This was a great final book in the 4 part series, the ending was good justice to the storyline and the characters stayed strong throughout. I enjoyed this one and stayed up to read it! Brilliant setting and good writing.

It's 18 years later and Fern and Alice's children are all grown up; but living very different lives.

Both choose to go travelling, but a chance encounter in Paris has the two meeting, they are connected by their mothers' past neither know it yet, until their families are invited and the truth soon comes out.

This was a fast-paced and exciting novel that I could not put down. I felt my heart pumping in so many places as read this novel.

Hurst does a fantastic job at recapping previous events to help jog the reader's memory, however, I would still recommend everyone to read the previous novels as you will not be disappointed.

This is a series I have recommended to so many people and an author I will pick up every time.

I’ve loved this series from the beginning and it was good to get closure with this one! Fast paced and just as entertaining as the three before, I couldn’t put this book down and didn’t see the twists coming that were just ahead! I am sad to say goodbye to these characters, even as crazy as some were!!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Thank you to Netgalley and the brilliant @bookouture for my free copy.

This is the fourth and final book in the Doctor's Wife saga and follows the offspring of Alice and serial killer Fern. A very fast, unputdownable read that had me sitting on the edge of my seat just waiting for the showdown to begin!

I loved this fourth installment and was very satisfied with the conclusion of the series! Fans that like John Marrs will enjoy this one too!

The Doctor's Child is book 4 in The Doctor's Wife series by Daniel Hurst. This is a thrilling series to read and I would recommend that you read the first 3 books to fully enjoy The Doctor's Child. Wow!! This book is fast paced, wickedly surprising, and thrilling to the very end. The Doctor's Child begins with both daughters now 18 years old. Evelyn is the Doctor's daughter with his mistress, Alice. They live back in England where the Doctor lived before his murder. Evelyn knows the truth about what happened to her father and knows that her mother slept with a married man. Evelyn has grown up very angry at her mother, Alice, for not turning in Fern when she had the chance many years ago .Evelyn has a fantasy of finally finding Fern and getting the revenge she's always wanted.

Fern has a new life in a small village near France. She is married to Pierre who happens to be a Doctor! She and Pierre are very happy together and spoil Cecilia, Fern's daughter with her ex-husband's best friend. Fern has changed her name and lied to her daughter and Pierre from the very beginning. They know nothing of Fern's true past life. Fern is using a story that Cecilia's father is a violent man who abused Fern. She tells them that he's dangerous and she had to leave secretly with Cecilia because of that. That's also the reason she gives them that she can never go back to England and neither can Cecilia. The police in England are still looking for Fern and almost everyone there would recognize her from all of the media coverage the case got.

On Evelyn's 18th birthday, she tells Alice that she's going to travel. She wants to backpack and find friends who know nothing of her mother's story. Evelyn goes to hostels and finds that making friends when you're on your own isn't easy. When she's at a hostel in Paris she decides she's going to dress up and go to a club nearby that everyone raves about. She's tired of not doing things because she's on her own. While at the club, Evelyn meets 2 girls her age. She spends the evening drinking, dancing, and eating with them. They all get along great and the other girls are roommates. They invite Evelyn, who is calling herself Tiffany now, to move in with them and they'll split the rent 3 ways. Evelyn can't believe it and thinks they were drunk when they made the offer. The next day she finds out they were serious and she can't wait to move in and have some company for a change. The other 2 girls are Cecilia and her friend from home!

I can tell you that this book keeps you flying as you can't turn the pages fast enough to find out what's going to happen. When Cecilia invites her mother and Pierre for the weekend she tells Evelyn that she should invite her mom, too. Yes, you read that correctly. Trust me when I say you need to get comfortable because you can't put this book down!! I think this is probably the last book in the series, but never say never! Daniel Hurst may have more to write in The Doctor's Wife series. If this is the end, it was a wonderful ride and book 4 is my favorite in the series other than the first book. I rate The Doctor's Child 5 stars with my very highest recommendation. I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of The Doctor's Child in exchange for a fair review. The Doctor's Child is available now and should not be missed! #TheDoctorsChild

The doctor's daughter, Evelyn is now eighteen years old and wants nothing more than to escape from her life, and her mum Alice, in Arberness. She knows all about what happened to her dad, Drew and who is responsible for his death and she resents her mum for her part in it all so she decides to go travelling to Europe and leave her old life behind.
Cecilia is also eighteen, living in France with her mum Teresa and about to embark on the next chapter of her life with her best friend as they move to Paris, where they meet and make friends with Evelyn. Secrets are about to be revealed when they both decide to meet up with their mums, because Teresa isn't who she says she is and the sparks are about to fly...

