Synopsis:

In "How to Kill a Guy in 10 Ways," Millie Masters launches a hotline, "Message M," after her sister Katie's harrowing rape. As the hotline's founder, Millie offers aid to women in distress, but her mission takes a sinister turn when she becomes obsessed with avenging her sister's assault. Driven by a mix of fury and love, Millie transforms into a vigilante, targeting men who prey on women. With razor-sharp humor and unapologetic vengeance, "How to Kill a Guy in 10 Ways" presents a twisted journey of retribution.

Review:

In "How to Kill a Guy in 10 Ways," readers are treated to a deliciously dark and uproariously funny tale of revenge. Millie Masters, the anti-heroine at the story's center, is a complex and captivating character, driven by a potent mix of rage and loyalty. Despite her morally dubious actions, Millie's wit and charisma make her strangely endearing, and readers can't help but root for her as she takes justice into her own hands.

The novel's pacing is relentless, delivering a rollercoaster ride of suspense and tension from start to finish. The author's clever use of humor adds levity to the darkest moments, creating a narrative that is as entertaining as it is thought-provoking. While the subject matter is undeniably heavy, "How to Kill a Guy in 10 Ways" manages to balance its dark themes with moments of heartbreak and introspection.

At its core, "How to Kill a Guy in 10 Ways" is a story about reclaiming power and seeking justice in a world where the odds are stacked against women. Through Millie's eyes, readers are confronted with uncomfortable truths about misogyny and sexual violence, forcing them to confront the realities of gender-based injustice. While the resolution may not tie up all loose ends neatly, the journey is undeniably impactful, leaving a lasting impression on readers long after they've finished the book.

In conclusion, "How to Kill a Guy in 10 Ways" is a darkly hilarious and thought-provoking thriller that delivers on both entertainment and substance. With its fierce female lead and biting social commentary, it's a story that lingers in the mind and sparks important conversations about justice, revenge, and the power of female resilience.

Thank you to NetGalley, Avon and HarperCollins Audio for the opportunity to listen to the audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

The story - After her sister is assaulted, Millie Masters starts the Message M hotline where she rescues young girls who are in a worrying situation with a man. That is until one situation goes terribly wrong and the events begin to snowball…

My review - Millie is an extremely witty, dark, twisted character who I loved! Told completely from her POV it’s almost a stream of consciousness which allowed you to see all of Millie’s good (or bad!) intentions. Before reading, I’d heard a few negative reviews of this book so I was a was a little weary but I loved it. Yes she made some terrible decisions, which at times had me rolling my eyes but I was so invested in the story. Although, I must admit I didn’t love the ending - there was one character who deserved better.

The audiobook - Elizabeth Hopper did a fantastic job bringing Millie to life. Listening to the audiobook definitely added to my enjoyment. It was read in a clear, sarcastic tone and she had great comedic timing.

Happy Pub Day How To Kill a Guy in Ten Ways!!!

Millie, an accidental serial killer and citizen vigilante seeks revenge! Elisabeth Hopper brought Millie to life on the audiobook with her cheeky Bristolian charm. Despite the cheeky, happy-go-lucky vibe this book gives off it is full of heavy subjects - check the trigger warnings before you pick this up. It's an absolute ride though. If you, like me, are a fan of female vigilantes then Look What You Made Me Do and How To Kill Men should you want similar reads.

Thank you HarperCollins UK Audio, Avon + NetGalley for the chance to listen to this audiobook. How To Kill a Guy in Ten Ways is out now #HowtoKillaGuyinTenWays #NetGalley

I am grateful to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to listen to a DRC of this book for review.
I can completely see how this book could be compared to Bella Mackie's How to Kill Your Family. The protagonist is a similar kind of person with a very troubled background. The writing style is similar too, using the confessional narrative.
The main characters are well developed, and Millie definitely wins the reader's sympathy at first. I enjoyed the humourous exploration of the consequences of a woman taking back power.
The narrator is very good. The individual characters are easily identified. The reading pace was good.
This was a quick and very enjoyable read for me. I would definitely recommend it to fans of How to Kill Your Family, as well as The Good Girl's Guide to Murder series.

