The Hospital by Leslie Wolfe is a decent psychological thriller. Even though is seemed to be a slow-going, it kept my interest as I tried to piece together what happened to Emma and by whom. The author does a good job with the setting. I could picture myself there and wonder how I would respond to the circumstances, especially the vulnerability of blindness and paralysis--having to trust one's caregivers without knowing who they really are. Readers who enjoy a good thriller mystery will enjoy this book. I read a complimentary copy of the book through NetGalley and was not required to write a positive review. The opinions are my own.

Emma wakes in hospital. Her eyes are bandaged, she can barely move, and her memory is missing. She is terrified that she will be attacked while vulnerable, even though she can't remember who or why she has been injured...
The Hospital is a psychological thriller set in America.
Poor Emma. Her fear is palpable as she lies in a hospital bed, completely reliant on others as she has lost her sight and her memory and can barely move. I could imagine her panic so vividly as it is well described. The hospital staff offer to protect her but she doesn't know who to trust or even if she can trust her own mind as memories begin to come back.
Most of the book is written from Emma's first person perspective as she tries to make sense of her situation and injuries. Her memories gradually come back and she has a lot to process. There are also some chapters that show her stalker and this raises the tension as we know she is not imagining the danger she faces.
There is a great mystery surrounding the attack which is maintained. However, the plot moves very slowly and I felt frustrated by the repetitive scenes of her waking confused, feeling sorry for herself and then remembering something. I'm much too impatient!
The Hospital is an intense but slow burn psychological thriller that plays on fear and vulnerability.

This story begins by throwing you straight into Emma’s world—she awakens in a hospital bed, blinded, and with memory fragments. I was immediately gripping, and like Emma, had no idea who to trust in the story. The author balances Emma’s unreliable, slowly resurfacing memories with chilling glimpses from her stalker’s perspective, which I enjoyed. The medical-setting was out of my comfort zone, but a nice change.

The story follows Emma, a woman who wakes up in the hospital with no memory of what happened to her. All she knows for sure is that someone tried to kill her. As she tries to piece together the fragmented memories in her mind, she remembers moments of her life with her husband, and she believes that once she recovers, she’ll go back to him. However, when he visits, Emma is shocked to learn that they’ve been divorced for three years, and he now has a new girlfriend.

This revelation shatters her sense of reality and forces Emma to question everything she thought she knew. As she struggles with her broken memory, she begins to notice discrepancies in the stories told by those around her. The doctors, nurses, friends, and family all seem to be hiding something. Emma’s only chance at survival is to uncover the truth buried deep within her mind, but with everyone lying to her, can she trust anyone?

The novel is filled with twists and turns, and as the shocking truth comes to light, readers will be left breathless, questioning what’s real and who Emma can truly trust. A fast-paced, edge-of-your-seat thriller with a breathtaking twist, The Hospital is perfect for fans of psychological suspense.

She is running, she is injured, she wakes in a hospital, unable to move, unable to see - she can talk but that is about it. She knows she was attacked and she knows she isn't safe, how can she protect herself when she doesn't know who hurt her and can't get her body to move.

So the book bounces between the main character Emma confined to a hospital bed, immobile and we hear from the bad guy, the person who committed the atrocity against Emma and they are OBSESSED! So we know Emma was assaulted and almost died and now is essentially locked in, cared for around the clock, frustrated with her lack of memory and her body's brokenness. We bounce around as she grasps for her memories, tries to get any kind of movement going and frantically find out who is after her.

I did take a bit to settle into the book as the narrator is so unreliable, she has a traumatic brain injury so we are finding out about her as she is. Things jump around a bit which I found a wee bit distracting but I think it adds strength to the character, you are meant to be unsettled and frustrated because she is and it is her story. I had suspicious/guesses galore, I was a bit like when watching an episode of Murder She Wrote lol, I have about twenty theories so one ought to stick!

