Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to explore a new genre by providing access to an ARC of this book.
I was pleasantly surprised - Plug and Drain has a fast paced plot that holds together throughout the novel. The characters are drawn well and evoke appropriate emotions (heroes are heroic, villains are villainous, and the villain by circumstance is pathetic/adorable). It's not classic literature and I don't feel I'm a convert to the genre, however, I got straight on to the e-copies of the previous Plug and Claim duology and have recommended the author and series to several friends. I cannot in good conscience rate this book at anything less the 4 stars.

When they turn 18, young werewolves join young vampires at Volmasque Academy to complete their education. The vampires live together, form cliques and learn how to establish a dominant relationship with their werewolves, The wolves live together, form packs, and learn how to submit to vampires. During her first year at the Academy, Susy establishes herself as an Alpha, holds pack meetings in the library, carves out her own personal sanctuary behind walls of books, and learns to avoid the worst of the teacher and vampire student attention. Unfortunately Headmaster Arcane has taken more than a casual interest in her schooling and Suzy's plans to stay under the radar during her second year are falling apart.

As is often the case with books that don't quite hit the mark, the ending let me down. Suzy is drawn as an exceptionally strong FMC, matching vampire wickedness at [almost] every turn. To achieve the cliff-hanger ending the author chose to have Suzy take action which is both in-character selfless, and out-of-character stupid. I am looking to Plug and Arcane to see how this situation is resolved. Nb: I hope it is not a MMC to the rescue development.

Don't skip the introduction at the beginning of the novel (and others in the series). If you are new to dark romance or will potentially be triggered by the content of the story, including sexual violence/violence, BDSM, the use toys and restraints, you will find a strong indicator here. There were elements I found uncomfortable and topics I'd not considered previously that led to some fascinating conversations about consent, safety and responsibility in relationships and power dynamics.

WOW! I wasn't expecting all that had happened in this book! To start with this book had a hold over me! Between the character development and the plot of the story, I was engaged and did not want to put it down. I thought Darcy did a fantastic job with the details in the book and drawing your attention. I have read books similar to this and this one by far takes the cake!

Susie is a werewolf who isn't able to fully shift and cares about all around her. She wants to try and change the school because she does not agree with what is happening there. She would rather sacrifice herself than let anyone else go through what the teachers want the werewolves to do.
Arken is a vampire and headmaster who is arrogant, and self-absorbed. When he comes across Susie he is instantly star-struck. He wanted her to be his pet. Arken tries to play hard and act like she doesn't have a hold over her but she does. Throughout the book you see Arken change into someone who is caring, protective, and deep down has a lot of demons.
The storyline between the two of them becomes hot and heavy and quick! The way they both care about each other is sweet and draws you in! They have a love for each other that they weren't ready to deal with! As the book develops it's hard not to fall in love with them. Their connection was EVERYTHING!!!

Thank you, NetGalley, for letting me read this ARC! Thank you, Darcy Fayton, for writing a book that draws you in and keeps your attention throughout. I enjoyed this book, and can't wait to read other books from you!

Thank you NetGalley for this eARC. All opinions are my own.

This book follows Susie and Arken, a wolf student and the vampire headmaster at Volmasque Academy. One night Susie steps in and offers herself to the headmaster (both for him to feed and have sex with) to save a fellow student. From there you follow the two in this academy as things happen around them.

I really wanted to like this book. I enjoy reading dark fantasy romance erotica from time to time even if it is not the best world or greatest writing but this book failed on so many levels. Firstly the world building was lackluster. The book jumps straight in with very little information being provided on how the different species and the magic works. We know that vampires drink blood and prefer wolfs, and the wolfs are forced be submissive and can shift (sometimes). There is so much that is left unexplained about the pack structures of the wolves, how vampires work (bloodlines are mentioned once and then we learn nothing about their societal structure), the kingdom and the issues with the King, and then 75% way into the book we learn there are whole new species out there with two lines are never given anymore information. The plot is also kind of non existent, which I don't mind that much. Also, the ending was not a cliffhanger, from the note at the beginning I was expecting something to actually happen and the book to end, this more felt like the author wanted to split the story into two books and just decided ok this is as good as any a place to end book 1.

