Conquer has been one of my biggest anticipated reads for 2024! I had the amazing honor of beta reading this book and then getting to read it again with its final polishes! The book starts off with a lot of reverse dramatic irony (where the characters know more than the audience). It's done well to keep the reader engaged and invested. Sometimes it does feel like a couple things are moving a little too slow/fast at the beginning, but the ending makes up for it! Trust the process!

Something that I absolute adore in this book is how real the characters feel. Their flaws are human, even though the characters aren't completely human 😜. I am a big lover of superpower books and when I tell y'all, this book HAS IT. Another super bomb diggity about this book is the found family aspect of this. The main character, X, is your classic lone wolf. She recruits a group of friends to help her find her mother (but also find pieces of herself). The novel jumps between perspectives and past/present, so you can learn how the friends met each other and how they became such a tight knit family. The ending definitely will leave you wanting more, so miss Tiana M, I shall be waiting patiently for book two!

Overall, I give this 4.5/5⭐

I enjoyed this opening to the Conquer series, I was engaged with the story and how the characters felt with the world. It was a unique premise that I enjoyed and was glad I got to get to know all the characters. Tiana M has a great writing style and I enjoyed going through this book.
