After being a massive fan of book, it didn't surprise me that I am obsessed with this one!
The series got even better and not a touch more boring. You will love our morally grey mc and the slow burn in these is to die for. The characters are just as amazing as in book one and the tension in the story doesn't get lost, which is a very important factor for me when it comes to series.

Big thanks to NetGalley for access to this book in exchange for an honest review.

Court of Claws is the second book in the Blood of a Fae series and picks up right where we left off after the first book, with Morgan in a new land and dealing with a new set of problems.

We finally get to see the romance we had been waiting for after such a disappointment in the first book. It is definitely a slow burn but when we finally get there it was written with just enough detail to be spicy without going over the top.

The world building continues to be impressive, the author does a really good job of creating a picture in the reader's mind. Where the first book contained a quest for a powerful item, this one has the trials to be completed for power and that is one of my favorite tropes.

I did enjoy this book however the story was a little slower than the previous book. I also was not a fan of the repetitive miscommunication and back and forth mentality of Morgan. She seemed so much stronger and sure of herself in the first book when she was training to be a knight, and here she plays the endless victim. I'm hoping as the series continues we see more of the force to be reckoned with.

This one was a little more dragged out than the first. I like the characters overall but I got kind of bored

Spice: 🌢️🌢️🌢️

First, I want to thank NetGalley and Starwater Press for giving me the opportunity to read this book. I ATE this book UP!!! It’s as if ACOTAR meets the Hunger Games but with spice 🌢️ I absolutely loved this book and the character development is amazing. The plot thickens. The twists are everything. I can’t wait to continue the story in the 3rd book!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the copy of this ebook. After reading the first book in the series, I was eager to continue reading to find out what happened next in Morgan's story! This book did not disappoint and was a quick and exciting read from start to finish. This book is great for fans of ACOTAR and Fourth Wing!

Thank you for letting me read this book! I absolutely loved it, you’ve done it once again! It is very well written and had me hooked from the start!

In this book, there is more of a focus on the dynamics between characters and the development of those relationships. Especially between Draven and Morgan, of course!

Every now and then I would find Morgan a tad annoying, but I still love how she is so incredibly her own person as much as she can be. And I do really appreciate the development of Draven’s character from book one to book two. I feel like he’s matured quite a lot and just become more three-dimensional.

But in this book we move away from the land that we learned about in the first book, now we’re somewhere else. I do wish that there was some more world building for this new world, we got more relationship building and character insight in this book, but not as much as I would’ve liked for this new location.

This book also has trials! And who doesn’t love a good trial. And boy, oh boy, the plot twists and reveals!

I did find that this book dragged at the beginning a bit. But then once it picks up, it picks up! That sort of pacing felt very similar to the first book, which I just thought as the drag of fantasy world building.

And we end off with a cliff hanger! So, of course, that means I shall be picking up the next book. Because I need answers.

Thanks to NetGalley for a digital copy of this book in exchange for my honest review! My Goodreads review is up and my review on TikTok will be up with my monthly wrap-up at the end of May.

Thank you Netgalley for the "The Blood of Fae set".
Court of Claws seamlessly continues the narrative from where Queen of Roses left off. Draven's timely rescue of Morgan, aided by the enigmatic Oldena, unveils unexpected truths, including Oldena's true nature, which defies initial assumptions.

This installment of the series proves to be a whirlwind of surprises, maintaining an exhilarating pace with shocking revelations unfolding until the very conclusion. Just when the revelation of Draven's fae lineage with distinctive horns seemed to mark the pinnacle of unexpected twists, the narrative continues to deliver one gripping surprise after another, keeping readers on the edge of their seats.

Briar Boleyn masterfully crafts a complex and captivating world, enriched by the evolving dynamic between Morgan and Draven, pulsating with unspoken desires and undeniable chemistry. The intense competition for the imperial throne, reminiscent of the lethal stakes of the Hunger Games, adds a thrilling layer of tension, where survival hangs in the balance with only one emerging victor.

The passion and intricacy of Morgan and Draven's journey, set against this vividly realized backdrop, has left me utterly enthralled and eagerly anticipating the next chapter in their saga. Briar Boleyn's storytelling prowess has solidified her status as an author whose works I will eagerly devour without hesitation. For enthusiasts of fantasy romance intertwined with intricate world-building, this series is an absolute must-read, deserving the highest recommendation. It's an extraordinary adventure that simply cannot be missed.

This was way better than the first one. More world-building, and character development.
I liked that it was fast-paced and full of action. And it kept me interested throughout the whole time. And also, new very interesting characters, I mean talking bearπŸ˜€ Never seen that one.

I liked that we saw some romance finally, which we didn't get in the first book.

Draven is Morally grey and we love it, I know we do.
And his touch her and die vibes... Also, he is so tender with the people he loves.

What an ending!!! I did suspect something similar, but still loved it. And now I have no idea what's going to happen in the next book.

