WoW this series has been excellent and Wendy's latest book Grave Mountain by Wendy Dranfield was no different. This book is the seventh book in the excellent Detective Madison Harper series and what a roller coaster ride this has been. It's full of twists and turns throughout, that will have you gripped from the very beginning till the very end.

I highly recommend starting this series from book 1 especially as the main characters grow with each book and you get to know them and their background.
I love the way Wendy writes and she always brings you into each book. Once you open your kindle/book and start to read it, you will find it hard to put it down!

Big Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for my ARC. I loved it!

When a book leaves you wanting more it's very much deserving of its five stars!

I have yet to leave this series anything but five stars it's just superb.

Wow. I don’t know how you do it Wendy but just when you think you have seen it all with the Madison, Nate and the gang you add in more surprises. How anyone lives in that town is beyond me. A very pacy read. You need to be fully alert and concentrate on this one.

Sweet baby Jesus in a canoe…

I love this authors books but man can she stress me out. This was so fast paced I got whiplash. And I love how smart Madison is.

I just want her and Nate to have some happiness. They are both such damaged characters they deserve it. Every single book gets better. Her ability to write a twisted crime thriller is absolutely incredible. I am not anxious for the next book since she has dangled some bits in front of us.

If you are a fan of Lisa Regan, Robert Dugoni and Linda Castillo. Add this author to your TBR.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Grave Mountain' by Wendy Dranfield.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Wendy Dranfield, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 5th April 2024

This is the seventh book I have read by this author. It is also the seventh book in the 'Detective Madison Harper' series. I have previously read 'The Birthday Party', 'Cry For Help' (book 2 in the 'Detective Madison Harper' series), 'Little Girl Taken' (book 3 in the 'Detective Madison Harper' series), 'Gone To Her Grave' ( book 4 in the 'Detective Madison Harper' series), The Night She Vanished and Catch Her Death (book 5 in the 'Detective Madison Harper series). I would highly recommend each and every one of them. All books in Wendy's 'Detective Madison Harper' series can be read as a standalone.

This novel consists of a prologue and 63 chapters l. The chapters are short in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

Wow!!!! Just flipping wow!!!! What an absolutely epic page turner!!! Well done Wendy you have done it yet again!! Absolutely smashed it!!!!!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions creating the perfect atmosphere for the storyline. The book cover and synopsis works perfectly with the book plot and I am most definitely looking forward to reading the next book, and the previous one in this series.

Yet another addictive, nail biting, page turning, heart racing and compelling storyline in this absolutely amazing series!! It has so many layers of mysteries and crimes for the reader to be kept guessing throughout. This fantastic thriller is absolutely packed with twists, turns, shocks, romance, crime and red herrings throughout I had no idea who did what until the end. This is an achievement in itself as it is definitely getting harder to surprise me with the amount of crime novels I've read. There was so many explosive bombshells in this book that I actually lost count on how many times I was shocked which I didn't think would be possible!!! The plot was unique and realistic and Wendy's brilliant descriptions brings absolutely everything to life in front of your eyes. It started straight in the action and kept you going on a roller-coaster ride of suspension throughout. There were several occasions when my heart was in my throat and I the hair was raising on my arms but I won't mention those as not to spoil it for future readers. It is so hard to not say too much without giving anything away to future readers but I'm sure once people have read it they will know exactly what I mean. Well done Wendy you did absolutely amazing and everything was tied up perfectly. The twists and turns in this book left me going from laughter to tears of sadness to absolute shock!!! Prepare yourself for a rollercoaster ride of emotions!!! I just could not put this book down and would absolutely LOVE to see this whole series turned into a TV series!!! Hint, hint Wendy 😉

I have loved this series from the start but I must say Wendy you just keep getting better and better with each book and this has got to be the best so far!!! It is most definitely in my top 5 books I've read this year!!! That may not seem like much but my average is 20/30 a month.

Before you start this make sure you clear your schedule because once you pick it up you are not going to want to put it down!!!!

Although this is the seventh book in the series I had would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

I absolutely loved meeting certain characters again which definitely included Madison, Nate and Brody along with discovering new ones!! Any time I pick up any of Wendy's Detective Madison books I get excited knowing I am about to meet Madison and the gang again. They really have become like old friends to me that I love meeting and am sad to say Goodbye to each and every time I pick up and flew through any books in this amazing series. I just absolutely love the fact that the main lead is such a strong female with a lot of background and yet having gone through so much and still going through so much Madison still refuses to back down regardless of the situation!! I cannot wait to read what happens next with her. I absolutely love and feel for Nate but by God I feel like (and actually do sometimes) screaming at him as he is most definitely his own worst enemy!!! However, of course being an animal lover, my favourites just have to be Brody, Bandit and Mrs Pebbles!!! I also love meeting Mendes again and seeing how her and Madison's relationship develops and changes in each of the books differing on what Madison gets up to lol!! I really didn't click with her when I first met her she has surprised me on a few occasions. There were a few occasions in this book where I wanted to shout at Nate for being a pillock but I wont go into any more details about that and let you make your own opinions of them. thanks to Wendy's fantastic evocative writing skills each and every character has their own unique personality, are strong, well developed and come to life in front of your eyes. Wendy really does suck you into the pages and the action with them and leaves you feeling your heart pounding along with theirs throughout!! All the characters were strong and well defined. I enjoyed that the author gave just the right amount of background information on the characters to let us know about them for it to be a standalone but not too much so if you've read the first book your not going over the same information too much.

