A very interesting take on necromancy in a modern world. A fast-paced investigation of a murder that's almost a century past, with a chronically sleep-deprived main character and a curious set of side-characters.

"Heck McTyre , Necromanfluencer" explores a modern world without computers and social media, but with magic and magically-gifted individuals. The main character, Heck, is a necromancer, a person who can communicate with the dead. But he's also an influencer, who broadcasts his interactions with the dead via a magic plattform. But one day he finds an unmarked coffin, the contents of which will turn his everyday life upside down.

The pacing of this story was fast and enjoyable. It all takes places within 24 hours of the discovery of the coffin. Heck uses his magical abilities to find answers in very different ways, which keeps things interesting for the reader.

There is interesting lore about the afterlife and the magical system of this story. The humor and overall atmosphere was a bit reminiscent of "Corpse Bride", which was enjoyable.

Heck was a great character. This was a campy fun time and I’m looking forward to the next book. But, I do wish we got some more world building.

Dark, snarky, campy, addictive - and utterly satisfying! If you like off the wall with insidious snark this is a feast! Gotta root for Heck, no matter what he gets into, and you can't help but laugh about the "scittering murderous appendage". I am dying for the next one (heh heh).

I love Heck as a character. While there were humorous aspects to the book, it was creepy in parts. I enjoyed the plot twists. Thanks to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book

Did not read for not downloading the ARC before the archive date. Which breaks my heart because I was incredibly excited to read this book. Nevertheless, here's a 5 star rating for compensation. I do apologise for the inconvenience and the unprofessionalism; best of luck.

The title of the book drew me in (a necromanfluencer? amazing), and the start was very promising from the get-go. Heck is an interesting and fun character to follow. The few supporting characters we met along the way were also quite well-written, though no one really stood out to me. The main mystery was compelling and drew me in, though it kind of lost steam near the last third of the book when Heck was suddenly thrown into the Underworld with no warning or preamble to the reader.

A few bits of world-building were sprinkled throughout, though I would have preferred there to be more -- how did the Y2K incident suddenly bring back magic into the world? how did the Mirror Network work? A few more bits about Heck's necromanfluencer side hustle would've also been very welcome.

The ending was quite sudden and felt very unresolved to me. I know there will be another book, which I might read as well since I liked this one, but I would have liked some kind of resolution for book one that would still manage to whet the reader's appetite for book two. Instead, the ending seemed rather abrupt and unfinished.

Overall, this is still a very enjoyable book and a great short read, perfect for the spooky season. Book two is coming out in November, so have that one ready by the time you finish this one.

Thanks to #netgalley and #booksgosocial for letting me read this ARC.

⭐ - 2.5/5 - ⭐

Thank you #netgalley and #booksgosocial for the ARC of this book!

This was my first spooky book of spooky season, and I had a lot of fun. Heck is a cool character and the supporting characters are great. The pacing through most of the book kept me super interested and there were some really amusing moments.

I had a few issues with the world building. There were some random things added in that didn't really need to be there, like the Y2K thing and (even though it was leading into the next book) the Underworld thing. Honestly, I think this book could have been a shorter novella. Some things were both dragged out and not explained enough.

I rated it so low because the last quarter of the book I had a hard time getting though. It was very abstract and confusing.

If you're looking for a spooky romp to kick off the season, join Heck and his necromancer shenanigans.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with an E-ARC to review.
This does not in any way, shape or form alter my opinion or rating of this book,
I really liked the twists in this book and the humor. It is definitely not eerily creepy but it has elements in it that may be creepy, I loved the plot twist at the end of the book. This book does cover topics that may be sensitive to readers such as necromancy, clairvoyance, passing of loved ones, the afterlife etc. rating 4/5