Millie Masters is on a mission!
Running her Message M helpline, she rescues young girls and women who feel they're in need of some help - maybe a date feels wrong, or they are feeling threatened.
That is until one rescue attempt goes slightly askew and things start to snowball....

I absolutely loved Millie. Completely morally grey - but her intentions are wholly honourable! ....or are they!?
She's completely bonkers and some of the things she does, well, they will totally shock you! - but at the same time, she's completely lovable and even somewhat relatable too!

The story is told from Millie's Pov and it was brilliant being able to see her actions but also to hear all of the thoughts and feelings behind what she was doing and why.
I obviously don't advocate any of what she did....but it really does make you wonder about the whole process.

This isn't a book for the faint-hearted as there is a lot of murder involved!
It's not particularly gruesome as such, but we do run through each of them in fine detail.

I loved the writing style which although dealing with such serious topics - rape, abuse, manipulation and cheating - the author still manages to keep the overall feeling light and I have to admit to laughing out loud in many places!

I will just say that I found the first few chapters to be a little slow - I think I was expecting to get going right away, after the initial introduction, but there were a few chapters of character building which I'm not sure needed to be there - maybe this could have been better weaved into the storyline as a whole as I didn't gain much from them.
But once it got going, I was then completely hooked and finished this in just 2 sittings!

An absolutely stunning debut novel though and I can't wait to see what comes next from this author!!

💕Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my ARC copy - this is my honest review 💕

Really enjoyed How to Kill a Guy in Ten Ways. The plot was great, had twists that kept you engaged and wanting more.

A really witty and dark offering to female serial killer genre, showcasing femal rage & the worries/fears that women/girls face in society.

Despite adding some comedic elements in the book there are also gut wrenching scenes that gives insight to the FMC psyche and allow you to understand what has pushed her to this edge.

Really liked the ending and Nina is definitely my fave character

Huge thank you for approving me for this ARC.

Plot summary: this books follows our main character Millie who has set up a hotline for women who feel unsafe in situations with men (e.g. harassed in a club, walking home late at night), but after Millie's own sister is assaulted, Millie realises that helping women only goes so far....and that maybe these men need to be punished instead.

My thoughts: I was so invested in this book, although the main character was a 'serial killer', she was so likeable! If you enjoyed 'How to kill your family' by Bella Mackie or 'The Mindf*ck series' by C. M Owens and S. T. Abby, then you will love this!

This is a book about revenge and taking the law into your own hands, and it really did have you questioning your own morals!

I was invested the whole way through and listened to this in one sitting - I just had to know how the story would end!

I loved the rage and selfishness from the main character, and even the development of the side characters was so evident, without the author having to say in such words.

The narration was great, and the different emotions were really evident. I feel like I enjoyed the story even more because I was listening to it, and the main character felt more personable and real!

Loved this, will definitely be recommending!

Firstly, thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for my arc in return for my honest opinion.

When I first spotted the cover and read the blurb, I thought this would be fun and funny with laugh out loud, dark humour moments, despite it being about a female serial killer.

Firstly, the narrator's voice grated on me right from the start. It wasn't the accent but the, in my opinion, the character's superior tone, her comments, the forced humour, the sarcasm, condescension etc. Jokey comments and phrases that I've heard many times before from my own female friends and these became very predictable. It became almost monotone and repetitive and I almost gave up listening and reverting to the book instead. That said, the narrator is only voicing the book text. I stuck with it because, after a point, it got a little more interesting and I wanted to know what happened. Near the end it almost lost my interest again by becoming overly long.

Millie Masters works (reluctantly) in a print shop. Millie's younger sister Katy was raped and suffers PTSD and anorexia as a result of her attack and hates to talk about the little she purports to remember. Millie runs a phone line for any females who find themselves in a scary situation with men, e.g., being locked in a car, their drink being drugged on a night out, being followed home, a guy getting too touchy feely etc, to phone or text (with a few details). Millie then goes out in her own car to rescue/collect them and bring them home safely. Very brave or very foolish?

