Holly and Casey first met while in Berlin as exchange students at university for a short amount of time. Their relationship was also short but unforgettable and nothing has compared since. Years later, Holly’s career has gone downhill and she has a boyfriend who sees her as a housewife. Meanwhile, Casey is engaged to a woman who is perfect on paper but who doesn’t quite live up to Holly. When they were in Berlin, the pair agreed they could later reunite under a tree in a park at 6pm. When they both find themselves in Berlin, what will happen?
It is written well it feels realistic. The characters are not perfect and have to answer to their own actions.

I unfortunately dnf’d this which absolutely kills me. I was so looking forward to this book. I loved the concept! I wanted to cheer for these characters.. I wanted to believe in them… but…. There was no connection there for me. Also, let’s just mention the cheating…. If you look at it as two horrible people getting together then if might not be that bad… Casey the cheater and Holly the willing to be a cheater…

I do realize that thing like this happen all the time.. there are whirlwind romances and people make mistakes but this didn’t do it for me. I like angst but not at the expense of others…

I haven't read a good lesbian romance in such a long time, and I think this is my favorite I've ever read! The character growth and relationship between Holly & Casey!!! Incredible. The very real life things still happening in their lives, and the way that they "moved on" but not really. Ugh. SO good.

The novel’s plot evolves around two characters who meet in Berlin during their early 20s and fall in love only to not see each other for 11 years afterwards. It is a dual narrative from the point of view of both women who get their 2nd chance at love in Berlin after circumstances lead them both to be at the park and under the tree where they promised they would meet again.
I enjoyed reading the book, it reminded me of a “chick flick” movie that I used to watch with my mum on movie nights years ago, just with a bit more spice. It was an easy going read but had stakes that kept me on the edge of my seat as I experienced each event with the characters. The writing is not overly complicated which I liked as it gave me a much-needed break from my usual fantasy reads, it was all about the love in the story, and that’s what I also liked about it.
I fell in love with all the characters I met which shocked me as I can be a bit of a hater, but even Eva, arguably the books antagonist, was likable in her own way. All the characters were incredibly relatable and full of flaws. Often when I read romance books the characters are seen as perfect or flawless which takes me out of the book. I liked that Casey made mistakes and was overwhelmed and unsure of her feelings for Eva and Holly. I liked that despite them all being 30 years old, they don’t have their lives sorted or planned really. Holly loses her job at the beginning and still had no idea what she really wanted to do with her life.
The author includes a variety of diverse characters, and it is flawlessly integrated into the story and used to highlight the issues within society that many encounter. It was done brilliantly.
I don’t normally read contemporary romance novels but this is a book I will happily reread.

This was a gorgeous read with a beautiful and heart-felt storyline. I loved the way Samantha described the scenery as it really made you feel like you were there. Casey and Holly were both beautiful characters that you couldn't help but root for.

Meet Me in Berlin is a very cute second chance sapphic book. I really enjoyed this one. I loved the chemistry between Holly and Casey. They met eleven years ago in Berlin and haven't stopped thinking about each other since. Don't tell me that that is not the cutest premise ever. I couldn't put this book down and absolutely devoured it.
The writing is easy to consume and kept me entertained throughout the whole book.

There is a trope in the book I don't really like which also wasn't executed very well. I won't spoil it for anyone so I won't name the trope but that did make it less enjoyable. It was only a small part of the book so I let it go and enjoyed the rest.

Overall I would recommend Meet Me in Berlin to anyone who enjoys sapphic romances. Its really good.

This novel was a tough one to rate! It was very well written and mostly enjoyable to read. “Mostly” is unfortunately, an important word from that sentence. I can tell the author is a good writer, however I did not like some of the choices made in this novel.

There were lots of parts that I liked about this novel. The overall structure of the plot/relationship was clever and well set up. I loved the idea of their annual meeting spot; two people who otherwise don’t know how to find each other with this one special link to each other. A short and young romance that they were never able to move on from. The entire flow of the novel up until shortly after they met up again was great. I also loved the side characters and their relationships. The best friends and families of the MC’s were very well done and added some of the best elements to the novel.

