Really enjoyed this book, fun characters- realistic enough to be believable yet amusing too. Great narrative and kept me interested. Cozy style with warmth and engaging themes that got me thinking!!
Why is it 5 stars - because I want to discuss it, even after finishing it, and spread the word about this fab book.

Laugh out loud. Loved this book who is deceiving who and why, couldn't put it down. A must read book.

Hilarious, fresh and strongly Feminist- this was a triumph of storytelling.
I absolutely loved all the women interacting with each other and had no idea how they were going to get out of their predicament. But that's what kept me turning the pages!
In some ways it reminded me of Bad Sisters but it felt more mature, punchy and heart felt.
As twist after twist appeared I wondered about my own retirement plan.

Oh this was a fun read. It is so refreshing to read a book that has so many important characters, who are actually individual and don't blend in to one another. Each with a very distinct voice.
The four husbands have lost some money. Actually, quite a lot of money and although their wives are understandably not happy about it, they all still seem solid.
The husbands come up with a new plan to aid the Retirement fund that they lost but when one of the husbands is found dead, the remaining group decide to take things in to their own hands.
There are so many brilliant coincidences and mix-ups, that as the reader, you can't help but laugh at what you can see unfolding.
Lots of fun, twists, turns and madcap activities. I'd love to read more involving this group.

Such a wonderful book! I enjoyed every page. It must have taken an age to write as the plot is detailed, finely worked, a bit scary but most of all funny - perfect escapism. Can't wait to read another book by Sue Hincenbergs.

'Bad Sisters' meets 'The Golden Girls' meets 'Hit Man' in this darkly comedic debut that's cosy crime cranked up to eleven – with a side of leftover pad thai!
A riotously funny ensemble piece that had me laughing from start to finish and congratulating the author on the fun she must have had as each chapter took me somewhere I didn’t see coming.
The characters are brilliantly realised, each voice distinct and razor-sharp. I'm treading carefully to avoid spoilers, but trust me – the narrative twists and turns with such gleeful unpredictability that a TV adaptation feels inevitable.
Four couples in their sixties navigate the aftermath of a catastrophic investment scheme that decimated their life savings. The marriages have soured, but their friendship remains rock-solid. When one of the husbands dies in a suspiciously freakish accident, leaving his wife suddenly wealthy thanks to a million dollar life insurance policy, the other wives begin to plot – only to discover, too late, that the men have schemes of their own.
The characters are endearing and complex: Pam & Hank, Marlene & Dave, Shalisa and Andre, Nancy & Larry. Throw in Hector, a local barber with a "do whatever needs doin’" side hustle, a funny looking rescue pooch named Elmer, and Padma, a Mumbai millennial lady-boss battling her matchmaking mother, and you've got an ingenious heist drama that's as acidic as it is hilarious.
The dialogue crackles with years of shared history, the humour emerging from deep-rooted friendships that have weathered extreme highs and lows. It's a masterclass in comedy writing.

Well written but I didn't enjoy the story and ended up just skim reading it. I was excited by the summary on Netgalley but the book needed editing. It was a story within a story within a story on top of misunderstanding upon misunderstanding.
There was just too much going on for me to enjoy the story

Not what I expected at all. I really liked all the surprises, twists and turns. Will definitely read more from this author.

This book was absolutely brilliant. It had me laughing out loud on many an occasion and I adored the twists and the turns as the story developed. Some of the plot twists I guessed, some I didn’t but every bit of the read was enjoyable and different. Hector and Brenda were fabulous characters and both the wives and husbands had great characters within their groups- it was just so clever and I won’t say anymore as I don’t want to ruin the story for anyone else, but please do read it!

A great easy to read holiday take along book. Full of humour, what sounded like such a good plan for four lifelong friends comes crashing down, but not without it's twists and turns along the way.

A great book full of humorous moments. The characters and their stories were both relatable and realistic. I thought this book was fantastic. It is highly recommended by me!

Four women with less than ideal husbands.
One husband dies in a suspicious accident...which gives the remaining wives an idea...
The husbands have rather large life insurance policies.
Sounds like a good retirement plan - except the husbands have an idea of their own...
Brilliantly funny

Four lifelong friends have lost their retirement funds in a bad investment and so their wives are very unhappy with them. They come up with a new money-making scheme but when one of them is found dead, a series of coincidences and misunderstandings leads to both the husbands and the wives taking some drastic action.
This book is such great, escapist fun. There are so many twists and turns, shady characters, mafia threats and darkly funny moments, all set against a fairly mundane domestic background.

Phenomenal concept but the writing got a little too tangled for me in places and keeping track of who was plotting to do what to whom was a little confusing unless you read in big chunks.
That said the characters are all excellent and very real with bitterness exuding from every page!

I received this ARC and intended to read it - then got busy. However, I read that it was going to be a big read for next year so promoted it on my TBR pile.
This is an entertaining read, a novel about four couples whose lives take a very unexpected turn. When one of the men dies in an accident, his widow moves to Florida, leaving her three friends behind to manage their unhappy marriages. Before long, things take another surprising turn and the lives of the people become fragmented and complicated.
The premise is quite clever. However, I don't find this well-written. Prose is clunky and dialogue is weak and cliched. The women use the ‘f’ word far too often which I don’t think is indicative of 60-something females in their life stages. It’s unclear where this is set - possibly NE USA or Canada. The author is Canadian and the prose feels quite British in places.
This will be successful and is going to be made into a film. I believe the writer works in film. It has, I feel, been written for the screen. I can imagine actors (like Diane Keaton) who might play the females. Having said this, characters are not richly-drawn and it left me wanting to finish this somewhat unoriginal read.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.

I absolutely loved this debut novel!
We follow three 60-something couples, who seem to be in a marital rut. The wives are beginning to hate their husbands, and when one of their friends gets a million dollar life insurance cash out after her husband Dave dies in an accident, they decide to hire their local barber-hitman so they can get rid of their husbands too. Plus, a condo in Florida doesn't sound too bad either!
What they don't know, is that Dave discovered a glitch in one of the local casino's slot machines, and their husbands have been running a retirement scheme, scamming their local casino out of almost $10 million! After Dave's death, they start thinking it was a sign that someone is onto them, and they realize it's time to do something before they get murdered too.
This was such a hilarious story full of misunderstanding and interesting characters and it all worked so well! It featured a lot of greatly timed twists and turns, and even though some could be predicted, it didn't degrade the story whatsoever. The writing style was so easy to read and I flew through the book. The side characters were so well developed and I also really enjoyed the story behind the casino's boss Padma's life and how she got to be the boss. Everything was so well thought-out and I just enjoyed myself the entire time of reading! I think this will be a perfect summer read and I can't wait to display it on my shelf when it comes out next May :)
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with a free e-galley in exchange for an honest review.

This book is so much fun - a hilarious premise with a great sense of pace. A funny and sharp debut, with a great voice and a lot of charm.

I loved this! An intricate and clever plot, written with humour and an excellent lightness of touch. Perfect characterisations. Not wishing to give too much away, assumptions are dangerous things when piled one atop another. Oh, and the dog is fine!

Ooh this is very very good, excellent even. Full of interesting characters. Lots of superb plot twists and turns. Engaging characters, extremely unputdownable. A unique story. Would suit all adult age groups not just those nearing or in retirement. A Fantastic Read.
Strongly recommend!

I loved this book.
