I absolutely loved this book and I adore the character of Minnie. She is immensely brave and mostly selfless and I’m extremely proud of her growth and reading this character grow as a person taught me a number of things. I wish there was more. I was really surprised by the events that lead to the ending of the book, and even more surprised about how Duke acted. I honestly thought he was perfect but I definitely don’t think that any more. I was pissed off at him for so long. I really wish they had ended up together and that she could have kept her sisters.

This had everything that I was looking for from the Prohibition elements and thought the characters worked in this universe. The plot had everything that I was looking for and enjoyed how everything felt like it was supposed to. Jennifer S. Brown has a great writing style and glad it was so well done. It had the coming of age element that I wanted and was glad it worked.

A great read set in the era of prohibition it tells the story of Minnie and her family arriving to join their father in the United States from Ukraine hoping for a better life . Papa already has a job albeit an unsavoury one collecting protection money this eventually lands him in jail . We see Minnie live through real hardship with one nugget of promise a bar owned by her now incarcerated father which she takes over and turns into her place in the USA …. I loved learning about the prohibition, the Jewish faith and the delightful characters in this booked

This book had me so invested that I read it in one sitting after my baby went to bed! The Whisper Sister was a captivating story of a young immigrant growing up in Prohibition era New York. The writing was attention-grabbing, and I quickly became invested in the characters’ lives.

While some made incredibly frustrating decisions, it was hard not to hope for the best. I genuinely teared up multiple times! Minnie’s strength and determination to overcome many obstacles was fascinating. Though I did guess some of the twists coming at the end, that didn’t ruin any of the reading experience for me.

I highly recommend this!

Boken börjar väldigt spännande med att huvudpersonen Minnie förgiftar någon. Man får inte veta vem. Sedan får man följa Minnie från det att hon landstiger på Ellis Island. Då boken började så spännande tyckte jag först att det var långsamt när man fick följa hennes uppväxt, men efter halva boken kom den riktigt igång och var sedan svår att lägga ifrån sig.

This book drew me in slowly until I was fully immersed in main character, Minnie's, life.

The author vividly portrays New York during the prohibition era of the 1920s.
The characters are well balanced and relateable.

For lovers of historical fiction and those who enjoy well written fiction, you should give this a read.