My biggest issue with this book is the (lack of) conversation about consent and constant presence of SA. This book is trying to sell non consensual sex between the main characters as dubcon many times in the book. The first interaction between the FMC and MMC (which is the first scene in the book) is the MMC going into the FMC's room and having sex with her without consent and trying to convince himself, her and us that she wants it. Which isn't even important since he mentions in his inner dialogue that he would have forced her regardless. We hear in the thoughts of the FMC that she does not want and she says out loud that she does not have a choice but to say yes both because he is the headmaster and he is stronger than her. In a later scene, the MMC says stop/wait multiple times to the FMC while she is giving him a blow job and she keeps going regardless. All of these are at some point or another is sold to us romantic and sweet. (Also, there is an actual SA scene that is a whole chapter written in detail, happening to the FMC by the villain. There is a warning at the beginning of the chapter and a summary at the end for those who wanted to skip. I personally did not want to read that chapter after all the red flag regarding SA and consent earlier in the book.) I understand that the author wanted to build a harsh world where SA is constant towards the oppressed group but the wat the romance was build ended up romanticizing SA.

Please check trigger warnings if you want to read this book.

I liked this book. It is different from what I usually read. It is spicy and an enjoyable read and the ending left me wanting to read the next in the series. The author could have eased up on the rape scenes which were multiple in number. But I did like the book. Usually I don’t read too much erotica but it held my attention and was different. I will be reading the next book in the series. The cover though cracked me up.

This is a a very dark romance of a different kind. It's definitely not going to be for everyone taste. Some of the tropes are quite brutal and very disturbing but it's a paranormal fantasy. It was well written from both our H pov but I would I like less inner thoughts. It was sometime very repetitive. It's very very steamy 5🔥. This is book 1 of the duology. If you can stomach it until the end, book 2 is the conclusion.
I voluntary review this ARC and the opinion expressed here is my own.

I was truly gripped by this story, it does end on a cliffhanger as it is part of a duology. I am looking forward to the continuation of Arken and Susie’s story. To me I would definitely call this a dark fantasy romance, there were a few parts that were just so hard for me to read. Please read the trigger warnings and be aware before going in. There is one chapter where you can chose to read a summary instead of the detailed chapter which I thought was awesome of the author to include but I ended up reading the chapter. Yes, there are awful things that happen in this book but I believe it’s all needed to tell Susie and Arken story. This is the world they live in, under the rule of an abhorrent and twisted king but even through the darkness love can develop.

This is a dark paranormal romance that delves into the lives of the vampires vs the wolf shifters with a bit of witches thrown in as an enhancement. Suzie looks out for the underdogs or in this case the wolf shifters as they are the abused class at the school. The book actually looks sternly at abuse between races or racial divides, but does so using vampires, wolf shifters and witches. The vampires are the race in charge, the wolf shifters are their blood and sex slaves and witches are supposed to be extinct. Suzie tries to make life better for the wolf shifters, but is up against the vampire hierarchy as well as wolves that have aligned themselves with vampires or have found themselves a strong enough pack to stand up to the vampires. Make no mistake this is a dark book as it does deal with brutal assault in more than instance. While the assaults are upsetting, they do set the scene more graphically and impact the storyline. If assault is a trigger for you, then definitely find another book. This book is a prequal to a series and sets the tone. It does end on a cliffhanger so am assuming the next book will pick up where this one leaves off or shortly thereafter. Overall, the characters are interesting, thoughtfully written and the plot draws you in. If you like a dark paranormal romance, then this one might be the one you are looking for to whet your appetite for the full series! Overall, I'd say it was a good, entertaining read and I'm intrigued to see where the author takes the series next.

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to review this Arc Copy by Darcy Faylon - Plug and Drain

I would like to start with this with a request.
Reviews are important but If you can, read reviews after you have read a Book so it does not impact your view and opinion while reading the book. I personally prefer to read reviews after to see who viewed a book as I did, who didn't finish it and why - or to even be made aware of something I could have missed.
But I feel you should always try to read a book that you find interesting first before looking for other people opinions - simply because they aren't you own.

I love Dark Romance, and if you add Paranormal or Supernatural aspects to it - it usually has me hooked.
This Book was no different, I love the plot, I like the world we get to know throughout this book since I personally haven't yet read any other book by the authors so it was my first introduction to this world.

This is a Teacher/Student and is part 1 of a Duology
We have the FMC Susanna ( Susie ) - Wolf
and the MMC Arken who is Headmaster of The Volmasque Academy - Vampire
other characters such as Witches are included in that Story

There are quiet a few triggers to consider such as :

Age gap, BDSM, Dom/Sub, CNC, Dubcon
Noncon / SA (one explicit, vivid scene involving the FMC and another male character MMC)
Suicide ideation / Attempted suicide (flashback)
Loneliness, Trauma, Grief
Plugging, anal play, humiliation, degradation, praise, vampire feeding

So please be sure to check them, Darcy does explain quiet a lot of details in her Preface - including warnings on Chapter where SA will be experienced and also added a summary for those that won't feel comfortable to read that chapter which I find very considerate and appreciate it for those that might not feel comfortable enough to read these scenes, that the Author offers alternatives to be able to continue the story.

