4.5/5
I really enjoyed this book! First things first, I love Maren. One, she has a great name. Two, she is a fearless, assertive woman. Three, she is the sweetest to Lola. Four, okay you get the idea. I was just so impressed by Maren and how she handled everything that came her way in this book. It’s rare that I like the FMC better than the MMC, but that’s the case here.
Don’t get me wrong, Ozzy is great, but he didn’t outshine Maren. In fact, Ozzy did some things that didn’t sit well with me, thus the 1/2 star off. He was an amazing Dad and a sweetheart to Maren, the flower/plant gifts were too cute. I also loved his flirty vibe and open communication. He was always honest about both his hesitancy to pursue a relationship and his feelings for Maren. That hesitation went out the window (😉 if you’ve read it) pretty quickly though and it became more about how they could make it work with the barriers in their way. They had great chemistry and a deep connection. I loved that they met each other where they were at, never pushing the other to change.
This is a little insta-lovey in that they start dating early on, but the book follows the progression of their relationship, which is a slow build, not for lack of trying though. It felt like how a real life relationship would come about with two 30 somethings, one of whom is a single, widowed father.
There are of course themes of grief woven throughout the story and different perspectives/journeys illustrated, including that of Lola, Ozzy, and Brynn’s parents, Tia and Amos. After all they had to endure, it was heartwarming to see them all get their happily ever after.

Thank you Jewel E Ann and Valentine PR for my copy of From Nowhere. 🤍 I received this book for review, all opinions are my own and given freely.
From Nowhere is book 2 in Jewel E Ann’s Wildfire series. I adored book 1, From Air. When I saw From Nowhere pop up, I’ve never clicked so fast to sign up. I am praying there’s another book coming in this series and that Will gets his own book. His character has always peaked my interest and I would love to know more about him and a certain young doctor. I loved that the Fitz and Jamie also popped up (along with Will) throughout this book. It was so fun to see little bits of them throughout this books timeline as well.
From Nowhere is about Maren, the badass tanker pilot. Ozzy (and Lola) bring out the vulnerable, feminine side of Maren. She spends so much time in a male dominated career proving herself that it was so sweet to see that side of her. Ozzy was such a sweetheart and my heart broke for him (and Lola) w the backstory. His character also kinda angered me a bit lol. I was screaming at him to stop being so submissive to his in-laws but I do understand he was stuck between a rock and a hard place, he has the patience of a saint, I’ll give him that. The slow burn between Ozzy and Marren and all of their “almosts” only to be interrupted had me feeling the tension along w them.
From Nowhere tropes include single dad, love after loss, tragic past, slow burn, secret relationship and workplace romance to name a few. Even though it’s the second book of the series, I do feel as though it can be read as a standalone. However, hands down I recommend reading From Air. I still think about that book every day.
From Nowhere releases March 4! 🎉

"I love you, even if it scares me to death. The only thing that scares me more is trying not to love you."

From Nowhere releases March 4, 2025
This is a workplace romance between an air tanker pilot and an aircraft mechanic, in which the single dad of a ten-year-old navigates dating for the first time after the death of his wife.
The chemistry between Ozzy and Maren was so awkward and they read like two young teenagers instead of adults approaching their mid-thirties. Sneaking in and out of your own home, crawling through bedroom windows, and hiding in bedroom closets, all for some dick? You couldn’t pay me to do that. Plus the way Ozzy could only commute with a bicycle only added to the illusion that he was too young to obtain a drivers license even though that wasn’t the case.
All of that juxtaposed with Lola’s eagerness to talk about her father’s sex life and her grandfather’s porn habits, yet needing to mouth the word “poop” before using the washroom had me in shambles!
I have no issues with parents or guardian figures responsibly having the sex talk with their child, but what I’m not okay with is reading about a ten-year-old girl walking into a shared living space in her own home and finding her grandfather getting off under a blanket to porn on their television.
Out of all the possible scenarios to depict a moment of parenting, and this is the route you choose?
I’m uncomfortable!!
Then, for Ozzy to pull the “my daughter’s mom died and she has trauma” card to get out of shoplifting condoms?? Bottom of the barrel! How can he tell his father-in-law that they “shouldn’t do things in this house that we’re unwilling to explain to the resident child” yet not even have the balls to be truthful about a box of condoms for the sex he’ll have NEXT DOOR to his daughter? Make it make sense.
Don’t even get me started on the way Ozzy’s legally blind mother is written and how he’s so uncomfortable with the idea of her caring for his daughter…
“She’s lost most of her vision, which explains why her chin-length brown-and-gray hair is always ratted in the back and her button-down blouse is usually off by one or two buttons.”

