The wealthy Agarwal family meet in eldest sister Myra's deserted Scottish to celebrate the parents' anniversary, and the retirement of their father. We learn that this seemingly perfect family are hiding a tragic past, and each member has their own secret that their keeping from the family.
What a brilliant book! So many twists and turns all the way through. The backstory on the suffocating family dynamic is really well written, and the final reveal of what happens is shocking but not completely out of left field. This book is perfect for those who like a good mystery story set on a deserted island, you'll be hooked!
Thank you to Netgalley and the publishers for the ARC of this book.

A fantastic family drama featuring a wealthy and eccentric family. I absolutely loved the drama and dark secrets and the fabulous Scottish setting. A perfect, murder mystery for winter 🖤

This was absolutely everything I wanted it to be! A mega rich family, an uninhabited Scottish island, a storm, a murder! Family secrets, love, revenge, guilt! Money!!
You could want for nothing more with this book. It does exactly what it says. It’s all about inheritance….
Brilliantly done!
My thanks to Netgalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for the advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

I finished the book in one sitting and let me tell you, it was a wild ride. I didn't see the twists coming, and the ending is one of the ones that stays with you long after finishing the book.
I can't tell much without spoilers but my god, this was not what I was expecting, I loved it and hated it at the same time. It was amazing, I'm going to read more books by Trisha for sure.

The Agarwals meet on Myra's Scottish Island to celebrate their parents 40th Wedding Anniversary, where the three offspring expect news of the sale of their father's company and their share of the inheritance.
For anyone looking in, they would think this is the perfect family, all supportive and looking out for each other, but they all hold their own secrets, some more deadly than others. Will their greed cloud their judgement and who will come out on top.
This is a locked room mystery, with a difference, it's a well written book that kept me reading, even without the huge suspense, it's about family dynamics and the lengths families go to protect their own and their secrets, all while being engaging and raw.
I wouldn't say the family are particularly likeable and as a thriller, it's not edge of your seat, but there is something about the clever way this is written that teases out the story, and really made me enjoy this book.
Thank you NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC.

It's not very often that a book knocks me for six and completely blindsides me. This novel did that and much more.
The Agawal family have descended on a remote Scottish Island to celebrate the anniversary of Mama and Papa. But also to decide how Papa is going to divide the inheritance when his business is sold.
Son Aseem has been overseeing everything so expects a bigger share than his sisters. He's there with his wife Zoë who has her own reason for wanting the money.
Older sister Myra, owns the island, and is investing a lot of money to make it a successful retreat, money she hasn't got. And youngest sister Aisha, the baby of the family, well she just treats the week like one big holiday as per her view on life.
By the end of the stay, the families life's will be changed forever.
The family were truly dysfunctional, they were all great characters but all unlikeable in their own way. I felt for Zoë at times as she was the outsider who married in and never truly felt welcome
I could definitely imagine this as a TV series. It gives off Succession vibes, a family who dislike each other but also hates anyone coming between them.
A fabulous read
I will leave my review on Goodreads, Storygraph and Bookmory now and on Amazon and Waterstones on publication day

Love, control, greed - this book had them all! We know there has been a murder from the start of the book but who is the victim and what is the motive? An intricately woven web of deceit, with lots of potential murderers and a multitude of twists and turns. Watch out for this book - it's a great read!

Thank you to NetGalley and Random House UK, Cornerstone for letting me read The Inheritance by Trisha Sakhlecha. What a page turner, I was captured from the first page. With so many twists and turns you are kept guessing until the last page. Worthy 5 star read.

This was not my normal read but what a fabulous one it turned out to be. A family with secrets and grudges bubbling below the surface while on the face of it happily coming together for celebrations. All of them hoping for a cut of their fathers millions as he decides to retire. But all is not as it seems and bitterness begins to show and the the truth is exposed. A page turner that I couldn't put down, with a twist at the end. Loved it!

Family dynamics are often upset when someone is writing or updating a will and the eager potential gift receivers line up ready to do what it takes to reserve their share. Always, however, it’s not as easy and straightforward as it appears with each party vying to suggest they have reasons to take a larger slice of the pie and as soon as possible. This excellent story understands the people involved, the many reasons for their own point of view and of course, there’s always a spanner in the works when it’s a novel. The writer then adds confusion by basing this within a very rich family, who may not be as rich as they hope, and mixes in Indian and British cultures to divide and rule. Can the mother and father remain in control? When this outline is set on a remote Scottish island where there appears to be an uninvited guest roaming the woods, trouble will arrive. Trisha Sakhlecha develops an excellent story; I can’t see how she will follow up this as a series, but I’ll be there soon to read her two previous thrillers.

