When allie has writers block she meets up with another writer and they swit h story plot. At the same time she starts talking to a new guy
Turns out it's a small world.
I guessed it about 30% in

I wanted to love this... I really did. But the story continually fell flat for me. I didn't find a single character relatable or someone I really wanted to root for, except maybe Verity. Allie was whiny and mean and self centered, Will seemed so 1 dimensional, Martin was uninteresting. Because the story focused on Allie, she was the biggest problem. She was just really unlikable and preachy. I don't really have a lot to say about it, other than I just didn't really enjoy it, which is sad because there were some points that I wish had been written better. Covering the #MeToo movement was great, but the writing was so poor that it couldn't make up for the rest of the story. Featuring feminism was also great, we need more women and sisterhood, but every time Allie tried to talk about it, it just came across as sort of "holier than thou" and I couldn't stand it. So much more could have been done, it just left me feeling really disappointed.

I tried this book a few times and did persevere with it. I'm going to be honest , I struggled to enjoy it. I found the MMC quite boring and I ended up not rooting for the FMC. It had all the elements of a book I wanted to love this, but it fell flat for me.

Cute title, adorable cover.
I feel like I've read a fair amount of books about books/authors lately. I liked that this book had two authors who felt like they had writers block and agreed to help each other out. I liked the support that they gave each other. I think that there were some intriguing connections in this book (though fairly predictable) and that helped me in wanting to find out how the book ends. The third act arc kind of frustrated me but there's some grand gestures/redemptions. I don't often like a lying or miscommunication trope - but feel like it worked out in the end overall.
All in all, a cute low-spice read. Thanks to Netgalley and HarperCollins UK for a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
3.5 out of 5 (rounding up on goodreads)

The premise of the book was very interesting and I it could have been lovely but it wasn't.
Allie is suffering from a writer's block for a long time now, she is due to deliver her next book but she doesn't even have an idea for, when she teams up with a bug name thriller writer, who is also supposed to have a book ready, they work together to finish their book in time.
And when a certain caterer enters the scene the ideas for a romance start flying.
The plot is full of subplots and the main romance is getting lost in there. I believe that if a couple of thing were left out and the romance was in the center of the story this book would have shine.

A Bookish Romance with Potential
Eleanor Goymer's second novel, The Plot Twist, centers around romance novelist Allie Edwards and her writer's block, which she is looking to break, no matter the cost. When she meets a delightful crime writer who shares her misery and a delectable young caterer, things seem to be turning out fine..
I have to admit that the premise of this novel really hooked me. What made me give it 3 stars was the lack of follow-through from the author. She has constructed a delicious problem and net of characters to get caught up in but everything falls very flat.
I love Eleanor Goymer's prose, her voice reads smoothly and she has great potential to be entertaining. However. Her characters are flat to frustrating and she has a knack for choosing the wrong scenes and pacing to make this read satisfying. Big scenes feel rushed or get reported instead of shown. Some of the publishing story line feels very contrived and I cannot help but feel that she did not push any of the characters hard enough.
Other than Allie, the main character, most others feel flat and like they only exist to ask her questions or give her advice she refuses to take. Allie is also terrible at decision making, so if that frustrates you, you might want to give it a pass.
If you are into bookish heroines with questionable decision making and a small set of very secretive yet outspoken friends, this book is for you. The book does not feel formulaic at all, so if you are in for low stakes and much dialogue and reported action, this book is for you.
It was not for me, since I never really clicked with Allie and found little redeeming qualities in her or the people around her. I also prefer more lengthy scenes and more build-up with longer payoff.

This should have been a hit for me, but it fell flat. Allie annoyed me a lot of the time and her decisions always felt too childish for a grown woman and the romance was barely there. There's slow burn and then there's next to no burn.
An easy enough read but not what I hoped for.

Unfortunately, I tried to read this one but I had to DNF. It's premise seemed promising but I was a little bored throughout.

The idea intrigued me, kind of like Book Lovers by Emily Henry. Although it was enjoyable for the most part, the pacing seemed rather slow and the chemistry between the two characters lacked the magic you usually feel when reading a top contending romance story. Overall 3.5 stars!!

