I loved this book, it had all the big questions that children ask about families and gave great answers and examples in a fun way. It's a great book to share and would be perfect for home or using in school for pshe. It covered all the ways in which a family can happen. The illustrations made the book pleasurable to look at and will be perfect for young children to read.

Tiki the bird flies all over seeing all sorts whilst Murphy the dog asks lots of questions - much like our Book Clubbers! When Murphy doesn't understand something, Tiki explains it to him.

Between them, they cover the different types of family, what makes a family, the role of a parent and/or carer, blended families and make it clear that a family's closeness is what makes it special to each person in it. There is representation of lots of different types of family including extended families. They explain that even when people squabble, they still love each other and that families are never perfect but do their best for one another.

Some lovely conversation starters at the end.

This was ok but didn't really add anything more to similar ones in this vein. It was written to give simple explanations to KS1 children.
I found the two main characters to be a bit too cute but perhaps children will love them. Thanks to Netgalley.

This is such a well-thought-out book, which is stunning. The book shows all the different types of families that children may experience, from blended families to same-sex relationships to a mum and dad.

If I had to pick one negative and hunt for this, it would be that not all families would be happy. There is a page in the middle which explains what adults do for children; as someone who has worked with abused children, I remember thinking how sad they would find that page. But, then, they probably would never get to see the book anyway.

As I said, this is a minor criticism of such a good book. The characters are cute, and the drawings are bright and cheerful to encourage children to pick the book up—a brilliant read for any family. I enjoyed sharing this book with my little girl as we rarely get to read a book about her type of family.
