Cabin Fever is slow to start but once the story gets going it is rather enchanting. Two rivals arrive to sell their products - which are similar and pit them against each other. When the program ends it turns out that one of them needs a ride so they travel towards home together.
A snow storm and accident lead them to a cabin that is snowed in. The women stay and as they do they feel an attraction grow.
Will it survive the forced time alone or was it simply cabin fever?
Another enjoyable read by Shepard. This was well written with engaging characters and great backstories.
Morgan Allen is at her first trade show after leaving the lab to sell a product she believes in, but is struggling to make it while her biggest rival is there and stealing a lot of her sales. She despises Shelby the first moment she meets her and makes a lot of assumptions from there on out.
Shelby Howard is making a big splash in the sales world, but she adapts her persona to each person in order to make the sale. She doesn't necessarily like it, but does it regardless.
When a snowstorm cancels all flights, Morgan was luckily enough to snag the last rental and in the spur of the moment offers Shelby a ride home. What neither expect is to get in a car accident and stranded in a remote cabin for who knows how long and only each other for company.
In the beginning they are like fire and ice, that eventually cools somewhat. The time in the cabin has them talking and dealing with each other whether they like it or not and they learn a lot about the other.
I didn't like all the assumptions Morgan made was my biggest pet peeve. I wish there had been more of their relationship after the cabin, and I wish they had communicated better, but overall I enjoyed it.

This book has disappointed me, it's not the first novel I've read by this author but I didn't remember that she was so sparing in dialogues and so extensive in overdescriptions.
In addition, the two protagonists have been unattractive, the one, Morgan, for her unfounded hostile attitude basically caused by her insecurities and the other, Shelby, for apparent frivolity and lack of scruples, although she has been more coherent after all.
The somewhat absurd situation that the two of them had to suffer has not made much sense either, although it is possible that something similar will happen. Everything has seemed a bit forced and since neither of them, especially Morgan, has put much on their part for a civil coexistence within the extreme circumstances, it has been a bit exasperating to go through the chapters repeatedly reading the same ruminations of the two of them.
The final resolution has not contributed much in the positive either, it has been hasty and simple.
Not much more to add.
Morgan Allen and Shelby Howard meet at a medical trade show where they work for competing companies. Their first impressions of the other are not great and involve some misunderstanding. When their flight home to DC is canceled because of snow Morgan reluctantly invites Shelby to join her in the rental car she was able to get. Unfortunately, due to the weather they end up stranded and breaking into a cabin to wait out the storm. Snowed in a remote place with only one bed is a classic trope and it works well. The time spent together gives them time to learn more about the other. The author even manages to work Covid and the Opioid crisis into their back stories. Morgan to me was much harder to like or the pair.
I enjoyed the tension building in the cabin and wondering when they may give in to their attraction. But the novel is slow burn and leaves you waiting longer than I expected. And while I did like that each character has reflection and makes some personal changes, I’m not sure I totally bought into the HEA ending. I was even a little confused at the epilogue wondering if they were still competitors or working together. Overall, a good story using a classic troupe. I just wanted a few more details on how the HEA looked like for the pair.
There is a lot of lab talk in this book as the 2 MC's are medical equipment sales people. I was going to appreciate the amount of research that had gone into this aspect alone, (not that I had verified any of the information) until I read the author bio. Now I'm just as appreciative and impressed by the ability to use their day job experiences so well.
Overall I liked this story. 2 medical sales people for rival companies who had not got on drove off into a snow storm, crashed and had to stay in a cabin for a week or so until found. I did think it was a funny time of year to be publishing a snow storm book - but I think that is because I associate this kind of stuff with winter and Christmas. I guess it's snowy somewhere in the world right now.
I was somewhat alarmed to read that Chad shouldn't be driving in the weather conditions (snow) at his age - as a man in his 50s! It's not like he was in his I don't know 70s or 80s!
I liked the fact that both of the MC's were openly flawed characters and that they took time to warm up to each other.
I was amused by their opinion of a book read in the cabin - a man who hadn't held a gun before shot the terrorist that 10 seasoned agents had not been able to, gone home with a woman much much hotter and cool than him, the president visited him at home to say thank you. Thankfully the MC's thought this predictable, ridiculous but enjoyed every cheesy second of it.
I also liked the fact that although they had their moments in the cabin, they were just becoming emotionally closer during their time with a hint of the possibility of sex. Bad luck that when they finally got down to it they heard their rescuers and had to abandon it.