I think my main / if not only CON is the 3rd person POV's.
I personally have a hard time connecting to characters if written in 3rd person, while I did not feel it in this book
I did often got a bit annoyed when the names just kept repeating themselves.

To make a wholesome joke:
Take a shot every time it says Susie and I promise you will be no more :D

I did really enjoy the story and want to continue reading, once the second part comes out I will for sure want to see how their story Ends, and then move to the other stories, I want to know more about the Witches.

Thank you to Net Galley for this ARC!

Plug and Drain is a fantasy-romance with vampires and werewolves. Our FMC Susie is a werewolf who can't fully shift and is considered bottom tier in her species. Vampires rule over the werewolves and cause a slave dynamic. Susie is basically the "runt of the litter" type of character, but it doesn't stop her from standing up for what she believes in and defending her peers. She's kind, observant and puts others needs before her own.

Arken on the other hand, is everything but. He's arrogant, self-absorbed and undeserving of his Headmaster title. He basically stumbles upon Susie while trying to feed from another student and it picks up from there. Susie finds herself enamored with Arken and the dynamic turned out to be everything I wanted. Arken does have redeeming moments and I enjoyed the way he treated her as an equal and not a pet. We get to watch the relationship develop and I'm already excited for the second book!!

If you're looking for a vampire/werewolf romance mixed with some dark elements; this book is for you!

Good spice and liked the chemistry between them. Can't wait for book 2!

Tw: SA, CNC, blood, trauma

Volmasque Academy turns into a sinister world of illicit fantasies as night falls, forcing wolf shifters like Susie to give in to the sinister will of vampires. Susie finds herself at the precipice of survival and conscience when the headmaster shows up out of the blue intending to prey on a defenseless female student. Their relationship starts as Susies selfless chose herself to give in to the headmaster in order to protect Molly (who has questionable identity). Headmaster Arken, troubled by his disrupted history, drinks to dull his grief and endures the tough daily routine at the institution not until a pupil catches his attention, ending his boredom and providing a ray of hope for the future.

I underestimated this book. Typical Wana, i delved into this book not knowing what it is about 😃 I read 🌶 books but this book omfg. Why is Susie soooooo hny hahahaha I cannot leave my review seriously because this book really shocked me NOT in a negative way tho. Plug and Drain has a nice world building tho it circles into erotica more. Despite reading those, I loved Nathaniel and Arken's relationship on how they got both of their backs whatever happens. I wish we get go see each of the characters behavior more in the next book.

If you are sensitive on VERY dark romance, there is a chapter wherein you can read it LESS steamy. Plus points to the author for that! 🤓 This is a fast paced and gripping read. I can't wait to read the next book!!

Thanks to Netgalley for this arc. This is a really easy read and really spicy of course. This was a short book and the romance wasn’t too deep for me but I really liked this book from beginning to end. Suzie was a pretty normal character but Arkan was pretty swoony and straight forward. Lots of diverse characters but we don’t really get to learn about them at all which is a bummer but dang, the spice is hot in this and I enjoyed it.

I wanted to like this book but ultimately the character and world development didn't provide the backbone this book needed to execute some of the darker themes.

I never got a good feel for the main characters, particularly the MMC. This made the relationship between the two main characters fall flat and feel unearned. It also made the darker content feel even more dark in a way that didn't really add anything other than shock value. The world building also contributed to this. We know there are vampires and werewolves but we really don't know a lot about either of them. The only thing we learn about the MMC being a vampire is that he feeds off of werewolves and witches feed off him. Other than that, he's just a dude. Because I didn't get a good sense of this world things like the basically how to rape a werewolf class also felt unnecessary and grotesque for no reason.

I do really appreciate how the author addresses the dark material in the novel. I think it is a class act on how to prepare and take care of your readers and Darcy Fayton should take a lot of pride in that. The pre content warnings and in text content warnings with post chapter summary is fantastic.

Thank you NetGalley and author Darcy Fayton for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

"As night falls, Volmasque Academy transforms into a dark realm of forbidden desires, where wolf shifters like Susie are forced to succumb to the dark will of vampires. When the headmaster unexpectedly arrives to feed on a vulnerable female student, Susie has an overwhelming urge to shield her and finds herself standing at the crossroads of morality and survival. To protect another, can Susie muster the courage to invite the monster into her room—and into her bed?

Haunted by his dark past, Headmaster Arken seeks solace in drink to numb his pain, and trudges through the daily grind at the academy. Until a student captures his eye, breaking his monotony and offering a glimmer of hope for the future. Inspired by Susie's ambition to transform the academy for the better, Arken finds himself craving not only her blood, but her companionship as well. But to win her heart, he must contemplate the toughest challenge of transforming himself."

This is a fun and enjoyable read. I like the first one, and I like this one too. This is a very spicy book so please read at your own risk.