Congratulations Wendy on yet another success and here's to the next explosive book in this absolutely epic series!!! This is exactly why you are one of my favourite authors and why this series is in my top 5 crime series!!!

Overall another absolute must read, pulse racing, addictive page turning crime thriller from this extremely talented author that will keep you on edge and addicted.

417 pages.

This book is just £1.99 to purchase on kindle, free on Kindle Unlimited and £9.99 in paperback via Amazon at time of review which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Detective Madison Harper book 7.

I was hooked from that intriguing prologue until the very last page. With a fast paced plot and twists you don't see coming this series just gets better and better. Loved it.

Detective Madison Harper’s heart aches when she attends a local support group for families of missing people in Lost Creek, Colorado. She wishes she could help them all, but one cold case in particular captures her attention. Five years ago, close friends Becky, Tasha and Stuart hiked the infamous Grave Mountain. But only Stuart returned. He claims they were separated by a storm, but the town has never believed him. Convinced Stuart is hiding something, Madison vows to find out what really happened.

Just as Madison reopens the case, her blood runs cold when remains are discovered on the trail where the women were last seen. And when more bodies are discovered, Madison suspects she’s dealing with a serial killer who has used Grave Mountain as a dumping ground for years. How many more bodies are they about to unearth.

Wendy Dranfield never fails. She always delivers a strong, intense plot.
Strong woman. Dog. Tension between friends. Total badass woman -- yes yes yes! I loved this series from the beginning - and I WANT MORE!
Madison gets caught up in a cold case - the bodies are found. As more remains are discovered, Madison and Nate work together to solve this latest case in Lost Creek.

My favourite duo Madison and Nate are back for book 7 in the series. (I do recommend reading from the beginning) And we’re back in Lost Creek with Madison attending a missing persons support group. People with loved ones who have been missing a long time meet in Rubys diner once a month and this is the first time Madison has joined in.

I have devoured absolutely everything Wendy Dranfield has written, this woman can’t write a bad book if she tries. Can’t wait for more Madison, and fingers crossed more in the Dean Matheson series (if you haven’t read that one that I recommend that too) I read this one much slower than usual as I never want each chapter of Madison and Nate to end, another fab installment I thoroughly enjoyed.

I'm a huge fan of this series and always look forward to a new story featuring Madison and Nate, so I couldn't wait to get stuck into Grave Mountain.

Madison gets pulled into the case of Becky Draper, who went missing years earlier on Grave Mountain, along with her best friend Tasha when remains are discovered on the mountain. Things take a turn when more bodies are discovered on the mountain. She thinks it means one thing; Lost Creek has another serial killer in its midst.

Grave Mountain was a tense and gripping read which built to a heart in your mouth ending.

As usual, there were plenty of shocks and surprises along the way, some of which I guessed, others that absolutely stunned me.

I love seeing Madison and Nate's relationship grow and develop, even though it's not plain sailing for them, especially when they're chasing a serial killer. There were also a few developments at the end of the novel, which makes me eager to see what happens next for them.

A wonderfully written police procedural and, as always, I'm keen for more from Nate and Madison!

Would you go hike on a mountain named Grave Mountain? I would not, yet so many people go missing there and I have to wonder about them.

I’m such a fan of Madison and her boyfriend Nate. Both were wrongly imprisoned and Madison is now a cop, while Nate is a private investigator. I enjoy them working through their past and supporting each other. And when the two hit a bumpy patch, how they rebound from it. I am always going to root for a dog or cat in a book, so I love Brody, a retired police dog, even with a small part in this one.

It’s an intense and fast paced police procedural as Madison works to track down two missing girls from a cold case. As more bodies are discovered, it becomes a race to find a killer. The time Madison spends with the families of the missing girls are heartbreaking. I like this storyline where there is friction between Madison and her partner Adams and they are working on trust.

But back to the case. There were so many red herrings that I fell for. Every time I thought I had it all figured out, I was wrong. Again. The case is a stand alone, that is easily followed, but I think this series is best read in order to see Madison and the team’s growth.

Another great one in the Madison Harper Series.

I have loved all the six prior books in the series and this one fits right in.