Millie's opinion of men is very cynical. In fact Millie's opinon of everyone, including her own mother, is very cynical. The only 2 people she seems to have a positive opinion of is Katy and her best friend Nina. One new customer to the print shop, James, who Millie starts seeing, turns out to be a police detective.

Whilst Millie continues saving women from danger and gleaning bitty information from her sister regarding her attack, she starts to take things further, exacting vengeance which ultimately becomes an overwhelming obsession.

The plot is plausible but not Millie's lack of planning and the ease with which she rescues victims, tracks people down, disguises herself, gets in and out of homes without being seen etc. I was distracted by the ease and convenience of it all and needed to suspend belief most of the time, particularly from the police investigation side of local male deaths.

I liked certain traits Millie had; her love for her sister and best friend, her disdain, her lack of caring what other people thought of her .... but I disliked her more than I liked her, especially by the end. Even though her background unfolds to explain why she is like she is. I had sympathy for her back story but not for her subsequent justifications and excuses.

It got a bit dark at one point and one description of a situation made me nauseous and feel it unecessary as I don't think it added anything.
I really questioned the ethics of the best friend and did not like the ending. I think, before I read this author or listen to this narrator again, I'd like to preview or sample first.

I'll give it 3 out of 5, mostly because I liked the concept of the plot and I did finish it, but not the execution and missed opportunities. For me, it could have been much better (easy for me to say as an obviously non author) but that's my honest opinion. Not really for me I'm afraid. I'm happy to review and discuss it but I can't personally recommend it.

By no means the most original thing plot wise but I really enjoyed this book, I loved the main character and I feel like the narrator did an absolutely excellent job at portraying her and telling her story!

Thank you Netgalley, Eve Kellman and Hapercollins audio for the audio Arc of How to Kill a Guy in Ten Ways.
Narrated by Elisabeth Hopper

This narrative drew me in and gripped me from the start and probably touches on some very sensitive issues. Millie Masters works in a framing store, runs and at night, runs a helpline called Message M. This helpline helps saves countless young women and girls who feel uncomfortable when they are out and need an exit strategy . On date? getting touched ? No problem, Message M.

As the narrative unfolds, it's clear that Millie set up this helpline to help other girls because, she couldn't save her sister. Who experiences a life changing event that leaves her bedridden, Millie tries to get to the bottom of what happened, her sister would rather forget. Millie starts to take matters into her own hands and snowballs.

I loved this book, it had everything In it. Dark humour, issues surrounding women's safety, stalking and friendship. I love the twists and turns in the storyline and I felt that the pacing of the narrative was great. I couldn't stop reading as it kept me engaged and I wanted to know how far Millie would go to seek revenge on her sister, Katie's assailant.. I loved Nina, Millie's friend, who figured things out and stayed by her to the bitter end .This would make a great audiobook in my opinion so I'll be looking out for that in the future,

Elisabeth Hopper has a great voice that suits the pace of this book and will definitely listen to books that's narrated by her.

**Listened to the audiobook**

I initially I really was enjoying this book! It reminded me of the 'Sweet Pea' books - I liked how tough and no nonsense the main protagonist or should I say 'anti-hero' -M is. However, the more the book went on, the more it felt like other books I had read - and I started to loose interest.
The narrator was excellent and was the perfect match for Kellman's writing.

Overall this was an OK read/listen - but it isn't one that will stay with me, as I say, it was just too similar to other books I have read. However, would be interested in what Eve Kellman does next!

A very dark, but hilarious thriller, full of sharp quips. Sounds weird, right? This is ultimately a book where many men are murdered, but Eve Kellman has created a masterpiece in how to get away with it and somewhat justify the actions of the main protagonist, Millie, as she exacts revenge, primarily on behalf of her sister, but ultimately, for any woman who has been abused by a man.

