I bloody loved this book! There is so much nostalgia for the fanculture of 10-15 years ago. The friendship and relationship between Alex and Devin was funny and realistic. The whole story was a pure delight and I'm definately going to read more from Rosie Danan.

I have really enjoyed all of her other books. This one felt a little preachy to me. And I have a hard time reading a book that uses plural pronouns for singular people. It feels like the grammar is wrong which I don't enjoy. I wish I had waited to buy this book when it went on sale instead of right after it came out.

A warm hearted, joyous fast paced read that I was captivated by and completely fell in love with. Highly recommended.

A paranormal rom-com where werewolves, fandom drama, and reluctant allies collide, Fan Service is equal parts chaotic and entertaining—though not without its quirks.
✨ A washed-up actor with a werewolf problem 🐺 A fan forum queen who wants nothing to do with him 🎙️ A reluctant partnership that gets way too personal
Danan’s humour shines, and Devin’s midlife crisis meets supernatural disaster is wildly fun. Alex’s snark keeps things lively, but the fandom-heavy setup can feel overwhelming, and the romance takes a backseat to the werewolf antics.
If you love quirky paranormal rom-coms, reluctant allies, and a touch of chaos, this one is a fun ride—just don’t expect a deep dive into werewolf lore!

I LAUGHED, I CRIED, AND THEN I LAUGHED AGAIN SO HARD WATER CAME OUT OF MY NOSE.

OKAY, SERIOUSLY, this book is the best! LIKE GOAT LEVEL. The humour is perfectly crafted for anyone who has been in fandom spaces over the last 20 years, and everyone who has had a childhood crush on a swoonworthy actor never truly heal itself over.
Perhaps the greatest ever blend of outrageous humour and then self-reflection that had me getting misty eyed and weepy. Deserves to be on everyone's 2025 list.
Some notable quotes that stole my heart and my sanity:
- "One thing was clear: people here loved stories so much they wished they could abandon the real world to live inside them."
- "Apparently, the nerds who hung out on this thing had plenty of time to go back and forth about the finer details of self-lubricating assholes and male lactation but couldn't be bothered to dig into the basics."
-"She would become his werewolf Obi-Wan Kenobi"
- "A crush on a celebrity was best. Because it was impossible, you could fantasize about anything, unburdened by pesky details of reality. You could live out whole relationships like that, daydreams where you were always in control. Fiction lovers couldn't lead you." (Had me screaming into my pillow thinking about my 800K Kylo Ren fix-it fic that I've been writing for the past 5 years.)
-"Aftercare preferences (Devin's: cheese)."

Rosie Danan's BEST book yet, I think this was so fun, so relatable, so brilliant!!!! I loved this so much and I was definitely hesitant after not loving another Rosie danan book and not reading her fantasy before but she has found her VOICE!

This was such a fun read! We follow Alex, a bit of an outcast in her town, with a strong love for fandom and a hatred for an actor after he insulted her behind her back when she was a teen. The actor in question is struggling with finding roles and finds himself going through mysterious changes, and it turns out Alex is the only one he can turn to. Over time, they become a lot closer and their romance begins. I wasn’t keen on Devin as a character but I do think that he developed well over the course of the story. This was a really interesting concept and I think the author did a great job of executing it!

I found this book to be a good read, despite not normally being interested in books with paranormal topics explored. I think that an interest in these topics weren't necessary to still enjoy the plot and character development.
I felt like this was a hyperbole for the 2000s. Everything felt over-exaggerated in the best way and it made me giggle on occasion, especially Alex. I didn't particularly like Devin - I thought he was too immature and I didn't like his communication style to say the least, but the relationship progression between the two made up for it.
Overall a good read!

I really thought I’d have fun with this because the premise sounded so chaotic and silly, but it just didn’t work for me. i didn't like Devin at all, and I struggled to root for the romance because of it. There were a few cute moments, but overall, it fell flat. I did read Do Your Worst by Rosie Danan too and gave it three stars — so I guess her books are pretty hit or miss for me.
thank you netgalley and little brown book group for an arc in exchange for my honest review.

Rosie Danan is so fun!!! I have loved all of her books and this one was so much different than usual but still a major hit!!! Highly recommend this to everyone looking for something different in their romance!

