DNF - I found it incredibly difficult to get into this book. The writing style was not for me, it was written in third-person, and there were so many run on sentences that I had to re-read things to make sure I still understood what was going on. It jumped around a lot with scenes ending abruptly.
I did enjoy the friendship between Allie and Martin, I thought they had a great dynamic.
Overall, I am disappointed that I DNF’d this book since I was so intrigued by the synopsis and the cover. I think it all just fell short for me.

I received an ARC from HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

love love LOVE this one! the dynamic between these two felt reminiscent of beach read - this would be a perfect book for fans of emily henry! i love a romance storyline between writers but especially when one is a romance writer and one is not, it’s such a fun dynamic and this book did not disappoint!

Oh I just fell in love with these two!
Allie has published several novels that have become best sellers, realising her current relationship isn’t inspiring anything romantic anymore she’s given up on happy ever afters and whilst doing so has come up with a case of writers block. When she meets Martin, a grumpy crime writer after an awful meeting at the publishers they strike up a deal to help each other out.
Will is a caterer at an authors release party, when he meets a woman dissing the food he’s serving he can’t help but smile. She’s feisty and funny and makes the event that much more interesting.
In between the writers block, catering gigs and a possible romance there’s a work scandal, secrets, lies and much more.
I will be honest here and say Allie irritated me a few times throughout the book with the way she self sabotages over and over again but what’s a good book without mixed feelings about the characters.
As always, no spoilers from me but this story completely hooked me. I couldn’t put the book down and devoured it in a day, I love when that happens.
I loved how each character had their own personality and how well they all worked together. Their growth and love, everything was spot on.
I’m a big fan of this book, it’s the first I’ve read from this author but most definitely won’t be the last. I enjoyed the writing style and how well it flowed.
The Plot Twist is a cute, fun and easy read. It’s a book about finding what makes you happy, about finding love in the most unexpected places and at the most unexpected times and about love and all the things that can go wrong. It’s beautiful, sad at times but an all around fun one to read.

I really liked the concept of this story, but the intro dragged, and the romance didn’t really kick off until halfway through.
Allie, a successful romance writer, is stuck in a major slump with a looming deadline. She teams up with Martin, a former crime-writing star from the ’90s who’s also battling writer’s block. Their unlikely partnership was sweet—honestly, Martin’s fatherly bond with Allie felt more central than her actual romance with Will, a caterer she meets at an event. Their interactions were limited, and Allie’s self-sabotage made it hard to fully invest in their relationship.
There were a lot of subplots—writer’s block, romance, Martin’s marriage, and even an editor takedown—which left some aspects feeling a bit underdeveloped. While I liked how everything tied together, I just wanted more focus on the romance itself.
A big thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

Sorry, I'm not the target audience for this book. The opening didn't draw me in—I prefer something more fast-paced. I also really dislike books that open with characters in bad relationships. I read romance to experience characters falling in love, not falling out of it. DNF.
Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC.

I found this book really hard to get into. I loved the idea of two struggling authors getting together and exchanging ideas and thoughts to help each other but I feel it missed the mark slightly?
I was also left wondering what the plot twist was to be honest as it was fairly obvious from quite early on what was happening?
There were almost ok many things going on and not enough focus on one part of the story of background for me, I also felt the romance was a little lacking and unbelievable unfortunately.

3.5* Thanks ne and p for an early copy of this book for my opinion. To be honest, it took me a few chapters for me to get into my stride with this one, but it did pick up. I thought the blurb on the book sounded promising and it is a cute light hearted read, but not 100% my cup of tea.

