This book mixes enemies to lovers with a strong female MC and I enjoyed every second! The best part of fantasy books is how strongly written the female MC is and this book does not disappoint. She's strong, knows what she wants and will stand for what she believes in. That courage drives this book throughout. Looking forward to the next book!

Many thanks to Terina Adams and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The unbroken queen was a pleasant surprise! I enjoyed the characters and the romance although the plot left a little to be desired. I rated this 3 stars

I got approved for an ARC this morning and completely blew through this book today. Im obsessed. I love the plot which follows an illegitimate daughter who is a princess but is trained as an assassins (my favorite type of book). We love a FMC who can take care of herself, is stabby and loyal. I also fell inlove hard with Tamas. This man fell so hard and I had butterflies with some of the things that he would say. I do wish that we had him more in Tressya's point of view because he was so much better through her eyes than through his POV. I will say the book does end on a cliffhanger so if that isnt for you, I would wait until the next book is out! I am sitting on the edge of my seat just desperately waiting for the next one :)

*Also, this review is honest and has all of my own opinions*

The storyline is very interesting. It kept me wanting to know what happens next. I hated Radnisa for treating Tressya so mean. I know that they are disciples and that they are devoted to the The Mother but sometimes it feels like The Mother is only using them for eyes and ears to her benefit. I would have liked to have Tressya's half sister be more present. I felt like Edilene should play a more crucial role and be more involved in the story. She was introduced in the beginning and then she went AWOL. Which maybe they'll bring her up in book two? Tamas' POV were sometimes lacking interest. Sometimes, I get confused when he took another form and is totally a different person. Especially when they are directing the person he took form of instead of him himself. Ididn'tt enjoy the whole ghost thing with Tressya. I felt like Tressya was already perfect the way she was and adding on more extra things to her life was a bit too much. I most likely will not read book two. But it doesn't say to say that you shouldn't. I just don't think I'm invested enough!

I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for a review

3.75 stars.

It took me an embarrassingly long time to finish this (school and finals always get in the way) but I'm so glad I did. I actually really enjoyed The Unbroken Queen! I was drawn in by the promise of an assassin, an arranged marriage, political dealings, and enemies to lovers... and I was not disappointed. The main character, Tressya, is an illegitimate daughter trained by the Sistern of Silence as an assassin, and when she's sent overseas to be the bride to the future king of Tarragona, she discovers there's more to her mission than she originally believed. Opposite of Tressya, Tamas is the leader of the Razohan, and as he is maneuvering to claim the throne for himself, he has to decide between with his feelings for Tressya and the need to protect his people.

Honestly, I struggled to get through the beginning of the book because there was so much information to digest, and even now I'm still not sure exactly what everything meant. But the action and plot developments in the last third of The Unbroken Queen made up for that. I enjoyed the politics of the world, and appreciated that Tressya had a tendency to observe and make her moves in the shadows. She's smart and cunning, but still caring--as demonstrated in her friendship with Andriet. It did get a little tiring to read about how plain and unattractive Tressya was, like we got it the first few times lol. But Tamas' obsession with her does make up for that. I devoured the interactions between Tressya and Tamas... they were witty and snarky and so fun to read. And the slow burn was definitely slow burning. They were obsessed with each other, and I loved it. One annotation I made literally said "alex play down bad by taylor swift".... you get the point. It's a shame the next book doesn't come out until August, but I will be reading it the day it comes out.

Thank you to the author and publisher for providing a copy of this book!

This was a little bit of a struggle for me. The first 50% of the book was just information dump and building up to the good parts. And the end was worth it. I’m looking forward to seeing how the story progresses.

Tressya is based on Katherine of Aragon but she seemed more brainwashed by a cult. Miscommunication abounds through out this whole thing.

All the magical elements that lend to good fantasy are there, which brings me a lot of hope for the next story!

Ah! I need the sequel now! What a crazy and heart pounding turn of events in those last few chapters!

I adored this book! The world and magic system are super complex. There is a very in-depth world building history at the beginning that did take quite a bit to wrap my mind around, but it's important! We are essentially learning about two different worlds as they prepare to converge into one.

I cannot tell you the last time I've loved an FMC like I've loved Tressya. She is fierce, she is determined, and despite what she thinks, she is loyal. She was trained to be a killer, trained to think all she was meant to do was carry out orders and as she stays away from her home and meets her new people she starts to veer off the path she thought she was always meant for.

