Super cute, adorable but with an interesting element of being able to live in an alternate world you wished for (with a cool, magical necklace!). Anna was very relatable and likeable as a character. The author is a good writer and makes it easy to fall into Anna and Max's world as a fun escape from our own. Speaking of, there is a paragraph about feeling like you're living life everyday at the edge of a landmine, and I related deeply to that. Whimsy and light reading at it's best!
NOTE: I am copying my review of the audiobook version of this book.
I sincerely hope that Sarah Ready continues to write more books in this series! They have become my absolute favorites. I'm typically a mystery lover, so this novel, a combination of fantasy and romance, is unique. But it is so enjoyable to follow the story. As is typical of Ready's stories, this one takes a character from the previous novel and puts them at the center of a new story. However, that's not to say one must have read the previous book. This one stands alone quite effectively. Max, the wealthy owner of a jewelry business in Geneva, is alone after being rejected by his life-long friend who chose another man. Anna is a woman who cleans his house and has a big crush on him. But their circumstances don't favor their getting together. One day, however, Anna discovers a jewelry box with a letter that states the necklace has the power to grant wishes. So Anna wishes for Max to love and marry her. What results is a confusing mixture of comedy and romance. You won't want to stop listening to this audiobook til you get to the end! Loved this book!!!
Thanks to NetGalley and Swift & Lewis Publishing LLC for providing an advance review copy of this book. My opinions are my own.
It is a good story, though I wished I had read the previous books beforehand.
However, this has some fairytale vibe to it, wish upon a star. It was good to have the contrast of what she though she wanted and what she really wanted,
Are you ready to have all you wish for? No matter the cost?
I’m not I would be.
It’s a solid 3 stars from me. 🙂
This was a truly lovely story. I couldn’t set this one down. The characters were so dynamic and captivating that I needed to know how their story ended.
The was an excellent rom-com! I’ve seen movies like this before but this is the first time I’ve read a book where a wish has changed the life of the main characters. I loved how both Anna and Max remember their original life, but also have memories of what their life had been like in the “wished” for life. I think that’s what adds to the romance, they are enemies in the original life, but they remember the love and romantic times in the “wished” life.
So disappointing.
This is book 4 in the series and can be read alone but you’ll want to read Fated before Wished so you know the background on Max Barone.
I loved the previous book in the series and was anxiously awaiting the release of this book so I’m very disappointed. I didn’t finish due to way too much content. It’s like this was written by a different person because it has a completely different feeling - the emotions and magic are gone.
Max isn’t romantic or passionate. His relationship with Anna doesn’t have any depth, it is all sexual and not loving but forceful. He’s creepy and possessive and in her words, a predator (end of ch 18.)
I loved the previous book but unfortunately not this one. Thanks to Swift & Lewis Publishing and NetGalley for an advance digital copy to use for my review.
I have loved this series, each book is so unique and I love the magical elements added in! This one was super sweet, I adored Max in the last book and I'm so glad he got his happy ending! Anna was a little spitfire, and I love that she didn't take shit from Max, I was so heartbroken for her throughout the book, she had to make some really hard decisions but she handled them beautifully and was so selfless! These books give off 90s to early 2000s romcom vibes and it's delightful, Sarah Ready is an instant read for me!
I love Sarah Ready’s books so I was excited she had another one out. This is another magical book. Anna dreams of being married to Max. She is a house cleaner and Max is one of her clients. One day her wish appears to come true when she wakes up married to Max. What has happened? Is this actually her life now? You will need to read this one to find out!
I couldn’t get into the story just as I thought. Not disappointed but need more depth, I think. I can't remember when was the last time when I read a book in which the whole plot was 100% equal to what was written in the blurb and nothing more. There was no surprise there, no resolution to any of the plot threads and the whole story was blatantly predictable and painfully dull.
First of all, I would like to thank NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ebook in exchange for an honest review.
Wished is the fourth book in the Ghosted series written by Sarah Ready, in which opposites clearly attract each other. We follow Anna Benoit, a house cleaner who happens to have a huge crush on one of her clients, Max Barone, and who accidentally wishes on a magical necklace that they would be happily married. The books can all be read as standalones.
Before we get into the actual review, can we just appreciate the cover for one second? It is clearly what made me request this book on NetGalley.
I did not know what to expect from this book, and I have to say that it was a really nice and easy read, perfect for the holiday season.
It really felt like a loose Cinderella retelling mixed with The Princess Diaries to me (links to France and Switzerland, a wish that has been granted, rags to riches vibes). For some reason, the "Benoit" name reminds me of Cinderella, but I cannot, for the life of me, remember why, so that is going to remain a mystery. The plot was somewhat predictable, and the magical realism was a really nice and original touch in a contemporary romance. However, one thing I was not a fan of (and that I do not like in contemporary romance in general) is the insta love trope, because I often feel like the romance is rushed, in a way.
The female main character, Anna, was okay, but I absolutely hated Max, the male main character, at the beginning of the book.
I would recommend this book if you are looking for a quick and cute romance with magical realism.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC of this book in return for an honest review.