I really wish I would have enjoyed this book more because the actual plot sounded so interesting! There was so so much potential, but unfortunately, the book failed to capture my attention, really from the start.
Right away, I was a little confused because I felt like there were so many characters being introduced that it t was a little challenging to keep up.
The book was labeled as a romance book, but I felt like there was little to almost no romance at all and when there WAS romance, the author zipped right past it. For example, I thought the first kiss scene was completely rushed!! They kiss and then the chapter ends and she's back with her friend? I would have enjoyed furthering that scene and adding more romance because it was so confusing, truly I thought I was perhaps missing pages. Another confusing scene is when Will finds out that Allie is Martin's "writer friend", and immediately after it happens the author cuts to a scene where Allie talks to her friend (okay... I guess??), and then immediately cuts to Chapter 20 and Allie is in his bed?? Truly so so confusing, that it almost felt frustrating to read. Halfway through the book, I was thinking that Allie was going to end up with Martin solely because of how much time they spent together. This was ironic given that in Chapter 10, Verity had to be convinced that Allie and Martin were not dating.
I'm giving it two stars because as I said before, I think the plot is there and is really unique. However, I think that the actual plot execution is where the author felt short.
Lastly, I understand if the author wanted her book to not have such a strong romantic focal point (I am led to believe this because truly there was no romance) but then I think it should NOT be advertised as a romance.

⤿ 💌 4.5 stars!
I've been reading so many romance books where the main character is an author and I AM ABSOLUTELY LOVING IT. I've never considered myself a talented writer, honestly not even a good one. But, I love being able to get inside an author's head during books like these. I loved the platonic and unique relationship we got between Allie and Martin, usually the other writing mentor/partner is the other love interest but it was fun to see a platonic friendship between two writers who just shared a love for a common craft.
Hearing about Martin's family struggles as well as his love for his wife and their own love story was so cute and heartwarming (I think Martin may be my favorite character 🥺)
The romance was fun as well! But it didn't take over the over arching plot line of her writing her comeback novel and her struggles with the publishing industry. I recommend this if you want a love letter to writing that explores thingsdeeper than just the romance!
Thank you so much to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.

This was really cute! The plot was so fun and I enjoyed getting to know these characters. The heroine drove me mad because she kept avoiding conversations ( and I mean I get it, in her situation I would try to avoid them too) but gosh she could have saved herself some heartache. But other than her attitude regarding that situation, I really liked her and I liked watching her resolve all the issues she was dealing with in her life. The romance plot was so cute! I liked them together a lot.

This book had a cute premise, and I really enjoyed the storyline of struggling authors finding their way back. The relationship between Allie and Martin was a highlight—it added a heartfelt touch that I appreciated.
That said, the book didn’t fully deliver on the romance for me. Allie and Will’s relationship had so much potential, but I wanted more depth and development between them. The plot twist also felt a bit early, which took away some of the momentum. With so many different storylines in play, some elements felt underdeveloped or got lost along the way.
Overall, it was an enjoyable read but didn’t quite hit the mark as a romance.
Thank you, NetGalley, One More Chapter, and HarperCollins UK, for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

Such an adorable beach read. I loved The Plot Twist, it was fun and engaging from the start! A great novel.

I find myself a bit torn about this book. While I enjoyed reading it, I often felt a sense of boredom creeping in, primarily because I craved more moments with Will and Martin. Those were truly the highlights for me! I really wanted to see the development of Allie and Will's romance more clearly; their connection felt rushed, and I wish there had been more depth to their love story.
The dates we did get were fun, but it seemed like some of the extra storylines were just added for the sake of it, rather than enhancing the narrative. Honestly, I would have preferred more time spent with Will. The partnership between Martin and Allie was an intriguing twist; their blossoming friendship added a nice layer to the story.
It might have been interesting to see Angie more involved as well, which could have provided Allie with a clearer perspective on both her relationship with Will and her friendship with Martin. Overall, while it was a decent read, I often caught myself wishing to skip ahead to the parts featuring Will or Martin instead of the office drama.

This is a fun, uplifting book that is easy to read. It is called the Plot Twist, but the story is less enticing than the sweet dynamic of the characters.
Allie is a romcom writer who is so likable for being messy and relatable for all of her mistakes and missteps. Her friendship with Martin reminds me of a 90s sitcom, it is fun and comedic! Will is the sexy caterer who shows up just when Allie needs it most.
A lot like watching a romcom movie, The Plot Twist is a cute read for when you need a break from the heaviness of life or other books.

