This was an interesting read!

I'm struggling to review this without spoiling it. But Sally is a lil crazy!

This book was very female focused and f the patriarchy and toxic men! We have women taking back their power however they can.

This was quite funny too. "I swear if he hadn't made me scream like a banshee on MDMA multiple times I would never have fallen for his nasty little trick." LOL!

My only criticism is it felt a little all over the place in parts. It skipped scenes abruptly with no page break or clear definition. That could have been the copy I received though.

Thank you Netgalley for the copy.

I was drawn in by the idea of women banding together to take down the men who wronged them, but this didn’t live up to its potential. The characters felt one-dimensional and were mostly defined by their relationships with men. The plot moved forward through wildly convenient moments and wrapped up a little too neatly in the last bit.
The tone is darker than expected, and the few attempts at humor didn’t quite land. I had hoped for something sharper, funnier, and more empowering ... instead, it was just too bleak for me.

When Sally Killed Harry by Lucy Roth
This one surprised me with its blend of dark humor and emotional depth. The narrative voice is quirky and a little offbeat, which made the story’s heavy themes easier to digest. I found myself laughing and cringing in equal measure. The characters are messy but lovable, and the story’s mix of crime and comedy kept things fresh. Definitely recommend if you want something off the beaten path.

Thank you NetGalley and Avon Books UK | Avon for this book for review. This was a fast and fun read. What does a girl do when she wakes up hungover and finds out her date from last night not only left her with an empty bed, but also with an empty bank account?? The only thing she can do….. find him and get revenge.

I really enjoyed this and was so stuck between 3 and 4 stars! If you suspend your belief and lean into the female rage and revenge then you will have a good time with this one. Sally was neither likeable nor unlikeable, I felt for her and was lowkey rooting for her even when things started to get murdery. I absolutely loved that she got a group of women together that had bad experiences with men and wanted to get back at them. I liked the group although the characters all felt a little bit one dimensional, we didn't know much about them outside of their problems with these men. I did really like it though, and enjoyed the slight twist at the end.

I tried so hard to get into this book. I normally love a dark comedy but for me it wasn’t comedic enough. It felt slow and it was hard to get the characters. Especially Sally.

A group of vigilante women think nothing of ridding the world of rapists, wife beaters and thieves. They have their weekly meetings and plan just how to get their own back on these men.

This is a good premise but unfortunately a bad execution. It was just all a little bland, I didn't like the characters especially Sally.

Sally is so annoying she literally fell in love with someone after 4 dates. The whole instalove thing for me is just too cringy.

Their are teasers throughout about what happened to Sally when she was younger but to be honest I really couldn't care less she irritated me so much.

The only decent part for me was the ending with Priya.

This book isn’t so much a “rom-com gone rogue” as it is a full-blown feminine rage thriller. Honestly, if it had been marketed that way, it probably would've found its ideal audience. Now, I love a good feminine revenge story—but while this one had its YESSSS moments, it just didn’t quite land for me. Everything felt a little too easy, a little too neat for the women involved.

That said, I do appreciate the conversation this book sparks. Sure, some of it might come off as “man-hater-ish,” but the sad truth is that the experiences these characters face are all too familiar—either personally or through someone we know. I think the author was aiming for a lighter tone to maintain that rom-com appeal, but I wish Roth had just gone all in. Embrace the dark. Commit to the chaos. Let these women really burn it all down.

Instead, it felt like she was trying to walk the line between playful and powerful—and in the end, it didn’t fully satisfy either. If she had leaned harder in either direction, I think this would’ve been a much stronger, more impactful read for me.

I was very excited to read this book because of the synopsis but it was really hard to get through. I didn’t find the rom or the com anywhere and though the topics that are discussed in this book are of great importance, it didn’t make the book anymore interesting.

A very intriguing premise with so much female revenge that made me flip through the pages so fast! I enjoyed the book, it was an entertaining read for sure.

thank you to netgalley for the e-arc. um..i wanted to read this one because it was a way to see the flip side of when harry met sally (one of my favorite movies) but the writing was poor and i never really got into the story itself.

Thank you Net Galley and Publishers for letting me read an arc of this book in return for an honest review.

This is like psycho killer ocean's 11. After getting drugged and her bank account completely wiped out by a handsome con man, Sally is on a revenge streak. She forms a group of several wronged women who have also dealt with abusive and vile men. They all set traps to humiliate and get back what was stolen from them whether it's money, freedom, or piece of mind. It's a rollercoaster of a book learning about everyone's back stories. The twists and turns are chaotic but fun, a little hard to keep up with at times. It almost moves too fast between each scene and she literally obsesses over Harry every other paragraph. There comes a point where this isn't revenge against men, but almost a vendetta. It was really entertaining but had so much going on.

