I loved Do Your Worst, so I was really excited to read another paranormal romance from Rosie Danan. Fan Service is SO fun! I loved everything about it. Exploring the silly side of fandom but also the deep and meaningful connections you can form through it, as well as the complexities of parasocial relationships that can form between celebrity and fan. Devin the washed-up former child actor turned werewolf, and Alex the misfit ex-superfan and wiki page mod are somehow a perfect match. If you've ever been into fanfic then this is 100% a Black Cat x Golden Retriever story. Watch out for the lemons too (IYKYK).

As a huge fan of Rosie Danan's previous titles, I was excited to get stuck into Fan Service. However, although I did enjoy the premise, I felt as though the characters were not fully fleshed our, their connected felt forced, and the pacing was a little off throughout the book.

The MMC in particular was just not for me. I didn't like his personality at all, he was immature for his age, and I felt like the issue between the FMC/MMC was just swept under the rug and forgiven.

This book definitely missed out on a few of the popular werewolf tropes and I feel like it would have been more enjoyable if it had them, although the tests were fun to read about I think that overall a lot more could have been done with the premise.

Don't get me wrong, people will LOVE this book - it just wasn't for me.

I was absolutely drawn in by the cover and the premise. The vibes were also *elite* very much Twilight/CW show/early 2000s coded.

However overall, I would summarise my reading experience and rating to this: I loved the writing but did not love the plot and characters that much.

Honestly hated the MMC, he was so immature and unnecessarily mean especially for his age. Personally don't love the age gap in this book. There was some character growth and the story did pick up about the halfway point. The romance itself I found I didn't really root for that much and don't know if they would have made it far beyond him being wired to love her because of his wolf. Wanted a bit more explained about the whole werewolf thing but that wasn't really addressed, just accepted.

It was a light paranormal romance and fun read.

Would not read again, however I would read whatever else Rosie Danan writes. This is my second book of hers that I've tried and I find that I really enjoy her witty writing and fresh ideas.

This felt like watching a trashy supernatural CW show from the 2010s meets fan fiction y/n, in the best way possible!

I flew through this in a few hours and thought it was a fun, paranormal romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Thoroughly enjoyable!

This is unlike all the paranormal romcoms I've read before, and that change was so refreshing. Devin becomes a werewolf in an otherwise normal world, and he's literally the only supernatural creature in it. When he finds himself reliving his character's story from his days playing the only werewolf in the world in a fan-favourite TV series, he needs the help of Alex, the former moderator of his series' fan forum to dig through the lore of the series and help him control his wolf. There isn't a wider supernatural plot beyond that, which meant that the story was super-focused on the two main characters, their relationship and on Devin's first month as a werewolf.

Devin isn't a perfect character by any means, and he can be insensitive to Alex, but the book does dig into that. Alex is a great character and I loved how she dealt with Devin's new normal using her knowledge as a fan and as a vet. I definitely connected to all the humour and detail about nerdy fandoms, both as a millennial and coming from a fanfic-reading and -writing background myself as a teenager. So I really appreciated Alex as a character!

I read this in one go today and just really enjoyed it. It stands out from other paranormal romcoms in a refreshing, more character-focused way but I still found it comforting in the way that a good paranormal romance hits me!
