What a cute read about Moira and Frank!

Moira is in LA while her daughter Harriet is studying abroad. Her daughter falls madly in love with a boy named Aiden and what to take the next steps in the relationship. Moira and Harriet go to meet Aiden’s father, Frank, at his fabulous Malibu home. After a not so cute meet cute, Moira is stunned to find out that Frank is the author of one of her favorite romance novels. But one thing that Frank and Moira connect on is that this six week romance between was moving too quick.

Aiden and Harriet’s relationship is getting pretty and want to elope with or without their parent’s consent. Frank’s and Moira, although enemies, team up together to try and conspire to end the relationship.

Will Franks and Moira be successful in ending their children’s relationship or will their new companionship turn into something more.

Thanks you NetGalley for the Arc!

Second Chance Romance tells the story of Moira, who finds out in the middle of her marriage that everything she thought about her husband is untrue.
As she is on the plane heading to help their only daughter settle into a term in California she discovers something that shakes up who she thought she was. Meanwhile, her daughter falls head over heels in love and wants to get married after only 6 weeks of being with her boyfriend.
Enter Frank, a best selling novelist turned script writer, the father of her daughter's love interest. They dislike each other immensely but band together to stop their children from making a huge mistake of marrying so early in their relationship.
Close proximity means that they end up flaring with sexual tension for the better part of the novel.

I wasn't sure if I liked the character of Moira, but I really liked Frank. His spiky but hilarious conversation had me giggling while Moira's character just couldn't make up what she wanted. I appreciate she would have felt like she was at a real crossroads in her life but I wanted her to be decisive long before she actually did!

It's a decent read so would give it 3.5 stars overall.

Many thanks to the publishers and Netgalley for an early release copy in exchange for an honest review

I had a lot of fun reading this story and going on these travels with Moira, first in California and then Greece. I didnt care for her husband Rupert, so was glad that he did not feature that much in the story and the male main character, Frank was one of those guys that you kind of want to hate, but see the appeal of... hard to describe and I guess that is also how Moira felt. There was a lot of banter going on between Moira and Frank and sometimes it was a little OTT, but it still made for entertaining reading. I really liked Moira and her daughter's relationship and felt that I could relate bespite having boys and not a daughter. I can imagine the worries of young love and moving too fast especially when it is your child.

I binge read this book in one night. I found it to be very witty. And I had many laugh out loud moments. This is definitely your quintessential rom com book including some cringe and predictable and frustrating parts but overall this was such an enjoyable and easy read, with excellent writing style. KUDOS!

We all would like to believe we have a second chance at romance if our first love doesnt last. Moira and Frank create an angst with sarcasm, banter, and honesty. This connection between relatable characters is what I liked in particular about the book. It made me feel acknowledged in my own relationship connections with friends, my children, and my spouse. I loved the excitement of young love and knowledge of lives lived, trying to help kids not make the mistakes we did at 19 and 22. The plot was engaging, relatable, and adventurous. I enjoyed this book!

I did not like this story. I almost didn’t finish. I honestly thought this was gonna be a cute and funny rom com based in summer and it wasn’t that. I had no interest in the MMC. He was a jerk the whole time throughout the book.

*3.75 stars*

I was finding it a little hard to decided how to rate this book but I think settling on 3.75 is the perfect way to rate it as it definitely definitely deserves more than 3 stars but when I compared it to my other 4 star reads I feel there was some differences. The only things on my part that let this book slip below 4 stars for me was not being able to relate to the characters as much as some other books I’ve read and that purely because I’m not married and I don’t have children so to read about a married woman with a child in uni, at some parts I was unable to relate to her or a way she was feeling, I did imagine that maybe in the same instances that would be how my mum would feel in the same situation, which I find did help me when reading this. But I also loved the characters (Rupert not so much 🥲). The only other little thing that put me off the book was that I felt I couldn’t get into it untill they eventually got to Santorini after that I found I was loving the book and I was reading it a lot faster, but again I feel at the start of the book she was very Moira the mum and not so much Moira who’s more relaxed and fun, so it may not be that I couldn’t get into it rather than I couldn’t relate again and it just took me longer to find my rhythm with it.