Millie didn't actually plan to kill anyone, but things kind of spiralled out of control and when her vigilante activities stepped up a gear, one murder seemed to lead to another and the humour and sass just make murderous Millie so likeable, it's easy to forget that she's a killer!

I'll be honest, there was a point where I started to get a little bored, but then the action ramped right up again and the run to the end was just brilliant!

I listened to the audiobook, which was really well narrated by Elisabeth Hopper.

5 ⭐️ Thanks to Netgalley, Eve Kellman and Harper Collins for an ARC in return for an honest review.

Millie Masters works in a picture framing shop during the day, but when the sun goes down, she looks out for women who feel too scared to get themselves home and contact her Message M hotline. Millie set this up after her sister was attacked and she felt like she needed to do more to protect other women. She also thought it would be a great opportunity to try and find the mam who has reduced her sister to a shell of herself.

This book covers several serious topics - rape, sexual assault, drugging of women - but manages to still be darkly funny in places. Recommended for any fans of How To Kill Men And Get Away With It and other similar books.

This was a great read, full of murder and protecting woman.

Millie is mad at men, her sister was raped and she sets up a call line to assist woman who are in trouble with men harassing them. It’s been working well, until she does her first murder. She can’t stop now. She’s a great character and perfect for the role. It’s engrossing, dark twisty read.

I listened to the audio book and can’t fault the narrator, she read the story very well and kept me engaged in the story. She was clear and prompted each chapter clearly.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for a copy.

If you loved reading Katy Brent’s How to Kill Men and Get Away with It by Katy Brent and The Best Way To Bury Your Husband by Alexia Casale - this book, How to Kill a Guy in Ten Ways by Eve Kellerman, this will be right up your street!

By day Millie Masters works in a picture framing shop, and by night runs the Message M hotline to help women who are out at night but feel too scared to walk home due to the behaviour of men.

Millie has her own personal reasons for running the hotline……

However, things take a turn and Millie steps up the scope of the Message M service and she turns full vigilante!

The book deals with serious issues: women’s safety, date rape, sexual assault, mental health. Despite this, there are some truly dark comedic fun moments. One thing is for sure, you would really want Millie in your corner!

It was a great audiobook and I just wanted to keep listening to it. The written style is really accessible and it’s really fast paced with humour sprinkled through out. The narrator, Elisabeth Hopper, really brings the book to life and has a great range of voices for the different characters.

Huge thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, HarperCollins UK Audio, for making the e-audio-ARC available to me in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I really enjoyed the narrator and the storyline kept me invested. I want a Nina in my life!

Wow, what an audiobook. I really enjoyed listening to this book in which we meet Millie. By day Millie frames pictures, by evening she uses her Dial M service to rescue women who finds themselves in dangers situations with men. All it takes is one rescue situation gone wrong, to make Millie realise that she could go even further to protect women in danger from devious men.

I loved how complicated and nuanced Millie was as a character. It made for a more enjoyable listening experience, as I could never quite decide if I liked her or not or if I was rooting for her or not in her bloody mission. However I felt in the moment though, I was thoroughly entertained by her no hold barred dark humour.

The narrator is spectacular, really bringing Millie and her environment to life, with an engaging tone and a range of voices.

Seriously, the audiobook was so good that even a long commute, housework and the super tedious job of sorting out raffle tickets whizzed by.

If you like thrillers, dark humour and female killers, then congratulations, you have just found your next audiobook.

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the chance to review an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest review .

Really enjoyed this.
Dark and witty, you can’t help but root for Millie.

The narrator was great and will definitely be on the look out for more, from both them and this author.

This was an excellent listen , I found it to be dark yet witty in parts. The plot is a bit mad and put there but I found myself wanting to know what happened next at the same time. This reminded me of Katy Brent books in some ways but overall a really enjoyable listen and some hard hitting topics thrown in too which would make it a good book club pick I think. Thank you to the publisher and to netgalley for this audio arc.
