I DNFed this book. I didn’t feel a “why” with this couple. It just felt like weird, niche flirting and it was a little choppy. I read ahead and it seemed full of drama, so I decided it wasn’t my jam. Thanks for the opportunity, though!

Jamie and Fitz's trip had my full attention. I couldn't express how amazed I was by the plot's flawless twists and turns. I experienced every feeling in this story. From Air has a really satisfying ending and is masterfully written. I can't wait for the next book in the series, and this is a must-read.
Thank you so much Montlake & Netgalley for the e-arc.

Another winner! I loved the banter and the romance so much! There is humor and angst and secrets. And firefighters! Did I mention that?
There is also a nice twist to the story that made it even more special. I recommend it!

I became a huge fan of this author after reading Sunday Morning.
From Air didn't disappoint. Calvin "Fitz" Fitzgerald is a grumpy smoke jumper who wants to be left alone. Jaymes "Jamie" Andrews is a traveling nurse and a ray of sunshine.
These two, while ten year age-gap seems to get each other. The story is told by the two main characters POVs. There's lots of banter between them, because while Calvin/Fitz is pushing Jamie away, she is giving it back as she gets it. She's the only person to get under his skin.
They bend the house rules to avoid being kicked out, but things go a little too far one night. It's a secret only they know.
The book started a little slow for me then seemed to pick up around the halfway point when pieces started falling into place. Two plot twists that I didn't see coming in the beginning came through as we reach the end.
This story is about letting yourself be loved, going after your dreams, forgiving yourself and your past and moving forward with hope for a life deserved.
Calvin and Jaymes got 4 stars.

Jamie decides to become a travel nurse so she can travel from place to place and experience new places and people. Her first travel assignment is in Montana. After that, she has no idea where she’ll end up. Calvin (aka Fitz) is a smoke jumper. He might have originally been from California but he loves his job in Montana. When Jamie and Fitz first meet, they run each other the wrong way. But maybe a little friction can turn to a little heat, and it just might become an inferno. Can two people from vastly different places be the perfect fit or will fate have them burn hot then burn out?
Jamie and Fitz are both snarky and abrasive. They are both dedicated to their careers. They are 11 years apart in age, which is a big deal to Fitz. In fact, that plays a part in the entire story. No spoilers but that age difference is part of a major plot twist that I didn’t see coming. There is a rule in the house that roommates do not have adult activities together so when Jamie and Fitz break that rule they have to conspire together to keep it a secret. That was a nice turning point in the story and helped develop their relationship. They make sense together because their personalities are complementary even if there is a difference in age. I will not say what happens in the story except to say that they end up apart then they try to find a way back together and then the universe drives a wedge between them and then they find a way to move forward together. Honestly, the first half of the book and the second were almost like two different books except that readers needed both halves in order for the book to have emotional impact. I won’t say what but the end was really fulfilling because of the long and winding journey. There are good side characters that help to push the story forward.
My one complaint is that the story is very slow and almost too quiet in the beginning. I was prepared to write a review saying it was boring but then I got to the second half and changed my mind. I don’t know how the author could have done it differently because all of the characters needed to be in place and developed in order for the twists and turns to work.
This is a contemporary romance that takes place in Montana, California and a couple of other places. Both characters are professional adults with demanding careers. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.

happy, happy release day, @authorjeweleann! i can't believe calvin & jamie are out in the world today! their love story deserved to be savored and loved. it's officially one of my most favorite jewel e ann books to date!
when jamie andrews picks up a travel rotation in montana, the last thing she expected was to find the love of her life in her new roommate. mostly because calvin is a grumpy smoke jumper ten years her senior. but also because he's entirely off-limits to her. as sparks between them start to fly, she realizes their love could be incendiary, and it threatens to set their lives as they know it ablaze.
this book is full of classic jewel e. ann-isms: spice, banter, heart, and humor. it made me laugh and it made my heart ache from all the angst and torment these characters go through. BUT it also has the most unexpected plot twists! the mystery-loving part of my brain (honed by all the nancy drew books i read as a kid!) was only able to piece together half of the insanity that was this book! i don't want to spoil anything for you, so i'll leave my review at that. just know, this is the kind of love story you truly won't forget!

Wow! What an emotional, heart wrenching ride. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to forget about this book. I feel bad for anyone who doesn’t get to finish this book. It was a slow beginning but the second half is so worth the effort.