This book totally sucked me in from page one! I couldn't put it down - seriously stayed up way too late reading it (my coffee consumption the next day was off the charts, but worth it). The characters felt like actual people I'd want to hang out with, not those perfect-but-boring types you see in a lot of books. They made dumb decisions sometimes, just like real humans do, which made me way more invested in their story.

The writing just flowed so naturally that I kept thinking "just one more chapter" until suddenly it was 1am. It hit that perfect sweet spot between making me laugh out loud at random moments and then hitting me in the feels when I least expected it.

If you're looking for your next read, grab this one - you won't regret it! I've already messaged my friends telling them they need to read it!

When Sally Killed Harry starts off with a sluggish pace that made it hard for me to fully engage right away. The first few chapters felt more like a slow unraveling of backstory than the gripping thriller I expected from the title. While things eventually pick up, especially in the final third, getting there required some patience.

My biggest struggle was with Sally herself. As a protagonist, she’s cold, calculating, and often frustratingly distant. I never quite connected with her or understood her choices in a way that made me root for—or even against—her. She felt less like a complex anti-hero and more like a character I just didn’t enjoy spending time with.

That said, the writing is sharp, and there are some genuinely surprising twists once the momentum builds. Fans of dark psychological thrillers might appreciate the payoff, but for me, it was a mixed experience.

My honest review is that this story was unfortunately mislabeled a bit. It might just be that the humor/satire isn’t my cup of tea. I was very hopeful for this one based on the premise but was just not my favorite! I think some reformatting and restructuring could help, so hopefully the final version reads a little easier!

I was really excited for this book based on the synopsis, I love a revenge storyline and was interested in the potential rom com element of the story.

However, this book while enjoyable was not what I expected it to be and was a lot slower paced than I would have liked. Bringing in so many characters was a little confusing at times and you would need to suspend disbelief at some of the achievements of the group of women.

Overall I think this would be a nice summer read for those who are looking for a quicker but less realistic thriller.

Let me start by saying I really wanted to like When Sally Killed Harry for two reasons:
1. A thriller about a messed-up woman killer sounds like something right up my alley, and
2. I’ve never been a fan of When Harry Met Sally.
But, unfortunately, something about this book just didn’t click for me. If I had to put my finger on it, I’d say my main issue was the chick lit tone that didn’t really change even as the things got heated. This book deals with some heavy stuff like domestic violence, but I don’t think those moments were handled with the care they deserve.. Truthfully, I was totally on-board with the romcom vibes in the beginning, expecting the narration to follow suit as things took a dark turn, but that never happened. In the end, I got more frustrated with the book than with men, which I didn’t know was possible.

3/5 — Just Not My Flavor of Female Rage

I really wanted to love this one. The premise? Chef’s kiss. A badass woman taking out terrible men to make the world a better place? Yes, please. But unfortunately, When Sally Killed Harry just didn’t quite land for me.

It’s probably a me thing, though. I adore a good gory, rage-fueled tale, but I like mine with a side of snark or dark humor. This one leaned more serious and introspective, which will absolutely work for some readers—but I was craving a bit more bite and wink.

If you’re looking for that perfect blend of chaos, wit, and revenge, I’d personally recommend authors like Katy Brent, Joanna Wallace, or Asia Mackay. But if you like your female vengeance a little more straight-laced and simmering, this might be the one for you.

Sally Parker has had it with men. The dates that she goes on are nothing short of atrocious - If I'm honest, I know how she feels...

But then she meets Harry, and he is perfect.

No really, he is.

Hahahaha...

Don't be ridiculous, of course he's not!

Harry is a conman, a swindler, a charming, beautiful man who has conned Sally out of her deserved inheritance.

A crime for which he must pay.

The novel opens with Sally, well killing Harry, and no it's not a spoiler. I mean, did you even read the books' title before you picked it up?

Sally had a terrible upbringing, so she escaped to New York City to start afresh, she is damaged sure. But not irretrievably so, she just needs someone she can love, who can take her mind of things.

She thinks that Harry is it. Until he isn't. But murder isn't usually how you deal with a conman is it? Well no, of course not, but Sally isn't like other women, and Harry isn't the first man who has crossed her!

When Harry met Sally, it was nothing like the popular romcom of their namesakes. Sally is caught up in a brief whirlwind romance with a charming dreamboat Harry. But when she wakes up one morning with her bank account emptied and the residuals of a roofie wearing off, she’s ready to get her revenge on this nightmare. Together, she bonds with a group of women also wronged by strangers and even their own husbands, and they all help each other start to regain their lives and get a bit of justice. And for Sally-Harry is at the top of her list.
This was a hilarious yet twisted novel with a number of twists I didn’t expect. It was hard to put down with one laugh or gasp after the next. Creative execution!
