Tropes: travel nurse x smoke jumper, small town, roommates, forced proximity, grump x sunshine, secret relationship, angsty, hero with traumatic past
Fitz + Jaymes were so unexpected! Iโve learned that nothing is truly as it seems with Jewel E Annโs stories and I absolutely love that. I went into this not knowing anything other then the MMC was a smoke jumper and OH MY was my mind blown. It was just a beautiful story. Getting to see Fitz heal and grow because of his love for Jaymes was so pure. There were some angsty moments where they both just made me wanna throw my kindle, but overall I just wanted to hug them both. I canโt wait to read the next book in this series!!

I thought this book was so good , I loved the writing in this . I truly love the banter between the two main characters! It made me want more after it was done . I gave it a 4/5 stars . Definitely going to recommend it to my friends .

โJaymes, youโre my favorite kind of wrong.โ
When Jamie Andrews moves in with a house full of firefighters, things start heating up fast. Battling the wilderness of rural Montana, these guys are always charging into dangerโfor a living, for duty, for the rushโand since Jamie is a psychiatric nurse, they fascinate her analytic mind. She canโt help but fixate on Calvin, a grumpy, enigmatic smoke jumper ten years her senior. She makes playfully tormenting him her pet project, trying to get him to open up. It turns out he gives as good as he gets.
When something smoldering between them sparks, theyโll have to keep it quiet, which makes Jamie start to wonder about Calvinโs secret, the one he wonโt explain. Sheโll learn more after life pulls them apart. But as she follows the truth like a trail of flame into the dark, will it lead her to hearth and home with Calvinโฆor will it all go up in a blaze?
This book was beautifully written. I swooned, cried and gasped. There were times I was worried that Jaymes and Calvin wouldnโt have a HEA.
Buckle in for this cozy romantic ride.
โCalvin Fitzgerald makes me laugh. He makes me cry. He makes me swoon. He makes me blush. He makes me feel.โ

Oh my gosh, I loved it! I have read other novels by this author and loved them. This novel did not disappoint. So so so good! I went into this novel blind not knowing much about the plot. I would recommend doing this. This novel took my emotions on such a wild ride. I loved the dialogue and the banter. From the first chapter this novel captured my attention and held on tight until the very last page. Even then this novel floated around in my head for days after I read it. So so good! I loved it! I loved Calvin and Jamie. Their chemistry was so so good! Once I started reading I could not put this novel down. This meant staying up all night reading. So so worth losing sleep over. This novel touched my heart! I can hardly wait to see what this author has coming next. I loved this novel!

Say hello to my latest obsession. I didnโt think Jewel could top If This is Love, but she might have done it with this one. From Air had me in a chokehold from start to finish, and I loved every minute of it. No one does angsty romance like Jewel E. Ann. Sheโll have you crying one minute and laughing the nextโthe perfect balance of heavy and light.
This book deals with lots emotional topics, but the top tier banter keeps it from becoming too overwhelming. Jamie and Fitz were the perfect pairing. Give me a broody, grumpy MMC and a witty, sunshine-y FMC any day! I loved the depth Jewel created with these characters. I loved them all! I never wanted the book to end, and I canโt wait for book two!!

This is a wild ride of full blown ANGST and Iโm here for it. From Air is a masterpiece and I will die on that hill. Iโm in love with every single jaw dropping moments, and the love that flourished from it. Bravo, Jewel E Ann, BRAVO!

I don't think emotional is a big enough word to cover how this book made me feel! I have seen everyone raving about this author and I can see why! What a rollercoaster this was! I just loved everything about it, the banter, the feels, the burn, the heartache and more. A great story and unlike anything I've read. Loved the twist and turns. Can't wait for book 2.

Jewel has done it again! She manages to pack so much into her books, and doesnโt shy away from allowing her characters to experience true emotions, like grief and anger.
The chemistry between Fitz and Jamie was immediate, even though they were both resistant to the idea of a relationship. The physical tension was palpable and had me screaming from the rooftops for them to *get together already*! I loved the fact that he was a smoke jumper and she was a traveling psychiatric nurse.
Through the journey of traveling to Montana for her job, Jamie uncovers some deeply rooted family secrets that change the trajectory of their relationship in a pretty significant way. Their individual and collective journeys through the grieving process were refreshing to see, and made them characters that were very easy to connect with.

