I really enjoyed this book, i started reading it at 11pm and couldnt go to sleep until i finished it which was at 03.54am.
Tells the tale of Lucinda and Benedict, both Witches but one is from a good line and one if from a dark line. When Lucys mother announces plans to retire as the high priestess, both Lucy Benedict are nominated to take her place. Sadly for the witch community they hate each other and are always using their elemental magic against each other. The coven decide that they must bind them (arranged marriage) together for the sake of the community at whole but things dont go according to plan and chaos ensues across the town leaving both of them struggling to come to terms with their magic and they feelings for each other.
I devoured this book, it was a perfect read, funny, romantic, slow burns, and lots of witchy history and pranks. Leads to a perfect set up for another book or 2, i think there are 2 directions it could go now, one involves benedicts brother and the other involves Lucys friend Rosie. Either way i would read the sequel.
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book. 5/5!

Very lighthearted and cozy. God knows I love a good enemies-to-lovers story. It took me longer to read than other books like it likely because I had trouble connecting to the characters. Still very cute!

Yes!!! Loved this read!!! Everything about this book was just it from the storyline to the cover one of those books you want to keep reading more

This was such a cute, cozy read. I absolutely loved the banter between the main characters and setting was so beautiful, I felt like I was transported by Kate Callaghan and her writing. Lighthearted and sweet, it was great read and I really appreciate the opportunity to read this from NetGalley and the publisher.

I find myself really enjoy the whole things about this book. I laugh and tear at the same time, absolutely in love with the fun story. I love the writing style, it's captivated me. And I can't wait to read the second book already because there so many things need to have further explanation. Once again, I am hooked by this book.
Thank you Netgalley and CallaghanWriter for providing me the ARC and thank you so much to the author for writing this book!

3 stars.
Thankyou Netgalley for the opportunity to read this arc. Expect an honest, unbiased review from me, always.
A solid read. Good storyline, good back story and characters. Just a little but too predictable for me and whilst it was cute, the frenemies to lovers, the pranks and the wit between the 2 protagonists, I just did not find myself loing it. Could not really find myself utterly hooked. Unsure why. But still a good read.

Kate Callaghan created a magical fantasy/romance with two intriguing main characters! They both want the same thing and will do what it takes to achieve their goals. In this enchanting story with spells and magic, one's imagination is brought to reality. A fun enemies-to-lovers plot that had me wanting to read more in this genre.

This was fine. A fun read but it took a little time to get into it. Still super cute and romantic. Very funny. Would still reccomend. Mostly personal preference, cute story

Potions and Proposals is a delightful blend of romance, magic, and charm that feels like a warm cup of tea on a rainy day. Kate Callaghan brings together enchanting worldbuilding and swoony, slow-burn romance with just the right dash of humor and heart. The characters are lovable, the chemistry sparkles, and the magical touches add whimsy without overpowering the emotional core. I absolutely adored it—and I’m already recommending it to everyone who loves cozy fantasy with a romantic twist.

Potions and Proposals is an incredible mix of romance, magic, and whimsy that is perfect for light hearted paranormal romance lovers. It's both charming and fun, with just the right amount of magical chaos to keep things interesting.
The story follows Marigold, a talented young witch who works in a magical apothecary shop, brewing potions and navigating the ups and downs of her enchanted life. Things take a turn when she’s caught in a whirlwind romance with a charming (and slightly mysterious) man named Finn, who’s got secrets of his own. As the sparks fly between them, Marigold finds herself balancing her magical duties with her growing feelings for Finn and there’s no shortage of potions, spells and thrilling moments along the way.
What really stands out in this book is the author's ability to blend humour and heart effortlessly. The chemistry between Marigold and Finn is amazing, and their banter had me laughing out loud. There’s a great balance between light hearted moments and deeper, more emotional moments that add depth to the story. It’s the kind of book where you’re smiling one minute and getting all swoony the next.
The magical world building is also a lot of fun. The witchy elements feel fresh and exciting, and there isn't a swarm of unnecessary details. You get just enough of the magical world to feel immersed, but it never distracts from the romance at the heart of the story.

This was one of my favorite reads of 2024! I had such a fun experience keeping up with the chaos and excitement that surrounded Lucinda and Benedict. I grew attached to them both as characters and loved the world development tremendously. I would love to follow the story of the reaper and his girl that he has a special eye for. All in all, this was an easy read that I thoroughly enjoyed! I cannot wait to read more of this author!