I'm always game for a "he falls first and harder" trope, and we get that with Tamas. Not only that, but we also get that stabby protectiveness that's always the best in an MMC.

The politics of this story was so in depth, I absolutely loved it!

I couldn't have read this book faster if I tried. When I wasn't reading this book, I was thinking about reading this book. I will be waiting for the next installment!

Overall: highly recommend!

In this riveting tale, we follow a princess born outside of wedlock, who secretly trains as an assassin while being betrothed to a neighboring prince. Her journey takes a dramatic turn upon discovering she's been used as a pawn in a larger game by her mentor. As tensions rise and war looms, she must delve into her mysterious powers inherited from her father to protect her new home. The story intertwines political intrigue, hidden truths, and a battle for control, challenging the princess to forsake love and mercy for the greater good. Her struggle against her designated enemy, the charismatic leader of the Razohan, adds a thrilling layer to this complex story of allegiance and survival.

I tried, I really did but I just couldn’t finish this book. I really don’t like going into a book thinking it is single pov, only to be smacked in the face with dual or multiple pov. It’s just not my cup of tea. There is great potential for this trilogy. It’s just not for me

The unbroken queen is a fantasy book worth reading. I enjoyed this book, the characters were easy to understand as well as the plot, but it wasn’t predictable which I loved. There was many plot twists and I believe they all added substance to the book. The only things that lowered my rating are how our main character Tressya asked so many questions in dangerous moments which annoyed me a little bit, and how a horse was hurt was a big no for me. I am very sensitive when it comes to harmed/hurt animals especially in books, I just believe it is unnecessary, but this book was so good I let it slide. I do recommend this book to anyone who is into fantasy or enemies to lovers!

Tressya has never really had a life that she could call her own. She is a princess but is the illegitimate daughter to the House of Tannard. Not only does Tressya have obligations to her family but she has also been trained as a disciple by the Sistern of Silence. The King's son will one day sit on the throne and his legitimate daughter has been promised in marriage to the prince of Tarragona in the hopes of forming a solid alliance. That was until the Mother of the Sistern intervenes, sending Tressya to Tarragona to meet her newly betrothed. Tressya knows that she and her family have been manipulated by the Mother to better an unknown cause supported byt the Sistern of Silence but she vows to serve her country in the role that has been placed before.

Tamas is the leader of a people who have existed for many centuries. Over time, his tribe have been forced further and further from their homeland, moving further north. The time has come for Tamas to lead his people in a battle to reclaim the Bone Throne, located in Tarragona. Tamas is descended from a long line of leaders. One of his ancestors was a human who mated with the Huungardred, a tribe of people who are half human and half beast. This gives Tamas a unique ability; he can shape shift.

The Unbroken Queen contains a large amount of unique mythology and background belonging to each of the main characters. The story is a romantasy with a dual point of view. I would give Tressya's chapters an actual rating of 3.5. Her back ground and storyline were easy to follow and flowed smoothly. Tamas' story was more confusing and slow. The mythos surrounding his people was reminiscent of the vikings but so much more; too much more. It was really too much to remember and stole from the focus of the main storyline. I like Tressya and Tamas together and enjoyed their joint chapters. I just really struggled with the Tamas centric chapters.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 🌶️.5

Mother have mercy on me, I think I've fallen in love with Tamas and need him in my life, forever. I wish he'd bit me instead!

Finishing this book, I feel like I don't know what to do with myself. I feel like I'm left in the same exact emotional state that any Maasverse book has left me. Destroyed.

I was not expecting the emotional rollercoaster that I got from this book, and I loved every single second of it. I couldn't and WOULDN'T
put the book down.

The world building is absolutely beautiful and the detail layered into every page made this story one I will remember for a very long time. Do not sit on this book, it's a MUST READ!

What sealed the deal for me (aside of the brilliantly written spice scene) was the BANTER! Oh my lord, the banter between Tamas and Tressya was solid freaking gold. I can't even begin to tell you how many silly bookmarks I made where the banter just SENT ME!

Slow Burn, enemies to lovers indeed. Executed to perfection. I have the paperback arriving today for my trophy shelf. Tamas is officially co-leader of my book boyfriend tribe.