This book was strictly average. Maybe it's my fault for having too high expectations but I wanted a lot more than we got. Not to say this is a bad book cause it isn't. It just isn't as good as I hoped it would be.

What would you do if your beloathed childhood crush became a werewolf?
I loved everything about Fan Service, from the exploration of fandoms to parental issues. I’ve never read a book with an accurate depiction of the internal workings of a fandom, and I definitely didn’t expect my first to be by Rosie Danan. The lore-building through wiki articles and tidbits of knowledge we get from Alex felt so satisfying, like we were experiencing the book in Devin’s shoes.
Not to mention how emotionally raw this book got, getting to know Devin deeper, and learning about his past and present self, the exploitation that came with being a child star, the loss of identity he feels.
Alex Lawson is the black cat, and rightfully so considering her past. I always love a good parent-child relationship in books, and Alex’s relationship with her dad was so sweet and healing. Devin Ashwood? He’s headstrong and just as stubborn as Alex, but when he starts leaning into his role of ‘friend’ to Alex, when he starts to accept his wolfish traits, I love how tender their moments together became.
This was a little bit slow burn, Alex recovering from the pain of meeting her ex-childhood crush who once inadvertently ruined her self-esteem, and Devin trying to get a grip of his Wolf. We got a couple of spicy scenes before the two become official, but they’re no less sensual than the spice that comes after. I think there were a total of 3-4 spice scenes in the last ~35%, so maybe it was a bit much (for me at least).
Final thoughts: This was my first Danan, and I can confidently say I will be reading more from her. I loved this book, even though it took me a little longer than anticipated to get through. I finished it off by listening to the audiobook and, holy damn, the audiobook just made it better.

This is my first book by the author and I really enjoyed it! It's sort of random but in a fun way and feels nostalgic if you're used to fan spaces. I really enjoyed the characters and the romance, I laughed a lot and it's a great twist on typical rom coms

This was fun!! High 3.5 stars from me!
This was my first Rosie Danan book and I quite liked it! The writing style was easy to follow and the author's sense of humour shined throughout the story. I liked Alex, and I related to her in a lot of ways because I was, and still am, a fangirl for movies, series, books, and bands, so I could see myself in her, especially during her teenage years. I think her attitude towards relationships, both friendly and romantic, was understandable because of her backstory, and I didn't find her very frustrating, which is sometimes hard with FMC. Towards the end, when the "third-act break-up" happens, she acted a bit immature towards both Devin and her friends. I liked Devin, he was sweet and charming once you went past the cover he put up. I found it very enjoyable that he was freaking out about what was happening to him, because it was a realistic and human reaction! I do think he came around to accept that he was a werewolf a bit quickly perhaps. I liked how Alex and Devin's relationship starts and develops, it didn't feel too rushed considering how often they hung out. I'm a sucker for all the "I'm constantly paying attention to your heartbeat", "I can tell what you're feeling", "I love your smell and it calms me" moments in a paranormal story so I was giggling and kicking my feet constantly throughout the story.
Unfortunately, my biggest issue with this book was the characters' ages. When I first saw that Alex was 35 and Devin was 42, I was quite excited because characters in romance novels tend to be a lot younger. However, I struggled to believe that they were that age, especially Devin, because he came across as someone in his twenties, not forties! I kept reminding myself that he was older and expecting that maturity to come through, but it just never came. Despite this, I still enjoyed the book, I read it very quickly, and I would read more by Rosie Danan!
Thank you to NetGalley, Little, Brown Book Group UK, and Rosie Danan for the opportunity to read an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