Jewel E. Ann has a way with romances. Fitz and Jamie are so much fun. They have some great banter and friction. Itโs a romance they just canโt resist. A romance that took quite the unexpected turn. A little heartbreaking. A little healing. A love you have to believe you deserve.
I can't wait to read what else she has in store for the other characters continuing on in this series.

Jewel makes it IMPOSSIBLE to put her books down. From the moment I opened to the first page of From Air, I was in an absolute chokehold!!
Jamie was just the breath of fresh air Calvin needed.
The chemistry. The tension was instant and thickened with every page turned.
The banter was e๐๐พve๐๐พry๐๐พthing!๐๐พ My goodness, it was just so freaking good!!
Watching a grump have every wall broken down and falling in love is some of my favorite kind of kindle crack. Against all his resistance, Calvin fell undeniably and irrefutably hard. Jamie was right there beside him. He and Jamie as the quote goes, โfell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly, and then all at once.โ These two were so set against anything involving the L word and of course, thatโs when it hits the hardest, the truest and the deepest. And I felt every single bit of it.
Leave it to Jewel to have me going from busting out laughing to gasping out loud in shock to eyes full of tears.
I always go into a JEA book with my heart wide open and as emotionally prepared as possible. But, rarely is it ever enough. One thing about Jewel, she is not afraid of the unconventional. She is not afraid to make it hurt. She is the Queen of the expect the unexpected. From Air fit right into her unparalleled repertoire. I loved every minute, every second and hated to see it end.

Tropes to expect here:
- Firefighter (smoke jumper) MMC
- Psychiatric Nurse FMC
- Age Gap (he's 35, she's 25)
- Roommates
- Enemies to Lovers
- Grumpy x Sunshine
- Tragic Past
- Lots of Angst
- One EPIC Plot Twist
If I were to dream up the perfect entrance into the world of Jewel E. Ann's writing, this book could not be more of a solid way to crash through those gates.
I went into this book completely blind. I thought the cover models were cute (lol) and applied for the arc on a whim one day. Having never read this author before, I had no expectations or ideations of what I would like to get out of this read, and I certainly never expected to love this as much as I did.
This author writes about grief, trauma and the subsequent healing so perfectly. It's so magical when an author can make you feel the raw emotions their characters are portraying on page. That feeling of a fist around your heart is a cruel but incredible treat.
Calvin and Jaymes are both larger than life characters with complexity woven throughout. I felt an instant pull to both of them which meant I knew I wouldn't come out of this read unscathed. Their enemies to lovers storyline was full of hilarious banter filled moments, and you could really feel their undeniable chemistry oozing from the pages. The perfect transition into a "will they won't they" dynamic left me so giddy and so very frustrated with them at the same time. What. A. STRONG.Couple.
The friendship group has me in a chokehold and I cannot wait to read the next instalment of the Wildfire series. The love and deep rooted 'found family' vibes between them is so precious, I have no doubt that the rest of this series is going to be just as incredible.
Needless to say, I just added another stellar read to my infinity star and 2024 favourites list. Impeccable.

I had no idea what i was getting myself into when I started this book, it was very addictive. The hate filled banter between Jaime and Calvin was just so good. Had a little mystery which was great to read, was not expecting this plot twist.

This is a new to me author, the tropes and cover sold me and those donโt even do justice on how much I loved this book. I read this in less then 24 hours and simply canโt wait for the next one. Infinity stars and on my top 5 reads of the year.
If that doesnโt sell you enough Jaymes moves her home in Florida to make her own way into new adventures, which leads her to Montana. She finds a room for rent for her short stay and it is a bit different then se anticipated. One of her roommates, is a grumpy smokejumper Calvin (Fitz), who isnโt quick to open up to anyone due to his troubled past.
This delivered swoon worthy moments, top tier banter, and amazing side characters. This had me giggling, and even had me tearing up and kept me guessing throughout the entire read. I simply canโt wait for book two and until then will be hitting Jewels backlist soon!

FAVORITE BOOK OF THE YEAR!

Fantastic banter, characters you canโt help but fall in love with, and deep emotions etched into the pages. Jamie and Calvinโs story was both angsty and filled with humor. Itโs been awhile since a story effortlessly tugged on my heartstrings and made me laugh like this one. I loved the forbidden romance, forced proximity, and tragic elements that all collided.

From Air was truly unputdownable. A unforgettable journey of hope, healing, and learning itโs okay to dreamโฆgrabbing ahold of those dreams and never letting go.