Zoe and Asheem are heading to the remote Scottish island that Asheem's older sister Myra bought to renovate and live on. Their parents and younger sister Aisha are also on their way. They are all prepared to celebrate their parents 40th wedding anniversary. Although the children have other reasons for being there. They are waiting for their father to announce his retirement and the sale of his company, leaving the children the money from the sale. All three of them are desperate for that money for different reasons. But when their father make a surprise announcement, it leaves them spiralling. Tensions rise, arguments start and lines are drawn. But then someone dies...
This was incredibly slow to start with, and it felt like it was no more than a family drama. I thought about giving up with it, as I'm not interested in that kind of story. However, I'm glad I continued because it ended up becoming about a murder. Although, I felt like there could have been more about that, as even with that, it still focused mostly on the dynamics of this family. The twist at the end was the only reason this became a 4* review rather than a 3*

I loved The Inheritance - with PoV and the reflections of a murderers interweaved into the narrative, your attention is grabbed from the opening page. Well worth a read.

Trisha Sakhlecha presents an addictive novel shrouded in mystery and suspense.
The plot takes place on an island belonging to Myra the daughter of the wealthy businessman Papa. The family have gathered to celebrate the 40th wedding anniversary of their parents. There is also the small matter of the business, worth a cool 300 million, which they hope Papa will sell giving them all an injection of cash and independence: their inheritance. Myra has split up from her husband Owen and desperately needs the money to turn the island into a retreat. Aisha, the fun loving 27 year old with a perchance for picking the wrong guy just wants to settle down with or without her parents approval while Aseem the reliable and diligent son, has promised his wife Zoe independence once the sale goes through. They too have reasons for celebrating.
At the outset we are told there is a body in the woods and assume there will be a murder involving one of the family or their guests. However Sakhlecha’s skill in creating suspense and atmosphere succeeds in making everyone a possible culprit. We are kept in the dark as to who the victim is or for that matter the murderer until she decides. Instead we are treated to the complex and spoilt lives of the rich and famous. Aisha’s chancer boyfriend Gabe brings up the family tragedy, a taboo subject that allows for a sub plot, which is interlaced perfectly as it draws us further down into the mystery.
Papa and Mama are the manipulative parents who scheme and play with their children all in the name of family, but who are they really protecting.
A thoroughly enjoyable read and one I highly recommend. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ahead of publication.

Not my usual kind of book but I ate this book up! It is so beautifully written and truly a masterpiece

The Agarwals own a private island off the coast of Scotland which has been a source of pain and money loss for the family. There are plans for its future but it will either return the family to their former closeness or see them irrevocably torn apart? Each family member returns to the island at the invitation of Raj, the patriarch and business tycoon, to learn about their futures. Not every one will make it off alive, however.
I adored how this story was set up. Every character had as much to gain as they had to lose by the outcome of their return to the island. Each one seemed capable of inflicting pain to all the others and so when a murder was announced I was equally suspicious of all of them.
The storyline seemed to meander slowly for some time, but this was a clever misdirection by the author, as I never saw the conclusion coming or the multiple twists that were delivered along the way to it. Each was suspect yet all had alibis. Each was guilty, but of what remained to be seen for some time.
This was a clever and unsettling story and I really enjoyed my time with it. This is an author I will definitely return to!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to the author, Trisha Sakhlecha, and the publisher, Century, for this opportunity.

A solidly written but predictable thriller thatis more about the darkness of secrets and family ties than tbe mystery it is pitched as. Sakhlecha shows promise with her character work but her plotting remains a work in progress.

Wow I loved this, so twisty and I couldn't put it down. I liked that this was based on an Indian family as it made it a bit different to the norm. The ending was great as I was expecting papa to be murdered not Zoe. I get it was very well executed and I've glad I've read it

I liked the premise of the book - how far you are prepared to go for family, what guilt can make you do and who you can really rely on - and the dual perspective we get with Zoe and Myra. It shows how differently they see the members of the family and what role they play in the family dynamic.
Myra is the eldest of the three Agarwal siblings, a retired lawyer and now the proud owner of a Scottish island where the family reunion is being held. Her husband (whose name is Owen, a TRAUMA surgeon who was in the war - Greys Anatomy anyone?) tries to win her back by cutting her off, yeah that would totally work on me. Her sister Aisha, the youngest, brings her latest boyfriend to the reunion, who is not exactly welcomed with open arms. The middle child and only son Aseem is the husband of Zoe and oh boy is he bad at that job. He's a momma's boy through and through and even though we get an explanation later in the book as to why he is that comitted and loyal to his mother, I still hate him and can't get over it. Zoe is quite miserable and just wants to start a family of her own. There's only one thing stopping her, and that's Shalini. Oh how I hate that woman with a passion. She truly is a monster in law and everybody is enabling her. The father was also pretty annoying but also pretty predictable.
All in all, I still thought it was a good thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat until the last page.
This is a Netgalley arc review. Thank you to the publisher as well as Netgalley for the advanced copy of this book!

Although a bit bit of slow burner, it is well worth sticking with this book. Beautifully written and truly a masterpiece.

One of the best books I’ve read this year! It brought out so many emotions in me and I absolutely loved it. Put it on your ‘to read’ list – you won’t be disappointed. Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for the early copy.