It's not called Grave Mountain for nothing.

I love the progression of the characters throughout the series. I like that it stays true to form with each installment.

This particular book is just as suspense filled and twisty as the rest. I love that Brody is still along for the ride. I like hearing what is happening with Madison and Nate and the rest of the gang.

I didn't figure out who the killer was until nearly the end, which is a huge plus for me.

I can't wait for number 8. Please write faster Wendy.

Thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the arc.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via Netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. This is the 7th book in the Detective Maddison Harper series however you could read this as a standalone.

This is one of the most twisted cases I have ever read about. So many murders and so many broken families. Wendy had me really stumped on this one. When I did work it out all I could think is that the killer is one twisted individual.

The story is fast paced and full of suspense. The story is woven in both the present with little snippets of the past dropped in here and there. We slowly learn about each of our victims and how they were killed. There were many moments where my heart was in my throat.

Wendy has written another stonker of a book for this series and I already can’t wait for the next one.

Detective Madison Harper attends a support group for families of missing children at the local diner. The pain in the room is palpable, as is the anger. When one set of parents describe how their daughter and her friend disappeared while on a hike up a popular mountain trail, Madison discovers that the last person to see the women alive is in the room, a young man who was their hiking partner. In the middle of the meeting, Madison receives a call that a body has been found on that mountain. She leaves wondering if the remains could be those of the parents' daughter or friend. When there is evidence that puts the young man at the diner in the crosshairs of the investigation, Madison and her partner go to arrest him but end up witnessing his suicide with final words that might implicate him as the murderer. When more remains are discovered on the mountain, a serious investigation to identify the bodies and match them with cold cases begins. Can Madison figure out the answers needed to identify a serial murderer? It's a great read!

Grave Mountain is the seventh Detective Madison Harper book in the series. I have followed this series from the beginning, so I have all of the prior backstory for Madison Harper and Nate Monroe, but enough important facts about their background are given that it works as a standalone.

Grave Mountain is a suspenseful, fast-paced procedural thriller. What begins as a cold missing person case becomes a hunt for a serial killer. The investigation is engaging and the side plots with Madison and her former friend/now boyfriend Nate, as well as other members on Madison's team are also interesting. I like Madison and Nate individually and as a couple and appreciate the fast pace and complicated plot of the story. It kept my interest throughout the book, but was sometimes too intense for me. When the truth starts coming out about the killings, the person behind them is revealed to be so evil, it was hard to read some of the passages. There is a dramatic showdown involving both Madison and Nate but wrapping up in a hopeful ending.

I received an advance copy of this ebook at no cost from NetGalley and Bookouture, but my review is voluntary and unbiased.

Grave Mountain by Wendy Dranfield is another excellent Detective Madison Harper story.
I have thoroughly enjoyed all the previous in the series so was eagerly waiting for this. It didn't disappoint and kept me hooked throughout.
This was a gripping read, with an excellent storyline full of twists and turns.
I loved that this story is full of tension and mystery.
A fast-paced, heart-pounding, engrossing case and one that I highly recommend to those who enjoy crime fiction.

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

Grave Mountain is giving up her dead one body at a time,
I wondered if anyone would be left In town as the bodies were stacking up.
One character is killed that I hadn’t expected and it did surprise me.
I thought Madison was mean to Nate at one point, but to his credit he remained sweet.
Ms. Pebbles joins the pet ensemble and poor Brody is scared of her.
Brody does have a few scenes but he needs more page time.
I didn’t know who was committing the murders until it was revealed.
A huge move is made by Nate and Madison at the end, but will they be allowed to enjoy it?

Detective Madison Harper returns for another addictively thrilling story.

That sees her thrust into the hunt for another serial killer. When she's tasked with meeting with a local support group for families who are desperately searching for their missing loved ones.

And whilst one or two are initially hostile towards Madison, one woman, in particular, just wants answers about her missing daughter Becca. But weirdly, the man she believes killed her has come along to the meeting too.

Yet, just as he starts to explain about what happened five years ago when he, Becca and their friend Tasha went for a hike on the eerily named Grave Mountain Madisons partner appears with news that bones have been discovered in the exact spot Becca and Tasha were last seen alive.

And soon more remains are discovered. Only their main suspect isn't providing any answers.

Then a murder happens that shakes Madison to the core and has her questioning everything especially how she can keep those she loves most safe.

But before she can truly answer that question the remains begin to be identified and the case becomes even more confounding.

Until the last person Madison expected to see, walks into the station with an extraordinary tale to tell.

And now the hunt is on.

Only Madison will have to risk everything and everyone if she is to catch a killer the press has dubbed the "Grave Mountain Stalker."

And with twists and turns you won't see coming. This is a story I couldn't put down and another cracking addition to what is a fantastic series and one I would happily recommend to all.