I picked this up for this solely for the tropes, having never read anything by Jewel E. Ann before and it was everything I hoped it would be!
This book is one of the best I have read for top-tier banter and amazing humour. The witty interactions between the main characters, as well as their roommates, colleague and friends just hooked me immediately. It was fresh, funny, flirty. Full of the camaraderie you expect when relationships are forged through high-pressure situations. And this is why Iโll read every book to come from this series!
Travelling nurse Jaimie moves into a house with 3 first responders, and one of the house rules is no hook-ups between roommates. But sparks immediately begin to fly when she is introduced to roommate #3 - smoke-jumper Calvin โFitzโ Fitzgerald, who is instantly abrasive and closed off. Where Jaimie is upbeat and optimistic, Fitz is grumpy and enigmatic. I had so many laugh out loud moments at their quick-witted interactions. Right from the beginning, they both gave as good as they got and the banter quickly turned flirty. Their undeliable chemistry lead to delicious tension and when that thread snapped, we were treated some steamy, secretive spice.
Although I was initially pulled in by the humour, the raw emotions I felt as the story progressed are what made this book stand out for me. There was so much more against them than the โslightlyโ forbidden โno hookupsโ rule. This story took some unexpected, emotionally-charged turns, that had me crying into my pillow at 1am. These two deserved their HEA so much, and I was rooting for them until the very end.
This is one of the best contemporary romances Iโve read in a long time. No gimmicks, just a beautifully written story of two people finding their person.

Omg this was incredible!! This was easily up there with one of my favourite romance reads this year. I couldn't put it down and devoured this in one sitting.
Everything delivered for me โ the romance was full of angst and the chemistry between these two was undeniable. The writing was so engaging, I fell completely in love with these characters at the very beginning. Calvin and Jaime had the best witty banter between them, I literally felt myself swooning. Oh, to be loved by Calvin!! I even had tears in my eyes by the end because they were so cute.
The found family was another highlight. I laughed out loud so any times. The humour was a welcome reprieve and balanced some of the heavier themes. I can't wait to read Maren's book - she's a real firecracker.
This is so much more than a romance novel - there's an added drama plot that kept me in engaged. My jaw hit the floor at one point, I did not see the direction the second half of this book took. This cruel twist of fate delivered so much emotion and turmoil to the story. Grief is also a heavy theme in this book and I loved watching these characters I grew to love heal.
I'll definitely be continuing this series and checking out this author's other work. I'm so glad I stumbled across this gem because I went in completely blind. I 10/10 recommend this if you love an angsty romance!!
Thank you Valentine PR, NetGalley, Montlake and the author for the advanced reader copy. Available now!

It has been a hot minute since I was able to read one of Jewelโs books, and Iโm so happy I was chosen to read From Air early. Itโs hard for me to read one a deadline these days with two littles running / crawling around, but I made the time when I saw I was able to read From Air early.
Jewel always makes her characters so interesting and finds some way to twist things at the end that you donโt quite seem coming when you start the book. Calvin, aka Fitz, and Jaymes are such opposites attract, and the banter these two ensure. Phew. It wouldnโt be a JEA book without traumatic pasts, and forbiddingness stitched in.
We have an age gap, firefighter and travel nurse, and roommate situation. Not to mention, Fitz has a serious commitment issue. The pages were on fire when the heat was turned up which is a good thing since he was a firefighter LOL
Iโm excited for the next book as always. I would read the back of the toilet bowl if JEA wrote something on it.

