As the book suggests this is about (not quite) enemies Flo and Jamie, her brother's best friend.
Flo is taken aback when she learns that Jamie has been invited on their family holiday especially after a near miss at Christmas when he brutally rejected her by slipping a note under her bedroom door before making an early dart.

Despite the obvious direction of the main plot there are some surprises and the characters are endearing. Well worth a read. Thanks to netgalley and the publishers for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

Flo’s on holiday with her parents, her brothers, her sister-in-law, and her brother’s friend that she hates because her blew her off the previous Christmas. But I didn’t really believe the told missed romantic encounter at Christmas, with the explanation of it rushed, and because of that I found there wasn’t any real tension in the the “enemies” storyline. The title is also far too on the nose. All of that said, Enemies to Lovers definitely gets better (and also spicier) as it progresses so I held on and think this would be a solid holiday read.

I'm a big fan of Laura Jane Williams and was excited to read another book from her.
This is exactly the kind of book I can imagine reading on a sun lounger on holiday, the summery setting just made me wish for sunshine. The Greece setting was so realistic, I felt like I had been there.
I do find when books are deemed as enemies to lovers (and in this case it's even the title of the book) that the characters just aren't enemies. Flo and Jamie had a bit of tension and a mild dislike but not really enemies.
Despite not being proper enemies this was a charming romance and both Flo and Jamie were really well rounded characters. And the way Flo's mental health struggles were tackled was really sensitive and resonated with me in a way I'm sure it will with other readers.
This was a really easy, lighthearted read, perfect for the summer holidays.

This book is very predictable as the title suggests but it’s a good holiday read. It was reasonably cheesy and far fetched in places but I did enjoy it.

Firstly, thank you for allowing me to read this book via NetGalley.

I didn’t hate this book, but to me it read more like I was flickering through someone’s diary rather than reading a story. It was all quite simple, which isn’t a bad thing, but wasn’t something that gripped me I’m afraid.

This was such an enjoyable and delightful Summer read, I absolutely loved it! The enemies to lovers trope was chefs kiss, the build up was slow but very much there and Laura weaved in those little hints perfectly. Whilst I did love Jamie and Flo, Laura did an incredible job of focusing quite heavily on the entire family, allowing you to do adore practically everyone! There was so much fun banter between everyone, I wish I could've been holidaying with them too! I really admired Flo's story regarding her breakdown, whilst I haven't experienced anything to Flo's extent, it really resonated with me on a personal level and was handled with so much respect and care by Laura throughout which reflected in the dialogue surrounding this. This is the perfect summer read and I hope everyone discovers it!

I .hate givinga a books a little stars rating, but what can I say I just didn't feel this one.
I didn't connect to the MCs, to the storyline.
It was cute, but not for me.
3 stars

Absolutely incredible book! Finished within 24 hours of starting. Flo is seen as the delicate one in her family after her burnout and hospitalisation nearly a year ago, while on their annual Greenberg holiday, Jamie (Laurie (Flo’s brother)’s best friend) is included and after a heartbreaking early ending to what could have been at Christmas, Flo is not happy. Determined to keep things normal for her family Flo fakes niceties with Jamie (after all he broke her heart!) but Flo and Jamie are destined to be together and the universe is determined to show them. Lovely lovely romance story set in the idyllic Greece! Perfect summer read!

I'm sorry but why did Jamie at the big age of 30 slip a note under her door breaking up with her. YOU ARE THIRTY NOT TWELVE. What does a Harry Styles grin even mean aswell. I'm sorry but this book was just too messy for my liking. Thank you for letting me read it though!

I read Enemies to Lovers by a pool in Spain in the sunshine and it was the perfect holiday read. I loved Laura's previous books and this was another fabulous offering from her. An easy to read romcom with relatable characters and a brilliant family dynamic to engage with I flew through it in a day.
One I'd recommend.

Enemies to Lovers is a great summer/beach read full of slow burn yearning and sunshine. I really ljked Flo as a main character and the love interest was very sexy! Some low-key spice was very well done, and the misunderstandings were contrived but well thought out.
Highly recommended!