Some shady characters, cheating, manipulation, frustration, health/recovery (or lack of) and processing her past as it is all coming back to her slowly as she is confined to body and bed. I would say the last quarter really came into its own so I was back and fourth on my rating. I am going for 3.5/5 (I added the .5 because the later part really was WOW, well for me anyway). This was my first by this author, it won't be my last.

The Hospital by Leslie Wolfe is a stand-alone read.

After Emma Duncan wakes up in a hospital after a brutal attack, she has zero memory of what brought her here other than the need to protect herself. She knows that someone is trying to kill her.

The book starts out strong but drags until the end. I was disappointed in the book. It had a great teaser for it, but it fell flat for me.

The book was OK their premise of the book was really good I just thought it dragged a little too much but the Twist and the ending was really good I never figured out that twist.

Emma wakes up in a hospital, unable to move, eyes and head wrapped and remembers nothing about how she got there. After the head trauma she incurred, she is told, this is not unusual and it will take time. But how long does this reader have to wait?
I had drawn my own correct conclusions of the where and the how but not the who---- there were several candidates who we were introduced to along the way, all of them worthy of the reader's speculation.
My impatience wanted Emma to be more aggressive when she had glimmers of mobility and sanity.
The pace picked up at the end and provided the excitement and intrigue I was looking for.

Imagine slowly coming to consciousness and coming to realize that you can't move, you can't open your eyes, and you have no idea of where you are or what has happened to you. You slowly start recalling running from someone but can't recall from whom or why. You only know you were running for your life. This is how The Hospital begins. It engaged me from the beginning and kept me throughout the book. I became caught up in Emma's fear.

As Leslie usually does, the story focuses on the protagonist while giving us insights from the antagonist. As Emma begins remembering her life, I was led to believe first one person then another was responsible for Emma's plight. As the action picked up I began reading faster, racing through the pages to the exciting conclusion

I gave this book 5 stars. I have not read alot by Leslie Wolfe but I will start now. This book had me hooked immediately. A story where someone who does not know who they are is usually fun! This book has a lot of twists and turns! You will not regret reading this one I assure you!

This book had so much potential but I was not super into it due to it feeling very repetitive. I didn’t fully figure out the ending but had an idea of what was going to happen. I did however like the flow of the story and that the FMC was unreliable, it kept the book interesting.

I enjoyed this read even though it dragged on a little with all the flashbacks. It keeps you on the edge of your seat, you can’t put it down as you can’t wait to find out what happens next. The characters were great, the story itself has plenty of twists and turns with a brilliant ending and the style of writing was perfect.
I have read other books by this author and I have loved them all. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to read psychological thrillers.
Thank you netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a honest review.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought I wasn't going to like this book. It was slow at the beginning and it felt like there was no story. The FMC was in the hospital and couldn't remember anything. It wasn't until maybe halfway through that the story picked up. Once the FMC started remembering things, it started getting good.
The first twist was obvious to me.
The other twist was a good one. I felt like the stalker was someone she knew but wasn't expecting who it really was!
Also, the other characters were so irritating. I feel like FMC needs better friends/people in her life.
I didn't like that there were a few loose ends. I would have liked to know how some of the other characters took the twist.

I loved 'The Surgeon' so I was excited to see that there was another book by the author. Sadly this one didn't live up to expectations. Emma has a job she loves, a handsome husband, lives in a beautiful home with an even nicer hideaway by Lake Tahoe. When she wakes up unable to move, her eyes bandaged & in great pain she has little or no idea how she got there. Slowly (very slowly!) she tries to make sense of things. It appears the loving husband isn't. They are separated. In fact he has a new woman lined up & wants Emma to sign over the Lake Tahoe house. Emma gradually remembers she had been scared of a stalker- did he do this to her, or was it closer to home?

This was a good idea & the author certainly captured Emma's feelings of helplessness. However I found it very slow going & the least said about the 'twist' the better! Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for letting me read & review this book.