Jewel Ann did it again! Another book masterpiece!
"It’s never the things I see coming that take my breath away. It’s the moments that come from nowhere.
A lost wallet.
A car accident.
And an empty toilet paper roll."
Maren, Ozzy and Lola are fantastic heroes brought to life by amazing Jewel Ann! Romance part was so, so good! It's complicated journey, but, oh, so worth it!
There are so many emotions that this story is triggered. And for me it is the true purpose of books!
I can't recommend enough to everyone - go and read this book gem!

I loved From Air and was so excited to continue this series because I'm obsessed with this small town romance of people who have crazy dangerous jobs and all live together, it's the perfect set up for a tv show. Maren is a pilot who fights fires and has the coolest job of any female main character I've read, because wow. Ozzy is a plane mechanic, a widower, and a dad of a little girl who made him promise to never get into a car after losing his wife in car accident.
Ozzy and Maren spend a chunk of this book avoiding their feelings because it's easier than dating with all the issues in Ozzy's household and Maren's job. However, the connection between these two is impossible for either of them to ignore so they eventually give in and try and make it work...and well it's works but like not well at all. It's filled with problems, struggles, children, and so much more. I loved the love conquers all in this book, but it also allows for mistakes, missteps, and accidentally hurting the other. It's a book about two imperfect adults who love each other imperfectly and its what makes this book so special and so emotional.
Also the emotional scenes involving Lola broke my heart more than once, like full on crying as this young girl shows and voices her fears, and asks for the unspeakable. Beautifully written story of grief and trauma and the lasting effects.

Another absolute page turner of note !! From Nowhere had me laughing and crying, both happy and sad tears. Maren our determined, strong pilot and Ozzy aircraft mechanic and single dad, set my kindle alight with the chemistry, passion, love and healing.
Maren first meets Ozzy at the office in an awkward bathroom moment. The instant chemistry between them gives rise to a special friendship, whitty banter and more than a few interrupted opportunities to really hook up. Theirs is a second chance love, but Ozzy has a 10 year old daughter, Lola and his late wife's judgemental parents living with him, which leads to Maren and Ozzy trying hide their growing relationship.
Maren and Ozzy's journey is emotional, a tale of overcoming heartbreak and trauma but also of love conquering all. Lola is a shining star, her antics are both funny and refreshing, lightening up what is otherwise a heavy storyline. I love this series and cannot wait to read more.

From Nowhere is book #2 in the Wildfire series. Maren is a firefighter pilot & Ozzy is a mechanic that works on the planes. They have a hilarious meet-cute at work and have an instant comfort and attraction to each other. The banter between them was absolutely perfection.
Ozzy is a wonderful single dad to sweet Lola. When I tell you this man would do ANYTHING for his baby girl... swoon. But my heart hurt for Ozzy. His life circumstances were hard to navigate when also trying to date someone new. They had to work through some serious issues if they wanted to really make their relationship work. I absolutely loved how much Maren loved Lola. Maren was the perfect strong, female influence that Lola needed in her life to help her get through previous traumas.
I wish we would've seen Ozzy be there for Maren when she really needed him. She is very forgiving and understanding though so she didn't hold it against him. Overall, this book is most definitely a rollercoaster of all kinds of different emotions - full of heartbreak but also happiness. I enjoyed it.
Thank you Valentine PR & Montlake for this ARC.

𝐅𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐍𝐨𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 is the 2nd book in the Wildfire series by Jewel E. Ann, featuring a spicy and emotional single dad, secret romance for Maren and Ozzy. An awkward bathroom meet-cute begins an unforgettable journey of love after loss, judgmental in-laws, fun banter, an adorable little girl, heart-wrenching emotion, and plenty of spicy chemistry! This author is a master of developing emotionally layered characters in a compelling world. I fell in love with Maren and Ozzy, and the way they connected on their tragic losses. And then there was sweet little Lola with her quirks, and the way they impact things. The best books are the full experience… a roller coaster of emotions that will have you laughing, swooning, blushing, and maybe tearing up, too! Jewel E. Ann has another such hit on her hands with this book!
I received an ARC for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.

