As a huge fan of the Maeve Kerrigan books by the same author, I was thrilled to find another series by her, the Jess Tennant one.
This might be aimed at a younger audience, but it does not lose the quick wit, deftly drawn characters and engaging plot of her adult novels.
Jess is still in Port Sentinel with her mother, 3 months after the events of the first book, when she becomes involved in a near fatal beating that is being passed off as a hit and run accident.
Suspicious about the nature of Seb Dawson's injuries, his step sister calls on Jess to investigate as she did with her cousin, Freya's death.
However, in between juggling delicate family and friends relationships, and the difficulties of starting a new school, has Jess finally bitten off more than she can chew?
Perfect for fans of Veronica Mars and Nancy Drew, this has plenty to engage the curious reader side stepping from Maeve's shenanigans.
