This was my first Eddie Flynn book and whilst it was obvious there was history between his team it was not at all difficult to read as a standalone and the details provided about the characters probably offered a good refresher of their backgrounds. This was a fascinating read as it centres around former rich girl Ruby who is a witness to a murder but when she makes an anonymous call to the police naming the perpetrator she intentionally sets up an innocent man for the crime leading me constantly speculating as to the why. Meanwhile Eddie himself is in trouble as he has made a dangerous enemy which offers a solid secondary story with some fabulous tricks and twists. Ruby is a brilliantly complex character, in fact several of the characters are quite perverse which really strengthens the book and the two stories intertwine very well. I had some vague ideas as to the motivation behind Ruby’s actions but there were still some surprises and they all played out very well, there’s a lot of slick thinking gone into this making it a brilliantly twisty read.
