Kelly and Ryan just had a beautiful wedding. They are celebrating at the reception with their friends and family. Kelly leaves the reception area, only to find her new husband entangled with his best friend's wife, Liza. Instead of confronting them, Kelly decides to leave the wedding reception and head straight to the airport for the honeymoon in Crete. Once in Crete, Kelly begins to relax at the luxury resort. However, after a few days, Ryan shows up. And of course, he is denying everything. But Kelly knows what she saw. She just wants to get through he rest of the vacation and get home to sign the divorce papers. But it seems Ryan has a few secrets up his sleeves....

I love vacation themed thrillers, and this one did not disappoint! A super fast paced and easy read, I could not put this one down and gobbled it up in two sittings. At first, it seemed like it was going to be a typical domestic thriller, but the twists and turns took this one in a different direction. Some of these characters are just awful, people lol. Can't wait to read more from Gemma Rogers!!

„Happiness consists of living each day as if it were the first day of your honeymoon or the last day of your vacation.“ ~ Leo Tolstov

Unless your name is Kelly and, a few hours into your wedding reception, you stumble upon your newly minted husband cheating on you with your best friend, so you decide to sneak out of your own wedding festivities and head on your honeymoon alone - at least until your cheating, lying husband decides to follow you, all while denying anything happened. And, surprise - his squeeze and her husband, the best man, are also joining you! What could possibly go wrong…

What sounded intriguing and started out well enough quickly turned into a very lackluster book. None of the characters are likeable, not even Kelly, who is the biggest hypocrite and spends no time at all mourning her ten-year relationship before hopping into bed with the (of course, eye roll) good-looking barman. But more than that, I found it infuriating how she couldn’t make up her mind. While she declares her relationship and marriage are over (and she seeks, depending on the chapter, a divorce or an annulment, going back and forth between the two like they are the same), she still constantly refers to Ryan as her husband and, even more infuriatingly, makes a lot of VERY stupid decisions out of misplaced concern for him.

I also couldn‘t get into the writing style and found it extremely repetitive (example: the fact they could have died had they been at the house during the fire is mentioned at least three times. I mean… duh). And once the not-so-happy former couple get back home, the story took such a crazy turn that I was wondering if I was reading a different book (in fact, the actual honeymoon makes up less than half the pages of the book).

I‘m sure lots of people will enjoy this as a quick read, but it wasn‘t for me.

TW: domestic abuse, sexual assault, attempted rape.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Honeymoon: A Honeymoon from Hell!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Honeymoon is my first Gemma Roger’s novel that sets you right in the middle of marital affair and an element of mystery from the start.

The discovery that Kelly makes on her wedding day is the worst thing any bride could find, the fact that she proceeds to go for her honeymoon alone and all these are fascinating with a touch of rebelliousness.
The plot of the story is also fast with many surprises that will leave the readers more curious. The author does a phenomenal work of keeping you on the edge as Kelly spends her time alone on the island and you doubt everyone’s intentions.
The characters, at times, can be rather inconsistent though, that is, it varies when it comes to characterization. Some of the readers would be frustrated with the decision of the character as an improvement of the strength was demonstrated at the beginning of the plot by Kelly. More insight, focus on the characters and a better ending could have given this book to a whole new level.
All in all, The Honeymoon is a thrilling, suspenseful novel, which is great for all fans of the domestic suspense subgenre. It is just a fantastic story with the good flow of the text and the plot is quite twisting, releasing on 18th October 2024.

Thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for providing this book, with my honest review below.

The Honeymoon looked to be exactly like the borderline camp thriller I enjoy and it was exactly what I was craving and just a little more. Starting off with a bang, with bride Kelly seeing her new husband Ryan cheating on her with her best friend (and his best friend’s wife) at her wedding, the action quickly changes locations on Kelly’s (for one) honeymoon and back home for a quickly turned multi faceted thriller.

While Kelly 100% needed to grow a spine and Ryan is almost a caricature in what a jerk he is, this story went beyond the couple and called into question the morals and motivations of our surrounding cast of characters as well. To say I didn’t have a clue what each one would do next, and if even seemingly benign characters had ill intent would easily be the accurate theme of the book. While the honeymoon stay went a little too long it later felt like a break for this reader to gather her energy for the complicated mystery that would quickly emerge.

I really enjoyed this and think others will too. It shakes up the thriller mold enough to keep you on your toes and you’ll find yourself disgusted, in a good reading way, at the characters and the mysteries they disclose.

What a brilliant book I loved every page, easy to get into the storyline, just what I like in a book.

All the characters were interesting and well described with twists along the way and what can I say about the ending other than it made me shiver.

Thank you to Netgalley and Boldwood Books for this ARC which I have no hesitation in recommending.

