Single mum Taylor is struggling to make ends meet, looking after her bullied son and running her own sewing business. She finds the board game café and meets Harry, will things start to improve? Another feel good instalment in the series displaying a caring community .
Taylor Sweet dreams of being a fashion designer, but her reality is fixing zips and doing alterations to make ends meet as a single mum to Max. When she meets quiet loner Harry, their lives change dramatically. Can they both handle the changes, and finally find happiness?
An enjoyable story, I loved the upcoming element and the sense of community. This is the third book in the series, and although it works perfectly as a standalone, I would suggest reading the others as it was good to revisit characters and locations. A lovely gentle summer read.
Firstly thank you to netgalley, the publisher and Jennifer Page for allowing me an e-ARC of this novel in exchange for an honest review.
This isn’t the typical contemporary romance I go for but I have to say- I really enjoyed it! The characters were quirky but loveable, the storyline was easy to follow!
I liked how the villain wasn’t someone in Taylor’s inner circle of support!
I also felt the story was realistic which makes it relatable!
Harry wasn’t this swoon worthy heart throb but rather a train obsessed, shy man, which allowed him and Taylor to take their relationship slowly
This is the third book of the Little Board Game cafe series and the story follows a woman named Taylor Sweet who dreams of becoming a fashion designer but currently does nothing but fixing zippers and worrying about her son Max.
I go an invitation to review this book and here are my thoughts.
I actually liked this one more than the first two book of the series. Taylor Sweet is a struggling single mom, who is struggling to meet the ends meet and I like how the author had made the character more realistic as possible. Then we also meet another character Harry who is a quiet person and who seemed to have had bad experiences with women. By chance Taylor accidentally cuts Henry's jeans by six inches, leading her to upcycle the jeans and her sewing method had become so famous in the small town that orders of upcycling starts flooding towards Taylor, even though she is living in a cramped apartment. Henry meanwhile secretly falls in love with Taylor even though he was a little afraid of showing off his feelings. The story itself is beautifully written and although I am not much of a romance fan, this book was actually good. I enjoyed this book, I thought I really liked the chemistry between Harry and Taylor. I am wondering if there is going to be another book in the series and cannot wait to read the next one. Overall this book worth 4.5 stars.
Many thanks to Netgalley and Aria for the ARC. The review is based on my honest opinion only.
OMG I am totally in love with this book, if I could give it more that 5 stars, I would.
This story was enjoyable from start to finish, was so well written and thought out, not to mention the characters just coming to life as I got to know them all. Plus it was lovely to be reacquainted with some of the previous characters from books one and two, the lovely Emily, Kate and Jo.
One of the things I absolutely loved about this story, was the theme, I am an avid fan of modern board games. My spare time is literally devoted to reading books or playing modern board games. I loved seeing the mention of all the different board games throughout this story and ai even learnt of a couple of new ones that I did not know about. When I read about there being a fan made version of Alice in Wonderland for Ticket to Ride, I was like ‘hey that’s a super cool thing to make up and put in a story, but then I was like, hang on what if it’s actually true’ . So I went straight online and was beyond excited when I discovered that yes there really is a fan made version of Alice in Wonderland for Ticket to Ride, so I’ll definitely be getting that up and running myself. So thanks for that Jennifer.
Anyway back to the story, I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know Taylor, Max and Harry, seeing how they all interacted together and the chemistry between Taylor/Harry growing as the story progressed.
I also loved the overall feel of the communities, how everyone comes together to help each other out. I would love to live in a community like that and become friends with Taylor, Harry, Emily, Kate, Jo, Ludek and all of the others.
I’m very much looking forward to the next book to the series, at least I hope there will be another one. I love reading books that feature board games.
Taylor is a single mum to Max. She is struggling to earn a living doing alterations but dreams of being a fashion designer. Her son has certain needs and is unhappy at school.
harry wants to be loved and have a family. He is recovering from a disastrous relationship.
However, when he meets Taylor things do not go as planned.
Can they both find the answers to their dreams?
Read in one afternoon, this is a warm hug of a book.
A lovely gentle read and a brilliant follow up to Love Letters on Hazel Lane and The Little Board Game Cafe. A new story that works perfectly well as a standalone but is enhanced by the opportunity to catch up with some of the characters we first met there. I've no interest in either board games or sewing but that didn't stop me from enjoying every single word of this excellent read.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to The Board Game Cafe.
We meet new characters, Taylor and her son Max and Harry, who loves trains.
Taylor is fed up of her current living conditions and is looking for somewhere with more space. She loves sewing, and becomes involved in a project with other residents.
Harry, wants to help her, but, thinking that once she finds out what he loves doing as a hobby, she won’t want to know him.
What he doesn’t know is that Max also loved anything to do with trains.
So will Harry pluck up the courage and help Taylor wherever he can?
I highly recommend this book.
This is my second Board Game Café book and I loved it just as much as the first one.
The main characters this time, Taylor, Harry and Max, are truly likeable, and their story and personalities are endearing.