Unfortunately, there were some big elements that I didn’t like. To be blunt, I didn’t like Casey, and the liking the novel depends on the reader liking (and empathizing/caring about) the MC’s. I can absolutely get behind a novel with unlikable or otherwise shitty MC’s, but only when it works with the story and they are supposed to be unlikable. This novel made the mistake of making the MC a crappy person but wanting the reader to like them regardless. My main issue with Casey was of course the cheating; the big one in the middle of the novel but also the near-miss earlier that warned us what kind of person she was from the start. This wasn’t the way to make me like the character. The cheating was crappy, and the aftermath was also handled terribly. I don’t believe Casey even felt bad about what she did, as much as that she got caught. She directly and intentionally lied on multiple occasions, and there wasn’t any good justification. Casey didn’t do anything to make up for her bad behavior either; she just sulked and waited for Holly to get over it on her own and forgive her. Add how immature Casey acts through the whole novel (the whole relationship with Eva) and how she ignores EVERYONE in her life telling her she is being dumb and acting shitty towards her two love interests and I can’t really muster up much empathy for her.

The big conflict in the novel was obvious from a mile away and annoyingly preventable. I found myself dreading it as I was reading (and not in a good way) and wanted to stop reading; this isn’t a good thing for your novel. There were SO many other directions/conflicts they could have gone with for this novel, and I’m disappointed that they chose this one.

The other love interests (Tom and Eva) were also painted as such bad people/partners/options. This was rather heavy handed and reminded me of a poorly written rom-com. Obviously it was to make the reader root for the MC’s to get together, but I think this was unnecessary. We didn’t need to spend nearly as much time following the MC’s interacting with their crappy partners in the beginning of the novel.

I think this novel was a few changes away from being 5-stars, unfortunately they are big details.

A second chance romance with international flair!

Holly and Casey meet in Berlin while they’re both exchange students from Melbourne and London respectively and have a whirlwind romance that ends when Casey disappears without a word. The story picks back up 11 years later, with Casey living in London, engaged to vapid influencer Eva, and Holly in Melbourne with her boyfriend Tom. Eva obsessed with chronicling her life online grates on Casey, while Holly's relationship with Tom is far from perfect. When they reunite, they immediately strike up a steamy sexual relationship, DESPITE the face that Casey is still engaged to Eva...

I did think that some of Casey's behavior was deeply questionable, but it wasn't an unrealistic or unimaginable - the flawed nature of the characters added to the story line. It's honestly somewhat refreshing to have a book that deals with messiness - what happens when you re-met your soulmate but you're involved with someone else? The connection between Casey and Holly feels genuine, and the back half of the book does a great job of building out their romance. Overall a solid romance, with great spicy scenes.

This country- and continent-spanning love story was a fun and at times emotional read. The chemistry between Casey and Holly is tangible on the page and gives their mutual yearslong obsession credibility. I loved reading them rediscover each other as well as their joy to live. Unfortunately, Valentine tends to want her cake and eat it, too. Tom and Eva, Holly's and Casey's last/current partners respectively, are portrayed as the bad choice to make the actual love interests look better. While Valentine tries to make the ex-partners complex characters, the attempt falls flat. Similarly, she introduces a third-act conflict by having Casey make a monumental mistake - which is okay, if the consequences of that mistake a properly dealt with. Instead, she seems to just mope around for a bit and in the end it is Holly who makes the big romantic gesture.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read, though, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a fated sapphic romance story.

Eleven years after a short passionate romance in Berlin, Casey and Holly find themselves meeting again. I loved these two women, both as separate people and as a couple. The chemistry between them was real. Great supporting characters as well. If you like second chance sapphic reads, this is a winner!

Meet Me in Berlin tells the story of Holly and Casey who met while studying in Berlin. After a short, whirlwind romance, Casey leaves Holly with a broken heart. Unbeknownst to Holly, Casey’s heart was just as broken, however, the intensity of the fledgling relationship sent her running and living to regret it.

Years go by, lives are lived, and new relationships develop for both women. However, each eventually realizes that something is missing and, while each is searching for their something, they both end up back in Berlin and reunite.

The plot is cohesive in that it’s logical and realistic, giving the story the impetus it needs. The setting is pertinent, and it is obvious that our author has invested a lot of effort in research to create a setting that is both cosmopolitan and appreciative of the art world.

