I didn't realise this was part of a series when I started it, but it didn't really matter. I would have liked more info on the characterisation, which would have been in the first 2 books, but there was enough to allow me to enjoy it.
I listened to the audiobook version and the narrator was engaging and kept me interested.
Good story, easy to follow, kept me interested.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an ARC.

I found this book heartbreaking. Cleverly told in two timelines but you aren't aware of this until much later. The stories focus on Bryn, a child terrorised by an abusive father with a mental illness, a violent gang led by the man who murdered Archer's father, and a series of horrific, torturous murders carried out on parents by the Silent Man.
I found the story of Bryn so upsetting that it eclipsed everything else in this amazing book. His story was well told with care and understanding.

The 3rd in a series this also works as a stand alone story. The language was very gritty and rhe action starts straight away. This was my first outing with the characters i throughly enjoyed every second. At tines it appeared there were 2 or 3 separate stories. I loved it when they were pulled together. The narrator gave real emotion to all characters. The subject matter was tough going but it was paced correctly and felt a short listen. I could see this as a film. Very entertaining. Highly recommended brilliant development characters action packed plot. Perfect high quality audio narration. Thank you netgallery and publisher and author and narrator for this 5 star listen.

I didn’t realise this was the 3rd book in the series and it’s only after finishing it I feel that reading the first 2 is a must. It would have definitely added to the listen and build up more of the backstory for me. It was a good listen that started off strong and moved at a steady pace but in the middle it slowed the pace and it felt a little drawn out. I found the storyline interesting and engaging and found the characters likeable and feel they would be the type of characters you would come to love. Good listen that had a well developed storyline and characters but definitely need to start at the beginning to enhance the experience of the series.

I’m not usually a fan of books that show the horrible childhood of the murderer, but this one was so well-written that I didn’t object.

The lead investigator, Archer, and her grandfather, were really engaging, and I wanted to hear more about their backstory.

All in all, great listen - highly recommended.

The Perfect Thriller
🎧 Audiobook

Although I have discovered that this is the third book in a series, it certainly was a perfect thriller as a standalone.

Loved the clever plot and the twists and turns and suspense throughout.

The author has created some wonderful characters who I adored from the get go, especially DI Grace Archer and DS Harry Archer and some creepy and menacing villains.

The narration was drama filled with some well crafted characters with identifiable accents and smoothly delivered.

A gang related thriller interwoven with brutal murders and some dark psychological elements kept me absolutely hooked.

David Fennell is clever and masterly and creates crime thriĺlers to devour.

Can't wait to read the first 2 books in the series and the next instalment.

Highly recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley, the Author and Narrator for this Audiobook ARC.

This is the the third instalment of the DS Grace Archer & DS Harry Quinn series. Have I read the first two? - No! Do you need to? - No! Will I be going back to read the others? - Hell yes!

I absolutely loved this book, packed full of all the dark twists, turns, murder and intrigue that I love with the addition of an emotional pull I was not expecting. In short - highly recommended. Oh and the audio was brilliantly delivered.

What a thriller! I am going back now and read the previous two books in the series, as sadly I hadn't yet.
Thanks to NetGalley, the editor and the author for the opportunity to access this advanced copy.

Listened to Audiobook.
This is the third book in the DI Grace Archer and DS Harry Quinn series.
Having not read the first two in the series I was dubious about listening to this. Although the characters have a back story this could be listened to as a standalone.
The book starts with a horrifying crime to a father his head is wrapped in tape and a face drawn on for his facial features.
The story had me gripped from the start. I hope there are more in the series.

A thoroughly enjoyable thriller from David Fennell. Great narrator with believable characters and plot. Did guess where it was going and I could unfortunately see where it was going to finish….

Whilst The Silent Man can be enjoyed as a standalone thriller, it's worth reading the previous novels first as a good chunk of this book ties up events from previous encounters which can make the make the feel of this mystery somewhat slower than it really is.

