A fairly slow paced but thoroughly immersive and entertaining historical fiction debut.

A chance to glimpse into the past where divorce was taboo and all but outlawed in sine states. We follow a group of women who travel ti Nevada for an “easy” divorce. Really enjoyed the writing and the narration The novel has Netflix series stamped all over it. And as the characters discussed who’d play them I found myself wondering the very same.

Thank you to NetGalley and Bonnier UK Audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.

I love books set in the 1950s so this was perfect for me. This one is set in Reno, Nevada and is all about more affluent women who had to complete a set period of time to qualify before being able to divorce their husbands which they were able to do under a form of surveillance at The Golden Yarrow Ranch. We meet Lois who is our main character who doesn’t want to be married and be a mother anymore and finds herself in the divorce ranch. Here she meets other women in similar positions and she forges friendships with them. I loved the descriptions of downtown Reno such as ‘the sky is a dry blue’ and ‘wild horse nosing through the dirt and whispers of desert grass’. I think this audiobook, narrated beautifully by Bailey Carr, transports you to Reno and to the 1950s completely and utterly. I also wanted to mention that I thought the cover of the book is stunning. This book is a slow burn but the authors writing is exquisite. My thanks to Bonnier Audio Uk and to Netgalley for my copy of the audiobook.
