There was lots to like in this book. It is packed full with crochet patterns which are inspired by Taylor Swift.
It is a lovely colourful book which was lovely to look at. I have found several patterns in here that I would like to make for the little Swiftie in my life.
It's a good book which has been well done and I can't wait to get my hook out.
For Swifties who have some crochet know-how, this is a fun and thoughtful gift.
Most of the patterns look amazing. They range from super easy headbands to very detailed cardigans and amigurumi dolls. I made the "Red" Roses Rug for my 11 yo. I made it into a pillow cover instead of a rug. The pattern was clever and easy to follow as I am an avid crocheter. A newbie might struggle.
There are one or two lame patterns. The baby blanket, for example.
If my daughter wanted to crochet, I would definitely buy this for her.
As a crochet fan, and mother in law of a Swift fan I was pleased to be granted this book. I get the hype, and this book was a genius creation. Whilst I have some reservations about its suitability for newbie crocheters, it is a good book with some fun makes.
Loved this book! It’s filled with adorable and unique projects inspired by her songs, albums, and iconic moments. As a beginner, I found many of the projects achievable and easy to read. I'm excited to get some yarn and start some more projects. A must-have for any swiftie who loves to crochet!
There were a lot of great and unique Taylor swift themed crochet patterns in here. They were easy to follow and accessible to a range of experience levels. As a certified swiftie, I’m excited to complete a few projects from this book.
it is kinda cool, but maybe for people wh have done it before - I was lost. maybe I will come back to it when im on a better level.
plus dunno if these are so taylor related?
When I first got this book, I thought about showing it to my mom and asking her to make something for me. She’s so talented, and I love everything she makes, so it seemed like a good idea. However, after seeing how well the author explains everything, I’m now inspired to FINALLY learn how to crochet for myself.
I can’t even say I’m a beginner since I haven’t started yet! LOL But I really want to thank this book for introducing me to so many beautiful projects that I can’t wait to try. It includes great instructions for stitches and crochet techniques that are super helpful. The author even teaches us how to insert zippers! Each project comes with detailed patterns, layout diagrams, and the inspiration behind each one.
You can learn how to make: a red rose rug, lover pillow, never grow up baby blanket, love story wedding shawl, echanted graphgan, lavander haze halter top, back to december hooded cowl, evermore taylor doll, cardigan sweater, marjorie granny square blanket, all too well scarf, shake it off beanie, 22 knee-high socks, you belong with me friendship bracelet pillow, Karma Cat bag, style newsboy cap, wildest dreams cardigan, blank space journal cover, reputation taylor doll, bejeweled headband, and fearless fingerless gloves.
Thanks to Quarry Books for the ARC!
I previewed this to get an idea if it would appeal to teen beginning crocheters. It’s colorful and trendy, and the look of many of the garment projects appealed to me, regardless that I’m not that familiar with Taylor Swift songs. I learned that some of the projects are designed for quite experienced crochet enthusiasts, so I guess it’s up to the individual to decide if this would be a useful and enjoyable project book for them.
I was excited to read this book and try out some of the patterns, but this book was a disappointment.
The images in this book did a horrible job representing the crocheted items that the patterns were for. I know that they were going for a specific vibe with the illustrated girls, but when you’re going to take the time to crochet an item of clothing, you need to see what it’s actually going to look like on a real person. I wanted to see the cardigans, the halter top, the hood, the shawl all on a real person. I needed to see how they hung and what I could anticipate my creation looking like, if I decided to attempt crocheting it.
The blankets weren’t spread out evenly for the pictures. The picture of the granny square blanket, in particular, looked horrible. I would never make that pattern just because the picture was so awful.
The graphs needed for several of the projects were way too small to be usable. There was a QR code to scan that gave you access to the graphs on your phone. You could zoom in, but they just felt hard to use and difficult to follow. Plus, when I have a book with a pattern in it, I expect to be able to use the pattern in the book and not have to go off somewhere else to make the pattern usable.
The Reputation doll was pretty cool looking.
I made the headband and it turned out pretty cute. After I got used to the pattern writer’s style, the pattern was easy to follow. There was a small mistake in the numbering of the rows (it has rows 1-3, then row 4, then rows 3-16, instead of rows 5-16), but other than that, the pattern seemed correct. I did 24 rows for the even section because it was looking kind of small. When I put the headband on, it immediately starts to slide off. That always happens to me with this type of headband. I guess I’ll have to use hairpins to keep it in.
In the end, this is not a book that I would recommend.
Thank you to Netgalley, Quarry Books, and Lee Sartori for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
One of my favourite women and one of my favourite crochet designers, all in one book.
Lee is a fantastic designer, and I have admired her designs for years, She creates designs that are fun, adorable, functional, wearable and a joy to create.
Beautiful series of crochet designs inspired by Taylor Swift, so lots of hearts, beautiful garments and accessories as well as some home decor, and a gorgeous Taylor doll. The patterns are for two levels - easy and experienced, so there will be something for every skill set, and there is a Skill Level graphic on each pattern that goes from 1 to 4 so you will know if it’s a good fit for your experience.
The first thing I want to make, and believe me it was difficult to narrow it down to one, is the ‘Lover’ Pillow. It’s a gorgeous design and very eye catching, although the ‘Karma’ Cat Bag is also calling to me.