Anna is a low income woman living with her family to help ends meet until Max ruins it all. Can a wish turn things around for Anna or will her life be forever changed? This romance was sweet, spicy, and enchanting. Anna and Max compliment each other and defy odds. This fourth isn’t my favorite out of the series but was still a beautiful story. I highly recommend if you are looking for a romance with a bit of magic.
In Wished, Sarah Ready crafts a delightful, heartwarming romantic fantasy that takes readers on a journey of love, longing, and self-discovery. The fourth book in her Ghosted series, Wished follows the story of Anna Benoit, a housecleaner who is hopelessly, desperately in love with Max Barone, the enigmatic owner of the luxurious chateau she works in. Anna is a true romantic at heart—she believes in "The One" and "Love at First Sight" because, to her, it’s not just a fairytale—it happened to her the moment she laid eyes on Max.
But there's a catch—Max, the wealthy owner of a jewelry empire, doesn’t know she exists. Their worlds are completely different, and Max is oblivious to Anna’s feelings. That is, until Anna makes a wish. What follows is a magical twist of fate: when she wakes up, Anna finds herself in a world where she and Max are not strangers, but instead, a married couple, living a life of romance, passion, and devotion.
At first, Anna is swept up in the whirlwind of a life she’s always dreamed of—a life where she’s loved by the man of her dreams. But as she navigates this new reality, she begins to question whether the life she’s wished for is really everything she imagined. Is Max's love real, or is it just the result of a wish gone awry? And more importantly, can she build a future with him when the foundation of their relationship is based on a wish, not mutual discovery?
Wished is a charming exploration of love and fantasy, with a dose of magical realism that will appeal to readers who enjoy romance with a twist. The concept of a wish that turns Anna’s life upside down provides an intriguing backdrop for the story, blending fantasy with relatable themes of longing and personal growth.
💜🩵 Book Review- Wished by Sarah Ready 💜🩵
What would you do if your deepest wish suddenly comes true??
That's exactly what happens in this beautiful book.
Anna is a sweet girl who works for our male protagonist, Max a wealthy successor of a jewellery empire!
This books takes a beautiful take on one -sided love and a lovely alternative of "what if??"
And the best and beautiful part is.....the picturesque description of the locations... honestly I felt I toured around the locations by sitting at home
@sarahreadyauthor this is my first read of yours and it definitely left deep and profound place in my heart 💜
Thanks a lot and infinite @netgalley to give me an opportunity to read a great 5 star Read of the month-october
It always takes me a second to figure out which character is the focus of the new book in the Ghosted series, but it took me a minute or two to figure it out this time because my brain was not working. Once I figured out who we were focusing on, the story took off. I love that Anna and Max kept trying to cancel the original wish.
As always, I look forward to reading the next book in the Ghosted series. They are a fun, romance read, with the perfect amount of spice.
Wished was a relatively quick read and I enjoyed most of it. The premise was intriguing, especially how Max was aware of the wish; it added a refreshing twist to the story. However, I didn’t love how Anna seemed to push herself onto Max and then spent much of the book feeling guilty about it. It also felt inconsistent that one day Max was angry about the wish and wanted Anna to undo it, but by the next morning, he was suddenly curious to know more about her. I would have preferred to see more of his frustration and a gradual progression toward understanding her. Instead, his change of heart felt rushed.
Additionally, the writing had some pacing issues. Certain scenes were overly detailed which distracted from the story and made it easy to lose track of the chapter’s purpose, while others lacked enough description to feel fully immersive. While the concept was strong, I think the execution needed more development. Overall, it was enjoyable but it left me wanting a bit more.
This series is such a breath of fresh air. They are magical, romantic, a little spicy and great escape from reality. The romantic settings are a perfect backdrop to the heart breaking romances that find the characters struggling with choices and fighting their feelings. This one was no exception, Max and Anna’s story was heart warming.
I have never read anything by this author before, but I really enjoyed this book. I will be looking out for this author in the future and will be recommending it. This book is a great addition to any library.
SARAH DOES IT AGAIN! She makes you fall in love with two characters, have no idea how they're connected, but you somehow don't exactly know how/if you even want them to end up together, all before throwing a massive plot twist/reveal and wrapping things up in the most loving bow. Fan for life if you can't tell.
A great ending to the "Ghosted" series. In this book we follow Max, and Anna, his housecleaner. But after a wish goes awry Max and Anna end up married, with Max having vague memories of it and Anna having none. It was really interesting watching this love story play out as they spend a good portion of the book trying to undo the wish. I loved this so much and the epilogue has a very special place in my heart. Not going to lie I definitely bawled at parts of this book. I look forward to reading whatever Sarah Ready does next!
Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review.
This was my first book from Sarah Ready and I was curious about it. The synopsis sounded so promising and I actually had a great time reading it.
The fact it has a bit of fantasy with Anna's wish just made it better. The insta love aspect wasnt a totally let down as I enjoy fast paced books for a comfortable weekend read.
I enjoyed Sarah's writing and the fact that it has small chapters. (It gives us the idea we are reading the book super fast xD)
I wasnt expecting it to be this spicy, so I would add two peppers.
