Thank you NetGalley and as always Boldwood Books for giving me the opportunity to review this book!

I’m not sure if I would categorise this book as a thriller but it was a good fast paced read. I also got a bit lost at times with everything that was happening. Too many characters involved in this plot. It made it hard to keep track with everyone’s doings .

With this said it was still an enjoyable book that kept me entertained.

Below deck vibes but with a twist!

On board the superyacht Perseus, moored in the glamorous harbour in Antibes, Freya Addison is settling into her new role as hostess.
The other crew members all like Freya, she is calm and diligent and a hard worker, but what they don’t know is that Freya has a secret and an ulterior motive for being on board.

To me, this is one of those middle-of-the-road books which is written well enough but I found the story a little weak and I didn’t really like any of the characters. A lot of the happenings are unbelievable and manufactured. It all feels contrived. Sorry, but it just didn’t work for me.

This is a great tale of revenge, set aboard a fancy yacht on the high seas! A great read, easy to get into, nothing too deep but fun none the less. A great beach read for summer!

Who doesn't love a good revenge story on a yacht? In France, the Perseus sets sail for Ibiza with Captain Greg, chef Sandy, hostess Freya, and the owner, Falcon--a man used to getting his way ALWAYS! Each of these has their own "story" as protagonist Freya is missing her sister, Polly who became addicted to cocaine in her dealings with Falcon. Greg has his own reasons that aren't revealed until later in the novel, but it's clear that all have an axe to grind and will need each other's help to achieve their goals. It's a whip-smart, fast-paced read that may have you begging off a trip on a yacht if some big-wig invites you!

A revenge thriller following the story of Freya Antonia seeking both revenge and justice avoided a super yacht. In Antibes, Freya has joined the crew of the Perseus as a hostess. She’s well liked by the other crew members by it they are unaware she has a secret and an ulterior motive for being aboard. Freya isn’t here to travel the world, she has her sights set on one goal and that is to bring down her employer, Julien Falcon. The man who destroyed her family. A pacy well written thriller with some twists thrown in, I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Boldwood Books and the author for the chance to review.

Thanks to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for this Advanced Reader’s Copy of The Take Down by Evie Hunter due to be published May 8, 2024.
Freya Addison is in her new job as hostess on the superyacht Perseus. Everyone thinks she is a hard worker, but they don’t know why Freya is really there. Freya has taken this job to get revenge on the yacht’s owner, Julian Falcon, who ruined her family’s life. Will she get the revenge she wants, or is he on to her?
The Take Down was like a combination of “Below Deck” meets “CSI”! Julian was a very unlikable character – conniving, despicable, greedy – everything you would expect in a mystery about a rich yacht owner! Revenge is a great motive and a great theme for a thriller. There were lots of twists that sucked me in – it was a fast read with a satisfying conclusion and highly recommended!

Don’t get me wrong, I love to watch the downfall of the rich, but this story was not very compelling. The two main characters’ main reason for being on the yacht was to take down the owner, but they did nothing to get revenge. They just stood there and listened the entire time. It was more of they were at the right place at the right time to watch his downfall. They played no part at all. Everything was given to them and they didn’t solve of any of the mystery. It was just revealed to them over time. Also, the main issue was about Bitcoin and honestly it was weird to read about cryptocurrency.

The takedown - I warmed to the characters in this book and it had some interesting twists. I never lost interest and it was a case of 'just one more chapter' every night. With some good humour and plenty of action added to the mix you certainly couldn't go wrong adding this to your reading list.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.

The Takedown by Evie Hunter was a solid revenge thriller, following Freya, who has a very large axe to grind with the owner of the mega yacht she’s working on, Julian. With a need for revenge and no plan to back it up, we follow Freya as she gets to know Julian and his weak points better with a little help and sets out to destroy him.

This was an easy thriller to read and had some good twists to keep me hooked. I couldn’t fully click with this one, but all the elements needed were there. I think Freya’s need for revenge needed a bit more authenticity for me, but her plotting and finding some allies, as well as the story and the outcome with Julian, were all highly satisfying. If you like thrillers I highly recommend it, but if you’re in the mood for more punitive revenge, set your expectations!
