The World's Worst Prisons - Karen Farrington

I was very excited to read this book as I have always had a little obsessive interest into prison life and history. I thought the narrator did a really good job of relaying the information in this book. It was very interesting and eye-opening at times. This audio book accompanied me on many of my morning walks and was the perfect companion. Thanks so much Netgalley and Arcturus Digital Audio for this audio book in return for my honest thoughts and opinions

If you have any interest in social history or crime and punishment, I think there’ll be something of interest in this title. It’s absolutely packed with detail, not only about prisons and penal systems, but also some real human interest stories about those incarcerated. Many of the regimes are brutal and there are some harrowing moments. But there are also insights into the nature of criminals and some thought provoking questions that challenge how best to deal with crime. For those of us who haven’t experienced the penal system, some of the content is a real eye opener. It’s certainly a warning to anyone tempted by a quick buck to indulge in illegal actions abroad. Whilst UK prisons may not be perfect, they’re paradise compared to many of those in other countries where feral rules apply. A fascinating account and the narration throughout is outstanding. I really enjoyed listening to it. I don’t know if the printed version has a bibliography or research notes, but I’d certainly find the source references interesting too.

This is a high quality audio. The narrator did well with the factual information. The title in big letter the worlds worst prisons and tgen underneath stiries from sadly for did not teflect the real nature of this. The chapters were in the wrong order and the stories were a very small part . This tried to give too much insight into prison life . It did add human stories but these were not enough to carry off the title. Also the info was on prisons in general there was info on the worlds worst prisons but it convered prisons in feneral. The title was wrong gor me . I think yhus would work wrll as a series.
This would appeal to anyone who would like to kniw more about orison life and some human stories. This is not balanced but a good attempt 3.5 stars. Thanks netgallery and publisher and narrator for this insight a change in title would have improved my experience

This was such an interesting book, my knowledge of prisons is pretty vague so listening to this audio book I was able to learn about prisons across the world but also able to learn about the changes that need to be made to the prison system and this was very eye opening.