3.5 stars out of 5 (rounded up) | I absolutely love the Wildfire series by Jewel E. Ann. The emotional impact both this book and the first book have is so heartbreaking yet hopeful and beautiful. The characters feel real and their backstory is brought into the current love story perfectly.
In the second book in this series we follow a single-dad, Ozzy and Maren who we met in From Air (Wildfire #1). I have loved Maren since the first book so I was so excited to read her story! The story of Ozzy and his daughter Lola broke my heart from the very beginning which of course, had me hooked on their story. Without giving away spoilers, you will love this book if you like romance with these tropes: single-dad, sneaking around, secret romance, first-responders, high-stakes, trauma, and insta-love.
For me, I struggled with the insta-love in this book. While the main characters did spend time debating the morality of their relationship long-term, they still had that "love at first sight" intensity which felt unreal due to their respective backstories.
Overall, I highly recommend this book and even more so this series! Thank you to the author, Valentine PR, and NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book.

4.5 stars
I love Lola! The best single dad / daughter duo and their story is heartbreaking. Not only did you get all the great aspects of lightheartedness, but it also gives you the depth you need to have the full circle moments that make a story authentic.
The banter between Ozzy and Maren was pure perfection. And the sheer number of times they tried to hook up only to be interrupted had you wanting it even more for them in the end. Every time was a fun moment that made you feel like it was young love trying to sneak around like your teenage years.
From Nowhere shows us that sometimes there's love worth fighting for. These two have to overcome fears and trauma, and how love can get you through some dark and unknown times. I love how Maren showed patience but also because just a strong role model for Lola.
Just a wild ride with all the right pit stops leading to the final destination. I have learned to love Jewel to the 10th degree and this one book is just another reason why!
Tropes:
- Single Dad
- Tragic past
- Firefighter Air Tanker Pilot x Aircraft Mechanic
- Workplace Romance
- Cinnamon Roll MMC
- Secret Romance

The emotional element to this story was really pulling at my heartstrings. Ozzy and his daughter Lola have been through so much.
The meet cute if you call it that was very interesting story and really pulled me into the beginning of the story. We meet Maren in book one and I loved getting to know her more in this story.
“It’s never the things I see coming that take my breath away. It’s the moments that come from nowhere. A lost wallet. A car accident.
And an empty toilet paper roll.”

I was “WOWED” by the first book in this series, and unbelievably this one was even more “WOW”! From the opening “laugh out loud” scene, through to the emotional and heartwarming end, this is a book I will want to read again. Maren is the new air tanker pilot at Cielo Aviation who is known for being a “badass” as she drops water, from her plane, on forest fires. Her first meeting with Oswald “Ozzy” Laster, aircraft mechanic, is memorable in so many ways and there is something that clicks between them. She eventually learns why he always rides his bike, instead of driving a car, as he and his ten-year-old daughter Lola ride everywhere together. Lola’s grandparents are living with him to help care for her, but Tia makes sure that he is aware of her disdain for him. His greatest desire is to help Lola heal as his thoughts of being with Maren become more frequent. She is slowly becoming embedded in his heart and important to both him and Lola. When Maren suffers an incident during a drop, how will Ozzy and Lola handle the wait for news? Will Maren’s resolve to fly again be what Lola needs to face her own fears? I can’t wait to read Will’s story! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

This is book 2 in the Wildfire Series and I’m obsessed with these characters!
From nowhere can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. Although book 1 From Air, was my top read of 2024 and this book is a top contender for favorite book of 2025!
Touching, and emotionally charged, this poignant story of grief and second chances in love was
totally captivating. The quirky situations only this author can incorporate in her stories made this story even more enjoyable.
This is Maren and Ozzy’s story.
Maren is a fiercely independent, thirty something single female working as a tanker pilot fighting fires. She shares a home with 2 alpha men who help share in their everyday expenses. She takes no prisoners and gives as good as she takes.
Meeting Ozzy was a surprise she wasn’t expecting and their insta lust insta love story took a few unique twists when a precocious sassy 10 year old daughter of Ozzy enters the picture. Ozzy is a complex and complicated widower and single father of said 10 year old.
I can’t say much more without giving away some secrets and I cannot to that to Maren and Ozzy. How their story evolved and developed had me glued to the pages. This read was overflowing with all kinds of juicy secrets, humor and smoldering passion.
Needless to say besides their undeniable chemistry, their sarcastic banter and dry humor, this story took romance to another level of enjoyment as sensitive issues are introduced and addressed.
A must read!