The story incorporated COVID and loss along with the medical technology and lab workers.
And as always, the epilogue.
No wedding, no children, just attending the conference again together, with colleagues.

I've enjoyed several books of Shepards and was excited to give this a read. This book follows Morgan and Shelby who are rival sales representatives for medical testing equipment. Morgan, a new sales representative has been struggling with getting her rhythm while her nemesis, Shelby, continued her winning streak. The two meet at a sales conference where they get off on the wrong foot, but Morgan has a moment of weakness and offers to share her rental car when a snowstorm cancelled all flights for the weekend. One wrong turn and a crash leads to them stuck in a cabin waiting out the storm.
I'll admit I struggled a bit with the first half of the book. Neither characters really spoke to me. I did like Shelby but it was clear that both characters had more to them and it took a bit to get them to open up. Given that most of the book is just the two characters in the cabin, their interactions and internal monologues needed to be strong to carry the book. I didn't dislike the characters but I also didn't take to them, especially Morgan. But once the characters warmed to each other, I got pulled into the book more.
All in all, a well written book that I just didn't connect with until the last half of the book. I would recommend for fans of single beds or closed room stories.
Morgan Allen arrives at her first national trade show expecting to make a splash and a ton of sales. She didn’t expect her biggest rival, Shelby Howard, to be there, stealing her thunder and all her clients. Why couldn’t Shelby just stay home and let Morgan have this one? After all, Shelby doesn’t believe in her product, not like Morgan does. She’s just successful because she’s charming and magnetic with a killer smile and legs for days.
Still, Morgan has a heart. When a major snowstorm cancels both their flights home and Morgan snags the last rental car, she offers Shelby a ride. That kindness turns into a nightmare when bad cell reception and a missed exit leaves them stranded in a secluded hunting cabin with a wrecked car and no way to call for help. The longer they’re stuck together, the more their feelings grow. Could Morgan really be falling for the woman who might just cost her everything? And that’s nothing compared to the question that plagues them both once they’re finally rescued. Do they really have feelings for each other, or was it just cabin fever?
I loved the dynamic between these two very believable characters. There were definitely aspects of both character personalities that I didn't care for, but that just made them more realistic to me. I was very impressed that the author made a story that is mostly set in one room work. (As an author myself, that is amazing!) Loved the ending. ❤️
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced digital reader's copy (ARC) in exchange for an honest review!
On the surface this book seemed like it would be right up my alley…rivals to lovers, a fight for survival, slow burn etc. And it did have flashes of brilliance (the gripping consequences of Morgan’s impulsive decision trek back to the car being an especially bright spot), but overall this book fell a little flat for me.
It’s difficult to critique the reasons without giving up spoilers, so for the sake of the book review I will chalk it up to personal preference. While I didn’t like this book as much as others I have read by Tagan Shepard, I still enjoyed it overall and would recommend giving it a try if the blurb on the back peaks your interest. 3.5 stars
Cabin Fever is a slow burn enemies to stranded friends to lovers romance. The story features Morgan Allen and Shelby Lynn Howard as opposing lab instrument saleswomen. They become stranded following a convention and driving from upstate New York to their home state after their flight is cancelled due to bad weather. One of them snags a rental car and invites the other along. However, they aren’t on the road for very long before they become lost in the poor visibility. They stumble upon a hunting cabin that is closed down for the winter after their car hits a snowbank.
Initially I wasn’t a fan of either character, but as the days pass at the cabin and we begin to learn more about Morgan and Shelby, I warmed up to both characters. 4 stars

This slow burn, opposites attract story of two sales women who find themselves stranded together. There are a lot of assumptions to navigate through and Morgan and Shelby both carry a lot of baggage from their pasts to the cabin.. They are very strong willed, which comes in handy when you find yourselves lost in a snowstorm. Overall an enjoyable story.
Morgan and Shelby are competitive salespeople attending a conference when a blizzard hits. Morgan immediately passed judgement on Shelby based on her interactions with crass salesmen. Shelby fits in by people pleasing and being a chameleon to avoid conflict in the work place. This rubs Morgan the wrong way. Magen they all end up stranded at the airport due to the weather, Morgan is the only one with a reserved rental car. She invites Shelby to ride with her, against her better judgement. They begin their journey home, but when Morgan’s anxiety takes hold she misses an exit. She refuses to listen to Shelby and ultimately ends up in a side road where they crash. With no help in sight, Shelby sees a light in the distance and decides to make the trek to get help. Stubbornly, Morgan follows her. They end up in a remote, unoccupied cabin snowed in for days. Their interactions are tense and their differences apparent as they share the space. Even so, they are both aware of the energy between them. Will they be able to overcome their differences and Morgan’s holier than thou attitude enough to explore their connection?