The Doctor's Child is the fourth and the final chapter in this series and what an explosive series it's been. Set in both England and France, the author takes us back and forth, in this latest book, between the past and present of the lives of these characters and everything that has brought them to this point, but nothing prepares any of them for what happens when their two world's collide. Hurst is a very prolific writer, but every book I've read of his so far is fresh and intriguing and I love how, throughout this series, he recaps on parts of the previous books to refresh the readers memory of what went before, which certainly helps me, I read so many books that I tend to forget quite easily what I've previously read! Once again this one is a fast paced and easy read, with some great twists and a more than satisfactory ending which I really enjoyed and I look forward to seeing what he will bring us next.

I'd like to thank Bookouture and Netgalley for the auto approval, I will post my review on Amazon and Goodreads.

It’s nice to have the closure of this series, after being fully invested in Fern & Alice’s stories.

When their paths cross again by pure chance, they haven’t seen each other for 18 years, now both their girls are 18 and plans to travel, it’s time to let them spread their wings, but is this where it all comes crashing down?

Highly recommend this series, it’s been such a pleasure to read

Review for 'The Doctor's Child' by Daniel Hurst.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Daniel Hurst, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 1st May 2024..

This is the ninth book I have read by this author. It is also the fourth book in 'The Doctor's Wife' series. I have previously 'The Doctor's Wife' (book 1 in this series),'The Doctor's Widow (book 2 in this series), 'The Doctor's Mistress (book 3 in this series), 'My Daughter's Boyfriend', 'Her Husband's Mistake', 'The Couple's Revenge' and 'The Holiday Home'. I would highly recommend them all and each book in this series can be read as a standalone although I would recommend reading them all in order.

This novel consists of a prologue, 38 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so easy to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

AN ABSOLUTELY ADDICTIVE, THRILLING, UNPUTDOWNABLE HEART RACING AND EXPLOSIVE BOOK THAT WILL KEEP YOU UP LATE AT NIGHT UNTIL YOU TURN THE LAST PAGE!!

Wow!!! This book is fantastically written and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end. The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout. The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline.

I absolutely loved this unique page turning explosive page turner and series. It is the absolutely perfect follow on from 'The Doctor's Mistress' and just as addictive!!! I was so glad when I found out about this book and it definitely exceeded my expectations. However I can't say I'm surprised as Daniel is an extremely talented author!! I was absolutely absorbed throughout this psychological thriller. This book is the fourth instalment of Daniel's 'The Doctor's Wife' series and each and every book in this series is better than the last although I have no idea how Daniel manages it as each of them have been absolutely addictive and explosive. This book is set 18 years after the events of 'The Doctor's Mistress' with both Fern and Alice's daughters turning 18 years old. Fern's daughter is called Cecilia and grew up in France with Fern and Fern's husband Pierre with Fern still being on the run from the police. Alice's daughter is called Evelyn and grew up in Aberness with Alice. Cecilia and Evelyn both decide they want to go travelling and manage to end up meeting each other in Paris. Evelyn makes up a false name and neither of them realise who the other's Mothers are. They become friends and start to learn more about each other. What will happen when they discover one of their Mother's murdered the others Father? Has Fern's time on the run finally come to an end? If I told you, well I would have to pull a Fern on you!! Grab your copy of this absolutely explosive must read book today!!! It is filled with tension, suspense, lies, secrets, deceit, romance, love, and omg the twists!!! I DID NOT see the twists coming at all and there were more than one!!! A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS Daniel!! It is getting harder and harder to shock me but by God you did that over and over and over!!! This series is one of the most gripping unputdownable nerve wracking psychological thrillers series' I have EVER read!!! I cannot wait to get hold of your previous and future books!!! I cannot remember the last time I was so hooked by a book but you managed that big time!!! I loved that the book is told from Fern, Alice, Evelyn and Cecilia's perspectives and each of their stories/chapters were perfectly weaved together to show us everything that is going on and how each of them are thinking and feeling throughout. It is also told with multiple timelines so even if you haven't read any of the first books Daniel summarises some of the events as well as new ones if you have read them in the previous timeline chapters. The storyline is filled with crime, shocks, suspense, tension, deceit, and murder. There was so much going on and it was very fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout. This book is absolutely addictive and I read it in one sitting. It kept me on the edge of my seat, biting my nails with my heart absolutely pounding throughout especially at the end! I really am looking forward to the next book by this extremely talented author. A gripping, all consuming addictive addition to an absolutely amazing series!!!