Number 2 in Jewel E. Ann's Wildfire series - this is delightful! Maren is a pilot, Ozzy an aircraft technician and they hit it off from their first awkward meeting. Such fun! Ozzy is a widowed single dad, grappling with grief, bitter in-laws who live with him, and his still traumatised young daughter, Lola. Maren is a confident career pilot, she's living in a share house and has always been satisfied enough by her work. This is a classic 'right person, wrong time' relationship which focuses on Ozzy's family dynamic. There's hardly anything of their work lives, so don't come for the flying, come for the romance!
These two have plenty of chemistry and sneaking around. I loved the sex-positivity and how much fun they had in and around the bedroom 🌶🌶 Ozzy is a romantic and a wife-guy and he knows who he is and prioritises his daughter. Maren is blown away by how into him she is - so delicious! Much of the plot centres around Ozzy not driving, because of his daughter's trauma. It's well handled, although I didn't really get that his refusal to get in a car made him somehow less masculine.
Thank you Jewel E. Ann, Montlake and NetGalley for the ARC. Opinions are my own.

this was honestly a top read for me this year so far. the story was truly amazing and i loved every single aspect of it. maren, ozzy, and lola were honestly perfect and this book just made me so happy to read. the ending was epic and perfect and made me cry happy tears and i didn’t want it to end whatsoever. i cannot recommend this book enough, seriously this entire series has been so amazing so far and i can’t wait to see what else is in store!

It was funny, painful, brave, and completely enjoyable to such a degree I had to read it in one sitting. From the opening scene in the bathroom, through slipping through windows and "accidentally" showing up in the same place. This lovely story of a dad trying to help his precocious daughter through trauma, finding a sparkling wildfire tanker pilot, and wanting to keep everyone happy made this a jewel of a single-dad romance that pulls on all the heartstrings. I think it was fast-paced, but that may have been because I was so into it that I just read it fast. I love the Wildfire series; it's humorous and tender, and there's some signature angsty twist from Jewel E Ann thrown in. I can't wait for the next one!
Thank you, NetGalley and Montlake, for the eArc!

Every story makes me fall a little harder and faster. The writing is pure genius. The story so captivating you simply cannot put it down. The characters so endearing you will endure anything just to escape into their world. It all felt so real and they are living this life down the street from you. Some of the best written fiction I have ever had the privilege to read. With the believable storyline, intense situations and witty dialogue, From Nowhere will sink into your soul and remain as a beautiful memory always.
Ozzy and Maren will forever be the most dazzling and down to earth characters. The secondary characters were amazing and provided the support the main characters needed at times. The story so palpably realistic, it was truly an unforgettable experience to read it. A mesmerising piece of romantic fiction. 5 stars.

Well that took my heart shredded it then mulched it up and put it back together! Oh how I love Ozzy. He’s been through the unimaginable and is trying to navigate life after. Enter the best meet cute ever and Maren is the person to hold the map for him.
Loved this book so much and read almost the entire thing through tears, good and bad, and couldn’t imagine reading it any other way. Definitely a re-read for me

Maren and Ozzy meet in an unexpected way. In the bathroom. The men’s bathroom. At Cielo Aviation where they both work where Maren as a tanker pilot and Ozzy as an aviation mechanic.
Two years prior, Ozzy ‘s daughter, Lola and wife were in a terrible car accident and now his father and mother-in-law live with them to help take care of Lola.
I’m in love with JEA’s new book From Nowhere! Maren, Ozzy and his daughter, Lola, are absolutely adorable and I love them! It’s about grieving and moving forward and healing after experiencing such a horrifying loss and battling fears. From Nowhere is both so heartbreaking and heartwarming. It’ll have you crying, frustrated, and give you all of the happy feelings as Maren and Ozzy build their relationship. Not to mention, Maren is the absolute sweetest when meeting Lola for the first time and all the other times they got to spend time together. Ozzy loves Lola with every fiber of his being and will do anything to protect, care, and love his sassy, spirited daughter. Ozzy is totally swoon and book boyfriend worthy! He does the sweetest things! His and Maren’s relationship might not be easy but for them conversation flows easily as does the banter.
This is one of my favorite JEA books!
