Thank you Headline, Headline Eternal and NetGalley for the arc of The Book of Azrael by Amber V. Nicole in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed The Book of Azrael, urban fantasy is not normally my preferred sub genre but, Nicole has created a multi-faceted, compellingly dangerous, beautifully rich world that totally drew me in. There are multiple worlds and realms, diverse peoples and beings, distinct and intriguing histories and of course secrets behind these.

4.5 stars
Gods and monsters exist but, mortals are mostly unaware, and amidst all of this is a world of prophecy, magic, vampires, gods and monsters at war! The key protagonists are Dianna, enslaved to the terrible Kaden, and Samkiel, also known as Liam, a dead reseed Hod King haunted by his own deeds and past.

The was a bit meh about Dianna to begin with. The chosen one trope not being my favourite but, I was wrong Dianna’s story is about sacrifice and love and family. And the romance that develops between her and Samkiel truly felt right, yep, enemies to lovers but, written so well that the ramifications of their actions were so shocking.

Nicole blends and weaves the narrative to deliver a multi-layered plot that I just couldn’t foresee. Alongside, Nicole shares her skills across the cast of characters, bringing their personalities and histories to the fore, which only made the whole story a more holistic and engaging experience.

If you’re looking for a story that delivers fantasy, dragon like beasts, epic adventure, romance and a plot to save the Etherworld, you have to pick this book up! And yes, I am immediately moving on to the next book in the series - The Throne of Broken Gods - I have no choice, I must after that ending to Book One!

I loooooved this book from start to finish. I enjoyed how there was actually more to the FMC than liking the MC, I liked the kind of found family of it all, it was deliciously dark and very well written. Its one of the few thick books that ive read so fast.
I felt like the MC could have been less whiny though.

Thank you to NetGalley and Headline for the ARC of this amazing novel.

TikTok, Bookstagram and everyone bragging about this book didn't lie. It definitely lived up to the hype! The world building was a bit hard to get into, but then I fell in love with it. The characters were so good and their romance with top notch. I love a good enemies-to-lovers romance and this was just it.

This is the best read of 2024 for me! So many things I love about this book, so where do I start? Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, morally grey characters and just a good interesting story! First in the series and I am rushing off to read the next book! Have I found a potential new favourite UF author?!

I absolutely loved this book usually urban fantasy takes a while for me to get into but from the very first page I was instantly hooked.

Dianna is one of the best fmc I’ve read in a long time she became the villian to save someone she loved and is unapologetic about it. Her character growth was exceptional and I can’t wait to see what else is to come in the next instalments.

Liam is the golden retriever mmc and I love seeing how the dynamics between him and Dianna played out. Their banter was seriously so good.

The world building, the plot and characters were just so good and I can’t wait to see what comes next after such a brutal cliffhanger!

I received a free arc from the publisher to read and review the book - all thoughts are my own.

Dianna is an other worldly creature, a monster. Feared and powerful, she has a deal with the most dangerous and powerful person until she betrays him to work with a legend from another world.

Wow! This story was amazing, filled with banter and wit and dark plots. I loved the characters and plot twists and different creatures.
The romance was also a major subplot. Be warned, there is spice!
I would definitely recommend for fans of Crescent City or A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas.

I can’t wait for the next instalment.

The book of Azrael by Amber V Nicole.
Gods and Monsters 1.
Many centuries ago, desperate to save her dying sister, Dianna made a deal with Kaden, a monster far worse than any nightmare. Locked in servitude to him, she is forced to hunt down an ancient relic held by her most dangerous enemies: an army led by Samkiel, the World Ender. After the Gods War, Samkiel hid from everything, denying his crown and deserting his people. Now, an attack on those he loves sends him back to the realm he never wished to return to, and into the sights of an enemy he had hoped to forget. With every world at stake, Dianna and Samkiel are forced to set aside their animosity and work together, before all is lost . . .
I loved the cover. This is a new author for me. I really enjoyed this book. I did like Dianna and Liam. I was surprised how quickly I read it. I Couldn't put it down. I read it in two sittings. I loved how the monsters were described. I liked it when Dianna got jealous over Camilla. I liked Coretta for helping Dianna and Liam. Omg the ending. I can't wait for the next book. 4*.