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
This is a quick read about a family holidays in Greece where they invite also their son´s friend which almost had a love adventure with their daughter.
Throughout the book, there are several misunderstandings. The main one stems from years ago when the friend left a note for the sister saying he was leaving because he couldn't be with her. When they get together during the family vacation in Greece, the tension is palpable. The family relationship adds to the novel with funny moments. It is an easy-to-read novel, perfect for reading on a summer vacation or between more intense books, such as psychological crime or horror novels.

My first Laura Jane Williams read and it has swiftly become one of my favourite reads of 2024! It was a bit of a slow burn, but I quickly found myself falling in love with Flo and Jamie, their flaws and all, and of course the rest of the family. Overall, the love and struggles shared between various family members felt very real and was something I could resonate with.

Enemies to Lovers need to hold a place on everyone’s holiday read list!

Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book. I enjoyed this book, I liked finding out a little bit of all the character's persononalities and not just the main characters.

I was very kindly shared an early copy of this book, overall I thoroughly enjoyed the storyline and characters. Would love a sequel and maybe exploring one of the brother’s storylines. It was a little slow but built the suspense and I read the second half of the book in one sitting. I’ve read a few of Laura Jane William’s books and I won’t hesitate to pick up the next title!

When the title is your favourite trope, you know you’re on to a winner. I love Laura Jane Williams’ writing and this has to be my favourite of hers so far. It’s the perfect summer read with wonderful family relationships, likeable and relatable characters and a beautiful romance. I was in a bit of a reading slump before I started this and I couldn’t have found a more charming book to help sort me out.

Although predictable, I could relax into the story, finding myself invested in Flo’s life and her relationships. My only criticism is that it ended too soon - I need more Flo and Jamie!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advanced copy.

I really enjoy Laura Jane Williams’ writing but this just missed the mark.
I think the biggest problem is the title, ‘Enemies to Lovers’, it is a very targeted, key word-esque title that holds no compatibility with the actual story. The main couple were more awkward with each other than enemies, I suppose it is a more realistic version of enemies - not as fun though.

Following the title there was an influx of ‘TikTok language’ usage which confused me. The characters are all majority in their 30s but use words like ‘the ick’ and ‘pick me girl’. It’s giving the same vibe as over 21 year olds having a Snapchat..strange.

A theme of dilution continued throughout the book. Many plot points which could have been an opportunity to go in deeper with and explore the emotion and mental fortitude of were simply glossed over. I was upset with this was when it was revealed that Laurie, the brother/best-friend, was the one who wrote the note (in his 30s?!?). This was because the key problem I had was actually on Flo. Laurie explains he did it to protect Flo and Jamies’ mental health over their respective issues they were dealing with. Now we see a lot of Flo’s battle with her mental health but we continually gloss over Jamies grief of losing both his parents. The man cries, shows a lot of gratitude and love to the family who includes him and follows the word of his best friend even when it’s over the one thing he wants. Yet when we have a chance to go deeper into Jamies struggle we ignore that and focus on Laurie and Flo. Jamie deserved a lot better from Flo.
Flo continually focused on herself. When her dad suggested that she should check in with her mother about her retirement and her feelings surrounding that, Flo did the bare minimum. I don’t believe they even spoke, it was mentioned later with the whole family but again another missed opportunity to delve into something deeper, facing retirement when you don’t feel ready.
The inclusion of the SA was also weird, I don’t think we needed it for the story. I have too many words and not enough words to explain my feelings on this.

I think there was a strange combination of trying to appeal to a younger audience with the wording and glossing over, but also trying to be adult with the spice and mentions of possible deeper conversations that when paired together it wasn’t cohesive.

Now I did really enjoy the Greek setting it was fun and matched the holiday romance theme. The family bonds were really well done and felt realistic too. The building of the romance could have been given more tension, even though I can’t think of what. When I think back there was plenty of scenes where it probably tried to be tension filled but just weren’t. It was a fun story but I just didn’t feel satisfied with it, nothing felt rounded out in the end.