When authors Allie and Martin meet at a party they discover they both have writers block. With looming deadlines and no words to show their editors they decide to switch plots, telling each other’s stories - the twist is she’s a romance author and he writes crime novels. In the process Allie meets Will - could he be the answer to her lack of romantic source material? Caught between love and her career, what could possibly go wrong?
The book begins with Allie feeling ‘stuck’ in a relationship lacking romance - a romance author who knows how she’d like her relationship to go and how she wishes her partner would act, but this doesn’t happen in reality. So when she needs to write her next novel she can’t get any words out - she has literally no inspiration. I really liked Allie’s character - the way she empowers her friends and supported Martin. She was just overall a really likeable FMC!
In my opinion the ‘romance’ in this book was almost a secondary plot point, with the MMC hardly showing up throughout the book. I loved his scenes when he was around, and I was really invested in their relationship. The way they met and the events that transpired made me believe in them. Whilst their relationship wasn’t given a lot of development throughout the book it still held weight.
The fact the romance took a backseat didn’t diminish my love for the book - as I adored the other overarching themes of friendship and found family. Her friendship with Martin, how they help each other and become close - I loved their relationship. And her relationship with her best friend Jess, how they were always there for one another and supported each other throughout the book. And her friendship with Verity and how she helped her overcome the struggles she faced within the plot. All of these friendships were worth so much more than the romantic plot line and I really liked how they were developed and explored.
The novel also focused on sexism in the publishing industry and highlighted the issues women face.
Overall I really enjoyed this book - an enjoyable romance set in the publishing industry, with themes of found family and friendship.
ARC copy provided by Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter & NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was a cute story. The plot really intrigued me, I was so happy to receive an early copy from netgalley. For me personally the pace was a little too slow and the romance wasn't really there, i would have enjoyed more of Wills character. The friendship between Allie and Martin was the star of the book

This book had a predictable plot and I found the story dragged in places. Since I went in expecting romance, I was definitely disappointed in the relationship between the main couple. The side characters were loveable and parts were cute and enjoyable.

I wanted to love The Plot Twist, but it felt like the book was juggling too many ideas without fully committing to any of them. The romance? Barely there. The characters? Flat. The pacing? All over the place.
If this hadn’t been an ARC, I probably would’ve DNF’d it at the 14% mark (which is the end of chapter one). I REALLY forced myself to finish this one
Still, there were glimmers of potential—especially in Allie and Martin’s friendship, which had some genuinely fun moments. With deeper character development and a more fleshed-out romantic arc, this could’ve been a winner. Unfortunately, it missed the mark for me.
Overall Thoughts: Don't market it as a romance/rom-com, it's honestly more of an adult coming-of-age.
2/5 Stars--and that's me being nice.
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I give this book 3.5 starts but on here I’ve rounded up to 4. This was a nice book to read I liked the friendship between Martin and Allie. I did also like the relationship between allie and will I just felt like the book brushed over things quite quickly and was a little rushed. Not a bad review or book at all I still enjoyed it and would recommend ☺️

This book is so short on romance that I don't even know if I would classify it as such. It's chock full of small obstacles and misunderstandings blown out of proportion for the sake of the narrative that it leaves little time to develop the relationship between Allie and Will. The relationship between Allie and Martin is more fleshed out.
Speaking of Allie and Martin, the twist involving the latter is so obvious that I figured it out 100 pages before Allie does, leading me to think that she's just dumb. Ditto with Will's "secret." Also, despite everyone including Martin's wife claiming that Allie is a great writer, she...does not seem so adept at it. But hey, convenient that someone who struggles with writer's block for most of the book is able to churn out not one but TWO complete novels in quick succession as apologies to people she's wronged (and again, the conflicts are not nearly as big of a deal as the characters make of them).
If you read romance novels for the love scenes, skip this one, as the lovebirds at the center of the story consummate their relationship off-screen. For a book whose main couple seldom interacts, it fits, actually.
Two stars is generous.

Romance meets mystery, a charming and witty novel about writer’s block, unexpected friendships, and the messiness of love.
The story follows romcom author Allie Edwards and crime novelist Martin Clark, two writers from vastly different worlds who find themselves equally stuck—facing looming deadlines and completely empty pages. Desperate for inspiration, they agree to a bold experiment: swapping genres and writing each other’s stories. What begins as a creative challenge soon turns into something deeper, as Allie and Martin develop a heartwarming mentor relationship, and Allie meets Will, a charismatic events caterer who might just be the missing piece in both her personal and professional life.

Was super excited for this book because the premise seemed so cute. However, while it was a fun read, the romance was barely there and the plot was very predictable imo. The FMC also just seemed super childish for a woman in her 30s (and I would know as a woman in her 30s)

Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for and ARC of this book.
The premise of this book sounded so good and, even do I did quite enjoy it, it felt a little slow at times. There were also time jumps between chapters that made it feel a little bit disconnected.
I loved how we got to see different types of relationships develop.
Her relationship with Martin, an older writer, was very sweet. I liked seeing how both helped each other with their books and how they ended up becoming such good friends.
And I really loved Will but I felt like we should have seen more of their relationship development.
Overall, I felt like this was less of a rom-com and more of a contemporary with a splash of romance.

First of all, thank you for the ARC NetGalley and the author of The Plot Twist in exchange for my honest review.
Okay, I really was looking forward to this book after I read the blurb and the cover that attracted me.
It was actually very hard for me to get through this book, it is a fun easy read if you like that but I was expecting more depth in the story and the characters. I didn’t feel a connection between the fmc and mmc there romance story and sometimes it was too fast paced.
It wasn’t my cup of tea but that doesn’t mean it can’t be yours if you like an easy read, no spicy at all, more friendship feeling than romance feeling than you can definitely like it.

This was so cute! I loved the premise and the general idea of the story! Overall I would recommend to anyone who loves a good romance
