Very gripping. I thought I knew who the killer was over and over again only to be proven wrong. I enjoyed this book.

ARC REVIEW
IN THE FAMILY
By Martyn Taylor
cop crime murder mystery with mobster vibes . was an okay read but not really my cup of tea! I wasn't keen on the writing style but that was just my preference and felt there was alot of areas in the story that didn't seem worth mentioning also had a very predictable ending with no shocking twists, sadly not for me

This is a gripping, utterly authentic new crime thriller that starts with the pace of a runaway train and doesn't stop.
The corrupt world of elderly gangsters is evoked with skill, and Tyneside is hewn from flesh and blood in all its stark contrasts.
The plot is very character driven and I can't wait to read more investigations undertaken by DI Penelope Darling. The other female characters - Ekaterina, Kitty and Mrs Bainbridge - are also drawn with razor-sharp precision, overshadowing the two sons of the murdered ex-gangster and the man who likes people to think he is ex-SAS.
This is really gritty stuff: no nonsense coppers in a hard Northern landscape. I definitely intend to follow this series.

In the Family by Martyn Taylor was a quick and gripping organized crime thriller.
I love anything organized crime and gang related.
This story really did keep me flipping the pages and intrigued till the very last page.

Thank You NetGalley and The Book Folks for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!

Barry Dance, "The Dancer", a former criminal , now businessman, is murdered, and inexperienced Detective inspector Penny Darling is in charge of the case to find the killer. She has the support of her mentor and senior officer Milburn, and is assisted by Morton, an old school police officer, and Reid, a former colleague, now private detective. They are all good characters and there's a lot of humour in the dialogue.
The killer is revealed early on in the book, and the team search for evidence so they can charge the culprit. This is an enjoyable police procedural with a good plot. I look forward to the next book in the series. Recommended.