Why I didn't give it a 5-star? Because it didn't have a lot of major plot?! Not that it wasn't interesting, it was. But nothing big happened. Like it was a side quest. We got more inside about Draven. And some hints about Morgan's past. But I wanted something more.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

I enjoyed this book much more than the first one besides that Morgan was insufferable for half of it. I could ignore her because I loved Draven so much that I was reading for him really. I hate the temper tantrum relationship conflict trope at a certain point. The banter in the first half of the book was great but when we circled back to it at the end I was so annoyed!!

I loved the way the world building was laid out in this book. It felt natural and wasn’t completely overwhelming. I also adored the side characters and it gives the inner circle vibes of ACOTAR.

The pacing was pretty good I felt like for most of the book but then it just randomly felt so rushed the last 100ish pages that I was left like πŸ‘€ wait. How did we get here? Wtf just happened?!

I’m still super happy with the series thus far and am looking forward to books 3 & 4. I’m interested to see where we go in book 3 because the ending/cliffhanger has me reeling. It will never be ACOTAR for me but it definitely gives a similar vibe!

Thank you NetGalley, Starwater Press, and Briar Boleyn for providing me an e-copy in exchange for a review!

This story gives me all the feels! I don’t think I have ever loved and hated a character as much as Draven! The roller coaster ride he takes you on in this book is worth all the stress!

The best part to me is Morgan really coming into her own and learning more about her past - also NIGHTCLAW!

This book was non-stop action from the beginning and the story leaves me shocked with every twist and turn. This is definitely not one you will predict what’s going to happen - just when I thought I did, I was proven wrong in the best and worst ways!

If you’re looking for an adventure including some spice, new friendships and survival games, this is it!!!

While I did still have fun during this book, I did find myself less interested. It was a little harder for me to get through but overall still enjoyable.

Thank you NetGalley and StarWater Press for the opportunity to ARC read this book.
Picking up from the cliffhanger in Book One. Morgan finds herself in the underworld of Umbral of Flames with Draven. During her time here she learns more about herself and discovers she has more powers than she originally discovered. Not only can she wield fire, but she is having dreams that seem real and later on we find she has some other powers that come from someone else πŸ™ƒ. While she fights suppressing her powers, Draven is diligently trying to convince Morgan to harness them. Their relationship really develops during this book, and the temperature between them gets STEAMY ❀️‍πŸ”₯πŸ₯΅

The second book gives Hunger Games vibes with the trials for the throne and we see a moment of self sacrifice to save the other (won’t say who so it’s a surprise). The battle scene was well written in my opinion. It gave Sarah J Maas vibes.

Overall I loved this books. I’m really starting to get drawn into the series. The cliffhanger we’re left with in this book is more intense than the last. I just HATE 3rd act breakups.

Tropes:
One Bed
Bonded
Lost Princess
Found Family
3rd Act Breakup 😑

This book started kinda slow but those last hundred pages really had it in them!
I was really scared that this book would be like the last one but it’s pleasantly surprised me.
We finally get character development from Morgan, as well as background information on not just her heritage but a little insight of her mother. And the massive cliffhanger this book ended on leaves a tingling sensation in my hands to reach for the next book in this series.
Morgan and I are in a hate-love relationship. There were so many times I was thinking β€œyes, Morgan! Tell them/ well done!” And in other moments I internally cringed at her behaviour…
I loved how her relationships with other characters developed, and there were almost tears falling at the beginning and the end.
Why is it always the characters I like the most who call it a night?
+I skipped over the spice scenes, so they could’ve been just left out completely.. but that’s just my opinion.

I liked this book so much more than the first and I really enjoyed most of it but the last little bit of the book made me so mad. I’m just annoyed, it feels like the relationship between the main characters takes two steps forward and three steps back, it just stresses me out and not in a good way lol. I still really enjoyed this one, the story line is great, there’s more world building, I like the side characters in this one, the relationship development is great until it’s not lol. Yeah it’s just my opinion anyway and reading is subjective

Book 2 and things have flipped upside down for Morgan and Draven. Thoroughly enjoyed this book - the secrets and lies..Trials to win a crown. Can't wait to continue this series and see what happens next!

Rating - 4.5/5 🌟 rounding up

This was by far my favorite book! I literally read this within 24 hours and stayed up way too late!

I love that we are seeing Morgan step into her badass vibes as she plays double agent against Arthur. I was also really happy that we got Draven's POV! Each page had me flipping cause it was full of what was going to happen next. The author is really good at just killing off characters that you didn't see coming!

Thank you netgalley and publisher for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I will be honest, I went into this book with low expectations. I did not love the first book, and this book was much of the same. The descriptions paint a beautiful picture of the world and the clothing, but I find that there is actually too much of it. The constant description is too much fluff that doesn’t add much to the plot or story. Speaking of the plot…what happened? This second book fell away from the Arthurian legend retelling and is much more of a generic story about fae. It felt like it was trying to be ACOTAR or FBAA, but it fell flat. The characters had very little development, in fact I feel like they regressed from the development in the first book. Morgan was whining constantly and comes across as immature and unrelatable. It’s hard to feel empathy for her character when she does nothing to help better herself. Overall, the pacing and lack of character development kept me from loving this story.