Fan Service is Rosie Danan's latest release, published in March. I had previously read and enjoyed "The Roommate" by this author, so requested this one on Netgalley when I saw it.
Despite the cartoonish cover, this is very much an adult romance/drama. The characters are in their thirties/forties - there is an age gap, but it's not a creepy one (he's 42, she's 34).
As the old saying goes, never meet your heroes - and that proves true for teenage Alex when she is disappointed by Devin Ashwood, star of her favourite werewolf detective series, The Arcane Files.
Despite her disappointment all those years before, Alex has maintained the online forum she created for the now-defunct TV show - nobody knows more about Arcane than she does. Not even Devin.
When Devin is caught behaving strangely in public, rumours of a reboot keep the public talking. But something strange is happening - and Devin can only think of one person with who may be able to help him - the elusive online forum owner known only as The Mod.
Unfortunately for Devin, The Mod is bitter, she's unimpressed with literally everything, and she grew tired of trying to fit in years ago - so why would she help this spoiled, arrogant, washed-up TV star?
It was refreshing to have characters who weren't questioning their entire life choices in their mid twenties (no offence to any mid-twenties questioners). I really got a handle on who both of them were as people, and I enjoyed that - I really liked them individually.
The whole werewolf angle? Meh. It was fine. It worked. If you're expecting another round of Ali Hazelwood's "Bride", don't. Think AO3 and Wattpad. This is, above all, a love letter to the fanfic girlies. This is an author who GETS fandoms. Her love and respect for them leaps off the page, and the little in-jokes and references strike the perfect balance between vague and niche - if you don't get them, they won't make you feel left out. But if you DO get them, you feel absolutely seen, and it's glorious.
Above all, this was FUN. It made me laugh, which isn't easy when you're a cynical elder millennial.

I enjoyed this book, I thought the dynamic between the MCs was really interesting and I loved how the FMC went from hating to understanding.
I would recommend this book to friends.

Fan service is a fun read with leads that FOR ONCE aren't in their early twenties. It was so refreshing to have a fun paranormal read where the main characters were developed in their career and life and had history and personality. They were fully rounded characters which I think you really got to understand as Devin was used to being seen on surface level as an actor.
I loved the werewolf aspect of the book - it had all the great tropes with scenting and possessiveness.
Alex was such a good example of a fangirl and why people get so involved in fandoms- and also why you can't judge a book by its cover. Tattoos, piercings, all black clothes... and I loved that at first this was so not Devin's type but as he got to know her he began to fall for her physical aspects too.
So many moments were just perfect. The sex scenes were just perfection!

This book was really fun. If you are or were a fan of supernatural tv shows then this book is for you! I loved the fan concept of the book and it was fun to read. I found the first 50% quite hard to get into but by the end i couldn’t put it down!

Fan Service by Rosie Danan is a fun and steamy paranormal romance that follows a former TV star and his former die hard fan as he juggles his near death career and a new struggle that leaves him transforming into a werewolf.
Devin was a formerly TV obsessed teen who was so dedicated to the show, that she moderated a highly popular forum that garnered a huge audience that shared in her passion. After meeting her hero at 17, and overhearing his rude and sparky comments about her, Alex leaves her obsession behind. Now, as an adult living as an outcast in her hometown just trying to survive while caring for her father, Alex no longer has time for her teen obsession as her job working with animals and other voluntary positions become her main focus. Despite the locals obvious dislike of her and the bad treatment she receives at the hands of those that surround her, Alex works tirelessly to support her local Community Centre that was a key part of her childhood when her mother was alive. Including raising funds for this, Alex supports local LGBTQ+ teens who may face similar challenges she did as a teen.
Devin is a down and out actor who gained immense popularity at the height of his career thanks to his role in a tv show. Now that his role is firmly left in the past, Devin is struggling to figure out his next plans when things don’t go his way. Extremely isolated and even more lonely after his agent drops him, Devin has a staggering transformation in public where he becomes a werewolf. With the public thinking its either a publicity stunt, a hoax or some breakdown on his part, Devin is desperate to figure out what exactly is happening to him and after playing the part of a wolf on tv for years, he turns to the trusted forum that kept viewers up to date on absolutely everything, including the lore behind his werewolf alter ego. This is where the two characters meet one another again and the pair try and figure out what is going on with Devin while becoming more intertwined in each other’s lives.
The premise was fun, the reunion between a former fan who holds a small grudge and the one who desperately needs help. I liked Alex’s character. She was strong and resilient and although she was hated by her community, and still aimed to help as many people as possible. Now, Devin is another story. I found that I kept forgetting that this man was supposed to be in his forties!! He read like a man in his twenties or thirties at a push. Whenever I did remember his age, it left me feeling icky. I think his character could have been closer in age to Alex and it would have suited the story much better. Rosie Danan writes great romance with a fun comedic undertone.
Thank you for the eARC!