Thank you for the opportunity to preview The Honeymoon. This is not what I expected. A couple who are high school sweethearts have a lavish wedding. No expenses spared. But the bride, Kelly, sees her new husband in the embrace of her best friend. Suddenly she realizes that she’s not the only person who is going to have fun. She goes off by herself to enjoy her honeymoon in Crete.
Saddened and devastated Kelly feels like her life is over.
But her new husband, Ryan, is determined to find Kelly and stay married. And who does he bring with him on the honeymoon? His lover who is Kelly’s friend and her husband who is his friend.
A honeymoon from hell begins. But Ryan has more secrets and lies and soon Kelly realizes she is going to be unhappily married if she doesn’t make some changes But how can she get rid of her husband and live happily ever after. Not with the the blow up that happens and soon her life is in jeopardy as well as everything she holds dear to her. Nothing is sacred including her life. Good book. 3.5 stars

What do u do if ur husbands cheating with your best friend and you discover this on ur wedding day. Me for one I'd be outta there as our girl does without him. See ya later. Crete is but a 4 hour flight away and hotels booked leaving him behind still looking for his hidden passport.
He kicked the grass with his toe of his trainer making a divot while I circled a tree. Just like the confusion he has created within me a never ending circle of lies and deceit. This has to be sorted out as they've just got married everything including the promises have just gotten magnified. Will an affair, debt, intimidation and a house fire set the solution in front of her. Or is that the start of her problems with her husbands business, associates and closest friends.

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the eARC.
The beginning of the book was decent: Kelly has just married Ryan and at the after party she stumbles on Ryan and his best friend's wife in an amorous sexual clutch. She immediately decides to go on their honeymoon to Crete alone, sneaking out to the airport.
After that, the book lost me, I didn't like any of the characters, I got bored and I didn't get any real information about Crete, which I was hoping for. The whole story was over the top, not very realistic.

Any book by Gemma Rogers is an instant read for me. I swooped up The Honeymoon and couldn't wait to read it. Kelly and Ryan have just gotten married. At the reception, Kelly sees something that totally shatters her dream. She gets in a taxi and heads to the airport, alone, to go on her honeymoon to Crete. We have cheating, pushy women, suspicious best friends, a handsome bartender, and a dangerous thug.

I just could NOT get into this book. There was that little twist in the beginning, but I felt like I was reading and reading and getting nowhere. I found Kelly to be sappy and unlikable. Ryan was even worse. I didn't connect with any of the characters. The writing was wonderful, as always, for a Gemma Rogers book. Something though was missing for me. It took me awhile to finish this book because the suspense factor just wasn't there. However, I can't wait until her next book is released.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. I greatly appreciate it. I do recommend this book and it does get great reviews. I think it just wasn't the book for me.

The premise of this book had me intrigued from the start. I have never read anything by Gemma Rogers before so I wasn't sure what to expect. Honestly when I started the book I was like same old cliché. Cheating husband. Pushover wife.
WRONG!!

On her wedding day Kelly finds her husband Ryan with his tongue down her friend's throat. Not only is Liza Kelly's friend but also the wife of her husband's business partner and friend. Disgusted by what she saw, Kelly decides to go to their honeymoon destination of Crete alone. Days later Ryan shows up along "her"(Liza) and her husband. This is where Kelly gets some moxie and has a few surprises of her own. The honeymoon is awkward at best but when danger arises Kelly is not sure who she can trust.

This book was really good and I found myself rooting for Kelly. I was glad she showed some spunk and that made it easier to like her. All the other characters left much to be desired and were totally unlikeable. I will definitely be checking out more from Gemma Rogers in the future.

Kelly and Ryan have been together for ten years when they get married at a beautiful venue. During the evening party, Kelly goes outside for some fresh air – and wondering where her new husband is – when she comes across a summerhouse. She then catches Ryan and her best friend, Liza, in a very compromising position. Kelly is obviously gutted and decides that she’ll still go on honeymoon, but without Ryan so she gets changed and sets off without telling anyone.

Ten days in beautiful Crete is just what she needs to get over this horrible shock, but Ryan appears a few days later, having been reunited with his passport after Kelly hid it. Then the secrets start to come out.

This novel, with its expertly woven plot and accelerating pace, drew me into a world where nothing was as it seemed, and every turn of the page heightened the tension.
From the very beginning, Gemma Rogers established an atmosphere thick with uncertainty and a rollercoaster of emotions. The unexpected revelations left me emotionally invested in the outcomes, heightening the suspense of the couple’s tumultuous journey of a harrowing exploration of trust and betrayal.
Thank you Gemma Rogers, Boldwood Books and NetGalley for an early copy.

Another hard to put down read from Gemma Rogers,
Kelly finds her husband of only a few hours breaking his wedding vows with her best friend, so where does that leave her happy ever after?
What follows is a story covering themes of deception and trust, yet Kelly keeps going coping with a rollercoaster of betrayal after betrayal and a mysterious acquaintance of her husband.
Layer by layer, the story unfolds, leaving us with a fulfilling psychological thriller read.
RECOMMENDED

This was a crazy read! In a good way.
This is my first book my Gemma Rogers, and I'm new to thriller style books but I really do enjoy them - just like I enjoy this book!
It held my attention the whole book - I read it in one sitting and it flowed incredibly well, I couldn't put my kindle down haha
I didn't expect a lot of twists and surprises, so many shady characters and twists that I think most will love reading this book!

The Honeymoon is a psychological thriller that I read in one sitting. Kelly has just married Ryan when she catches him having sex with his best friend's wife. She decides to hide his passport and then goes on her honeymoon alone. That is, until he finds the passport and joins her. Every single time I had things figured out. The books just keeps twirling deeper and deeper. I did get an inkling of one of the plot pieces but it was all good because the whole book was fabulously suspenseful.
The book flowed and it felt like riding through the rapids. I was all in!
