After setting her sights on Cary, Anna believes she has found an ideal partner. His wife disappeared a year earlier, believed dead, and he has a young daughter, Harper, who quickly adapts to her new "mommy". Anna moved into Cary's home, but his first wife, Presley's mother also lives there. She is not happy and does everyting she can to sabotage Anna being accepted in the community. Anna is having a hard time living in the shadow of perfect Presley, but wins over Harper easily. All seems to be going well, until Anna finds Presley's diary and begins to suspect that Cary is not what he seems.

As I began reading His Last Wife, I thought I knew where this story was going, but boy was I wrong. Ruhi Choudhary has added several twists that took me on a roller coaster ride to find out what happened to Presley, as well as what secrets Anna was hiding. I felt bad for Anna, the newbie to the neighbourhood, always compared to Presley, talked about behind her back, and not included in the many things the women did together. She wanted to keep some of her own identity, but Cary wanted to turn her into the "perfect" wife. I loved little Harper. I know she was young, but she had her own character traits. She seemed to accept Anna quickly as her new mother, but it had been a year, and Anna was devoted to her. This is a story full of lies, secrets, deceit, jealousy, desire, manipulation and twists. The ending was very satisfying with all ends tied up and left me with a smile on my face. Yes, you will need to suspend belief, but I just went with it. Several reviewers have commented on the generic cover, but as you read this one, you will understand the significance of the red door.

His Last Wife is a slow pace book and in parts had me gripped, I wasn't sure what to expect having not read anything by this author before but was an enjoyable read.

Why have I never read a book by Choudhary before now? This was brilliant, the perfect piece of escapism reading.

I was addicted from the very first page and couldn't turn the pages fast enough. It's fast paced, super twisty and certainly full of the shock factor.

The characters throughout are great, well developed, credible and made for a great story.

I'm certainly going to be reading from my this author in the future now.

I couldn’t get myself invested into the writing. I found the flow to be off for some reason.

The characters were flat and the suspense was a little lacking throughout. Not a favourite for me unfortunately .

His wife goes missing and he starts dating a new lady who starts to take her place. This book kept my attention and kept me wanting to come back for more. Lots of twists towards the end. When you think you may know what’s going to happen something else comes up. I would high recommend this book!

To begin with this was a slow burn. It really felt dragged out and could have been a lot shorter. It was an ok storyline if a little unbelievable and with many a red flag. The characters weren’t overly likeable and I really found Anna to be irritating and her inner thoughts and actions just became tedious. The pace picked up about 3/4’s of the way in with some surprising twists that definitely caught my attention. It was an ok and the outcome definitely saved it.

3.5/5 🌟🌟🌟/🌟

Anna and Cary are living in their dream home in an affluent neighbourhood with a beautiful daughter, Harper. Anna may not have given birth to Harper, but she adores the angelic little girl and is her mother in every sense of the word. But there is one fly in the ointment of their happiness: Cary’s first wife, Presley. Presley was perfect, and Anna is struggling with living in her shadow. But when she discovers that Cary lied to her about Presley’s disappearance, Anna begins to wonder if he’s all that he appears to be. She searches their room for answers and stumbles across Presley’s diary, which contains worrying accusations against the man she loves. Could he have played a part in his wife’s disappearance? And can Anna uncover the truth without revealing her own secrets?

Forbidding, ominous and suspenseful, this edge-of-your-seat thriller was like a layer cake; filled with a multitude of twists, turns, red herrings, and revelations that kept coming right until the last page. Cleverly choreographed, intricate, and convoluted, Ruhi Choudhary held me in a vice grip as she shattered my predictions with each unforeseen twist. There’s secrets, lies, toxic relationships, and - possibly - murder; all taking place behind the doors of an affluent neighbourhood where appearances are everything. There’s constant drama, a very real sense of danger that permeates the pages, and so many twists that I felt dizzy. I needed answers!

Chaoudhary has created a cast of varied, compelling, and realistic characters who you can imagine living in a neighbourhood like Rosedale. I felt like I’d stepped into a darker version of the Real Housewives with all of the catty backstabbing, drama and displays of grandeur. Anna was the perfect fish out of water and it was easy to root for her as I think we can all relate to that feeling, but knowing she was hiding something did make me wonder if she was a reliable narrator. Presley might not appear on the pages until her diary, but Choudhary perfectly captures that sense of her shadow being cast over everything and she feels like a constant presence. Also perfectly captured is Cary. Choudhary has expertly written this charming man who love-bombs Anna before slowly revealing his true self. He was all-too recognisable and I was screaming at Anna to run away but understood the pull to remain that she felt because of Harper. But the character I found most chilling was ‘The Watcher’; an unknown person who is watching Anna and Cary and seems to have malevolent intentions. I had so many theories about who this person could be - most of them wrong.

Sinister, tense and unpredictable, this is a must for the TBR of every thriller-lover.

The twists and turns!!! I could not put this book down! It gave McFadden vibes in parts but Choudhary definitely made this their own. Looking forward to more from this author. Thanks to NetGalley for the chance to review

I have to give this book only 4 stars because as much as I enjoyed the story itself, the writing was hard for me to follow and seemed to jump around a little too much for my liking. While the ending was a bit more predictable towards the end, I enjoyed being able to guess what truly happened before we found out by reading it.
This was a great read, and I highly recommend it if you're looking for a quick-paced thriller read! You will not regret reading this one!