Although this is the fourth book in the series I would have had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture.

Clear your schedule before you start as I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down!! Practically every chapter ended on a cliff hanger so no way could I put it down!! Absolutely hooked!! I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie!!!!

The characters were all strong and realistic and thanks to Daniel's absolutely fantastic writing skills they all come to life when you are turning the pages. I loved meeting Fern and Alice along with meeting several new characters, especially their daughter's Cecilia and Evelyn. I really enjoyed getting to learn how Evelyn and Cecilia's mother's decisions and circumstances made them feel about their lives and towards their mums. When I came to the end of 'The Doctors Wife' I just HAD to know what was going to happen with them Fern and Alice next so I was over the moon when I found out that it was going to be turned into a series and it definitely lived up to my expectations and I have loved discovering more about each of these characters as well as their daughter's in this series!! I have actually shocked myself with how my feelings towards both Alice and Fern changed from when I first met them until the end of this fantastic book! Daniel's creative and evocative writing skills ensured all the characters came to life and along with getting to know more about Fern and Alice I enjoyed getting to meet and learn more about Evelyn and Cecilia. Fern has become the sort of character that I love to hate and part of me wants her to get caught while the other is trying to warn her what is going on to let her get away!!! It is amazing how much emotions Daniel's characters evoke in the reader!!! It is hard to say too much about the characters as I am worried I will give too much away and I really don't want to spoil it for future readers. Regardless of whether you love or hate the characters they all worked perfectly together to make this an addictive and explosive storyline and series!!!

This is exactly why you are one of my favourite male authors Daniel! An absolute must read author!! I cannot wait to read all your previous and future books!! Here's to your next success 🥂

Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the prologue and first two chapters of Daniel's 'The Holiday Home' which I have read myself and would highly recommend!!!

Overall another absolutely heart racing, suspense filled, unputdownable addictive page turner psychological thriller filled with twists in this EPIC series!!

It all started with Fern - the Doctor's Wife. When I listened to that book, I was hooked. I became a Daniel Hurst fan. While I have not yet read all of his titles, I do enjoy his weekly newsletter and am impressed at the many twists and turns we have seen in this series. What it all comes down to is a wife who felt betrayed by the affair her husband was having with a local woman. That local woman was Alice. Through the first three books we have seen these two women ultimately both become mothers. Both of those daughters have grown up and now we will see if Fern can keep her past at bay. Because Evelyn, the Doctor's Child, and Cecilia, Fern's child are adults now and they have minds of their own.

A big thank you to Daniel Hurst, Bookouture and NetGalley for a DRC in exchange for an honest review. Happy Publication Day!

Every time there is a new book in this series, I think did there need to be another. Then LOL I pick it up and read it and think oh yeah, that was a good one. This round focuses on the doctor’s children, like the title indicates, but don’t worry, we get more of the infamous wife and mistress too. I am usually an advocate of books being able to be a stand alone, and this one certainly can, but it will be most enjoyed in the series. And since the books are short and fast paced, I’d read them in order and catch up first.

Like the rest in the series, the book is fast paced and will keep you on your toes. I saw where this one was heading pretty quickly but with the author, you never know what twist is around the corner. Alice and Fern are still as quirky as ever and how Fern’s mind goes, she is a classic character to both love and hate. The daughters know very little of what happened and of each other so when they meet, there is bound to be some life altering moments.

And never get too attached to any character, because death has abound in this series. And I think this is the last book (but I’ve thought that before) so everyone is fair game. After four books, I am not sure I loved any of the characters, but I loved reading about them nonetheless. It’s a little like a bad reality show that you just have to keep turning in to watch.

If you are a fan of popcorn thrillers, you need to read this series. Trust me, you’ll thank me.

The Doctor's child is book #4 in "The Doctor's Wife" series and once again Daniel Hurst has managed to keep me entertained the whole way through!

Now I was harsher on the first three books in the series, and the 2nd book definitely was my favourite. However, this book was very entertaining! The ending was also VERY interesting for me so I would definitely recommend it.

This is gonna sound really weird, but this is BETTER than the 3rd book for sure. It felt like Hurst found his pacing back again with this one and it genuinely had me on the edge of my seat. I remember while reading the 3rd book I thought "I hope this isn't the last book in the series because that felt a bit disappointing." and I am so happy this book exists because this felt like the perfect way to wrap up the series.