FROM AIR is the first instalment in Jewel E Annโs contemporary, adult WILDFIRE romance series. This is thirty-five year old smoke jumper Calvin โFitzโ Fitzgerald, and twenty-five year old psychiatric nurse Jaymes โJamieโ Andrewsโ story line.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Fitz and Jamie) FROM AIR follows psychiatric nurse Jamie Andrews as her latest contract takes her from Miami Florida to Missoula Montana where she will meet her future in the guise of smokejumper Calvin Fitzpatrick.
Jamie is a travel nurse, a position that in which she journeys from city to city , a position where her present will collide with her past, and in the ensuing spiral, break her heart in the process. Calvin โFitzโ Fitzpatrick is a smoke jumper, who lost everything more than twenty years earlier, and he has spent his adult life fighting the fires that destroyed his life but Fitz never expected to fall in love, let alone meet the woman who would control his heart, a woman whose own heart will be shattered by our story line hero.
The world building follows several interlocking pathways in which the reader is up close and personal with Calvinโs past, a past he is reluctant to reveal but a past that will pull our heroine into an emotional spiral. As Jamie finds herself falling for a man who doesnโt do relationships; a man who refuses to acknowledge the past, our heroine discovers not everything and everyone are who they claim to be.
The relationship between Jamie and Fitz is a โgrumpy-sunshineโ. Fitz struggles to move on from the past, as Jamie battles to uncover the truth about her own. Two people broken by loss, and the declaration of reality, mired in heartbreak and guilt. The $ex scenes are passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
There is a large ensemble cast of charismatic and colorful secondary and supporting characters including co-worker, friends and family. We are introduced to Calvinโs roommates tanker pilot Maren Bernabe, and thirty-seven year old Engine Chief / firefighter Will Landry; Jamieโs best friend back in Florida Melissa, as well as Jamieโs co-worker Dr. Everleigh and Betty OโNeil, and fellow firefighters Gary and Todd.
FROM AIR is a story of grief and loss, secrets and revelations, acceptance, forgiveness and love. The premise is twisted, heart breaking, emotional and dramatic; the romance is sensitive and moving; the characters are sassy, spirited and determined.

Something in the way.....
From Air is Jewel E. Ann's starter book for her new series, Wildfire, and I can't express in words how fantastic this story is!
Being a newbie to the author's work, let me just say that this book is one of those you can feel its phenomenality from the very begining! Love me some small town, blue collar, roommates-to-lovers romance!
Original, so very genuine and relatable is the connection between Jamie and Calvin, a psychiatric nurse and a smoke jumper, respectively, that happened in mysterious ways, for the simple fact of how different they were as individuals and the way they became so embeded in each other, bit by bit, conquering the other's heart with no promise beyond the present.
Jamie was a ray of sunshine, sensitive, good listener and way interested in her grumpy, very attractive and complex roommate, Calvin Fitzgerald. He was the enigma she wanted to crack, understand his thoughts, predicaments and internal qualms, a past weighting on his shoulders and self, one that molded the man as his job, without place for anything else.
He, one the other hand, was intrigued. For the very first time, Fitzy felt his blasรฉ demeanor crack before the bubly nurse, her honesty and straight shots, the promise of banter-lust, but never the hope. That wasn't on the agenda....
Physical and emotionally impactant, the narrative is a very expressive and vicarious experience where you can feel, through our protagonist's actions, reactions, expectations and certainities, the spectrum of wills and wants, thoughts and possibilities, inner turmoil and struggle between wishing for all and the volition to go against, because the grief is too much and the idea of submitting another being to that ominous weight, is simply not an option.
More so, in the great scheme of troubled things, one unexpected liason makes unsteady completly broken.......beyond any repair?
Well, time heals all wounds and makes the heart grow fonder, as the saying goes......... in this case, absolutely thirsty and consumed, because there is no better match than one made from air to earth, grounded, solid, indelible.
Flowing steady and direct with a great slew of secondary characters, earnest exchanges and cozy atmosphere, this is more than a simple love story, is about friendship, respect and comprehension, healing and letting go, and the hope that never died.
It's time for growth where the fire consumed...
"(...) Sometimes, for something beautiful to take to life and grow, everything around it has to be sacrificed. All we see is the destruction, but if you wait long enoughโ if youโre patientโmagic happens. (...)โ

Out of this world phenomenal!
This is my top read of 2024!!
Go in blindly and I promise you wonโt be disappointed!
This author never disappoints with her passionate though provoking and creative writing. This story flowed beautifully and seamlessly as I entered the unpredictable journey of Fitz and Jaymes.
Fitz and Jaymes are a couple that youโll never forget!
These characters were each so likable so real sooo delicious! Sexy, over the top one liners, the banter between these 2 was priceless. Quirky, hilarious sexual tension, this insta attraction couple have the best one liners and the sweetest disposition.
Their chemistry is off the charts hot and the stars seemed aligned for these 2 to reach a happily ever after. However, this author is not the easy get happily ever after kind of author. There are obstacles in the form of deep dark secrets that keeps them from taking their friendship further. Unexpected twists and unimaginable painful secrets a put this story on a whole other level.
What are they?
As the story evolved, I never imagined what direction this story would take and what the outcome would be.
I was so invested in this story, and finding out what would happen I could not put this book down.
This is a profound story of love, forgiveness and second chances. A story that really puts into play the question of whether or not telling the truth is better than living a lie.
Discovering their secrets and finding how it all unfolded made this story worthy of all the stars!