This is only my second book by Jewel E. Ann, but already I love her writing style. This book focuses on Jamie a traveling nurse from Florida who travels to Montana to work in a psychiatric hospital. She is living with 3 other firefighters who work in various ways to put out fires and rescue others. Immediately upon entering the house she is warned about Fitz but when she meets him she is intrigued by him and based on his personality able to detect his zodiac sign. Calvin (Fitz) who is a grumpy, hard to get along with smoke jumper and about 10 years older than her. As they get to know each other and playfully tease one another, a romance begins to grow. But, Will the owner of the house has banned any of the roommates from getting involved with each other. So these two try to keep this relationship a secret from the rest of the house. But, Calvin has his own secret. This story was so sad and angsty. As always I prefer to go into a book blind and I’m glad I did. This story was so compelling I couldn’t stop until I reached the end. Great characters, amazing plot with some spice.

"I’m unsure if I despise Calvin Fitzgerald or if he’s officially my newest obsession."
From Air is ✨️my✨️ newest obsession. I'm not sure what Jewel puts in her books, but I'm 100% addicted. I can always count on each one to hook me from the first page and consume my whole being until I finish, and even afterwards, too. Every book of hers becomes a new favorite, and no surprise From Air is the newest one.
"My person. Calvin Fitzgerald is my dream—the kind that doesn’t come true and ends with a pounding heart and an aching reality."
Days later and I'm still constantly thinking about this book 🥹 One of my favorite reads of the year!! The evidence is all the highlighting and bookmarking I've done. This book has it all: spice, the best banter, emotion, and something you don't see coming. I've said it once and I'll say it again, Fitz and Jamie are EVERYTHING.

Jewel E Ann fictional men will capture my heart EVERY TIME. I loved this book and was immediately obsessed with Jaymes and Fitz. It had a lighter tone to it while still having the angsty vibes that this author writes so well.

Thank you for the opportunity to read this arc.
I loved this story. I signed up for this arc after reading the synopsis and getting interested but when I started it and did not remember exactly what it was about and went in kind of blind. It was the best decision.
The raw emotions, the laughter and friendship, and the writing of this book were all so amazing!
There was a situation that I predicted, related to our amazing FMC Jamie but there as a plot twist that I definitely did not predict.
I loved Fitz, how closed off he was, but so so funny and sweet either way. I loved how he got closer and closer to Jamie, and that he never even dreamed of “stopping” her from living her dreams.
I loved her love of her job and patients, and her conflicting feelings about it all.
I definitely want more of this universe and characters, and more of this author!

Jewel E. Ann is an author who can devastate me every time, From Air is heartwrenching. I adored Fitz, he's the perfect amount of indifferent but you can feel his need for love and struggle to hide his feelings from Jamie. Jamie's sweet, and maybe a little naive, her patience and kindness shines through, The banter had me cracking up and feeling furious in the same sentence. Fitz is definitely one of Jewel's characters you love to hate in the beginning but end up just loving. The twists, the chemistry, it's all amazing and kept me engrossed. Definitely recommend, can not wait for the second book!

I really liked this one as it was a bit different and kind of refreshing. Jamie and Fitz went through so much in their past. I really like the tension between the two and I actually laughed a couple times. Jamie is a travel nurse for 6 months (a reason he’s there) and roommates with a couple firefighters and Fitz is the grumpy one. There was a bit of mystery to be solved but I’m glad Jamie broke Fitz’s walls.
I received this book at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book..I'm trying to put it into words what I felt while reading this book. It packs so much emotions that I was not expecting to feel. I went in blind and listened to the audio at the same time. It was a experience that I hadn't felt in a long time. The narrators bought this story to life, the emotions were brought out so perfectly that you felt yourself wiping away a tear and really getting into how the characters were going thru. Towards the end of this book, I had to step away multiple times cause the tears were just rolling down my face so hard, that I couldn't read or listen anymore. My emotional quota was full. This book is one that will stick with me for a long time. I still feel Fitz and Jaymes story in my soul. This book will change you or at least it did me.
You have two broken characters, one is determined to travel the world and help people. Jaymes is a traveling nurse, working wherever they need her. She gets a job in Montana that she has no idea that it will change her life for the best. The journey that Jaymes goes on will just break your heart. She loves hard and wears her emotions on her sleeve. She knows very little about her past, other then what her mom told her when she got older. She has her bestie and her roommates that care deeply for her. And then there's Fitz.. the grumpy standoffish fire jumper who doesn't know how to open up or really show or say he loves you. He has a past as well that is heartbreaking as well. H
Fitz is a lovable grump. You seriously can't help but love him. He's holding onto the past and refuses to let anyone in. He feels comfort in the fires that he fights and doesn't want anyone to worry about him.
Jaymes and Fitz create such a great friendship that she calls him, "her person." The one person in life that brings her calmness. I love the banter between them. The times where they call each other out for being idiots and just being there for one another. They make this work despite at times being thousands of miles apart. I just love them together!
The past has a way of catching up to you and with this one, it just one that you have to experience yourself. It will tear your heart out.
If you can't tell by now. I so loved the book, the characters and the emotions that was felt throughout this entire book. It's truly a thing of beauty!