Both MCs are credible and natural in a way that ensures the reader becomes invested in their happiness and success. I did, however, feel some frustration with Casey and her inability to stand up to Eva, but that is purely on a personal level. Eliciting such a response is a tribute to how strongly her character was written.

The supporting characters were equally as well developed and lovable, giving intensity to the story and strong support to the framework of the MCs. The character of Jaz is a stand-out, she is so unique and loveable that I’d love to see her star in her own story.

I enjoyed this book. There’s enough angst to keep you hooked, and the romance itself is charming and engaging. Highly recommended

Before getting into the actual review, and a bit of a spoiler, but if you haven’t read other reviews and seen anything about the TWs, there is cheating and lots of discussions around cheating. If you’re not into that, this might be not the book for you. For me, this was one of those “okay it’s TECHNICALLY cheating, but… semantics, kind of” situations. I did message the author and suggest she add it to to TW list (which is listed at the back of the book in the e-version, I’m not sure about print) and said she’d look into adding it for the digital copies since it’s already gone to print, so yay for being proactive!

Okay, actual review time!

11 years ago, Casey and Holly had a two week whirlwind romance in Berlin, with a promise to meet again each year at the same time in the same spot, and let fate take over.

This touched on a ton of topics, and having dealt with many of them myself, I thought they were written so well. Friendship, family, grief, falling in and out of love, priorities, the list goes on. The internal (and external) dialogue and emotions the FMCs both went through felt… in depth? I’m not sure the best way to describe it.

As far as relationships and characters, I hate to say it, but the FMCs weren’t even my favourite pairing. I did love them together, but I loved the other relationships and love between so many other characters more. Casey and Jaz, Chandice, the sister’s parents… I think their love for each other was seriously palpable and SO realistic. I could actually imagine my friends sitting on the couch bantering back and forth while reading the dialogue!

I’ll be honest, even the cheating aspect didn’t *truly* bother me. Was it still shitty? Of course. But I’m reading thinking “mmm okay sure!” Ngl I totally glazed over the history with Lily and Holly so that aspect didn’t bug me - maybe it would on a second read.

Overall, I loved the writing and the dynamics. Those overshadowed any of the more negative features within the book.

Holly and Casey met in Berlin as students, and after a couple of weeks of intense passion, Casey ran away. A decade later Casey is in London and finds herself facing down a wedding with a woman she doesn't really love and Holly sits in Melbourne where she knows it's time to break it off with her safe but uninspiring boyfriend. They both remember setting a date and time and place to meet back in Berlin, and after not talking for a decade, they find each other in that park, under that tree, in Berlin. But Casey still has a fiancé back home and Holly's mom is sick in Australia. Suddenly there is half a world and a number of misunderstandings once again between the women.

This book is really sweet, a well written romance with hilarious characters, a bit of a travel vibe, and some angst. Absolutely going on my recommendation list.

This book was just beautiful. The way the words helped give the most beautiful visuals, with the description of the art pieces, the scenery and provided the best feelings to make you feel like you were actually witnessing two peoples love story. I cried, laughed, and felt the love heartbreak and lost Casey and Holly both went thru. The synopsis of this book captures it perfectly. I am grateful to have read it as an arc with netgalley.

This book was good, but the eleven-year time jump definitely bothered me. It just felt like too long to jump forward in time, and it didn't seem like the characters had grown at all during that time.

**Massive Spoilers Ahead**

Yeah sorry, this one is an absolute no for me, unfortunately... but first, let me start with the stuff I liked. I liked the writing style well enough, the basic premise was good and I was sucked in to see how it was all going to come to a head. However, unfortunately, this is where my enjoyment ends.

The main issue I had with this book was cheating - which is just a huge no for me in general but this book also handled it terribly - and the way the aftermath of the cheating was handled. Casey is an asshole, she was an asshole 11 years ago when she and Holly first met and she's still an asshole now. Yeah, Eva is annoying and self-obsessed but Casey chose to be in a relationship with her and had plenty of time to back out of the engagement before she ever even went back to Berlin. Even Casey's little sister calls her out and says "You just don't want to end it because you enjoy all the money and nice things that Eva's influencer lifestyle affords you" - so it's a bit rich that Casey gets annoyed that Eva posts everything online and is getting their wedding sponsored etc when she enjoys all the benefits from it. But because of the way Eva is represented it kinda seems like we're meant to not care Casey cheats on her, like somehow Eva deserves it.

