I am going to go four stars possible 3.5 tbf. This was the first Heidi perks book I have read. I was fortunate enough to be gifted a copy prior to publication next year by NetGalley. Grateful 🙏

I enjoyed the book and will certainly read more by this author. So….. first the negatives! I struggled at first as I am a huge thriller lover and my favorite authors in this genre I find write much more descriptively than Heidi perks, it is certainly less descriptive than writers I am used to. This for me is a negative. There were a fair few typo’s and grammatical errors throughout which I didn’t think was great when she is a well established author. They are what lost the star from me.

Now for the positives! I love the fact the twist leaves you open to speculation at the end. Perhaps it could leave the book open to a second story that follows on 🤔 in the future maybe! I could imagine the characters well, I found myself hating Dylan as I work in domestic abuse and it was playing out like that was the general of what was occurring initially. Then I went to hating on Izzy. Then I thought am I this judgmental 🤷🏻‍♀️😂.

The general story was good, it does leve you wanting to page turn to find out what’s happening next. That’s a sign of a decent book right! I will read more by this author and would recommend it :)

The way it played out flowed well and I would say it was medium on the gripping scale. It took perhaps a little while to get going but overall an enjoyable read and one I would recommend to others!

A good book by Heidi Perks. Lots of twists and turns but I saw the ending coming before I read about it which is why I only gave it 3 stars.

Thanks to net galley and the publishers for this arc.

A very interesting take on how far we would go for our children and if what we to be true actually is.

When issie goes travelling with her boyfriend her mother has doubts but doesn’t stop her, however when issue goes off radar she is convinced something has happened to her.

Follow the story that unfolds and find out who is lying.

As a mother having been through the teen daughter years I could really feel the anguish Jess felt when her daughter Issie meets and falls for Dylan and life takes a change. Having been a single mum with just the 2 of them Jess struggles to come to terms with giving Issie hwr wings to fly and was she right in having those doubts and struggles?!?! Sometimes mother’s intuition knows best!
Excellent thriller to read enjoyed it immensely.

A slightly different slant on controlling and manipulative relationships and the effect they have on everyone around them - these relationships are also not quite what they seem giving the book a different edge and an element of surprise.

Izzy is about to turn eighteen and is whisked off to Portugal to travel and explore. Jess, Izzy’s mum dislikes Dylan the boyfriend but doesn’t want to alienate her daughter by preventing her from going

When Jess doesn’t hear from Izzy in her birthday she becomes concerned, increasingly so as the days pass with no call. Jess reports her missing and flys out to Portugal - convinced that Dylan has harmed her.

A really good read with an element of surprise. An insightful look into family relationships

Someone is Lying by Heidi Parks had the potential to be a gripping domestic thriller, but overall it left me feeling a bit underwhelmed.
While the premise was intriguing and the multiple perspectives kept things interesting, the twists weren’t as shocking as I’d hoped, and the story became a bit of a drag to get through. The pacing felt slow at times, and I found it difficult to connect with the characters. Although I did enjoy seeing the varying impact the dads had on Issie and Dylan and how each mother expected the dads behaviours to affect their kids.
I really wanted to love this book, but it fell short of delivering the suspense and excitement I expected. Still a decent book that I would recommend to fans of Heidi Parks or slow paced thrillers. Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to read this ARC.

I absolutely devoured this.

Really easy to read thriller with the perfect amount of suspense.

Well written and constructed, well worth a read.

This was outstanding! I loved it. I did not expect that at all. The story was kind of heartbreaking having the two mothers describe this story. Wasn’t a fan of the podcast bits but it tied in so well. A mother’s worst nightmare come true. It felt very real reading this and it’s quite refreshing to read that it’s not always men and there is justice being done to the women as well.

Heidi Parks is adept at making her characters instantly like or dislikeable, only to have their realities completely contradict your first impressions.
Issie is lucky to have Jess searching and fighting for her after she disappears on holiday with her slightly suspect boyfriend, whose own Mother doesn't seem the least bit concerned about his complete silence.
However, when the plot changes from a missing person search by a desperate Mum to a hit and run investigation things get messy very quickly.
A great read- edge of seat stuff!

This book does not go the way I expected it too. Issie and Dylan go on a holiday to Lisbon, and then suddenly are no longer reachable. Jess, Issie's Mum, immediately thinks something is wrong,
and the story immediately picks up there.

I really enjoyed reading this book and would definitely recommend it

Enjoy this tightly written psychological thriller from Heidi Parks. Pacy, with a relatable MC in Jess. Good beach fodder!

Issie and her mother, Jess, previously shared a wonderful relationship. However, since Issie's father relocated to America, it has been just the two of them—until Dylan entered the picture. Issie's behaviour changed, and she became a different person from the girl Jess once knew. Could Dylan be the cause of this transformation?

Dylan and Issy travelled to Portugal, but on the day of Issy's 18th birthday, she failed to answer her phone. This led Jess to fear that something terrible had occurred.

Concerned for their well-being, Jess reported the teenagers as missing.

Upon Jess's arrival in Portugal, secrets began to surface. Will the truth about what transpired finally be revealed?

Initially, I found it challenging to engage with the book, but I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it once I became familiar with the characters.

The gripping nature of the story kept me captivated, and I couldn't resist the urge to continue reading.

The inclusion of true crime podcast segments added an intriguing dimension to the narrative, providing an additional layer of depth to the story.

Overall, I highly recommend this well-written piece of work.

A dark love story with an unpredictable twist!
I really enjoyed this fast-paced, cleverly crafted crime thriller cum love story.
Evie must escape the dark forces that puppeteer her from dangerous job to dangerous job.
But when her identity is mutilated beyond recognition, she must fight for her freedom and her life.
Great read! 👏

This is my first Net Galley read and review and I couldn’t have got a better book for my first. This book had been hooked and pulled in from the start. Love the twists in it as well as the love of a parent and how we only want what’s best for our children.

I absolutely love Heidi Perks books and this is definitely up there with my favourites. Would 100% get your hands on a copy when this is released in March 2025! You don’t want to miss out :-)

Dyland and Essie set of to go travelling, but Issie's mum Jess doesn't trust him and is suspicious.
Jess tries to contact her on her 18th birthday but she doesn't answer her phone and Jess is convinced Dylan has harmed her in some way. Jess then travels to Portugal because nobody else believes she is missing; it's a journey that uncovers a web of lies

How far will a mother go to protect her daughter?

Issie and her boyfriend Dylan go to Portugal travelling. Jess, Issie's mother is not happy as she thinks Dylan is controlling.
Jess doesn't hear from Issie on her 18th birthday, and she starts to worry. Dylan is also not answering his phone.
Jess reports them missing but is told that the British police can't do anything, so she travels to Portugal and involves the police there.
This was unputdownable. There were many twists to this, and you just don't know who is lying.
I loved the podcast sections and really thought it added to a terrific story.
I could empathise with both mothers. They came from totally different backgrounds, so I was kind of rooting for the underdog.
Many thanks to Random House for the invitation to read this in return for an honest review.