The patterns are well written and very detailed. Each one has all the information you will need to crochet every design.
I also love that throughout the book there are little quotes from Taylor.
If you are a Taylor Swift loving crocheter then you need to add this book to your collection.
A great book for the Swiftie in your life - this has a range of ideas and a nice variety of designs and items
Tested the scarf pattern, worked as a charm. I'm hoping to be able to make another one sometimes soon but the explanations were clear and efficient, although better suited for experienced crocheters.
I love this. If you're a swiftie, love crochet, or want to learn crochet, the projects in the book are super cute!
Thank you to the publisher for my eARC.
If you are a Swiftie and you love to crochet, you need this book. With lots of projects varying in skill ranges, there is something for every fan. I am in the process of making the Rep Taylor amigurumi and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I wish there had been a few more pics of some of the projects as they progressed instead of just the final product. But overall, this is such a fun and timely book.
Thank you to netgalley for the arc!
When I see a pattern book for crochet or knitting available as an arc, it's always exciting because I knit and crochet, and getting a sneak preview into what'll be released is such a treat. Since some of my friends really like Swift, why not take a peak! In general, I think the contents are pretty well; the writing itself and the patterns read well, but it might be a tough read for someone new to crocheting. With a tie-in book, you'll get new people interested in this craft, so having the Helpful Info in the front with a mention of the stitches in the back is a great move! In general, the patterns are cute; not necessarily something I would crochet but I can absolutely see the appeal. I think the tutorial images are great and the images in general that are on a white background are great.
My big qualm comes with how the project images are shown, especially when it comes to the wearables. Those pictures are your selling point; if the images of the final projects look messy or not properly cut out, you're not gonna be excited to make it. I think the idea of having an illustrated girl to represent Swift was cute, but execution wise I don't love it, especially when it interferes with the projects. Having a real person model the projects not only shows me how the projects wear, in terms of wearables (especially the tops!), but how fabric drapes, the sizing of the final project, and the context of the lighting (which can make a project look great or blah). With the projects slapped on top of the illustrations, it does not look professional. I know it's a cute crochet book, but the cute vibe could have been achieved by keeping that scrapbooking feel throughout! The evermore doll looks the best pattern wise because we see the full project, and I like how the closeups are "taped" on like a scrapbook. I also think having these images on a coloured gradient background worked against them; the Majorie blanket being the prime example. You can see the white of the original backdrop through all of the crochet stitches, not to mention it feels like it was hastily pinned on a wall to photograph; if you're making a rectangle blanket with a border, you'd expect it to end up as a rectangle and not warped like the example; it makes me not want to make it. Another example is the You Belong with Me Pillow; the pom pom on the right literally has a border of white over the black sleeve because it was not cut out right and the right hand isn't drawn well.
A lot of these seem like nitpicks, and some are, but every little bit adds up. This is not a slight on the pattern designer at all; it takes a team to make a book, let alone a pattern book. The patterns are great and the instructions are written well! Because of the presentation, however, and the hasty looking illustrations paired with it, it feels more like a rushed cash grab than a solid attempt at a pattern book made for crocheters. I'm not surprised by that fact, but it's just unfortunate because this could have been a great recommendation to give parents looking for a new book for their kids who are fans, but I will not be recommending this at our store.
This book has some really cute patterns. I love the way that it is organized by mood with different levels of projects for each mood. I'm not a huge Taylor Swift fan so I don't know how inspirational a real Swiftie would find the projects, but it's fun, colourful book. I think it would make a great base to a learn to crochet kit as a gift for a Swiftie in your life.
Easy patterns with clear instructions - anyone will be able to benefit from this book, from beginners to absolute crochet pros!
I would actually like to see some more practical projects though that represents Taylor’s music career a bit more in depth.
As a fellow Swifite, I would recommend giving this one a go :)
Solid patterns! I think you can tell that this book was compiled with Taylor Swift fans in mind, but was not necessarily written by a huge Taylor Swift fan. I think some opportunities were missed to really dig into her music and reference the fandom in the different project descriptions and decorative text elements. That aspect felt a little service level.
This is a full-color crochet book based on Taylor Swift songs. The style of the book is very whimsical and sure to please Swifties. The patterns are nice and range from many different styles of crochet including filet and granny square. The items include a rug or a throw made of roses. I think that was my favorite. There are journal covers, amigurumi, a really cute headband. There is a crochet cap that is the newsboy style Taylor Swift has worn in many pictures. Some of the patterns are simple enough for an advance beginner.
I love how incredibly niche this book is… not only for Taylor Swift fans but for crocheters as well! I feel like I like Taylor Swift a normal amount (I like some of her songs and I appreciate her craft but I am not obsessed) and I just started crocheting… so when I saw this on Net Galley I decided to give it a whirl.
The instructions were clear and easy to follow even for a beginner like me. I loved that there was a variety of projects to do.
I can totally see where they were trying to go graphically with the style of this book and the images. But there was something that bothered me about it. I can’t put my finger on it.
The best picture was page 42. That concept of the Lavender Haze top I think looked the best and matched the vibe I would expect from a book like this.
Overall you can tell it was made by a talented crocheter and I would buy another themed book from her if she made one.