Not to mention how fucking dirty she does Holly, starting up a relationship with her and sleeping together for a week and never telling her about Eva. Casey's whole family, co-workers and best friend tell her over and over and over what a bad idea this is and that she needs to end things with Eva first and then tell Holly everything but she doesn't want to deal with the fallout so she keeps avoiding it. Holly straight up asks her if she's had a recent relationship and Casey said no, she had AMPLE opportunity to explain the situation to Holly.

THEN when Casey gets caught out she never even seems to be sorry to either Eva or Holly, she's just sorry she got caught and that Holly's pissed. She never shows any real empathy as to how she's hurt them and every time she recounts the story to someone she prefaces it with "I know it looks bad on paper but it wasn't like that" GIRL WHAT? IT WAS EXACTLY LIKE THAT?? Just because YOU checked out of your relationship with Eva and considered it over it doesn't mean it was. Oh my god, she's actually insufferable.

And what might actually be worse is when Holly has a conversation with her best friend about this Holly admits she also would have cheated on Tom if she had met Casey when they were still together, and that she only maybe would have told Casey and Tom about each other AFTER hooking up with Casey. So girl WHY ARE YOU EVEN MAD THEN??

This book tried so hard to make it seem like they weren't bad people but honestly, it would've worked better if they both just admitted they were bad people and they didn't care about the people they hurt. Like at least be honest in your nastiness. These two are honestly made for each other.

Also wtf was with the random coke snorting scene? I'm not against drug use in books but it seemed so weird these 30-year-old adults would just randomly do a drug as hard as cocaine every now and again. It happened one time and was never really addressed ever again (except for Eva asking if she cheated while high, which she almost did).

What would happen if these star crossed lovers ever got a chance to be together again? Casey and Holly’s brief encounter gave them all the feelings in such a short amount of time and left them pining for one another for years. Could a chance to be in the same city again be too much of a good thing? My heart truly felt for both these characters, I could see myself in both at different times in life. A sapphic romance with all the feelings and drama, I love how the author wrote the characters to have life problems that felt very real. I truly enjoyed this read and would read this authors work again

I will be completely honest, I DNF'ed this book two chapters in. The premise was so enticing. I was so looking forward to a lesbian second-chance romance! The title is super cute. However, I could not find any chemistry between the characters. I know the two main characters supposedly have a whirlwind romance, but it didn't feel like that. It felt like they just met and then were seeing each other and then one left. I'd really like it if there was more showing of how intense their feelings were for each other, not just telling the reader they'd never felt something this strong before.

I went into this super blind I actually requested it based off of the cover I know you shouldn’t ever do that but oh wow how this paid off in this instance. This story is a love story about how time can’t pull you apart either and the friendship chefs kiss.

Holly was a character who I just wanted to give the world she deserved it, I swear I would give this woman the world if I could! But that’s a side note, the relationship and this idea that even after Eleven years that spark is still there honestly goosebumps, this was such a fun read and I highly recommend to anyone who is wanting something to get stuck into.

Truly how can you feel so in love with characters who only have one book I cannot wait to see what comes next from Samantha!

Please if you are going to read this however just look at the trigger warnings prior as it deals with a few heavier subjects but if you can read it then I highly recommend!

Now I have a lot to say about this book, and most of it, isn’t positive.

But I would like to say that I am in the minority in this opinion, as I write this all of the reviews are 4 stars or higher. Please keep that in mind.

The overall rating I’d give this is about a 2.5/5 but since I can’t give it that, I’ve rounded it up to 3.

In the beginning we learn about both of them attending the same Uni in Berlin and meeting each other there. For me it really seemed as though they moved FAR too fast. They had only known one another two weeks and had decided they were in love, relationships aren’t built that quickly. Even less so ones that stick with you for eleven years.

To add onto that Holly went onto say how she was willing to leave University and move to England to be with Casey. Why. On. Earth. Would you do that for someone you’ve literally just met?? It’s super unrealistic.

The British slang really got me, I absolutely HATE when people over-use it in books. It makes me genuinely want to claw my eyes out.