Just like the previous book it's a classic popcorn thriller and is a very quick and easy read.

This book came out on May 1st, 2024, I would definitely recommend getting it!

"The Doctor's Child" delves into the tangled web of family secrets and the desire for retribution. I very much enjoy this series and the direction it has gone - very clever! Kept me on the edge of my seat until the end!

Maybe I would have liked it better if I had read the previous books and got into the characters' story before, but I somehow doubt it.

The first half of the book had a pacing that was way too slow, mostly reminiscing what happened in the previous books. On top of it, it was a bit difficult to follow from the start on who's who, especially since there are two pairs of mother-daughter and the author is switching timeline then and again.

Nevertheless, I asked for this book, so, what did appeal to me? The way the book was described, I thought Evelyn would chase down Fern, collect hints and go for her, which is actually not at all the case. So maybe just a mismatch in my expectations?

Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture to let me have an early copy of this book.

The Doctor's Child by Daniel Hurst is another great psychological thriller from Hurst.
This is the fourth book in The Doctor’s Wife series and once again he hooked me from the very beginning.
I loved this nail biting thriller, raced through the pages to uncover twists and truths.
I enjoyed the storyline and thought the writing was very good.
Fun, entertaining, and with unexpected twists.

Thank You NetGalley and Bookouture for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

Shocking, gripping, fun, dramatic, and twist filled!!!!! Daniel Hurst delivered with The Doctor's Child!!! Woohoo! I could not wait to get my hands and eyes on this book. As with the other books in this series, it turned out to be a fast and fulfilling read for me. What a fantastic and fun series this has been! It all began with The Doctor’s Wife and was full steam ahead from there! Reading this series has been a wild twist filled ride!

Fern, Fern, Fern has been such a fun, diabolical, and twisted character. I do so love reading about her antics and getting into her head. She can and does rationalize everything and anything. After becoming a mother to Cecilia, she has mellowed some and is living happily in France. She never expected to see Alice, the woman who dared have an affair with her late husband, ever again. Alice, the Doctor's mistress, and her daughter, Evelyn live in England. Neither Fern nor Alice was anticipating ever seeing each other again. But when their daughters meet........

I found this book to be an entertaining, fun, and dramatic page turner. As I mentioned I have completely enjoyed this series from the beginning. It’s a little over the top and dramatic but boy what a ride!

Would this work as a stand-alone???? Perhaps, but seriously if you have not read the previous books, do yourself a favor and do so. There was so much that happened, so much background, that you will be glad you did.

Shocking, dramatic, well written, well thought out, and fun!

This is book 4 in the "The Doctor's Wife" series.
I absolutely adored the first book, it was one of my favourites of 2023. I've read every book of this series as it came out and I'm sad its finished.

I think the story got wrapped up very nicely in this final book, It has moved away from the original story a little bit but it still felt cohesive.

As always i loved the dual timeline and multiple POVs, it really makes the story so much better.

I'm actually going to miss these characters a lot, especially Fern. She was always my favourite.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

This is before in The Doctor's Wife book series and it's called The Doctor's Child. I received a copy from Bookouture via Netgalley. Today is also publication day for this book!

Now we follow both daughters as they have grown up and are adults now. One of them lives in France and one lives in England and both can't wait to leave their small villages and see the world.
Alice and her daughter Evelyn still live in England but Evelyn isn't speaking to Alice anymore. She blames her for everything.
Fern, after having fled from England to France, is there to say goodbye to her daughter Cecilia who is moving to Paris.
I won't tell any more about the story as I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

I absolutely enjoyed the stories of Alice and Fern and each time the author surprised me with the next book and with the focus on different characters. The author manages well to describe the characters in such a way that they're likable and that you understand their reasonings. This would be an absolute perfect conclusion to this book series although I would love to read another part of course!

The series is an absolute recommendation and you should definitely start with reading The Doctor's Wife.

5/5 ⭐

I had my doubts at first how the original book could turn into a full blown series...but here we are on the fourth (and final, sobs) 'episode' already.

Advancing on eighteen years from where we finished The Doctor's Mistress, the children are now into adulthood and it's time for their mothers to meet.

I've been on board since the first book and have absolutely loved this series. They're fast paced, highly addictive and full of more twists than I could ever handle on a roller-coaster.

