Devoured this!! I'm not a super hard book critic but I don't hand out 5 star ratings alot. Something about this book really did it for me! I absolutely enjoyed the ride this story took me on :) With this as book being my introduction to the author Shade Owens, she certainly did not disappoint!!

I am an avid thriller girly, so I love a book that leaves me on the edge of my seat! This book took me on an adventure with plot twists and turns that I did not expect! Owens' writing style kept me engaged throughout and I found myself invested in the characters on a deep emotional level. I completely fell in love with the FMC, Bree and the female side character, Erin. The way the characters were written and the way the author was able to weave in their backstories was impeccable!

This book follows Bree, a woman that recently escaped a DV situation with her ex boyfriend when she encounters a new girl at work, Erin, who she suspects is going through a similar issue. The 2 form a friendship and Bree becomes a support for Erin. When Bree starts getting threatening text messages she goes on the hunt to unmask the mysterious sender.

There are elements of domestic violence and child abuse, so please check your trigger warnings!

After enjoying Beneath These Walls by Shade Owens so much, I was excited to read this one, and it delivered just as I was hoping it would. While touching on a very sensitive topic, Owen’s handled it delicately. She did a great job showing us how the mindset of the abused works and their thought process with everything from making basic decisions to more complex decisions. Parts of this book were hard to read due to the descriptive storytelling surrounding DV, but that contributes to the fact that Owens is great at her craft.

I was kept guessing up until the very end. There were well-timed twists that I did not predict. The plot was developed and delivered in a way that ran you through a list of varying emotions. Not only was I captivated in the story, but I was invested in the characters. The fact that our main character and those closest to her were all so POWERFUL by the end of this book was not lost on me. There was a very strong, encouraging message in this book. If DV isn’t a trigger warning for you, I definitely recommend this one,

I received this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The book was a story about women with their backs up against the wall, and decided to turn things around and make the men that hurt them pay. The author provided a lot of extra details, such as the dog, the motel owners, etc, that made the story and the characters more relatable.

Overall, enjoyable story.

I love Shade Owens. Their books absolutely terrify me to a degree I cannot even put into words. I think a big part of that is they are so relatable. In this one we have Bree. She is a normal poor woman who is living in a hotel with a dog she found. She words an everyday job where she answers emails and trains weird new employees. Also her ex committed suicide. She connects with his ex and she's also a normal woman. They talk about their mutual dead ex and it is like "Omg I may have dated the same guy!" Even though this is a fictional story and I didn't, many of us have dated men like this. The liars and abusers.
Also her boss is so relatable.
The whole book is just too real. It is terrifying. It is like the author lived it.
I mean except the ending. That was amazing! That was not relatable.

This story follows Bree who is a survivor of DV, she survives her foster family and he boyfriend. However when a new girl, Erin starts working with Bree, Bree notices that Erin is hiding something when she becomes jumpy when touched and very anxious every time she receives a text message. Bree notices these signs and tries to help Erin out of the relationship before it takes a turn for worse, however Bree starts receiving text messages from an unknown number!

This was my first book that I have read by Shade Owens and I was not disappointed! I was completely gripped until the end, it is fast-paced and easy to follow so brilliant for anyone just getting into books like this.
Thank you to Shade Owens, the Publisher and NetGalley for this arc!

I enjoyed reading Hunting You and found the writing style very engaging. I liked the main character, Bree and found her inability to truly trust anyone around her believable due to her past. Bree came out of the foster care system and several abusive relationships. Her last one ended when Ethan committed suicide. Even though his mother blamed her, Bree was in a motel miles away recovering from her latest beating. At the funeral, Ethan's ex approaches her and gives Bree her number in case she ever wants to talk. Several months go by before Bree decides to hear what the ex has to say. In the meantime, her former BFF whom she cut off due to Ethan telling her that she hit on him texts her wanting to explain. Bree decides to hear what she has to say.

Bree is asked to train a new coworker who is displaying all the signs of being abused and she is driven to help Erin. Erin's boyfriend is a scary guy who threatens Bree when she tries to interfere.

Soon, Bree's landlady at the motel is visited from some detectives from her old hometown. They have questions for Bree as well due to an anonymous tip that she was seen at Ethan's place the night he died. Afterward, she starts getting threatening text messages. Is it Ethan? Is it his ex? Her former BFF? Erin? Erin's boyfriend?

The story was compelling and Bree was a likeable character who had been through hard times. I felt like the ending wrapped up a little too quickly and neatly, but I would read this author again.

Wow, Shade Owens does it again! Beneath These Walls (my first Shade Owens read) was also a 5/5!

Bree's new coworker, Erin, is definitely hiding something. She is super nervous, shy, and cagey. Every time she receives a text message from her boyfriend, she is visibility distraught. When Erin shows up with a badly covered bruised one day, Bree understands what is happening. She has been there herself. She is determined to help Erin and make the girl see that there is an out.

