Seductive Venetian setting. Great chemistry between Venetia and Paolo. A love story to lose yourself in. I thoroughly enjoyed The Echoes of Love and recommend it for fans of romance especially those who love their stories taking place in beautiful settings. I am definitely planning on grabbing some of Hannah Fielding's other works.

Grateful to NetGalley and London Wall Publishing for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

I'm sorry to be several years late to review this book, published in 2013. The Echoes of Love is a steamy romance written in a very flowery language with an interesting, though slightly unbelievable plot twist. The descriptions of Venice and Italy countryside make me wish I could go visit the places Hannah Fielding describes so beautifully, to see them for myself. Steamy romance is generally not my cup of tea, but I liked this novel, even though a lot of it is about the main couple's physical reactions to each other's touch.

Here are a couple of excerpts to give you a taste:

"Strong, masculine features graced his nut-brown face beneath a thick crop of raven-black hair, sleek and shining, swept back from a wide forehead. He wasn't good-looking in the classical sense, his face was too craggy for that immediate impact, but he was a striking man who emanated controlled power."

"The beach was deserted, apart from two or three solitary dark shapes of fishermen wading to and from their boats, carrying tackle and jars by lamp-flare, the residue of a night's fishing. They found a solitary rock and sat on it by the fringe of the clear and laughing water breaking softly on the sand at their feet. Behind them there rose a semicircle of mountains. The sun was not yet up, the air redolent with the fragrance of the sea breathing all around."

Romance, Women’s Fiction

The story begins in Venice in 2000. Venita is walking home in the evening during Carnival when she is approached by two strangers in masks and cloaks. They try to steal her purse, but she fights them. All of a sudden there is shouting, and a man comes to her rescue causing the attackers to run away. Paolo Barone is a charismatic man and convinces Venita to have a hot chocolate to come down after the incident.

Their paths cross several times without more an acknowledge until the fancy-dress ball. Venita has been working on Roberto’s house for a while and this is the night of the unveiling. He introduces her to Paolo not realizing the two have previously meet.

The book is written in third person past tense. The story flows well and the characters are developed. You can feel the passion that runs between the two of them whenever they are near each other. If you like romance stories, you will probably enjoy this one.

I received this book for free from Netgalley
I liked this book a lot. It was intriguing and romantic because of its setting in Venice.
Still, there were some aspects that I didn't particularly enjoy like the parts about Allegra being evil and other things that I just skipped over, like I skipped over the sex scenes, because I don't think it's appropriate for me.
However, I enjoyed the sense of mystery that the author wove throughout the story. She hinted at what the big twist would be, but I wasn't entirely sure, so I was a little surprised at the end. I do wish that she had taken longer to resolve the story. I felt like there was this huge twist, and then suddenly the story ended. I wanted to know more details behind how it happened and see Venetia and Paolo really come together more at the end. Overall, it was an intriguing book, and I loved the setting of the story as well as the main characters.

The story was good but the characters didn't draw me in as much as I would have liked. The plot line was interesting I just wish the characters had been a bit less flat.

Enjoyed reading this, but didn't feel it was particularly original. The author is an elegant writer and does a good job creating a convincing cast of characters.