Casey and Eva, I hated them together, I get that you’re supposed to want Casey to get together with Holly but my god, I absolutely despised Eva. She annoyed me so unbelievably much.

Getting married after only being together for a year also struck me, I get there’s a running joke ‘lesbians move fast’ but that’s all it is, a joke.

All Eva wanted to do was post to her social media constantly, everything to do with the wedding, the ENTIRE proposal, her entire life was set in front of a camera. Casey and Eva couldn’t work well together, and I honestly don’t understand why they WERE together to begin with.

Casey wouldn’t even tell Holly her last name, yet suddenly she was perfectly fine with Eva putting her entire life all over the internet?

I really believe that neither Casey or Holly were in love, not in the beginning anyways, maybe they were infatuated, but they didn’t love each other. I can’t imagine sex being that good though, to the point you can’t stop thinking about it eleven years forwards.

Jaz, or jazzy, I really disliked her at first, her entire personality was just drugs and sex.

The drug-use in this was a little weird to me. They all acted as though this is just a thing normal thirty year olds do all the time, snort coke and fuck whoever is closest.

Holly moved on from Tom far too quickly, a week after they had ended and she was already off to have sex with Casey? Especially after she had confessed that she DID love him. Definitely not.

On top of that, it was really shitty of Casey to sleep with Holly while she was still with Eva. It was a horrible thing to do, and after the fact everyone in Hollys’ life was telling her to forgive her and get back with her, honestly, I think she was right not to want to. I wouldn’t have either.

When they were in Berlin Casey was SURROUNDED by people who KNEW she and Eva were together, all of her colleagues and work friends were there, and knew, about her and Eva, yet decided to play along and NOT tell Holly?

She was also showing Holly off way too much for someone who was actively cheating. Someone definitely should’ve told her, and the fact they didn’t, makes all of her friends super untrustworthy.

There’s also a lot of repetition, it felt as though it was the same situation happening over and over yet slightly different. Until eventually something else happened and then, you guessed it, that repeats too.

Now, after all of that nagging, the things I actually enjoyed:

From the beginning, about page 1-140 I was extremely bored with this story. I was fed up with it, it felt as though nothing interesting was happening and I didn’t care about any of the characters, but after that I really did start to get into it.

Once Holly and Casey actually met up, the story felt interesting and I was actually enjoying them being together. Before then though, I was not convinced they liked each other in the slightest. It was one big infatuation in my mind.

The family dynamics were probably my favourite part, I loved the way they acted with their families and how they both were different but still filled with love.

I felt genuinely sorry for Holly and her brother when her mum passed away.

The sex scenes, while few, were surprisingly, well written. A lot of sapphic books I’ve read have had sex scenes drier than the Sahara desert. In this book though, were actually quite good.

(I did bother me though that afterwards there was always crying and it was always something stupid like ‘I’m just so happy you’re here’.)

Casey and Holly had genuine chemistry, I believed that they wanted to be together. But this only occurred after page 130. (estimated)

After Holly and Casey had that break up of sorts, Jaz actually became a person, I could actually feel for her and it wasn’t just ‘drugs and sex’ for her anymore. I liked that she stopped Casey from sending too much about herself on the texts to Holly, and she was right in saying how selfish it was of her.

Casey WAS extremely selfish, most of the things she did in this book, was extremely selfish. I’m glad she got called out for this quite a few times, by both her sister and Jaz. It was definitely needed, and well deserved.

Chandice was probably my favourite character in the whole book, she the second she was introduced, had a personality and did her own thing. I was kind confused about her age though, It mentioned her being fifteen or something along those lines but then she was talking about writing a novel? So I really wasn’t sure.

Extra stuff I had to add:

Blake lively is fucking gorgeous.

When Eva said that one Christmas carol line to Holly, I just about lost it, that was so funny to me.

It confused me a bit that the descriptions for the characters came later in the book? And a lot of characters don’t even have one, we don’t know what quite a lot of them look like, so we just have to guess, it’s not great.

Random characters kept getting brought up and I can’t lie, I didn’t know who any of them are or what they did. There was too many to keep count of.

To me this book was nothing more than okay, it definitely isn’t my favourite and I don’t think I would read the full, proper thing when it comes out.