Loved it! This book had me turning the pages to see how everything was going to unravel, and I was NOT disappointed. It had me guessing throughout, and I never figured it out. Kudos to the author.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and the author for an advanced reading copy.

This book had me hooked from the start. The characters were mysterious and complex. It had me guessing constantly! I kind of figured it all out about 75% of the way through, I just felt the end was really outlandish. I appreciated that everything was wrapped up at the end.

Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Meeting Cary soon finds Anna thinking she might just be about to live an idyllic life. Things start off from friendship, but they soon marry. Everything is indeed perfect, and this includes Anna becoming the stepmother of Cary’s daughter, Presley.

However, that perfect life that Anna is now living? Well, there are missing pieces to this puzzle, pieces that slowly become apparent. For one thing, after Cary confesses that his first wife Presley disappeared. Then there is one room in the house that Anna is not allowed to enter. Despite her beginning to feel a bit uncertain, Anna finds that she falls more in love with Harper every day so she tries to ignore her shaky feelings. As the days progress, Anna realizes that she really needs answers, even if whatever secrets there are destroy the strong love she has formed for Cary and even for Harper.

What a wild ride! This book by Ruhi Choudhary kept me on my toes! It was a sharp, crisp read full of tension and with excellent pacing. While Anna is the primary protagonist, the chapters in this thrilling read are peppered with chapters narrated by an unknown “watchter”. These chapters, as well as Anna’s growing ordeal, made His Last Wife an excellent read from start to finish.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Holy cow. A book that starts so tame turns into a wild ride at the end. I’m such a fan of the author’s detective Mackenzie Price, so I thought I’d try one of her stand alone novels.

It seemed a little familiar at the start and I was sure I knew where this one was headed. And I was wrong. There were a few zinger twists, that while they may not be the most plausible, I give credit anytime I am bamboozled.

While there are multiple narrators, the beginning is focused on Anna and the watcher. The watcher is one of those unnamed characters that the reader gets a chance to try and figure out who they could be.

I knew there was something off about Anna and Cary but I couldn’t’ decide if it was that she was willing to move so quickly with a man whose wife was missing and presumed dead or if there was more to it. This hook had me and I raced through the book to the roller coaster finish to see if I could figure it out.

Aside from Harper, Cary’s daughter, I am not sure I liked any of the characters. But that is not a deal breaker for me in a domestic suspense. It makes it easier for me to accept their terrible behavior.

I loved that the audiobook had two female narrators. it made it so easy to follow the focus of the chapters. Penelope Rawlins and Kelly Burke did a great job narrating and their voices really fit the characters they voiced.

The twists at the end of this book had my jaw ON the floor! Up until then it dragged a bit but glad the ending turned it around. The descriptions of Rosedale and the neighbors were spot on- I felt like I was there. No one was really like-able but that’s okay to me in thrillers! Some of the events and character actions seemed a bit far fetched but still overall an enjoyable read!

“One of us was going to end up dead and one of us was going to be responsible for it.”

Red door...
Lies....
Gaslighting....
Twists....

Wow this book was a phenomenal read! We meet a whole cast of characters with a complex, thrilling domestic story. I had such a hard time putting this one down. It started with a great, hooking prologue, and had good character development with the back story carefully crafted. Every twist was carefully planned and executed amazingly.

I HIGHLY recommend this read! This was my first book by Ruhi Chourdhary but I will definitely be checking out her other work!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC opportunity!

His Last Wife by Ruhi Choudhary is not her typical police procedural but was instead a psychological thriller, not typically my cup of tea and this book is an example of why. I could not tell who the bad guys were and the good guys. Everyone involved was nuts, in my opinion, and even when I was finished I had no idea who had done wrong and who had not. Maybe the neighbor, Craig, was innocent? Maybe not. It was nothing more than a mess. Everyone had secrets, big secrets. Everyone was committing a crime. I could never tell who was real and who was not. It confirmed my opinion of psychological thrillers.

Great read. Loved the relationship between Anna and Harper. I could tell something was off about Cary from the beginning. The twists were great. Some points got dragged out but the ending tied up with a neat little bow with an ending that was appropriate.

A compelling read that once started you will not want to put down. With a strong female lead and a story full of intrigue and suspense, Ruhi Choudhary has written an intriguing thriller that will keep you wanting to come back for more.
This book is full of twists and turns that kept on coming.
I found the characters intriguing, and as the plot began to unfold throughout the book I found it impossible to put down.
Overall, it was a really good read, and I would say this book is for people who want mystery/thrillers with twists and turns.

I have read and enjoyed Ruhi Chaoudhary's series and so I wanted to try out her standalone novel.

His last wife is a story of a woman named Anna who meets a surgeon named Cary. Cary's first wife Presley disappeared without a trace and Anna soon enters into Carys life. But as she starts her new life, she finds some dark secrets about Cary...
I did think that this book will end up becoming great but....it wasn't really great actually. The writing was good. There were twists and turns, most unexpected ones in the book. But I found the book too slow, and all the characters in the book were confusing to me. The ending wasn't really great in my opinion nonetheless. I know Ruhi Chaoudary writing Is impeccable and knows how yo keep the reader on the edge. The twist revealing at the end was great and unexpected but the ending again was confusing. I could have given a solid four stars but I will give on threes stars.

Thanks Netgalle and Bookouture for ARC. Review is based on my honest opinion only