This is the 3rd in David Fennell's London crime series featuring DI Grace Archer and DS Harry Quinn, but it is my first taste of a series which I listened to on audio, approximately 9 hours and 15 minutes long, ably narrated by Jess Nesling who maintains the chilling level of drama, menace and tension of the novel right up to the explosive finale. Archer's life is in danger with the freeing from prison of the powerful and ruthless crime gang lord, Frankie White, a man responsible for the killing of her father. He has her firmly in his sights, along with anyone who matters to her, including her family, and friends, no-one is safe, underlined by a calling death card left on a table in her home, with her dementia suffering grandfather locked out in the garden.

The stress and worry over this act results in Archer's grandfather suffering a stroke and in hospital, she is reluctant to move into a safe house, and ends up staying at her close friend, Quinn's home. This impossible scenario limits her ability to be out and about in a horrifying murder case she is assigned to lead. A father, Jason Todd, has been murdered in his home in the dead of night by a silent intruder, who tasered him, covered his face in duct tape, and then drawing a face on it, Todd's sleeping son is left unharmed. Unfortunately, Todd is but the first victim, there are others that follow, with a similar MO. Archer struggles when it comes to finding any leads that might identify the Silent Man, relying heavily on her team. Included in the narrative is a thread featuring a young school boy, bullied at school, and suffering terrifying abuse at home by a volatile, dangerous, gaslighting father.

Fennell skilfully juggles two dark, intense, and bleak storylines, of a lead detective whose life and those close to her is under threat, and a case involving a psychologically disturbed serial killer who is your worst nightmare, slipping into homes undetected at night. When his emotive, harrowing back story is revealed in full at the end, you just might find yourself feeling some level of sympathy for him. I particularly liked the interactions and relationship between Archer and Quinn who obviously care about each other, they make for a memorable partnership. I can recommend both the fast paced book and the audio for readers whose interest is piqued by this roller coaster of a crime read. Many thanks to the publisher for a ALC.

Though this is book 3 in the series the author gives you enough information to let you read this as a stand alone. Well plotted with good characters that will keep you guessing till the end. Now I'll go and get books 1 & 2.. Jess Nesling's narration keeps you listening, a very good narrator. Thanks to Bonnier books UK and Netgalley for a review copy

Did I start yet another series halfway through? Yes I did. This is book three in the DI Grace Archer series, but there was enough backstory to the characters to allow enjoyment as a standalone. Twisty, captivating + cleverly plotted, with a large cast of characters and multiple perspectives + timelines, this was tense + shocking and though I thought I’d figured out the killer, I was wrong + was left reeling!

(3.5 rounded up to 4🌟)

Thank you Netgalley for my copy.

This book was average. There were quite a few characters and none were particularly fleshed out. The story was quite unbelievable but thats fine, it's fiction.

I really like these characters & the fact the story picked up again quickly following the last book was great & allowed the reader to get immediately back into the story.

At times, it felt a little like reading multiple books as the stories unfolded, but there is plenty of drama to keep the pace going & a satisfying conclusion (to the series?). There was humour too, which I felt rounded it all out.

I really liked the narration on this one with strong character recognition through the different accents

This book starts out brilliantly and I was gripped, but it quickly slowed to a dull paced and slightly cringey gangster trope.

I haven't read the previous two books in the series and so this may have made a difference as I did like Grace Archer, the police detective.

The plot is overly complex, with so many characters, it was hard to keep track. Again, this may be because I hadn't read the previous books, but I found parts of it convoluted and hard to follow. The ending was disappointing and fell completely flat.

2.5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, David Fennell and Bonnier for an ARC in return for an honest review.

I thoroughly enjoyed every second of this book, such a great way to wrap up the trilogy, whilst leaving breadcrumbs for more to follow or potential for spin-offs. I can't wait to see what Fennell dives into next.

**Listened to the audio book**

So fed up of reading thrillers that start with a bang, but just fizzle out! This book gripped me at the start, but didn't keep me gripped! I hadn't read any of the previous books in the series, but I don't think this stopped me knowing what was going on.
I just lost interest the more the book went on.

The narrator was good - but the plot and the lack of twists let it down for me.

Audio Version of this book 📕 Book 3 in the DI Archer and DS Quinn series. Wow , a great read , 3 storylines that have you gripped from the first page to the last !!

The narrator was excellent, she did so many different accents for so many characters it was really easy to differentiate between them.

Looking forward to the next book in the series!
