This is the second children's book in a series by England footballer Leah Williamson and Jordan Glover . The first was fun, taking the main characters back in time to a period when women's football was being actively suppressed in the UK (this did happen). In the second one, the main characters, plus an annoying boy called William, travel in both time and space to Egypt in the late nineteenth century, where there's some business about a pharaoh's treasure.

The main issue with this as a follow up is that there just wasn't enough football in it, which I feel will be disappointing for young readers who pick this up because it has Leah Williamson's name attached and a football-themed cover. Aside from the beginning (before the adventure) and the end (after the adventure) and a very brief bit in the middle, there's a distinct lack of footballing content - this could be any children's adventure story. While the first book, about a women's football team in the past, felt like something Leah had a particular interest in, this seems a bit more random.

It was a fun enough story although I wasn't overly interested in the pharaoh's fortune or whatever it was, but then I'm not exactly the target audience! The addition of some conflict with the William character was nice, though.

Thanks for the opportunity to read and review an advance copy! More football next time, though, would be good. 😉