Overall I enjoyed this book, it was fun and lighthearted, it was really cute at parts and did make me smile a few times, especially Frank the smooth talker! I loved their banter and the bickering as if they were the old married couple. Also the way this book ended, it did have me smiling, I loved the little twist to the ‘usual’ Romcom endings of the guy chasing the girl and also a little teaser for potentially a second book I see … I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a closed door, romcom and summer vibes 🫶🏻

Review dari aku yang pasti mengandung spoiler✌️ :

Karakter Moira as Heroine disini menurut aku typical alpha single momma yang terpaksa menjalankan role as Ibu dan Ayah dalam satu waktu dihadapkan dengan kenyataan bahwa anak perempuannya sudah dewasa, yang mana tindakannya leading to perjalanan merasakan kembali spark of love seperti saat muda nya dulu. So far yang aku perhatikan karena mengalami perjalanan percintaan yang buruk apalagi sampai ada anak yang menjadi korban dalam hubungan itu membuat Heroine kita nih tarik-ulur perasaannya, but bagus dong tetap rasional over heart meskipunnnn ya it’s happy for both (Hero & Heroine) + kadang Heroine kita buta akan fakta Hero nya tuh mengatakan sesuatu yang buruk tentang anaknya which is read flag for me alias #kaboooorrrrr

Karakter Frank as Hero : Back story si back story Om tapi bisa gak Om kalau bicara di rem sedikit please, itu anak dan Ibu mandiri lohhh lovely gitu ngomongnya ke mereka jangan nyelekit bisa? Ada momen dimana pengen bejek-bejek si Om ini apalagi pas after bad mouthing calon mantunya malah kaya get his second puberty dan berakhir deketin Emak menantunya what a jerk!, but banyak juga momen-momen dimana di tunjukan bahwa his dark back story made him like that and he is always tried to heal that moga cepet sembuh ye Om, please treat them well pokoknya. Dan yang aku suka dari Om ini yaitu doi penulis novel romantis, which is ekspetasinya doi sama cinta itu sangat tinggi dapet happy ending dan doi ngungkapin harapan tentang hubungannya dengan Moira melalui tulisan *funfact Moira fangirlnya doi lohhh, bisa dibilang Heroine kita disini lucky fangirl ga siii?

Moira : Heroine
Frank : Hero

My Favorite Part Of The Book :

‘So… what’s this book about? I think you’re pbliged to tell me - now that we know i’m here.’

He gets up from his seat, like his brain suddenly commanded his body, takes tentative steps towards me. He’s wearing and untucked whoite linen shirt, and faded blue jeans, like that first day in his kitchen. And his feet are bare.

‘It’s about a jaded, middle-agged writer, and the woman who makes him believe in something again.’
‘And does it have a happy ending?’ I ask. ‘I don’t know,’ he sayas. ‘You tell me.’

🌟🌟🌟 ⭐️ ⭐️ 3.5/5 Stars from Me!

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book! Second Chance Romance was such an awesome idea and unique story, but I honestly had a hard time getting into this book. I found the main characters Moira and Frank very unlikable, and was really annoyed by how they handled situations throughout the entire book. This book just felt like there should have been more of a wrap up to the story and sadly was a little difficult to follow.

This definitely didn’t feel like a rom-com
It felt like a wannabe romance books
The fact that the characters are probably in their 40’-50’s abd they act worse the teenagers it made my blood boil.
Moira could’ve been bearable but frank……. On of the worse mmc i ve read he was very mean just for the sake of it
Unfortunately this one was not for me
2⭐️
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for the arc🫶🏻

This was a hard book to finish, nearly put me into a reading slump.
I didn't like Moira's relationship with her daughter, in fact I didn't like her relationships with anyone. She's a doormat towards her daughter. And her hooking up with Frank came like a cannon ball. I know its an enemies-to-lovers, but this has no build-up at all.