As you may be able to tell, I did not much care for Morgan. I kept hoping she would redeem herself, but she really didn’t for me. I liked Shelby immediately. The author did a good job of revel the characters so we could understand where they were coming from. Shelby’s life experience helped understand her no conflict, stay safe way of interacting with others.
It’s an entertaining one bed, enemies (on Morgan’s part) to lovers read.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bold Strokes Books for the arc.
It was a bit slow at first. Originally wasn't impressed by Shelby, then Morgan was rather judgemental. Initially didn't like either of them too much. However once I got further into the story and learned a bit about their backgrounds their attitudes became more understandable. This is a story of two women who seem quite opposite but who begin to realise their own shortcomings and why they react the way they do. And make each other better people.
I do love a forced proximity enemies to lover book so this was a pleasant surprise! The characters were a bit blah to begin with but they both had some great character grow that kept me interested!
I would recommend this book to my friends and followers for sure!
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!
I had trouble getting into this book at the start, I didn't really like the way the characters immediately jumped to conclusions about one another (Morgan was particularly guilty of this). Even after being stuck together, it still felt like they spent way too much time with those initial negative assumptions. When they finally did start to talk to one another, it only seemed to get worse between them and I had no idea how they would ever make a relationship work. However, once they started opening up to one another (after, in my opinion, way too long) the book improved a lot from there. There was some character growth on both sides and I liked that you could actively see the changes they were making in their lives. I also appreciated that they were able to take a step back and evaluate before rushing into anything. When they finally do get together, it's cute and I enjoyed the outcome. Overall, a good read, it just takes some time to get into. 4/5 stars.
If you’re looking for a simple sapphic romance sprinkled with angst, look no further.
I found Cabin Fever to be an easy read with all of my favourite tropes-
Enemies to lovers
Corporate rivals
There was only one bed
Forced proximity
Angst with a happy ending
Shelby and Morgan work in sales for rival medical instrument manufacturers. The pair get off on the wrong foot upon meeting at a trade show. On route home from the show, unforeseen and unfortunate circumstances see them stranded together in a remote cabin during a snow storm.
When I began reading, I was thrown by the run-on sentences used by the author. Once I became used to it I barely noticed it.
I found it refreshing to read the perspectives of lab techs during the pandemic- it’s something I had never considered before, and deserves as much attention as that of doctors and nurses.
Though we learn that there is more to these characters than meets the eye, I sadly still found that they could have been fleshed out much more. I find that this book is a sweet romance, but I have never before read a book where I have disliked a main character so wholeheartedly. I found Morgan to be dull, irritating and frustrating- had she a little bit more life to her, I’d have eaten this book up.
Overall, I’d recommend Cabin Fever for its use of tropes and representation of strong sapphic females.
Loved this novel. This was unexpectedly deep and satisfying. For some reason I didn’t expect much (the premise is rather straightforward and cliché?) but I was certainly wrong. This novel is fun and heartwarming, but also went into some much deeper, serious, and more grounded themes. The characters were well developed and felt real. The story was surprisingly realistic and had layers that were satisfying. I had a lot of fun reading this novel, which had a lot of satisfying little moments. I’ll be looking for more from this author!
Spoilers below!
Highlights:
-Both MC’s were realistic people with depth and detail. Neither was a caricature or stock character and I enjoyed that immensely. Both characters had their own motivations for what made them tick as well as what was holding them back from a relationship. It was realistic and it worked. I could empathise and connect with both of them.
-The author set the majority of this novel in essentially a single room with only two characters, yet it was never boring or dragged. This is a sign of a good author. A bottle episode (this analogy works…) is either amazing or terrible and the deciding factor is the author; this one was amazing.
-I appreciated the time the MC’s spend apart after they left the cabin! They each had things about themselves to reflect upon and work on. This was an excellent way to avoid instalove-pitfalls even though their relationship was relatively instalove-adjacent. The fact that they still wanted to be together after a cooling off period worked well to illustrate that this wasn’t just a relationship created through extreme situations (…..cabin fever….?) but instead something with lasting potential. I also loved how their time in the cabin changed who they are/act in the rest of their lives, not just their romance.
