My kid and I had a lot of fun reading this together! For some reason the barber shop section really gave him the giggles. I loved the lessons here, but my son just love that the word “fart” was in the title, so win/win!

This is a very useful guide to good manners and appropriate behaviors for young children and a laugh riot for this adult reader. The illustrations are clever and in bright, appealing colors and the text is both funny and useful. Whether or not you find yourself in one of the awkward situations described in this book, you will certainly enjoy reading it.

Some books were written specifically for little monster to learn life’s lessons in an entertaining fashion. A silly little read written in rhyme with engaging, high quality illustrations. A fun way to call out bad behaviors indirectly or open up a conversation about manners and safety. A decent read-aloud for youngsters aged 3-6.

My 7 year old enjoyed this book. He said it was gross and that he would never do most of the things but he thought it was silly. The rhyming of the pages was great. Definitely a good book for little boys and girls who think gross things are silly.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Dont’t Fart in the Shower is a fun way to introduce boys to personal hygiene. I laughed so hard as I read this. Too young for Maine Student Book Award, but will still be recommending it to my library patrons.

This was a nice fun read. Although i'm not the target audience I still enjoyed this one. I think it would be prefect as a bed time story for any kids.

Thanks Netgalley for this arc

A fun little piece, this shows a welter of monsters, boogeymen and suchlike, demonstrating things we should not do, like whizz on an electrified fence, eat yellow snow, be too proactive when fetching boogers out our noses… At first the advice is of the scatological kind, but we end with tips that are more logical – actual table manners and awareness of food safety, so you're left unsure whether the rhyming text is designed to gross us out or to actually be acted upon. The rhymes are strong, generally, although the line length and meter is off more than once; the visuals are inventive and lively, with great colours to show off the individual monstrous characters. I'm a little hesitant to give this four stars, as it does seem slight and disposable, but I can see a huge potential for this to have been a hell of a lot worse.

As the mom of 3 boys, this is a book they will LOVE. So many laughs.
Some of the rhyming felt a little forced, but overall cute that the boys will want to read again and again.

I picked up Don’t Fart in the Shower because I know a student who I think would just absolutely love the theme of the title. I’m not sure what I was genuinely expecting, but the book did pleasantly surprise me with the advice it was providing.

Ultimately, it seems that the book’s goal is to send messages to children regarding how to keep themselves safe and polite in public in an upbeat and fun way. The differing scenarios and the absolute silliness of everything is sure to keep any kid engaged and laughing all throughout! The artwork is also bright and entertaining.

I’m pretty impressed overall and pleased with the messages in the book. I think it’d be a great read for any kid who finds this type of humor absolutely hilarious and wants (or perhaps needs?) to learn how to be more kind and polite to those around them.

I do have one criticism, however. I know the author is trying to make everything rhyme and all, but I don’t think there’s any excuse for the line about a mother who might “tan your hide” if you go play in the mud. Not only is that not a phrase I would want a child to know and think about, but we’re far past the days, in my opinion, where it is acceptable in any form or situation to discipline your children by spanking them. It’s cruel and unreasonable and while I know some might disagree with me, I have zero respect for parents who raise their children like that.

As a result, I have a huge problem with the inclusion of it in this book. I don’t care that the characters are monsters—the implication is that it’s okay for a mother to do spank her child and that the children shouldn’t misbehave for fear of such “consequences.” It’s not funny and it’s not okay.

When perusing the shelves near this upcoming book- don’t pass this one over- you must take a look!
With tips on good hygiene, manners, and more; there’s something to make every monster roar.
The art is impressive. There’s rhymes and there’s puns. Don’t Fart in the Shower is chock full of fun!
I hope you’ve enjoyed these few silly bars. I’m rating this book a monstrous FIVE STARS!

Three Things You Should Know:
1. I made myself laugh writing the above.
2. Yes, I know I’m nutty.
3. I’ll be buying a physical copy ASAP.

I received a copy of Don’t Fart in the Shower by Eric Strong via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I just read this with kiddo, and it is adorable. Every page is a quick, 2 sentence tip for young monsters done in a bit of rhyme, with beautiful illustrations. It's very comfortable to read aloud and earned lots of giggles.

Fabulously detailed and clever illustrations, I absolutely loved the range of monsters in the pictures and every time you look you see more detail. The captions are also amusing, covering a variety of social ‘crimes’ that many young children might be occasionally guilty of (believe me, I teach four and five year olds) so it could be a good, lighthearted, teaching tool too. They’re also catchy and have good rhythm so it’s a real pleasure to read out loud. This would definitely entertain and delight all young children, where toilet style humour is king and they love to be outraged at the behaviour of their peers and be judgy, when let’s be honest they’re equally guilty.
Very enjoyable for the young and the very daft young at heart (aka me) Thank you for making me smile.

This book put a funny twist on "advice" and manners. My son and I laughed at some of the pictures and advice. I loved how colorful and detailed the illustrations were.

I'm going to start with the good things.
1. I adored the drawings. They were fun, colorful, and highly entertaining.
2. I like the idea: a book for kids about manners and being polite, but make it funny.
3. The rhyming was consistent and executed smoothly.

However, there are two other things that made me really dislike this book.
1. This felt sexist. The message definitely had heavy tones of "this is intended for boys because they don't have manners like girls do", even though the cover literally says "Helpful Tips for Young Monsters". Implying that it's meant for any gender.
2. There was a small grammatical error that bothered me. The author said "restrain" (a verb) where "restraint" (a noun) should have been used in order to make the rhyme scheme work.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with this book for free in exchange for my review! All opinions are my own.

This book reminded me of silly classics from when I was a child such as "Everyone Poops" or "Walter The Farting Dog". Kids are obsessed with disgusting bodily fluids so I can see this book being a hit with kids too! However, parents and teachers might get sick of this book :)
