely. I liked all these characters. It's a good story, and the cleaning tips are excellent! Recommended

Lucy Dillon is back with a remarkable read in my opinion and although we are missing her furry friends that usually make a big presence in her books Irresponsible Adult is without a doubt my new favourite by this author.
The book feels like two books merged together because the first half of the book feels a little lighter as we watch Robyn who has lost her job because of her chaotic mind and what others will see as her lazy lapse ways. With bills to pay and no jobs in the pipeline her sister Cleo gives her a job as a cleaner for her firm which is certainly not what Robyn envisaged doing with her life!
It is whilst working alongside Jim and seeing the way others live that Robyn starts to learn more about herself and she begins to discover ways with the help of Jim to make things a little more structured and manageable.
The second part of the book takes an unexpected spin and digs deeper into Robyn and Cleo’s family life and their lives are about to be turned on its head.
This book explores some touching issues and for me I am so thankful for one in particular and this is a little spoiler in that Robyn discovers that she has ADHD so all of her life where she has been judged or even been hard on herself for mess, tasks unfinished, distraction all have an explanation rather than it being assumed she is just careless and lazy. This is the first book I have read that really looks at the characteristics of this condition and I hope it will help others to start noticing the signs and raise the awareness that it needs.
Lucy Dillon has really created such engaging characters who felt so real and the issues they face are day to day struggles which some will relate to but these are all weaved around an addictive and enjoyable storyline as we see Robyn rebuild her life with some learning curves and some romance along the way. The story also looks at family dynamics and the impact secrets between family members have such a dramatic effect on all those involved.
I couldn’t put this book down and it has certainly left its mark on me and is one I will be recommending to everyone.

I adore Lucy Dillon’s novels and Irresponsible Adult was a warm hearted and enjoyable read.
When Robyn loses her job as an estate agent and is forced to take a job working at her sister’s cleaning agency she feels that her life is falling apart. However this also gives her the opportunity to reflect on her life and what matters to her.
I did find Robyn a little annoying and frustrating initially but I soon became drawn into her story and was really rooting for her by the end. Irresponsible Adult is full of interesting characters and believable family dynamics, There’s a family secret and some romance but mostly this is a novel about understanding ourselves and what matters to us. A beautiful, relatable and hopeful novel that I would recommend.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this digital ARC.

Another feel good read from Lucy
Robyn and her sister Cleo couldn’t be more different, Cleo has her own business, home and three boys whilst Robyn is struggling to adult, struggling with her job at the estate agents, living in rented accommodation unable to keep on top of her cleaning etc! Life changes rapidly when Robyn loses her job and reluctantly starts working for Cleo’s cleaning company. This proves to be a much needed turning point in her life as she starts to makes sense of her life all aided and abetted by the lovely Jim her new coworker!
An unwise investment, dodgy relationship and family revelations add extra depth to the book as Robyn starts to make sense of her life and relationships!
A great relatable read.
Thank you NetGalley for this early read

Robyn is one of those people who can make you really exasperated. On the one hand she seems to be very good at her job (estate agent), but on the other her home life is chaotic to say the least. When the chaos spills over too much in to her work she has a serious problem - no job and therefore no income. In desperation she is forced to work for her super-efficient, high-flying sister; husband and 2 children, successful business, nomination for a local business-women's award.
This is the story of how Robyn finally sorts herself out and even manages to find a good man along the way. Family secrets are also uncovered, as well as some unethical business practices. This is a great read which keeps you turning the pages.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publishers for the opportunity to review this book.

There is something about this author's writing that speaks to my soul - I love it! One of my most favourite reads of the past few years was Where the light gets in which is a heart-warming read that has stayed with me - this is another book by this author that will remain with me. it's funny, witty and written in a way that you are rooting for the heroine, Robyn who might not be the best at admin but has a heart of gold and I would imagine many women in their 20s can relate to her. An absolute 5 star review from me and I will be recommending it to anyone that will listen!

At the beginning of Irresponsible Adult, our main character Robyn is verging on smug (which almost put me off - you have to keep reading).
She's making sales left, right and centre in her estate agent job and she's about to make a huge investment that could set her up for the future.
But then she's fired, and all her money's tied up, and the only thing she can do is help out at her sister's cleaning company, which yes, she looks down at a little bit. Sister Chloe is clearly going through issues of her own but not willing to talk about it, her mum is keeping secrets of a different variety, and the guy she is paired with on various cleaning jobs is so serious about it, it's enough to drive her mad.
Robyn can't work out why her life is falling apart all of a sudden, or why she seems so unequipped to deal with it.
Essentially, Robyn needs to figure out what being an adult means, whether it's finally understanding why it's so vital to take accountability, or uncovering exactly why she might be struggling so much and the steps she can take to improve things.
There's some romance in there, but the book is more than that too; it's about making good but difficult choices so you can be the person you want to be.
And that, for me, is what makes it a memorable and enjoyable read.

I love Lucy Dillon’s writing style and this was a fun, interesting read. I did find the main character slightly frustrating at the beginning but was on her team by the end. A perfect summer read. Thank you!

I am a Lucy Dillon fan and Irresponsible Adult did not disappoint! After a bit of a slow start, I couldn’t put this book down. A plethora of great characters in this book, Robyn did grate on me at first however when she starts at Cleo’s cleaning company and the story progresses, she grew on me, I really resonated with her and her slap dash approach to life!
I guessed early on regarding Mitch and also felt that Mel was hiding something but it wasn’t what I thought. It did feel a little rushed at the end, I’d love a sequel to see how it all pans out in 5 years or so.
Thank you to Hodder & Stoughton for a digital ARC, I shall be recommending this book!

Lovely, cosy, feel-good romance with lots of laugh-out-loud humour. Loved the cleaning tips at the start of each chapter, I've made a note of some of them to try. Well worth a summer read.

Well Lucy Dillon - this was a good one. Robyn the lead is very relatable. I’ve definitely had some Robyn moments in my life- no plans or direction with the inability to finish anything.
Plenty of plot. Twists I did expect to at least one which was out of the blue.
Enjoyed it. Highly recommend.

You know when you pick up a Lucy Dillon book that you are in for a good read. This book is no exception.
You are hooked by all the characters, good and bad traits, family dynamics and job issues
It's not a rollercoaster but a gentle journey with lots to make you smile and in certain places cry.
Robyn has defined herself by her childhood acting career and her big sister Cleo by her cleaning business.
Sackings and honesty pave the way.
Enjoy I did.
