A very informative book on prehistoric living creatures. The illustration is also very nicely done.

To quote my nephew while we read this "bones are the coolest because they used to be living and now they're not but they are fossils now and that is even cooler than bones"

This was really cute and fun! Lots of facts, paired with enjoyable illustrations and rhymes. It does focus on the UK, however, so people in other places can't search for these fossils.

What a gorgeous little.book to introduce young explorers to foasil hunting. I have 2 primary age children and we love fossil hunting on the beach and have found many of the fossils in this book. I think having this book when we started this a few years ago would have been a great introduction for them. It gives enough scientific and geological information about the fossils and also brings them to life through showing the original animals and plants. It explains really well what they would have been like. A really great book and I am going to recommend it to our year 3 teachers who teach about fossils.

Clear explanations, simple pictures, and a fun presentation make this such a great introduction to fossils. The different kinds of fossils are personalized, and readers will feel confident when reading this. I personally loved this kind of thing in college -- anthropology, geology -- and more of these kinds of books will encourage more kids.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this

Jill Michell Smith and Jennifer Watson have created the perfect introduction guide to fossil hunting for young children.

Dividing mini-beasts and their fossils into nine categories is clearly explained and each one is characterised by an individual personality ; Daisy the Dactylioceras , Vera the Ventriculite etc..

With clear descriptions as to where the different fossils can be found and their features this is an easily accessible book

The explorer checklist is a good for young palaeontologists to record their findings
The illustrations are lovely without diminishing the factual information and things to look out for

A great book to take on a fossil hunt or in a classroom for helping categorise fossils