Unfortunately, I struggled to finish this book. I found the characters one dimensional and hard to like. But, the premise and the plot were really creative and entertaining. Overall, I just wanted to see better editing that may have helped guide the author in giving more depth to her characters.

A cosy witchy romance, for those of you that love a rivals to lovers trope. Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me as I like books with a bit more grit.
But if you want to curl up in bed with a coffee and a book, this may be for you.

Hawthorn and Benedict Matherson, who have known one another all their lives, and have been pranking each other all that time. The story opens on Matherson Manor, a recently opened hotel, having a crisis with piranhas in the goldfish pond (which turn to butterflies when touched). Benedict hopes to turn the new hotel into an attraction in the village, but this will mean that an unfavourable review will mean the opposite. Lucinda is responsible, but its in retaliation for something Benedict did to her earlier.
This 'tit for tat' is driving Benedict's mother mad, and when Lucinda's mother decides to step down from her role as high priestess of the coven, Gwendoline steps in to make sure it doesn't happen again, to this end she states that Lucinda and Benedict are to be bonded and run the coven together.
What happens next is a tale of switched magic, grimoire reading and spell casting. This story is a page turner as we find out what disaster happens next and how Lucinda and Benedict try to make it better.
A good world setting, without to much info dumping. Good supporting characters, some of whom have their own tales to tell.
I enjoy Kate Callaghans writing, witty and humorous, with good rounded protagonists. I'm off to find the next book in the series.

Potions and Proposals by Kate Callaghan is a charming, magical rom-com that effortlessly blends romance, humor, and just the right amount of whimsy. This delightful novel centers around a quirky protagonist who is both relatable and lovable, navigating her personal and professional life in a world filled with magic and unexpected twists.
Callaghan’s writing is engaging and fun, with a lighthearted tone that makes the story easy to get lost in. The world-building is one of the standout features of the book—Callaghan creates a magical universe that feels both unique and immersive, with potions, spells, and magical creatures adding layers of intrigue and excitement to the plot. The magical system is well thought out and woven seamlessly into the characters' daily lives, making it feel like a natural part of the world rather than an afterthought.
The protagonist is a great blend of endearing and relatable. Her journey, both in terms of her magical abilities and her personal growth, feels genuine and full of heart. The romance that develops throughout the book is sweet and slow-burning, and the chemistry between the leads is undeniable. One of the highlights of Potions and Proposals is the humor—there are plenty of witty exchanges and light-hearted moments that keep the tone fun without sacrificing the emotional stakes. The pacing is spot on, and while the plot might be predictable at times, the journey is so enjoyable that it doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
For fans of lighthearted, magical romance with a touch of humor and heart, Potions and Proposals is a delightful choice. Kate Callaghan has crafted a feel-good, enchanting read that will leave readers smiling and thoroughly entertained. *Potions and Proposals* by Kate Callaghan is a whimsical and enchanting tale filled with magical mishaps, romantic tension, and plenty of humor. Lucinda Hawthorne and Benedict Matherson's rivalry-turned-romance is captivating, as their personalities clash and their magical bond grows unexpectedly strong. The mystical setting of Foxford, with its coven rituals and magical intrigue, provides the perfect backdrop for their journey of self-discovery and reluctant attraction. Callaghan expertly blurs the lines between love and hate, creating a story full of chemistry and charm. While some elements feel predictable, the magical mishap and the characters' evolving relationship keep things fresh and engaging. A delightful read for fans of magical romance with a twist!

What a heartwarming mix of magic and romance. Set in the charming town of Foxford, the story follows Lucinda Hawthorne, an ambitious translator, and her rival Benedict Matherson, who are forced into a magical binding ritual. As their rivalry turns into something more, their chemistry is both fun and heartfelt.
The book shines with its cozy setting and engaging characters, making Foxford feel like a character in its own right. Callaghan's witty writing keeps the story light and enjoyable, with enough magical intrigue to keep readers hooked.
Perfect for fans of magical romances, Potions and Proposals is an enchanting, feel-good read that will leave you smiling.

A cozy and whimsical rivals to lovers witch romance. It's a fun and light, magical read with likable, if sort of one dimensional, characters.

This was a fun, quick spooky season read! I enjoyed the cast of characters and the wonderful town of Foxford. It was a great cozy fantasy, but still had an interesting plot. Benedict and Lucinda were fun main characters, except when they were being infuriatingly immature. There is definitely room for some growth there and wish we had seen more of them together. Overall it's great for the vibes!

This book had so much potential but didn’t quite live up to it for me. I found the main character slightly lacking but overall I enjoyed it.