While helping Erin, strange things start happening to Bree - cryptic messages, a car following her, etc. Is Erin's boyfriend on to Bree? If so, she could be in real danger. But Bree is a fighter. She won't back down.

What a crazy novel! It drew me in from the very first page. You will definitely be saying "one more page" and before you know it, it will be midnight! I also loved the main character, Bree. I love a powerful female lead, and boy, did Shade Owens deliver one!

Shade Owens explores the cycle of abuse and how victims are affected. This is obviously a very sensitive and delicate subject, but Shade Owens respectfully and realistically explored the cycle of abuse. The book left a lasting impression on me and I will be thinking about it over the days to come.

This is a must read for any thriller lover. It is captivating from start to finish and full of twists and turns. Cannot wait for the next Shade Owens novel!

This book was absolutely phenomenal, this isn't my typical genre/trope but I really wanted to give this a go and I was not disappointed in the slightest. This was such a compelling read for me and I could not put this book down, I devoured this in one sitting and this ended too soon for my liking.

Book: Hunting You

Review: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️(4/5)
*I got approved for this ARC a few days before it was published.* ⚠️Please be advised this has a content warning.⚠️ It doesn't go into too much detail. I liked that this shined a light on child abuse, especially in the foster system. Also on DV in relationships & ptsd. I know what those two are like.

I think I would list this as a psychological thriller. Beautiful flow in the story. Especially with the occasional "before" chapters. It all connected well. I kept waiting for it to pick up. The story didn't seem to pick up speed until around 40%-50%. The phrase, "eyes rolled up" is used alot. There was alot going on in the story. This book wasn't what I thought it would be based of the description. The ending was tied up a little too nicely & not surprising, at least to me. Overall it was a decent read.

Thank you to NetGalley, Red Raven Publishing, & the author for this ARC.

In this book, Bree is a woman with a traumatic past. Beaten and raped by a brutal stepfather, she once again has become a victim at the hands of her boyfriend.
This time, Bree escapes to start a new life. She meets Erin, a new employee at her workplace, and Bree immediately recognizes the bruises of an abused woman. The two women become friends, and when Bree starts to receive threatening texts, she and Erin go on the run to find out who is stalking them.

This book was interesting, despite the brutal descriptions of physical abuse.
The book ended with several major twists as well.
Thank you Red Raven Books and NetGalley.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Hunting You was a well written suspense novel. I'm not sure I would call it a thriller or a mystery book. There were parts that seemed slow and repetitive, yet I still felt on the edge of my seat. Domestic violence is so difficult to escape and I don't think many people realize this. I think the author did a good job spelling out what goes through someone's mind when they decide to stay in such a relationship. While at times I wanted to reach through the book and shake Erin, I understand it's not that simple. I gave this 3 stars more so because I was expecting a surprise ending. The ending was predictable and did not provide that shock I usually feel from a thriller which is why I say this was more of a suspense book. If I was able to, I would give it 3.5 stars. I did enjoy the author's writing style and character development, therefore, I will pick up another book by Owens.

I was really intrigued by this book, especially to see how helping someone can become much darker than anticipated.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A domestic violence thriller about Bree and Erin, coworkers, and victims of domestic abuse. The story bounces between past and present and definitely has some slow parts but the ending is action packed and worth the build up.

This was an ok read. It took me some time to get into it. Bree and Erin were well written characters, but the novel dragged a bit. The narrative didn't work in places and could have been tightened up. Thanks for the chance to read and review this.

I really enjoyed Hunting You by Shade Owens! This book follows Bree who is a survivor of domestic violence who befriends a new co-worker Erin who is also being abused by her boyfriend. While she’s trying to Erin she starts to receive threatening text messages from an unknown number. This book was definitely a page turner! I could not put it down!! Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this book. Such a great thriller and will keep you guessing throughout the whole story!

This book centers around Bree, a victim of domestic abuse … it’s a heavy topic, and the author goes into great detail about the abuse and the aftermath (possible trigger warning). I loved how the story would go from present to past, when you needed to know why Bree was thinking or feeling a certain way about how her new coworker, Erin, was acting. I’d say the majority of this book was more domestic drama with some suspense. It was very well written but due to its slow burn nature, it did feel drawn out at times, and I just wanted to get to the “meat” of it all. The last 25% of the book was extremely action packed, with some twists being predictable and some you’d never see coming. If you can make it through the the back story, and the build up for a slow-burn, they twisty ending is worth it.

This was a good book. I hate to hear of women being abused, but when they become stronger because of it I want to root them on. This book is about a woman who was abused by her boyfriend and then helps another woman who she suspects is going through the same thing. This kept my attention and was a good read.

After a new girl - named Erin - that’s obviously struggling starts working with Bree, she feels as though she can help her. However, when she does, Bree starts to receive eerie texts and feels as though she's being watched. Even though her stalker might be the most obvious culprit, the biggest shock in the story is who the hunter really is. As Bree’s story unfolded, it was nearly impossible to put this book down!