A lovely, gentle holiday read.
I loved this book just as much as the first one in the series. I've not read the second one but you don't have to as they can be read as standalones.
Max was just the best little character and my heart warmed to him, Taylor and Harry. Max and Harry had such a wonderful connection and it really added something special to the book.
Books like this hold such a special place in my heart, I love a good feel good story and this didn't disappoint.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Well, well, well.... I always love a Jennifer Page book. She can join in harmony my two hobbys, reading and board games, so what's not to love about her new book!
I loved Taylor and Harry, it is a heartwarming and uplifting story.
Please keep writing, because you're amazing
I have really enjoyed this series of books and this one is no exception. (This book could be read as a stand-alone but I recommend you read them all) . Emotive and heartwarming, a lovely summer beach read. Thank you netgalley for the advanced copy
It was so lovely to be back with the characters of the Board Game Cafe and meeting new ones too. Such a wonderful uplifting book which had me hooked from start to finish. A real ‘pick me up’ of a book.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC in return for an honest review. It really was a pleasure.
When single mum Taylor rents a home in the lovely village of Hebbleswick in Yorkshire she is looking forward to a new start for her and her son Max.
Making a living doing clothing alterations and sewing is far from Taylor’s dream of being a fashion designer, but it pays the bills and keeps her occupied.
When Taylor visits the Little Board Game Cafe, she meets Kate, who decides that Taylor needs to maximise her potential and Kate is just the person to help her.
Accountant Harry is a regular at the Board Game Cafe, playing board games with other railway enthusiasts.
When Taylor and Harry meet, there is an attraction, but they both have other worries and priorities and they are not sure this is the right time for a relationship.
Will Taylor and Harry open up to each other and take a chance or will their insecurities about the past spoil the future.
Although this is the third in the Board Game Cafe series, it can be read as a standalone, but I would thoroughly recommend all of them.
I loved this book. Such a warm and uplifting story. It’s book #3 of The Little Board Game Cafe series but can easily be read as a standalone too.
The story follows single mum Taylor, a seamstress and her son Max. Then she meets Harry, a train enthusiast.
It’s full of friendship, love and community. A cosy romance in a small town setting.
It’s beautifully written with likeable characters. I enjoyed getting to know all the new characters and catching up with previous ones from book #1. There’s just an easy flow to the story and it just draws you in. Just brilliant.
I enjoyed the board games and the up cycling themes. So much fun.
Overall, a feel good easy read. Definitely recommend if you enjoy small town romance fiction.
I look forward to reading the next instalment @jenniferpage
With thanks to #NetGallery @ariafiction #Aria&Aries for an arc of #SecondChancesAtTheBoardGameCafe in exchange for a honest review.
Book publishes 6 June 2024.
This is the third book in the series. They don't need to be read first, but it's nice to.
Taylor is a sewist/tailor and an up and coming fashion redesigner.
Her son Max is a sweet, unique 8 year old boy who has set routines and likes and dislikes.
Harry has set routines and loves trains and is the sweetest, gentlest man.
I loved seeing their inner dialogues and getting to know them. Their beliefs about each other, due to their own insecurities, made them likeable and relatable.
Tarquin, the real estate agent. The character I love to hate (he was featured in love letters on Hazel lane) was so icky and smooth talking.
I loved the descriptions of the re designs, and Taylor discovering a brave side, and Max and Harry being so selfless. The character development and growth were fantastic. And some 'scenes' had me laughing out loud!
I can't get enough of this series!
This is a terrific return to the Board Game Cafe that I deeply enjoyed. We have a new set of characters (Taylor and her son Max) who enjoy the Board Game Cafe along with the train enthusiast Harry. As Max is also a true fan of trains will they become a small family? This is a heartfelt emotional story, not afraid to tackle difficult issues.
Another trip to the village of Hebbleswick and it's like returning to old friends. On this visit, we meet single mum Taylor and train enthusiast Harry. Taylor is looking for a fresh start in a new house and a new upcycling community project, Harry is keen to help Taylor where we can but is worried that if she learns about his hobbies she wouldn't be interested in him. Little does he know, they share the same favourite film and Taylor's son, Max, loves trains as much as Harry does.
A story about being true to yourself, love and friendship. A fantastic read for anyone who enjoys a cosy romance
Set in Essendale a little town nestled amongst the hills of the West Yorkshire Pennines and Hebbleswick.
This is the third book that I have read from the author, based in these two towns. Some of the characters from previous books make appearances, but you can also read this book as a stand alone.
The main characters in this book are Taylor Sweet and her son Max, and Harry.
A cosy romance book, that has made me want to learn how to sew and use a sewing machine.
Second chances, new beginnings, and a lovely read.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Publisher for an advanced e-book copy. Opinions about the book are entirely my own.
This story was a real treat to read. It is full of surprises and both difficult and hilarious moments. An emotional tale about not giving up. A thoroughly enjoyable book.
