A 'new drug' is flooding New York City, to which even long recovered ex-addicts succumb in masses. Soon, brutal and seemingly unmotivated shootings and other acts of violence occur with rapidly increasing frequency, and a group of survivors must ask themselves whether there might be something even more evil and mighty at the core of all this than a new drug: The Lower Power.

A dark and gritty tale set in a nightmarish apocalyptic New York City, in parts reminiscent of Stephen King's 'The Stand'. The sense of utter despair, and the vortex of fear and violence Michelle W. Miller creates is almost palpable, that oily grubby film of cold hopelessness you can't get off, no matter how hard you try, blanketing everything. While some of the later turns were a bit too convenient for the story's solution (and the ending as such a bit too quick for me), Michele W. Miller does a great job at creating vivid images and a story that pulls you right into its grip. She writes what she knows and she shows that worId stunningly. f I hadn't been in a particularly bad headspace during my reading this, battling depression and worse, I'd surely have rated this even higher.

Thank you, NetGalley and HOW Club Press, for the chance to read a copy in exchange for an honest review!

Twisty, gritty and disturbing at times. A well plotted mix of horror and thriller that kept hooked and turning pages.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

I thought this was really well written, it had everything that I was looking for from the horror genre. The characters were everything that I was looking for and enjoyed the overall feel of the concept. I enjoyed the idea of a urban survivors trying to save themselves again. Michele W. Miller has a great writing style and I was hooked from the first page. It uses the horror and the mystery elements perfectly. I enjoyed the supernatural element and can't wait to read more from Michele W. Miller.

I won't argue; this story is definitely immersive and you can't help but cringe at all the junkie behavior. I will most likely come back to this book later because the premise is intriguing and it starts off really strong, but I feel like it lost a lot of momentum. DNF’ing at 20% because the author was still introducing new characters and the plot hadn't moved much.

It's well-written and interesting, just not keeping my attention at the moment.

Thank you to the author and NetGalley to be an arc for this book.

This book really reminded me of the stand , but with drugs instead of the flu! It really was a great read , and the different characters really pull on your heartstrings. I’ve never heard of this author before but I’ll be keeping an eye out for more books from her!

4 stars.