What a book! If I could only describe what this book is in what word I’d said ‘Love’ this is the definition of love, what love is, what we wish love to be, what everyone is searching for. Which pretty much sums up this story too.
The FMC James is packing up her life in her car and off to travel the US as a travelling mental health nurse. Her first stop and her first house share also happens to have the grumpiest man she’s ever met, the MMC Calvin (Fitz). He’s a smoke jumper and even his friends can’t penetrate his cold exterior. He works, sleeps and works.
Jamie is ‘tasked’ with fixing Fitz before she leaves, a job she takes a great deal of enjoyment out of when she realises that his whit and sarcasm are almost as integral to his personality and DNA as in hers.
Jamie isn’t looking for anything, especially in a grumpy, older, roommate but she’s can’t deny somehow he’s her person and it’s starting to look like fate was a bigger factor in both their lives than they could have ever imagined.
This book was a breath of fresh air. The characters, their relationship, the development, their banter, this book was funny, captivating, wholesome, spicy and downright beautiful. To the way it was written, the plot of the book, the emotion and the love.
I absolutely loved it, it was one of the easiest books to read because of how seamless you could fall into these characters. It was like reading a text exchange between friends and sitting back and enjoying the show.
One of my favourite books of 2025.
5⭐️3🌶️
I was extremely fortunate to receive this book as an Arc but the thoughts and opinions are completely my own.
Thank you @Jewel E.Ann for this beautiful book @valentinePR

The banter. The looks. The flirtatiousness. The twists!
JEA has a way of creating a story that is not only romantic but also twisted and mind-blowing. "From Air" was no exception yet I NEVER SAW THE TWIST COMING. With its blend of humor, emotion, and hopeful moments, "From Air" is another perfect story from Jewell.
Our leading characters are respectful of their own boundaries and abilities as well as each other. Jamie and Fitz have this chemistry that's far more than sexual. There's a friendship and understanding between the friends (yes, friends wink wink) that makes their journey absolutely lovely to see unfold.

This is my top read for the year!
It is written in Jamie and Fitz's alternating POV. Jamie is a young traveling nurse, and Fitz is a fire jumper. There is an age gap but it didn't dominate the storyline like I was worried it would. I instantly loved Fitz. You could tell there was something more to him and seeing him open up was lovely. Both he and Jamie have experienced tragic loss in their past, but I still wasn't prepared for how the plot twist evolved. This is part of a series but can very much be read as a standalone.

I would have read this book no matter the storyline but she had me at a house full of firefighters. I've no idea how it happens but every book this author writes manages to break me emotionally. This was a story that captivated me from the start, like the characters of Jamie and Fitz it was complex. I loved that there were moments of humour and banter that sat easily beside the tender and sexual charged moments. The angst and pain when those moments of realisation dawned, when the truth of the past was revealed were truly heartbreaking. The author managed to weave a story full of tension and surprises but also with an unforgettable love story.

This was my first time reading something from this author and I tried. I did. I wanted to like this. I just couldn't connect with these characters. They were just wayyyyy to much for me.
DNF 41%.

A slow burn opposites attract romance. This is a roommate to lovers story. Not enemies and not friends but with elements of sarcasm and flirting that helps overcome years of pain, anger, loss and stubborn determination.
Calvin Fitzgerald is opposed to love. Fighting the pain and loss he suffered losing his family he makes the decision to avoid love and therefore avoid pain. As a smoke jumper he gets his adrenaline kicks and doesn’t have to worry about leaving anyone behind or anyone worrying about him.
Jaymes Andrews is a psychiatric nurse doing temporary work at different hospitals to see the world. Landing as the roommate of Calvin, the other 2 roommates joke that maybe she can fix him. Jamie has pain of her own although she welcomes love with open arms.
Unable to avoid each other and growing closer Fitz still tries to stick to his stubborn ways while Jamie outwardly tries to accept his point of view.
Their worlds crash down around them when Jamie makes a shocking discovery. This was a twist I did not see happening and the book took on a more emotional plot from this point.
I really enjoyed reading this story and it tugged at my heart strings on more than one occasion.
Thanks to Valentine pr via NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this.