Ok, I'm going to be honest. I didn't finish this book. I had to dnf. I read the description of this book and it sounded really interesting. However, once I started reading it, I just couldn't. I tried to like this book but at nearly 40% in I already know what's going to happen and the storyline just doesn't get my attention. I don't feel connected to the characters and I really don't care what happens to them. This book definitely has promise, but it just fell really flat. 2.75/5 star for me. I wouldn't recommend. *side note* absolutely no hate to the author whatsoever! This is not meant to be hateful to the author and I would give another book of hers a chance. This book just wasn't it and I can't honestly recommend it.

I am so very sorry but I just didn't enjoy this book. Maybe it was wrong book, wrong time. I'd be willing to give it another go. A soft DND for now.

I really wanted to love this one - such a great premise. Allie, a successful romance writer, has found herself stuck, both in love and in the writing of her new novel. When she meets famous crime writer, Martin, they're amazed to learn they're both in similar circumstances. The two hatch a plan: they'll help each other meet their deadlines. Allie has a great premise for a new crime novel, and Martin's attempts to save his ailing marriage can inspire Allie's new romance novel.
While attending an industry event, Allie swoons for a waiter named Will. He is handsome, charming and soon smitten with her and, as a result, becomes her new writing muse. But as the relationship progresses, they learn that they're both keeping secrets from one another. Will the budding romance be able to survive?
Look. Will is charmingly written. He's handsome and attentive to Allie's needs. I wanted so much more to him, but he was just a minor character in a book that's supposed to circle around this romantic relationship. Even the adorable cover features a man that is not how Will is described in the book (repeated mentions of arm tattoos and dark hair). It's like he was a subplot. Allie's douchy ex-boyfriend got much more page time, which was unfortunate.
The real interesting point is that the platonic relationship between Allie and Martin took center stage. To the point that I was wondering if IT was going to take a romantic turn. Why would an author spend SO MUCH TIME detailing meetings between two platonic characters when the obvious draw is the handsome MMC?!?
It may be that the book should be shelved under "woman's fiction" because it centers on Allie's journey of self-discovery, not the romance of her and Will. Maybe that would draw a different set of readers that have expectations of a deep character arc and not one of swoony kisses.

While I feel there were many moments that didn't feel complete or discussed further, it was a good, quick read. If you need something to completely a reading goal or to just feel a bit of platonic happiness, this is for you.
There were a few parts where I found myself giggling out loud, or going "awww" which - in my opinion - made it worth it to complete it. The ending was very sweet, and I enjoyed learning Martin and Angie's struggles and how they fix it.
The romance aspect was kind of lacking. I mean, I felt her friendship with Martin was fuller than her relationship with Will. I'm not asking for full-on open door scenes, but it just felt like their relationship started and then wasn't a focus any longer until the end of the book. Jess got on my nerves sometimes, but she is a great friend for Allie.
The premise and idea of the book is beautiful, but I feel like it could have been executed a little better. I'm also bummed we didn't get a lot of insight into Martin's book when that played a large part!
Regardless, I am thankful for the publishing company as well at NetGalley for approving me for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Thank you Net Galley for am ARC in exchange for my honest reviews ✨️
This one was cute!!
I was kinda expecting the story to be a little different when reading the synopsis of this story. Allie and Martin are both stuck in a rut writing their next best hit and they agree to swap stories to help each other out. I definitely misunderstood what they meant by swapping stories but overall it was still really enjoyable!
The character development was good and the timing of things went at a good pace. A sweet, quick read!

She did it again! I absolutely adored this story and think i have now added Eleanor Goymer to my list of must read authors. The Fallback was my book of the year last year and now i think the plot twist is a new favourite!