Someone explain to me why it is INCREDIBLY sexy when a male character runs their hands through their hair when frustrated? 🫠

Can I have book two please? Like right now? Because I need it. I won't survive without it! Only thing I need is MORE spice with Tamas.

Boy has it been a while since I have been drawn so easily into a book that I struggle to put it down. The Unbroken Queen reminded me of why I love to read.

We follow Tressya, a bastard princess, and Tamas, the leader of the northern realms. The Unbroken Queen is duel POV, which was a really nice aspect to seeing how this story unfolds from both of the characters perspectives. Both characters were well written, although my preference was for Tamas’s chapters over Tressya’s. While I liked Tressya as a character, at times it felt like she was constantly just reacting to what was happening to her, and other times she took complete control over everything and everyone. I found that these were almost 2 distinct personalities that she had which I just couldn’t reconcile into one character. It was not obvious that she was playing the fool while she had no control over what was happening, especially since we have her internal monologue in her chapters, which I believe would have added so much more dimension to her character, with her intentionally being crafty and manipulating others to eventually play the long game to get her way.

The overall plot of The Unbroken Queen was surprisingly intricate and well balanced. War is brewing in a neighbouring Kingdom, not that the House of Tannard is aware of the threat to their throne. This underlying plot is the driving force to the events that occur, and individuals decisions as to how they react to the numerous situations that occur. Not only that, various other subplots are occurring that all have various meaningful impact on the main storyline and they were expertly woven into it with it feeling too overwhelming. Some we dont fully get to understand, as neither of the main characters understand fully what they mean. I hope that in the sequel that some of these are addressed in further detail.

One thing I shall mention is that this does include a very steamy sex scene, as well as describing a post sex discussion in another part of the book. Both of these are relevant to the plot, so be warned.

While it miss that je ne sais quoi that would have made this an easy 5 star read, I suspect most people will easily fall in love with this tale.

I don't believe that it is easy to write the perfect fantasy-romance book because, quite frankly there are few people that manage to combine these two elements in a good book. It is very easy to create a romance book set in fantasy setling but that is not a fantasy romance, at least not in my books. This one was not the one for me. I wasn't fond of the characters and the plot was lacking that epic element.

I’m very thankful to NetGalley and Terina for allowing me an advanced copy of The Unbroken Queen in exchange for an honest review

The Unbroken Queen follows Tressya, a bastard born princess who was raised by a secretive Order and is now being sent to a foreign kingdom with one order: Marry the princes, become Queen, and produce an heir
In her journey Tressya overcomes many obstacles, questions everything she’s been taught, and falls for the one person she shouldn’t
We also follow Tamas, a northerner who believes due to prophecies and foreseen futures by witches. Tressya and Tamas are two sides of the same coin; both working towards completely opposite goals but can’t help but being drawn to one another

Overall, I found the pacing of this book to be a bit stilted but I did find the story to be intriguing enough to push through. The world building and magic system were relatively easy to follow which helps make up for some of the pacing issues. As an avid and honestly fats reader, this book took me longer to complete than I thought but I am very glad I continued to read it cuz I ended up enjoying it a lot by the end. I really enjoyed that Tressya while not conventionally beautiful was loved and found to be beautiful due to her characteristics beneath her skin

Here are some other things you have to look forward to reading this book:

👑 Enemies to lovers
👑 Slow burn 🔥
👑 Secret Order
👑 Unique magic system
👑 Shapeshifters
👑 Rival Kingdoms
👑 Prophecies and Fates
👑 Strong FMC
👑 He falls first

The Unbroken Queen is available now as paperback from Amazon and on KU

This book seriously surprised me. At first I felt like it was lagging. It was really hard to keep readin for like the first 6 chapters or so but then it took off. I got a lot of Game of Throne vibes from this book. Mixed with some Tudor vibes as well. I loved the character development from Tressya the way she went from almost meek and shy to string and confident. I also equally love Tamas and how he went from a hardened almost Viking like personality to softening almost immediately to Tressya. Almost like he has always been waiting for her. This book will keep you guessing and wanting more. I give this book a 4.5 stars as I truly ended up loving this book. If the beginning had not been so heavy I think it would have easily been a five star read. However without all the information in the beginning you wouldn’t have understood the rest of it. So please give this book a try! I promise it is worth it.