Plug and Drain is a erotic fantasy-romance set in a world where vampires reign over werewolves, who serve as food supply and sexual pets. Susie is a werewolf who exists on the bottom-tier of the already denigrated werewolves as someone who can't fully shift. Strong trigger warnings are necessary for this book, as we start off learning about forced sexual encounters and assaults in multiple character backgrounds.

Darcy has done a fantastic job of setting up an intriguing world. Our vampire king is introduced as a sadistic villain, and the school setting really serves to further the world-building, with classes about submission. Our character POV's also further serve the world-building -- at the start, I was really annoyed with Professor Arken for being so blase about the assaults in his school; for sleeping with a student despite knowing it was inappropriate; and most strikingly to me, for being so shocked that our main character had never had an orgasm during sex. Like, whoopdeedoo, she's making all these passive comments about non-consensual sex and all he cares about is the orgasm??
But, taking a step back from that immediate alarm in my brain, all of this fits in with the world. Our MMC finds abhorrent actions to be the norm because they ARE the norm. And I have to say, I respect that Darcy was able to reflect that with internal monologuing, when most of the time, authors just write a morally-upright character that disagrees with the rules to make their own characters more palatable.

From a writing perspective, this book could use a heavy dose of more "show, not tell." Especially at the start of the book, it felt like our characters were just info-dumping, whether about the school set-up or how they looked. "I'm a strawberry blonde, curvy, blah blah." It felt reminiscent of poor erotica writing -- and now that I've read more erotica books, I'm setting higher standards! We can have good writing and a book about sex!

Giving this book 2 stars for the well-developed world, but poor writing and 5/5 for spice level!

First off the first page… 🥵 “Are you ready pet? On your knees, there’s a good girl…” yes that was written to YOU, not the character…

I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about the teacher/student vibe originally but it was written well where it wasn’t your typical teacher/student story so it kept you interested.

The wolf/vampire dynamic is interesting. I’ve not seen a dynamic like it where the wolves are basically sex slaves to them. Definitely some trigger for rape but it’s warned. But it wasn’t very descriptive in those scenes if it is difficult.

I am ready for the next story. It was left on a cliffhanger!!! But it was such a good one! There are so many ways it could go.

Welcome to a world of vampires and wolf shifters. They are ruled by a viscous vampire king who has made it so that vampires are the elite species while wolf shifters are turned into pets and witches are illegal. Interspecies relationships are also illegal.

This story follows a steamy love story between the vampire head master Arken and a student wolf shifter Susie. We find that Arken is surprisingly sweet for a vampire. He treats Susie like an equal instead of a pet.

There are plot twists at every corner. It really keeps you on your toes. The spice is off the charts and is not for the shy. Speaking of which, please check your trigger warnings. There’s two pages you should definitely read through before you dive in.

I was mostly hooked from the beginning. Although, I did find myself setting the book aside to take a break here and there. I still flew through it. It did end on a cliffhanger.

This is a prequel to the Plug and Claim Duology.

3.5/5

Teacher/student
Age gap
Paranormal

Plug and Drain is a steamy Paranormal dark romance. The spice was good with an amazing plot line. Susie is a part human part wolf that can't fully shift. Arken is a vampire who is the headmaster of the school. Susie sticks up for those that can't stick up for themselves. She is one to think of others before herself and save people. Can she save Arken from the things he has done? Does he feel worthy? This book is worth the read I can't wait for the next book.

Another well written escapist fantasy from Darcy Fayton!
This story focuses on the forbidden romance between Arken- the vampire headmaster at Volmasque academy and Susie, a student. Susie is an anomaly- she should be a wolf shifter but instead she’s caught forever half way between a wolf and a human so she’s got a permanent tail and ears and short claws. She’s an outsider indeed. Having always been on the outside she’s quite sensitive and perceptive of other outsiders. She’s giving and kind and willing to put others needs before her own.
Arken- to start with is really just a burned out drunk who was awarded the headmaster position by the king as a pawn that can be controlled and reliable.
In a desperate need to feed, Arken finds Susie after she begs him not to take another student. She knows she shouldn’t enjoy this, but to her consternation, she finds herself attracted to this enigma of a vampire. And thus the story begins.
Fayton skillfully navigates the reader through the development of their unique dynamic while telling the tale of the situation at the Academy, and setting the stage for Kira’s arrival. There is a good balance of spice and plot, and I very much enjoyed the short references to Kira and her impending arrival.
This gets 4 stars because I so much dislike any story where Heinrick shows up for longer than a mention or two. While he’s necessary for the plot, I wish he was somehow less.

This book wasn't my cup of tea, but I still finished it and thought the plot was interesting and the writing was well-done.