Hurst has firmly cemented his place as one of my go to authors for a shot of suspense and thrill.

I would wholeheartedly recommend both the Doctor's series and the author.

★★★★★ 4.5 stars (rounded up)

The past can't stay hidden forever...the truth will always come out...

He's back! This time with the fourth and final book in The Doctor's Wife series, concluding the tale that has spanned some two decades. When we left off in the previous book "The Doctor's Mistress" , Alice had been hell-bent on seeing Fern behind bars once and for all whilst battling her post natal depression after Evelyn's birth. But that chapter ended somewhat surprisingly when Alice let Fern go after saving her little girl's life on a Cornwall clifftop. And now they are all back...and Evelyn and Cecilia are now on the cusp on adulthood. So how does it all end?

It's been eighteen years since Alice and Fern were last face to face. Now their daughters have grown and life hasn't quite turned out the way they may have expected it to. For Fern, life on the run has been fraught with danger and looking over her shoulder but her life took a surprising turn when she fell in love with Pierre, a doctor no less, and the couple married in a small and private ceremony in the little French village in which they lived. Her life has been quiet and near perfect but she is forever keeping watch to ensure her secrets stay buried and that her husband and daughter never find out the truth.

But now Cecilia is about to turn 18 and is moving to Paris with her best friend Antoinette where the girls will live their best lives. Fern worries her daughter may be tempted to travel further afield and venture back to England and seek out her roots but Fern must do everything to ensure she never does that for fear that the truth will out.

While life has been kind to her arch enemy since their face-off eighteen years before, Alice has not been so lucky. Her daughter Evelyn> has grown up with constant bullying over being the infamous doctor's child as everyone in Aberness knows who they are and their roles in the most famous story to happen in the northern village. Alice never hid the truth from her daughter and now Evelyn is making her mother pay for letting Fern go all those years ago. She cannot understand why she did and has never forgiven her for it. In the meantime, the man at the centre of where it all began - Doctor Drew Devlin - has risen in status to practically sainthood in his daughter's eyes, though she never knew him. And for that she blames Fern and her mother for letting her get away with it.

Now at 18, Evelyn has plans to travel Europe and cut herself off from her mother and hopefully make some friends along the way. Because life has been incredibly lonely in Arbeness with no friends at all, not with everyone knowing exactly who you are. And as the day she leaves arrives, her answers to her mother's questions are monosyllabic at best and her impatience to get away evident.

But Evelyn finds her travels aren't all what she expected to be. She makes no new friends as everyone in the hostels are travelling together and have no need for a third wheel and her desire to seek out new experiences and new friends falls flat. Until she arrives in Paris. There she makes two new friends - Cecilia and Antoinette. And it's only a matter of time before the fireworks begin...

OK so this one was a little more predictable than the previous three and yet it still holds the Hurst factor throughout. It was always going to end some way or another, it was just a matter of when and how. It's like two trains on a collision course. You know what's going to happen and you wait with baited breath to see it play out in slow motion as the two collide, unable to stop it happening. As the reader, we know the full story and we watch as the truth is revealed to the unsuspecting passengers in Cecilia and Evelyn.

It was interesting to see how the two women's lives had played out in the two decades since they last met. Fern was actually likeable now. She'd built a life for herself and Cecilia, which is what Alice told her to do. On the other hand, Alice has had to live with the choice she made in letting Fern go because she saved her little girl that day. But no matter how much she tried explaining it to Evelyn, her daughter refused to understand why. Evelyn looked at what Fern took away from her with rose tinted glasses in that she robbed her of her father, one that was a philandering womaniser who was not a very nice man and who I doubt would have had much interest in a child he'd fathered with his mistress. Evelyn's attitude grated on me throughout and she behaved like a spoilt child in some instances, blaming her mother who had done everything to protect her. Whilst Cecilia, on the other hand, lived a charmed life in France in total oblivion to her own mother's past crimes.

This tale is one of redemption as the story comes full circle with even something of a sad end in the case of one of the characters I had come to love in previous books. I do hope this is the last in the series as I believe the story has gone as far as it could go and really it has come full circle anyway.

THE DOCTOR'S CHILD can be read as a standalone but I do recommend that you read the series in order to appreciate the story in its entirety from the start.

1. The Doctor's Wife
2. The Doctor's Widow
3. The Doctor's Mistress
4. The Doctor's Child

Another stellar read from Daniel Hurst, unfolding through the various narratives and timelines to paint a fuller picture for the reader as only Hurst does.