-The time spent in survival mode in the cabin was very well done. Long periods of boredom with short sections of extreme danger is exactly what situations like this look like. This was also the perfect setting for this story to take place in, regarding both of those elements.
-Respect cold weather! I simply loved how realistic this part of the novel was. A lot of people don’t properly appreciate how dangerous cold weather is and underestimate what it can be like. The scene where Morgan walks back to the car was incredibly realistic, both that I can easily see someone trying this and also how badly it could go for them. I know this is a strange point to harp on for a romance novel, but I simply loved the realism (maybe it’s a Canadian thing?).
-HOW did you get me to actually appreciate and sympathise with people who work in this type of sales job? Good job, honestly. Make your next novel about used car saleswomen and get the reader to strongly empathise with them and cheer for their success, I bet this author could do it.
Nitpicks and Complaints:
-I don’t love it when the “enemies” part of the enemies-to-lovers equation is simply based on first impressions and assumptions that the characters make of each other. I find this to be a rather weak motivation. This either results in the conflict disappearing almost immediately, or lasting only because the characters refuse to communicate with each other, both of which are unsatisfying. This novel did a decent job in the end and made it work, but I still think this was a weakness that could have been improved upon.

The main characters of this book are Morgan and Shelby. Both are in medical sales and in competing businesses and they are both at a trade show. For Morgan, this is her first show and her manager introduces her to Shelby, who has been in this market for awhile. Morgan doesn't like how Shelby will do anything for a sale and keeps her distance from her. Shelby doesn't understand why Morgan is being so standoffish.
As the trade show draws to a close, the snow outside keeps falling. Morgan's manager tells her to rent a car just in case flights are cancelled. Luckily she takes his advice, because that is exactly what happens and Morgan gets the last rental. When she is going to retrieve her rental, she sees Shelby looking very distraught on the phone and sitting in a corner. She asks her if she has a car rented and when the answer is no, Morgan asks Shelby if she wants to ride with her. Shelby jumps at the chance.
The two women do not hit it off during the ride. Shelby wants to play music and Morgan is becoming more and more concerned about the condition of the roads and following the directions on her phone. They get lost and get into an accident when the car goes off the side of the road. Luckily, they are okay and see a cabin in the not so far distance to hopefully get help. There is no where there and they are able to find a key to get in. Having no luck with getting any bars on their phone, they decide to make the best out of their situation until they are rescued. They are lucky to find that the cabin has a pretty good supply of pantry food so they will not starve. The women are not thrilled about this, but they come to an uneasy truce and try to get along. The walls come down and they are able to see each other's true self and that is when they start to realize they are falling for each other.
I would recommend.
Like hearing the thoughts of a grumpy cat. That's how it feels when you read Morgan Alan's perspective.
She is a scientist who switched to sales for personal and humanitarian reasons based on the COVID events, because she wants to sell more of the really useful devices that she knows will really help humanity.
She is a somewhat dark character, who spends a lot of time in her head.
She meets her competitor Shelby Howard, who is pretty much the exact opposite and very successful, because of her blonde beauty and her extremely blue eyes.
Beautiful, distracting, but seemingly totally fake. At first, both of them are just not sure how to deal with each other.
Morgan's rather hostile nature even creates a kind of hatred.
Something that seems unfounded and based only on assumptions, but that's how we humans often are.
We assume instead of getting to know someone. That was a strong statement in this book that touched me very much.
In general, it is a very deep story with many hidden and very real fears and worries that everyone knows in one way or another.
Loss, insecurity, panic attacks, disappointment, family problems and even total rejection by the family.
You will certainly notice by now that this is not a funny, bubbling, sweet, simple romance that I am describing here.
It is slow-burn at its finest and then the whole thing with the snowstorm, the cabin and the injuries comes into play...
All I can say is that it was unexpectedly deep and exciting, but because of that very captivating.
Wonderful characters with depth and many layers!
It was an excellent reading pleasure!

Morgan and Shelby are two workaholics and competitors meet at a trade show and dislike each other on sight due to some misconceptions. Due to a snow storm they get stuck and end up in a rental car together that crashes but they get saved in a cabin they find. After a week together they slowly start to like each other perhaps even romantically.
A real slow burn and a bit too little little spice but a nice read.