I loved this book. As someone who's been married for 10 years, I really enjoyed the juxtaposition of young love (Harriet & Aiden) vs. a more seasoned outlook on love & marriage (Moira & Frank). I really enjoyed the honest representation of how love changes within a marriage (not always a bad thing).

It was realistic in that Moira had good character growth throughout the whole book. She didn't just jump from one failed relationship to the first shiny thing. I loved that Frank was mature enough to insist on her making her own decisions for herself.

All the characters were well thought out and learned important lessons by the end of the book (I hope Rupert does too! What a jerk!).

Thank you to Bookouture & NetGalley for an advanced reader copy (ARC) in exchange for my honest review.

4 stars as women's fiction, 3 stars as romance

To their parents’ horror, Moira’s 19 year old daughter and Frank’s 22 year old son believe they’ve found “the one” and are talking marriage after just six weeks together. The two mature adults in the room conspire to break up the young couple, but things get complicated fast. And then they get even more complicated.

It takes a while to get past Moira’s self-righteousness and Frank’s general douche-baggery, but if you give the pair a chance and are willing to suspend a lot of disbelief, when they finally open up to each other and unpack their own baggage, the story becomes redemptive and hopeful in an important mid-life way.

“Second Chance Romance” should definitely be categorized as women’s fiction rather than romance. While the book explores romantic relationships and there is much analysis of romance and love, there are some romance genre rules broken that are pretty unpalatable to a romance reader.

Oh how I loved this book
I guess in some way I can understand how Moira felt. Being in a relationship but being checked out mentally-without realizing- is something I can relate to. Definitely when you realise it the same moment you fall in love with someone else.
Anyways, Frank was honestly so funny, I laughed out loud a couple of times during this book.
Absolutely amazing

This was a cute easy beach read. I read this on my way to Greece and it was a fun way to get into the atmosphere of Athens and Santorini on my way there.
Frank and Moira’s love story was really sweet too

Second Chance Romance is a fun summer read. I really liked that it was about a middle aged man and woman since so many books these days are about young couples. While I liked the book I wasn’t a huge fan of how judgmental Moira initially was of Frank. I did like the banter between them. I also enjoyed how the author painted a beautiful picture of Greece. Overall I liked the book and the development of the characters. Thank you Net Galley and Bookouture for the advanced copy of the book in exchange for my honest feedback

Firstly, thank you for letting me read second Chance Romance early.
Can you fall in love in juat a small 6 weeks. Well in this beautiful story about finding who you are again, we explore two people being forced together, little did they know, they have a lot on common, one example, that their children can't possibly be in love juat after knowing one other for 6 weeks

"Second Chance Romance" is a touching and emotionally resonant novel that will stay with you long after you've turned the final page. Carol Mason has created a beautifully crafted story that reminds us all that sometimes, love truly does conquer all.
Thank you for the ARC

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There are some really funny, cheeky moments but on the flip side the author sensitively broaches some difficult relationship issues. I think the difficulty are written really well. There are two sides to every story.

Moira and Frank think they know best as parents and this is something a lot of both parents and children will relate to whatever age they are.

The perfect enemies to lovers novel for a couple who have had experience and been through some tough stuff.

Frank comes across as a bit of a d*** to start with but Moira doesn't show herself in the best light getting defensive over things Frank has done (or not done in some instances). Despite there flaws they are such warm and clearly loving (of their children). It seems to be out of concern that they trying to stop their kids from making a mistake but it's not their mistake to make, will they find that out before it's too late and they lose them for good. (That's for me to know and you to find out when you read this book).

I’m sorry but this book was not upto my expectations. I read the blurb and was excited but I hated both the main characters. They did not act like 40 years old but rather like a children that don’t acknowledge their wrong doings. Such a gaslighting behavior for them was concerning. Her just trying to get physical thinking about his skin, bare legs was just cringe and it’s written by a female author which was just not it. I even find it hard to rate rn. I’ll post the review on Instagram after its published and won’t tag the author. Thank you NetGalley and published for the arc. I would have dnf’ed the book if it was not the arc.
